this may be somewhat of an off-topic discussion, referring to the most of the development threads, but its something i was wondering, and need help with.
is there a way to block numbers from texting or calling you on the dream?
im running the latest cyanogen, but could switch ROM's if thats a problem, and im currently on the t-mobile network, im just wondering if theres a way to do it from the phone directly.

Look up super private conversation in the market.
Theres also the option to send a phone number directly to voicemail when you edit a contact.

You are posting in the wrong forum, this is for Rom Development, and if you dont have have the messaging plan and service you cannot use AIM. Try what holiday said.
If you want an AIM client that uses SMS and not data, the OZ app is your only choice afaik.
There is a AIM client which you can use the data plan.Just google Aim mobile and it will take you to the right site.
I'm using it on my phone and I don't have the text messenging plan.
But if you don't have neither plan I don't think it's possible.
hey everyone; i was wondering if there is an app where you don't have to have a plan with your carrier to text(sms).
can anyone help me out please. thanks

Umm, that would be illegal. And impossible
The only way to do that is to have a data plan already (or WiFi) so you can access the internet. Then you could use something like Google Voice, and from your web browser, send a SMS message through Google's website.
So, the only option is through the internet, or by getting a real SMS plan from your service provider. Got it?
well Iphone have a program that does that, so its not really illegal if you ask me. but thanks for your answer.

Ughh, I'mm 99% sure they wouldn't since:
1. AT&T would NEVER allow that. They don't even allow Google Voice, so they're definitely not gonna allow free SMS.
2. Apple wouldn't allow that, since (1) they listen to AT&T about everything, and (2), it's a "competing feature that already exists". They don't allow web browsers, and they wouldn't allow different SMS systems. If it does something that's already in the iPhone, then they usually don't allow it.
3. Isn't a SMS and Data plan REQUIRED on the iPhone? Soo, there would be no purpose at all for developing that app there.
Sooo, maybe it exists in the "jailbroken" world, but I really can't see it existing in the App Store. It just doesn't make sense there (#3) and it's probably against their monopolistic rules (#1).
lol.
well anyway my friend he paid $5 for that program and he can sent text when he goes wifi.

Ahh, I bet that's how they got around it. Because they have Internet Calling programs too, but I think they all have to work over WiFi, since otherwise, AT&T would be throwing a big fit, lol.
But their app store is loosening up over time, since the FCC is sniffing down their tracks!
So, the only way to make it possible would be to use an online service that gives you free SMS, and then access that system from your phone. You could do that from a browser, or you could suggest the idea to the Development & Hacking forums, and a developer might actually build an app that would do that. Who knows. I think the best option would be interacting with Google Voice, since the platform already exists.
Check out OneDialer - http://www.onedialer.com/
It already does voice calling through Google Voice, and I think he is working on SMS through Google. I forget if he was gonna make it all work through data, but there's potential there!

All,
Thanks to everyone here for contributing!
Gratitudes extended; I am having issues with any Sense 2.0+ dialer. I think I've read somewhere that because 2.0+ ports for the EVO come from GSM phones that the dialers are somewhat buggy.
I notice that I cannot switch between calls easily, and it is impossible to merge calls. Or at least I must be doing something terribly wrong.
If this is a widely-known issue then I apologize in advance. I did do a search of the EVO forums before posting this.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
Depends what ROM your using, some clearly state mms is broke.
I did find a work around, download the Photobucket app, upload the picture to that then send the direct link to your friend. As far a s receiving, I'd tell someone to email to my gmail. Until the MMS issue is fixed or flash a rom where MMS does work.
Sems to be an issue on Z ports. Calls won't switch over or answer while in another call. I don't think I have seen an official fix. I just let it go to vm and call em back if it happens.

Hi, does anyone know how to use the new Root Call Blocker, since they updated the app with new UI and all? I just want to know how to block a person from calling but still be able to receive a text from them? Old one was so easy, just tick away.. but now, a little confusing for me. I asked the developer but they made it confusing with their responce. Thanks in advance.
Could be coincidence but in the last week and a half since I got my new 6t I've been getting a lot of spam calls with what I think is Chinese I know it's Oriental all the weird privacy policies and all the terms and all that that you had to click on when using their launcher and stuff wonder if that has anything to do with OnePlus never received any spam calls like that before could be coincidence or something wondering if anybody else has been getting Oriental spam calls

I do not believe it has anything to do with OnePlus - I never had this issue, neither any of my friends. Just deploy Truecaller or other app and block spam calls
I have not gotten any on my OP 6T but I used to get them all the time on a previous work phone (with a 503 area code). We have a high Asian population (especially around Hillsboro / Beaverton for the semiconductor facilities) so it's probably just robo-calls trying to capitalize on that.

We're neighbors. I work near Tannisbourne.
Anyway, I got a few robo calls yesterday and realized the dialer is different than on my old phone... no option to report/block as spam. Tried to install google phone framework and use google dialer to get that functionality back but didn't work for me. I'll have to check out truecaller to see how well that works.

In the dialer app,tap Call History > Tap on any call ,then tap on the 2nd icon.
Then tap on the 3-dot menu in the upper L/H Corner, you should get a window that gives you the option to block the number.

Don't use Truecaller. You're not only giving up YOUR data, you're giving up all your contacts data to them too.

Well, this is the way it works - everyone gives their data so everyone will be able to use it. If you just want SPAM calls blocked, but do not care about identifying the people calling you - use T-Mobile or other carrier option to block SPAM call or use another app.
Rooted users can just install the Goog dialer and be done with it. I believe there is a method for non rooted users but I've never been one and can offer no insight on how they do it with gimped phones. In any event Goog is already in possession of your data so no worries about giving up your information to them and most importantly; it works. You're going to receive few spam calls after you install so long as you menu dive and tell it to block, it is not set to do so by default.
