Does anyone have the oz cab that is compatible with WM6? I deleted mine off, but have decided that IM+ and mundu take up too much resources for the little I use them. I have unlimited text messaging with my family plan, so I would like to go ahead and reload oz, but don't want to have to do a hard reset in order to do so.
Any help would be much appreciated. I searched, but couldn't find it.
Thanks.

Thank you. Unfortunately, now I can't get the darn thing to work. It keeps saying communication error and to check my settings.

I had the same problem, what you need to do is uninstall it, and install it to your device. If you had it installed to your storage it will continue to give the error. If you install to device it will work just fine. Hope that helps!
If you want it to work you're goin to have to hard reset and let the T-Mo customizations run. Remember Oz IM runs off you're SMS and not a dedicated internet app, so there will be some settings that would have to be tweaked in order to sync it. I don't know if anyone has made it work or even tried to yet, but there are other options out there. There's IM+ and Agile but you'll have to purchase them after trial period, and there's also imov and palringo which are both free, but have their share of problems. All run on internet so it's much better than sms based.
I personally use a combo of palringo and imov. Palringo is better looking and more feature rich than imov but disconnects frequently even when there's service. Also, as of right now, there's a problem with switching between different chats. It doesn't save your conversion once you exit out and there's no workaround at the moment. Imov basically has no features, is very basic in looks, and has ads that take up about one-third of your screen, but it is much more stable. You can leave it running overnight.
Hope this helps
You don't have to do a hard reset and let the Tmo extras run, I am running my wing debranded with the cab re-installed to my device, and it works for me with no problems. Although you can use the other programs papito mentions if you have a data plan. If you just have a text msg plan use the oz cab.
how do i choose to install on the device? it doesnt give me an option. i use 8525 btw
or are you guys talking about miucro sd card cuz i dont have one

thx alot ive been lookin everywhere for this.
Whats Is OZ Pocket PC? Just got my wing and I'm looking to trick it out.
Thanks
Okay, I think I have this OZ communicator figured out somewhat. It seems that there is a registry key that makes a connection to a site that (I would assume) handles the IM/SMS exchange for the OZ IM Client (HKCU\Software\OZ Communications\Configuration\1\Network) which points at http://aol.cwmim.com:1171 I would think that it is the conversion here that creates the text message charge. I would think that t-mobile would have a similar site to put in here that handles conversion for their network. Anyone have a t-mobile phone with OZ, and can pass that out to us?

I have a t-mobile wing with a custom rom on it. I wanted to install Oz because i wanted to have the instant messengers. I do have unlimited text and the basic data plan. When I installed the program, it gave me a communication error and to check the settings but it also sent me a text message...which I didnt understand. How can I get the program to work? I have it installed on the device memory already.
I Hard-SPL'd my Wing and threw Touch-It 4.4 on it. From what I am understanding, this means I can now use my phone with any carrier. Does this also mean that while using it with T-Mobile that they won't be able to charge me for AIM messages that I sent thru wi-fi now? They have a nasty policy of charging for AIM messages even if you send them thru private wifi.

You have tp PAY when you are using wifi????
when gprs isn´t connected and you are using wifi - that COULD not happen in my eyes.
BUT often when GPRS is connected AND wifi also the programs go through GPRS!!!!!! ths the problem. allways disconnect GPRS!
there is a liitle app "MoDaCo - Nodata" that prevents GPRS for connecting - if you don´t wish it to...
Trust me. I had the GPRS connection deleted from the connection manager. It could not connect thru there at all. I even called them and they said themselves, "there's a portion of the IM that travels thru T-Mobile" They wouldn't tell me for what, just that it has to. Bull**** because when I'm using hacked AIM 2.0 (they block the official AIM 2.0.), guess what? No AIM charges...
But I hate AIM 2.0. The software is ancient and therefore annoying.
How does Tmobile charge you for the AIM message? As data? As a sms?
Like the other guy, I dont understand how Tmobile would even "know" your aiming if you are doing so via WAN. Hmmmmm strange.

Tmobile's OZ instant messaging application allows you to use AIM, YIM and ICQ .. but the catch is, it uses the text plan in order to avoid having to use a data plan. So people use the IM application then get a bill for 1,000,000 SMS messages and they have no idea where it came from.

Yeah thats exactly the way I understand it. I figured b/c he was talking about going over wireless he was using IM+ or something.
hidavi, have you tried a third party program like IM+ ??
Doesn't matter, they still charge thru IM+. I know cuz for a whole month I used IM+ thru wifi and I got overaged $80 for AIM messages. I swear, if I'm not on data or wifi, my IMs won't go thru, not thru OZ not thru IM+.
This is from a product review
What I didn't know is that it is not a true online instant messenger application. Behind the scenes, it sends instant messages using SMS, and on the other person's end, repackages those SMS messages into the IM application. It seems like a novel idea, but the side effects are awful: OZ Messenger's ability to stay "connected" for chat, report the online/offline status of others, and report YOUR status as online/offline is hit or miss. Sending and receiving messages is also very unreliable. During the three days I struggled through this, roughly half of my messages weren't sent due to a "network error", despite having 4 or 5 bars and a full EDGE connection. (Side note - I'm also worried T-Mobile will bill me for SMS usage when I used this instant messenger)

Wow doode.....that sucks....
Well, I'm not getting charged nowadays since I'm using hacked AIM 2.0, but I really wish this program had a Today plugin and a easier to use interface...
From what I found in the guts of the registry, OzIM uses a T-Mobile server as a portal for the IM system. Since every IM you send filters through their server, they have full control to see where and what you are sending, saying, seeing, etc, even if you are on a WiFi connection.
I've seen several recommendations for alternate IM systems that Don't Suck. Slick was recommended by somebody, but I haven't personally tried it yet.
Ok I'm makeing rom for Prophet, Kaiser and Touch and prob will make for more devices.
Therefore I ask here insted of doing a poll in every forum?
on some devices the memorry is not that much and ArcsoftMMS is taking up alot of space and can be installed by cab for users that realy need it.
so the question is how often do you send MMS
I never use MMS..i guess my vote wont count..caz u are not building for Hima right ??

i agree, its better to remove this from the ROM. if somebody really uses MMS, he/she can use a cab to install it.
I rarely use it, don't find the need to send "pix" to everyone, especially when I've got e-mail at my finger tips!
Gullum i think remove it.If i will send pix i can use E-MAil.
i use it every once in a while. there are times in which i use it everyday but most of the time i would say on average weekly
Considering that the Elfin has Wifi and I can pretty much attach any pic I want and email it to anyone using my Elfin, I don't see the need for MMS.
Of course there are those purists who will say, "oh, but then you need to find a wifi hotspot...I can send MMS anytime"...
I've never been in a situation where I've had to send a picture immediately. If I do find myself in that spot, then I'll use MMS.
I dont HAVE to send MMS messages at all but it is the multi-functionallity of my Kaiser I love. Basically I like to have all options available. I hate it when I`m in a position not being able to do something because I didnt install it because of ram/storage space. Its like having alot of money but no stores to use´em in.
I probably send 50 mms messages a year (Vacations, Fishing, A picture of my daughter to her mother, and so on..) but not once a week.
When there is a situation worth it I use MMS. Being in that situation without that option would probably make me crazy. Of course I can send an email but I would like the pic to show up in the recievers phone at once. Eighter way: most Norwegian mobile phone users dont have email on their phones (dont use it) ........... yet. For pictures and sound, we use MMS.
Off topic:
Viva Scandinavia! I´m visiting Iceland this summer
I agree with the above - its one of those options you hardly use, but its very annoying for example someone who has a device without email option wants to send a picture and you dont have the capabilities, i probably have sent 1 this year and received 2 or 3
yeah, i've never used it, but i guess it's handy if you do have it. tbh, if i had a rom with no mms, i wouldn't notice it wasn't there because i don't use it at all! mms is expensive!
if you are making new rom, i'd say leave it out & add link for the cab, if somebody wants it, can dload it.
look like so far that MMS should be a cab option and not in the rom.
I personaly have only sent MMS to test if it works in my roms. I've had differant phones over the years and I hardly ever sent or received any MMS during these years.
So my desission is MMS wan't be in my future roms but I will have a link to a cab to go with my roms...
Thanks for all the votes and please keep voting as this might be of intrest to other cooks too.
im sure that there might be a thread for this already ..... but ive been lazy and i havent asked sprint about it ... but is the touch capable of mobile to mobile picture messaging .. everytime i wanna send a pic the selctions i get are only able to send to email... i cant select to send to a contact... is it jus cuz i cant figure it out or is the touch incapable of mobile to mobile pix messaging
mms is not yet available on sprint. in the future, you can use the search button located on the top right of this page.
there is, but since you're lazy about it maybe you should try kngtut79's advice and try searching.
you can use dashwire. I am on Bell CDMA in Canada and it allows you to send a sms to your contacts as a link to the picture which is the closest I have come to so far. Hope that helps www.dashwire.com

Verizon MMS requires data usage to send or recieve pictures and video. I am specifically looking for a program to send and recieve MMS messages without using data. The program linked above, called sMMS, does it without using data.

This will not work for you then, it still uses data, and you need the Sprint Picture Messaging, which is of course not available for VZW users.
Verizon charges you for a MMS like it's a SMS. If not it's $0.20/msg, the package for, I believe, 250 SMS is $5/mo.

I`ve been trying for a couple weeks now to get MMS working on my Touch. I got a thread going but no luck in fixing it. I came across this today though http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35616. I called Alltel after I changed the setting, but the MMS network happened to be down at the time, so I don`t know if the setting work since nobody could send any at the time. The representative talked to the advance service tech and googled it as well, but neither could figure it out. I`m gonna call back tonight ( they said the network should be up by then) on a different phone to see if they can diagnose it. It kinda sounds like a problem with flashing roms. I know it worked for me before I started flashing, but it also happens even when you flash to an official alltel rom with a locked phone as in the case with my brother`s touch. When I upgraded his radio his stopped working. Perhaps its a network problem, hell I read that Sprint took it away from there users.
hey everyone; i was wondering if there is an app where you don't have to have a plan with your carrier to text(sms).
can anyone help me out please. thanks

Umm, that would be illegal. And impossible
The only way to do that is to have a data plan already (or WiFi) so you can access the internet. Then you could use something like Google Voice, and from your web browser, send a SMS message through Google's website.
So, the only option is through the internet, or by getting a real SMS plan from your service provider. Got it?
well Iphone have a program that does that, so its not really illegal if you ask me. but thanks for your answer.

Ughh, I'mm 99% sure they wouldn't since:
1. AT&T would NEVER allow that. They don't even allow Google Voice, so they're definitely not gonna allow free SMS.
2. Apple wouldn't allow that, since (1) they listen to AT&T about everything, and (2), it's a "competing feature that already exists". They don't allow web browsers, and they wouldn't allow different SMS systems. If it does something that's already in the iPhone, then they usually don't allow it.
3. Isn't a SMS and Data plan REQUIRED on the iPhone? Soo, there would be no purpose at all for developing that app there.
Sooo, maybe it exists in the "jailbroken" world, but I really can't see it existing in the App Store. It just doesn't make sense there (#3) and it's probably against their monopolistic rules (#1).
lol.
well anyway my friend he paid $5 for that program and he can sent text when he goes wifi.

Ahh, I bet that's how they got around it. Because they have Internet Calling programs too, but I think they all have to work over WiFi, since otherwise, AT&T would be throwing a big fit, lol.
But their app store is loosening up over time, since the FCC is sniffing down their tracks!
So, the only way to make it possible would be to use an online service that gives you free SMS, and then access that system from your phone. You could do that from a browser, or you could suggest the idea to the Development & Hacking forums, and a developer might actually build an app that would do that. Who knows. I think the best option would be interacting with Google Voice, since the platform already exists.
Check out OneDialer - http://www.onedialer.com/
It already does voice calling through Google Voice, and I think he is working on SMS through Google. I forget if he was gonna make it all work through data, but there's potential there!
