Seriously, what's with HTC quality control lately? Spelling mistakes, loose keypad, uneven screen to frame alignment, flawy camera, sharp lens frame, very poor in-call audio quality etc..
Why is XDA still supporting HTC products only? Toshibat TG01, Acer NeoTouch and many other devices proved that they can outperform any HTC device to date. Is it all about the spectacular 4.3" screen? They relied on that to make people buy their devices?
Well it's either they start considering dropping their handsets price or spend more time on testing and verification because a 600 euros mobile device should be almost flawless. You can even buy a decent computer for such amount of money.
I'm the same opinion.
I think alot of people are overly exaggerating problems.
The in call quality is not poor!? who keeps saying this?! its the best I have ever experienced, yes its loud, but turn the bloody thing down if its too loud!
No spelling mistakes on my O2 rom.
Its the same thing with everything, people will never be happy. Im fed up with seeing the new topics everday with people moaning about the same non-issues.
every groundbreaking new device has a lot off flaws. This was the case with the HTC Universal, HTC X7500, Magicians and etc...
Now with the ROMs of XDA these can become wonderfull products.
The problems with HTC device are not the hardware quality but HTC lack off making stable and good roms with good working drivers....

Doh. It's too loud on the lowest setting, do you think none of us have searched for the volume slider before complaining it's way too loud???
As for the call quality being the best you've ever experienced, what device were you last using.....two cans and some string? The crackles, pops and distortion are horrible on this device - let alone the excrutiating volume. Either you're part-deaf buddy or you use your device in loud environments. My HD2 is as loud as I would ever expect it to go even at the lowest volume. I want to be able to turn it down from here, not make it even louder!!!
Dunno, I'm quite "picky" when it comes to sound quality/intensity and my HD2 doesn't seem to suffer from these issues. I also set it to the highest volume, and I think it tends to be "weak" sometimes.

You see, I dont want to rely on my luck to get a flawless device. I am not that lucky anyway.
Usually you are unlucky if your device has issues while others don't. But with HTC, you are lucky if it doesn't...
If this helps, that's my radio version - 2.04.50.22_2

My HD also was almost perfect when I got it a year ago but not my HD2. I think yes HTC is manufacturing lemons since then.
Unfortunately, a small percentage of all manufactured products will suffer from various defects. This is a standard symptom of mass production.
I haven't seen anything on these forums that would suggest that the HTC's failure rate is any higher than any other company's.
I have a standard o2 rom, maybe it was the base HTC shipped rom thats bad for quality in calls then?
I have had tons of phones old ericssons, nokias, htc atermis, diamond, and iphone and the call quality is much better than all of them.

Yeah loomx, you must be one of those lucky guys then. Don't forget that this is not an old phone, it's one of the most expensive phones out yet if not the most. And NO, Nokia high end mobile phones call quality is far better than the HD2. Wanna put money on that?
the sound quality of mine is almost perfect too... a bit too loud. but it doesn't drope calls on me *gg* like some other devices i've used.
Call quality is very good. Not perfect, but I don't know any smartphone with perfect call quality. The HD's is among the best.
However, every new device will have some bugs and HTC devices are no exception. Sure, it seems luke the HD2 has a bit more of them than previous phones, but when you look around in the smartphone space, you'll see lots of devices that came with lots more problems or more serious bugs, like e.g. the SE Satio where they even stopped selling it because of serious bugs, or the Nokia N97, and lots of others.
The HD2 is no exception, but luckily most of the bugs some people encounter can be fixed easily. I rather have a device with a few more bugs that I can easily fix myself than having to wait for months until the manufacturer releases an update or even delays the releas of the device.
So far, my HD2 works great and it's really better to have some small glitches that can be fixed by the community or HTC than to have a device with serious limitations that never get fixed (like the iPhone amd others).

Hello everybody.
My name is Lorin and I'm an owner of a 2 months old HTC Touch Pro 2 and I'm thinking of getting the HD2 this week or the beginning of the next week.
I'll keep both phones because i like to have a physical keyboard but i want that huge screen and that speedy processor.
Anyway, i looked on xda for solutions to all the issues mentioned in reviews and by users and i found everything except one thing.
In this review (www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXV_-BUpLy4 , min 13:30), Trent says the speaker quality is really bad when the volume is at the maximum value.
I want to ask you guys if you have the same experience because this would definitely be a no go for me. I mean, the speakers on the TP2 are just amazing... and i know i can't get that on the HD2 but what i hear in the review is simply bad.
Thanks.
Very bad earpiece quality for me. Backspeaker audio quality is mediocre. There are too many threads with Polls. You can have a look. cheers.
it is bad.. HTC doesn't care much about camera and speakers.. dunno why! but ever htc phone that i have owned has these two problems.. i mean there are are very cheap Chinese phones (less than 50 bucks) which have excellent speaker than the ones on htc..
Thanks guys. How's the experience when you watch a movie? When high pitch sounds come in do you hear the speaker making funny noises?
Personally, I think the speaker is great. I have never turned it up to the maximum as at halfway its almost too loud anyway. At halfway I've found the sound to be crisp and better than most dumbphone's speaker. I've also had no problems with the earpiece either.
I think it depends on what batch you get. There seem to be some HD2s with a couple problems and others like mine that don't have any issues.

Agreed.
The sound on mine is good from both the front and the rear. It varies from phone to phone/user to user.
for me the speaker when watching movies an stuff is fine (the external one) but the one when makings calls.... very bad.. very bad indeed! but its still usable. and to be honest its not something i wouldnt purchase the phone for, no way. there`s just too many pro`s why you should buy it. if you get this phone.. you will not be dissapointed.

Yeah but what does take to produce good voicecall quality other than paying 1000$ ? We really payed to much for that device and we shouldn't be annoyed by such a silly annoying crappy earpiece.
I love mine, own an iphone 3gs aswell but its the hd2 that i carry round most.. love it.
Better than my old omnia hd
Coming from a 13 year Nokia history the earpiece is no where near as good, but it serves it's purpose.
I see (hear) no problem with the sound (speaker and earpiece) on the HD2. But I agree with those who think they got the "bad ones from the bunch". The speaker, the earpiece and a lot of other bits and bobs on the HD2 serve their purpose very well. If you want amazing sound I recommend you buy a Hi-Fi system. Good pictures - buy a proper 10 or 12 MPix camera. Recording video - by a proper, HD video camera. GPS - get a standalone machine. But if you want all-in-one with very, very acceptable quality, go for the HD2. Ah, stick in a proper Micro SD Card and you can also have thousands of songs and videos on the go! You really cannot go wrong with it

i agree. we should be getting outstanding!!! call quality for the price these things cost, luckily for me i`m on contract so i havent paid out the £500 or so they cost to buy. i do feel sorry for the people who have bought one and are having real problems with call quality though, it seems to differ with different people i`v noticed. for me its bad, but not bad enough to send my phone back. me personally, i can get over the call quality. i got the phone for all the other qualitys about it really as well, and there are lots!!!! making phone calls is waaaaaaaaaaaay down the list! lol (that doesnt sound right somehow does it! considering i`m talking about a phone! lol)
With my HD2:
Call quality is excellent, the sound through the earpiece is VERY VERY GOOD.
The rear speaker is very loud and sounds metallic (=bad) at max volume. At lower volume, it's good.
It's still better than most other speakerphones I know but not as good as the TP2.
All in all, it delivers what you can expect from a 600€ smartphone. Better than most others.

The Touch HD will clip a little if turn to max volume, but no way I will claim it as bad at all. I don't think HD2 will worry me about speakers or camera!!
Wow, thanks for all the responses!!!
I ordered mine on 24th so next week i'll have it.
So as much as I wanted this phone to be perfect, after playing around with it for a few days... it just isn't happening. All the shortcomings of the device are starting to get to me...
- Low speaker volume (can be fixed with a mod)
- Low ringtone volume
- Bad sound quality (hissing and low volume)
- Bad radio placement (holding the bottom drops a few bars)
- UI laggyness (this did go away for me after throwing on cyanogen)
- Touchscreen problems (glitches out/goes haywire, not always responsive...)
All of these problems remind me of the Dream/Magic... Is HTC ever planning on improving on any of these downfalls (...ever)? The worst one out of all of them would probably be the touchscreen. I mean the iPhone has been out for what, 3+ years now? Why can't HTC/android put out a decent working KB yet? Typing on this thing efficiently is near impossible. I've owned tons of phones, and with that being said, I was never an Apple fanboi, but in the world of touchscreen smartphones I always end up going back to that damn phone. Sure android is fun as hell to play around with, but it isn't there yet... I can care less about the next processor HTC uses I just really hope they address some of these issues because that would really put them ahead of the game
In all fairness, the iPhone is no king in the RF department either, and the speaker sucks as well, but it has pretty damn good sound quality when it comes to the media department, and the touchscreen on it is perfect. If only HTC (or is it android?) can fix these issues... Because right now the phone feels gimped, and I'd much rather use a JB'ed iPhone, sadly.
I'll probably get flamed for this, but want to see what other people think. 3 friggin years and iPhone has yet to be dethroned. Android is great, but we need someone else to adopt it and produce a worthwhile phone ffs. Look at the X10, another android fail on the horizon *sigh*.

Had mine since January. None of these issues have presented themselves on mine. Although I did just notice a lot of dust under my screen. Replacement time.
I guess it's possible I got a defective unit. Or maybe I'm just too godamn picky I don't know... I compared it to a friends Droid (Milestone) and his had me beat on the first four things I mentioned. Kind of disappointing when this is the flagship android phone. Though it was manufactured by HTC and I had all these issues on the Dream and Magic, so it's not surprising...

No phone is perfect.
Hell, the iPhone's been out 3+ years and can't multitask.
Look at my sign and realize that I've had the gamut of phones.
This by far is the best.
I'm still getting used to the keyboard and the camera isn't as good as 5 MP should be. But then again. No camera is as good as the one that was on my W800.
the droid has a far better speaker on it than the nexus..
i haven't heard any hissing or popping listening to music on mine
the radio placement is only an issue in low signal strength areas, like when you are around -80+DBm signal strength
my UI is fine, sometimes it lags when making a shortcut and im pulling up the application list, but that's only cause i have soooo much installed
have not had a single touchscreen problem, i think most of the time people aren't realizing that part of their hand or fingers holding the phone are touching it.. The digitizer runs almost to the metal edge of the screen it seems, it is very sensitive. The tiniest bit of skin touching the edge of the screen will throw it off.

My media volume was ok at best on full volume but since applying the audio hack its perfect. I never once had a problem with ringtones.
The loud speaker is essentially a single mono speaker so you can not expect 5.1 stereo surround sound. but it does annoy me that my old wizard had 2 speakers and a decent sound.
The radio problem is something I agree with you on. It's like they intended for us to buy Bluetooth headsets because its ridiculous that we have to hold our phones in an unnatural position.
As for the touch screen I only have problems if I have some oil on the phone from my hands. And even then it is rarely an issue.

I've had quite a few in the past year alone, and pretty much embarrassed to type them all out. I look at my addiction more as a hobby heh. I am enjoying this phone, don't get me wrong, but maybe expected a little too much for a ~$530 unlocked phone. Then again though, for the price, we're getting a LOT and I really shouldn't be complaining. But also, if these issues were to be addressed (seemingly small issues to most) I wouldn't mind paying the extra.

I hope HTC ups their speaker quality. Motorola has been putting phones out for a lifetime, and I've never had problems in regards to build quality or RF with any past Moto phones I've owned... so in terms of the Droid, I'm a little envious on those two fronts.
I'm in an area with great 3G, so admittedly it's more a pet peeve for me, reminds me of the E71 which had an equally bad radio placement, but that phone actually dropped calls because of it, I haven't had that problem *yet*.
UI is smooth as butter on cyanogen, but when it was stock it'd be spiky going from frame to frame which made me wonder, why... especially with a snapdragon... I guess the memory being freed up by cyanogen really makes the difference?
As for the touchscreen, that could very well be my problem indeed... Reminds me of my laptop touchpad (which is made by Synaptics too, lol). I guess you really need a lot of discipline when using the keyboard/touchscreen something I guess I'll eventually get used to after using it for a few weeks.

I just want a touch with great RF and speakers. Motorola did it, but it included the slideout which I didn't want.

You're brave people in this forum don't like to be told he phone has issues, I was too afraid to even read the responses yet. It's one of the best phones available but I know exactly what you mean. People here don't like this for some reason but its ok to admit that android and specifically the nexus is meant to compete with the iPhone. And so the comparisons logically follow !nd that's a good thing.
The iPhone is Michael Jordan, it changed the game and that's good for us because its really the only competition for Android in my opinion. The iPhone (should) bring the best out of Android.
But I too am frustrated that Android didn't look at the things that work on the main phone its competing with because the nexus really should have a keyboard, touchscreen and browser on par with the iPhone since it came out long after the iPhone. I wish to whichever god is the right one that I had never used the iPhone because I wouldn't realize how different the touchscreens are. It's not that the nexus one is bad its just that it could've been SO SO much better and its doubly frustrating that it came out so long after the iPhone, why not at least aim for iPhone quality? Also, The iPhone is ever so slightly wider and uses a thick keys like system, easy characteristics that make its keyboard substantially better. But with the HTC IME once you get used to it its actually almost adequate.
But be patient because, although I've ranted about wanting Android to fix the vast amount of issues ASAP it looks like Android is more concerned with putting out froyo that's supposed to be the last major update before Android focuses on updates defragmenting its OS. So wait and see what froyo has to offer, im confident and excited about it and I'm as hard on Android and the nexus oneas anyone here.

ya but see thats a software issue which can be fixed by jailbreaking the iphone..i had full multitasking on my iphone and it worked perfectly..the hardware on the iphone was flawless for me
the touch screen was PERFECT it supported TRUE multitouch because apple put a proper touchscreen in their phone unlike htcs descion to put a 3 year old glitchy touch screen on their "superphone". Its not glitchy for normal use but for mulitouch is SUCKS. I loved the games on my iphone and controls that were implemented but i cant have them because htc is cheap
altough my g1 and magic had a 3.2mp camera and my iphone had 2.0, the iphone took much better pictures than my htc devices, it didnt have to be bright sunny day to not get a dark picture.
so pretty much android is great htc is cheap. I dont know what happened with the speaker this time because my g1 and mytouch were pretty damn loud, but the touch screen is really annoying. Hopefully they have a better touch screen on the evo4g clearpad 3000 please
When threads like this come around, why do we post in them (I'm being hypocritical of of course), he thinks the iphone (and the Droid I guess) is more superior than this phone, and then everyone in the forum must take out little tidbits of his post and try to convine him otherwise or prove him wrong - which I believe is completely pointless.
Let the guy go on to the next phone, I mean who cares lol
None of these issues are pressent on my phone anyways, I don't use the speaker - I use headphones, my signal is great, my touch screen is great, really everything is simply great. Honestly to me the sole purpose of these threads are to try and make the members of forums mad or shaken up, because lots of people in the Android community get rather irritated when you compare these phones to the iphone. Though they are meant to compete with it - people seem to praise the device to a point that is inhumane.
Really Steve did a good job making little iMinions.

Exactly. It's even worse imagining an iPhone running on android. You would truly have the best of both worlds. But instead you have to settle for one or the other which both have their drawbacks... I'm interested to see what Apple decides to introduce this summer, especially if they decide to unlock multitasking to fight off android.

I've always been a fan of Google. With that being said, I'll be looking forward to their next update, but HTC better consider updating a few things... And the reason why I say HTC is because they seem to be Googles main advocate. Perhaps instead of releasing 20 devices a year they should step back and put some $ into R&D and make fewer, but more perfected devices. I hope things change after froyo, and that Google stops playing games in terms of their phones (getting HTC to make them).

That's the conclusion I'm drawing to as well. I was initially surprised at the build quality of the N1, as it was an enormous step up from the G1, Magic and Dream, but it seems the internals (speakers, radio placement, etc) are still lacking as well as the touchscreen (in comparison to the iPhone). They should have included the clearpad 3000 to begin with, that's what's driving me crazy. Seems they cheaped out on us... to cut down on costs or whatever the excuse was, because didn't that tech surface last summer? I'm curious to see how the clearpad 3000 matches up to the 3 year old Apple touchscreen tech... Then again it's some moderately small company (Synaptics) vs. the monstrous Apple, so I'm not holding my breath. But will try to be optimistic about it. HTC should focus on building high end device because it seems they're just aiming for the mid end and hoping android will sell their devices... at least that's what it seems like to me.

I'm not trying to shake anyone up. If you enjoy your phone, all the power to you, honestly... And LOL at you calling me an Apple fanboi, I haven't used an iPhone in 6 months. The reason I'm comparing certain aspects of this phone to it is because they've done something right. I seriously hate Apple, Steve Jobs and his black turtlenecks... but if I want a touch phone that's reliable, I'd go with the iPhone, hands down. The only reason why I'm posting this is 'cause I'm so distraught at how this phone could have been IT, but it was another miss... And at this point in the game it's starting to get sad. I'm still laughing at you calling me an iMinion. I've owned 3 BBs, 3 HTCs, 2 iPhones and almost forgot the N97 all within the past year... and I hate all of them. Still waiting for THAT phone. If the iPhone had great RF and speakers, I'd love it. Same with regards to the Droid (even more so) but they are a few steps behind to make that happen.
EDIT:
Anyway, this wasn't the discussion I was trying to spark, far from it. Was hoping for some possible ROM remedies to some of my issues more than anything (mostly being the max volume for everything on the damn phone that makes sound). RF I don't have a big problem with considering the area I'm in is fantastic, and the touchscreen I'll have to suck up and get used to. Perhaps try that swype KB?

If the iPhone is MJ then it'd be easy to say the Nexus One is Lebron James... but since Google doesnt advertise the N1 much then I'd say its more like Kevin Durant (current best player who doesnt get much attention)
I wasn't calling you an iMinion (though I could've been fooled), I was calling PEOPLE iMinions, because it has been irritating hearing so much of the 'revolutionary' iPhone. Please, I really don't need your phone history.
I guess the love of the phone has just gotten to my head, because I just don't see what the problem is with this phone, and how so many people don't seem to be satisfied. And then they all have to go online and complain as if this phone is simply horrible. Like it doesnt even stand a chance against the iGod, and should be shoved aside until Apple's new invention.
Maybe because I'm simply not having problems, I don't expect anyone else to be having any either. Though, that is an unreal expectation.

I have some questions for you dhd owners as they are basiclly the same phone, please be honest.
1.how is the screen quality? With super Amoleds and iphone and atrix's high res screens how does the super LCD hold up? Does it look good in person? Text look good? Is it much better looking then say a 3GS? Very important to me, I want a good screen as I went from the Captivate to the 3G3 (my Captivate broke) and it was a huge downgrade imo.
2.Does the LED light do blue, red, yellow as well or just green and orange?
3.How is the camera quality? Wasnt impressed with the N1's camera and I here the desires was bad as well, this good?
4.How is the phone in person? Build quality? Does it feel REALLY big?
5.Will they get 2.3 officially? Beyond? And will it be supported a lot by xda devs in the future?
6.Music quality is very important to me, is the audio loud and good through headphones?
7.is the phone call quality loud and clear, another problem I had with my N1 and I eventually had to get rid of it because the call quality was too low.
8.Battery, be honest. How is it?
9.And finally how happy are you with your DHD and would you reccomend it to someone at this point in time?
Thanks in advance!

1. The screen quality is very good. (S)AMOLED vs (S)LCD is a thing that is really down to personal preference. I find LCDs better than AMOLEDs because the colors look more realistic. IMO the only thing AMOLEDs are better is the true black. Viewing angles in AMOLEDs are useless. You never look at your phone at that angle. Compared to iPhone 3G screen the DHD is mindblowing (I think 3GS has the same screen as 3G). Even compared to iPhone 4 the DHD holds its ground. Pixel density is lower but the big screen experience makes up for that.
2. Although the LED is tri-color and theoreticaly it can produce any color, AFAIK there is no way to make it flash other than green or amber for now.
3. Camera quality is good, minding it's a HTC's phone. You can check the camera guide in the sticky thread, there are ways you can improve the camera performance and some actual pictures taken with the DHD.
4. Build quality is amaising. It's my first phone with alluminum body and it makes a difference. Some users reported SIM and/or battery cover misalignment, but I have nothing of the sort. Also on mine DHD the camera is slightly misaligned with the body, but it doesn't interfere with its performance. Actualy I had the same issue with my second Touch HD, while the first one I had was perfect. Anyway that doesn't make photos blurry or anything.
The DHD might seem big, but in a few days you'll realise that it's just that all the other phones are small . I got used to it pretty fast. The fact that most of the area is used by the screen makes it's size reasonable. There is no feeling of a waste of space like on the iPhone.
5. I suppose the DHD will get 2.3 from HTC. Not so sure for anything else, but I'm willing to bet this great forum will not leave the DHD behind
6. The stock headphones are crap. With some quality headphones you can get great sound. Also SRS and Dolby make a difference.
7. Again there are user that complain about low in-call volume. I had no such issues, but it seems that if the headspeaker is not aligned with your ear the volume drops significantly.
8. Battery is good enough. With moderate to heavy use it easily lasts a day. At first it seems bad, because a/ it's still not conditioned and b/ you play with your new phone way too much. Once the excitement about your new toy has passed and the battery has few cycles behind it's back things improve. Charging every night is a must though. I could go through two days only with minimum usage.
9. Being my first Android I'm very excited about the DHD. I bought mine in late October and since then I had no reasons to be sorry about my purchase.
Anyway, if you have the chance to try the phone in person, I suggest you do it. Everyone demands different things from his/her phone and it's always best to see how you feel with the phone.

In that case I really think you should try it in a shop and decide for yourself. These are things that can most easily be checked with a live unit. Camera, volume, sound quality require more tweaking and time to evaluate, but screen and size are the two most noticable things in the phone
Yup on the 13th I will go to ATT and check out the inspire, I am kinda worried about the battery life but then again it cant be as bad as the 3GS im using...

Big and more portable then a tablet or Dell streak 5"
The screen is more natural then the s-amoled screens. No hard non-natural colors bumping in to your eyes.

+1 to this.
About audio volume, generally, I dont have any problems but playing YouTube video's useually nets me very low/weak volume. I have no idea why but everything else plays loud. It might be an app issue, methinks.
The only thing that really sucks is the mic.
1. Screen quality is great. Text is clear, images look wonderful, video is more than watchable on a screen this size (all depending on the source, of course).
2. I've only ever seen green and orange, but I've never needed any other colour.
3. It's an HTC phone; The camera is an afterthought, really. Autofocus performs well, images are typical for a camera phone really. For a quick snap at a party it's great, if you want photos to remember take a digital compact with you.
4. I found the phone very big to begin with, but got used to it very quickly. A lot of reviewers said it was too big to use one handed, but that's all I ever do now. I have big hands and can reach the screen with minimal adjustment. If you have smaller hands, you may have more of an issue. FWIW, typing even in portrait mode with both thumbs is easy on a screen this size.
5. No idea about Gingerbread officially, but I wouldn't be surprised if we got 3.0 on it too. Should be able to run the improved UI as the DHD has a dedicated graphics chip and capable CPU.
6. I sold my iPod. Enough said.
7. Like many people, I find that you need the phone placed very exactly over your ear to get good volume out of it. I also find that unless the phone is pressed against my cheek, the person on the other end has trouble hearing me. Not a big deal, just needed to adjust how I hold my phone.
8. I'd like more battery life, obviously, but I get a day out of it with moderate use, a weekend with light use.
9. I would absolutely recommend the DHD to anyone who wanted an android phone with a large screen, capable software and hardware, and the money to afford one. I almost sold it to get a Motorola Defy, but I'm glad I didn't.
4.How is the phone in person? Build quality? Does it feel REALLY big?

I am trying to recommend a AT&T phone for my mom, and I am thinking Inspire or atrix. I was leaning toward inspire because it will be available sooner, has a bigger screen, and a higher Megepixel camera. (plus I like my friends EVO)
I know that everybody likes to defend their phone, it is only natural, but please provide some cold hard feedback. There seems to be a lot of not so minor issues with this phone.
problems seem to be mounting from the feedback online:
1. Battery life is bad. every other 4"+ smartphone has a 1500 mah battery, and still have battery problems, so why make it even worse with a 1230 mah?
2. I am hearing the camera sucks. That is just the opposite of my Vibrant I find the pictures and video are incredibly good, and everyone always asks "did you really take that with your phone?" I figured an 8mp camera should be even better than the 5mp on my samsung, am I wrong about that?
3 The Mic sucks? what does this mean? Do people conplain about sound quality on phonecalls?
Dont get me wrong I love HTC build quality as I have had their phones before, but I dont want to buy a phone that I already know has some not so small problems. I also dont want my mom to have to tweak the heck out of the phone to make the battery last a day, or turn the screen down to where she can barely see it, or turn off 3g for goodness sake.
Are the problems popping up on the forums overblown? should I pick up an inspire, or should we wait for the Atrix?
My 2 cents
I'm a HTC die hard but I've had more issues with the DHD than any other devices before it.
A few (key) issues...
- Random reboots. Happened today during a call when an appointment alarm sounded off. Sometimes it just reboots when idle..
- Screen freeze - sometimes the device will not reach on touch input. Wait it out or reboot...
- Lag problem. The unofficial "USB fix" with reduced lags significantly, but not 100% on my device
- Bluetooth is slow to connect and sometimes only connects with HS profile (no A2DP). Half the times it's okay though. Also, A2DP disconnects randomly.
- Integration with Google navi removed in FW 1.72. But even with FW 1.32 there were problems - ex. Google Navi failing to lookup adress' searched from car panel.
This being a flagship device I expected a lot more. I still like HTC devices but I honestly cannot recommend the DHD to anyone.

There is something seriously wrong with your phone. For more than 3 months now, I didn't experienced a single random reboot, the only delay I have in touch input is when the phone is installing something and I think that's normal, the only lag issue I had experienced was back in the days when we had no permroot and I had the old version of Visionary (even without temprooting the device). The lag was gone as soon as I deinstalled Visionary, but I turned on USB debugging just in case. I only use BT to connect to my handsfree while driving and when transfering files to/from my laptop and had no problems with that. Don't know about Google navigation because it's not available in Bulgaria, the only flaw in the preinstalled navi app IMO is that it has no landscape mode.
Anyway check what you have installed on your phone and if you have overclocked, reduce the max freq, because the reboots you experience are deffinately not normal nor common.
No problems at all

You do have a faulty phone i believe because i do not have does issues..
As for call phone volume i m on the stock rom and i don't have that kind of issues, weird maybe i put right in the first place i don't know.
1. Screen is fab. My original desire amoled screen wasn't as sharp as dhd and I love it.
2. Size well at first I thought it will be to big but after few days i've got use to it and now holding anything smaller feels weird
3. Build quality well. No problems here really. My SIM cover has maybe 1mm gap but I use barely there protection case and don't pay attention to it.
Aluminium body is great but due to the phone being so thin quite often it slips of my hand but with protective case it makes it slightly thicker and it's just right now...
4. Battery is ok I can easily get day use and it's actually better than original desire
5. Camera well I'm not a photographer but photos look very good to me and I love sense photo enhance feature
6. Sound quality well ring tone could be Lauder and i've not been using my phone as mp3 player.
Voice quality is ok imo

What I dont like about the DHD?
1. The battery cover. That thing is damn hard to open.
2. That excess sealing thing at the right side of the LCD.
3. Volume rocker. Its a little to flush and difficult to use.
I wanna buy a new device and with the money i have now i can buy either sony X10 or HD2
is android stable now on hd2 or the sony x10 which is originally based on android better?
what about the performance and the compatible apps and games?
Owned both, settled on hd2. At the moment it's a matter of personal taste. I prefer the better build quality, bigger screen size and extra RAM of HD2; x10 will give you better GPS and battery life + 720p video. Cameras are about equally vile, x10's 8mp is super noisy over 5mp anyway.
HD2's aGPS is shonky, but regular GPS is fine, you just have to wait a bit longer for your first lock.
Also, you get the iconoclastic feel good buzz with hd2, so you can lord it over the generic android crowd.
Sent from my Atari 600XL using cassette tape and a stamp.
thanks for reply
what about the android itself?
if both devices are the same specifications will android work on both with the same quality?
I can only compare my hd2 against my wife's vibrant, which is also a native android phone.
From what I can see, hd2 runs every bit of android except one shortcoming: the color depth is not as good as a native device due to the fact that android is ported, not native. Everything else is perfect

when comparing my hd2 to the atrix (att's flag **** phone) i went back to the hd2. Very little differences between them. You notice no differences in everyday use except for battery life, and gps connection speed. And its a dual core phone!
secondly, charnsingh_online is fixing the missing kernal code. which will offer more features, and fix current bugs. hes doning an amazing job.
thirdly, because sony sued geohot. I gave up on sony products for now. which is a while nother issue.
go for the hd2 and clk and you will not notice much a difference.
Lawl I find it hard to believe sony's x10 camera is as bad as the HTC camera, since sony is well known for having good cameras, and hTC producing well, "****" cameras. A bit of exaggeration yes, but we all know HTC doesn't produce the camera we want.
Anyways, yes everything is working, the x10 might be a bit snappier, but the HD2 has a variety maybe of 5x the x10 has?

I've also owned both and would take the HD2 every day of the week.
As I'm a stock nut, I've settled on tytungs Nexus V2.7 ROM and everything works.
As I see it the only thing the X10 has that an Android HD2 doesn't is the ability to charge it when its turned off (not that anyone cares about that crap.!)
I also love the hardware keys to answer & end calls.

I agree HTC has a history of putting horrible cameras into good phones. But the HD2's camera is actually pretty darn good. I mean it's not a photographer quality super camera or anything, but it is worlds apart from the previous 2 HTC phones I've owned (Kaiser and Rhodium). It is imo as good as you really need a cel phone camera to be

Actually, if you have cLK and flash CWM with Rom Manager you can charge while power off. It may not be a game changer but it is possible now and a nice feature.
(Just retested to make sure i wasn't lying)
Since i have owned both phones, i thought to put my 2¢ into this. I got my x10 in august 2010 (thats when i joined xda), it was running android 1.6 then (everyone else was on 2.2), it was laggy, the timescape and media scape didint help either and there was no way of disabling them, some of the apps weren't compatible with it but most of all you couldn't get root on it, therefore no custom roms and S.E. said they were going to update it to 2.1 and that would be it so i started to hate it, not the actual device so much as S.E. but non the less i didn't like it any longer, but i was hooked on android.
Thru some mishap (sent phone to unlock, they lose it, i get a check), i bought my beloved HD2 and i love it more and more everyday. I have been running nand android since magldr(SD builds before that) and now i'm using clk with HyperDroid BGX and it feels just like any another android phone. HD2 has come a long way to supporting android but it does now and is stable enough to use everyday. There is one thing i hate about this phone and thats the <b>glass</b> screen, it has the misfortune of breaking easily, if you drop it. 1/4 of my screen is cracked right now and thats the second time i cracked the screen.
To sum it up. Well things have changed since i had the x10 but if i had to choose between those 2 then i'd still get the HD2 any day but thats just me.
Just to clarify for those who never owned an x10. Both phones have 65k dual touch screens.
Both have pretty horrible cameras, while the x10's 8MP is ok in very bright daylight, even slightly overcast sky generates a tonne of noise. Small ccd = tiny sensors, you need to keep dropping the resolution to stop it turning into pixelated mess. The 5MP on the HTC is more consistent (lol, consistently bad tbh, but much better than HTC's other efforts from that generation), however, the smoothing software on it is pretty ****ty - it can obliterate detail if you let it. X10 has only a single flash as, opposed to HD2's dual, annoyingly you can't make it work as an ehm ... flash. Sony makes you turn it on like a torch, then turn it off after each shot manually. It gets really annoying quickly, especially since it's probably the most anaemic light source ever, you'd be better off flicking your zippo on. (This may have been fixed in custom roms. )
Bit ott, but if you want decent video, get an iPhone, sorry the inability of android to adjust volume gain means the audio is horrible and often distorted. For example if you video a band the sound track will just be a distorted mess, there's no way to adjust the gain - wtf Google? You don't need to record loud music to see that, if you hold the camera and speak loudly it will distort. (There's a hilarious posting on Samsung's website where an owner complaiins about this, and is told by tech support to put their finger over the microphone - classy.) Having said that, if you like silent movies X10's 720p shooter is pretty good when paired up with a class 4+ sd card.
Personally I found the gorilla glass display on the hd2 to feel more robust then x10's more plastic feeling effort. However the more widescreen format makes it easier to use one handed than the hd2. Downside of that is that webpages look smaller when browsing than the 4" screen size would lead you to believe. It's a very narrow screen. However X10's smaller screen plus higher resolution makes text visibly crisper and easier to read at small sizes. Not quite iPhone 4, but pretty close.

just wondering which radio version do you recommend for Australian users? I read somewhere certain radio version can cause high battery drain and poor reception? And does the T-mobile HD2 works well on vodafone/3 network, I mean are there any issue when roaming on Telstra network?
I recommend radio ROM 2.12 for australian users, I used 2.15 for ages and had loads of data issues, but 2.12 is perfect. No complaints at all. Don't know about TMOUS in australia though
HD2 is better
Well HD2's Android capability is same as any stock Android phone (or even better sometimes). Also I like the HD2's design better than the X10. X10 is bulky.
appreciate if somebody would tell me the hardware differences between difference HD2 models? According to Wikipedia, T-mobile T8585 900/2100 comes with 1GB ROM and 576 RAM, slightly different dimension and lighter?

(This may have been fixed in custom roms. )

No gorilla glass on hd2 mate...
[EDIT]
wow...

actually it looks like You were right... but it gets scratched easily with even grain of sand, so...
HD2
For me HD2's better, in looks and quality. Android runs just as well as any native, but it depends a lot on the android build you choose.
The biggest advantage IMHO is the extra ram, 576 v. 384 for x10. It's a problem with x10 if you have a few big apps. For example, when I use copilot nav and have music playing in the car, hd2 remains smooth and has no problem launching other apps without launcher closing. X10, (while not as bad as something like Droid / milestone/magic 3g) will have to unload the launcher and will usually stop playback when another app is launched. Tbh, I never had the hd2 have a memory issue, you can even play a reasonably grunty game without your other apps unloading. Gun Bros comes to mind.

Hi all, I've received my new Galaxy s2 three days ago and I've faced a lot of the same problems that were affecting my first Sgs.
Here is a quick list:
1- Wifi poor reception (worse than sgs, desire, desire hd and Iphone 4)
2- Screen is blueish like my first sgs(In miu rom or cm7 it isn't blue because I can set the red color with voodoo color!!! so it's a faulty software calibration damn!!)
3- Gps lock is fast but not strong, it keeps disconnecting with Google navigator and works better with Sygic. Worse than Desire, Desire hd, Iphone 4, but better than my Sgs.
4-Random reboot!
5- Poor sound output through headphone!! Worse than all the other devices except Sgs, but since Supercurio realeased Voodoo sound it rocks!
I don't know if this problems could be solved by the community, but I am very frustrated. I put my trust in Samsung again and in the online reviews but now i fell betrayed.
I hope that I could return my phone to get another device but since htc locked its bootloaders I don't know what to choose...
I hope You all find my post useful if You are going to buy Sgs 2.
Could anyone that has Lg phone like optimus 2 tell me if this phone is good or if it has a lot of problems like galaxy 2?
not worth the effort of posting against a fixed viewpoint .
Deleted my phone works details as someone dont agree that out of a million phones sold some work ok .
jje
I've got one on order but all this disappointment is swaying me to cancel it and hold out with my iPhone 4 a while longer, there's nothing wrong with it to me anyway.
Don't return the phone, there's nothing wrong with it.
I've had 4 Galaxy S2's pass through my ownership so I think I'm pretty well equipped to say whats normal for these phones and whats not.
- Wifi
Wifi reception IS poor. My old HTC Desire and my girlfriends HTC Desire both get MUCH better range on the wifi than the Galaxy S2. The range on all the Galaxy S2's I've had has been the same - poor. This is a common complaint about the G2. Anyone who says they don't have this problem either has no idea what good wifi range is, or is just lying out of their ass.
- Screen
The screen does indeed have a blueish tint on it. There's a thread about it on these forums. Nothing we can do about that. Again, another common issue to all G2's.
Also the some other issues you have mentioned. Touch screen sensitivity is on the low side, you can tap the screen lightly and quickly enough so that it doesn't register an input. This is impossible to do on a HTC Desire.
Also the pixel response time is said to be 0.001ms by Samsung, but this is a load of crap. It works out closer to 6-8ms, as evident when scrolling black text on a white background (or vice versa) the text will blur slightly.
- GPS
The GPS is pretty poor at the moment, hopefully it improves with updates, majority of people are complaining about this, myself included. None of the 4 G2's I had could get a quick lock on GPS (they take flipping ages). The GPS is REALLY hit and miss at the moment.
- Random Reboots
This is a REALLY REALLY common issue. It's been reported everywhere. However, depending on the frequency of the reboots would determine whether or not I'd class it as faulty. Of all the G2's I've had, NONE of them have randomly rebooted. However if yours has rebooted like once or twice over the week, I'd count that as normal, happens on a few android phones. But if it does it anymore than that, get it replaced.
- Poor Sound Output
This is completely subjective. But I have an expensive amp and speaker setup that I use on my PC which I've got used to so I'm really picky about sound quality and yes I agree, the sound output is abit naff. But it's not terrible by any means. I can live with it.

If you think desire and Desire HD has better sound, you need your ears checked.
Desire HD is horrid, absolutely horrid when it comes to sound. It does not even give you proper stereo effects. Its a disaster.
That 1 point made me ignore whatever rest you said.
I use it with miu rom and it comes with dsp that made the sound good. The only problems I have with Dhd is low ringtone( partially solved by kernel implemention) and incall volume very very low and distorted at full volume.
Someone thinks is possible a change if a return the phone in the first 7 days with another phone?
It sounds like you have a faulty device tbh.
I can't compare to all the devices you can but my girlfriend has a desire (on my recommendation.) The SGS2 is superior in every issue you're having. And i loved her desire. I was actually surprised how much of a leap the SGS2 felt like.

All new phones have issues. Actually ALL phones have issues period. This phone is actually getting hugely positive reactions from both reviewers and general users like myself. It always amuses me how some people can only focus on the negative comments
I'm extremely happy with my SGS2. Comparing it to my Nexus S, DHD, Dell Streak, SGT and HD7, I have no complaints at all.
I will buy the HTC Sensation/Pyramid when it comes out, which will be a mistake (locked bootloader), I will set it up and then put it in a drawer forever.
If anyone doesn't like their SGS2, simply take it back. I will be keeping mine. It is amazing.

he is talking about the sound volume level thru headphones i believe. and since tons of other people claim the SGS2 has poor headphone volume, i think he is telling the truth. just look around the forum, the posts are everywhere.
Exactly I was talking about headphones...I think that I will try a substitution to see if another sgs2 is different
I used GPS + Google Nav for over 5 hours straight 2 days ago... not a single overshoot, random jump to an adjacent street, arrow spinning around at a stop light, lost signal, etc. I don't know what the GPS complaints are about as I also own an unbranded i9000, but the SGSII's GPS/Nav performance is VOLUMES better than the i9000 GPS was even with both software and hardware tweaks.
Agreed on the WIFI though, WIFI does seem a bit weaker, but then again, the SGS's WIFI wasn't that great either. The plus side is, I do find the mobile reception much better than the SGS... my house is at the edge of coverage, and I could barely get a signal at times with the SGS. SGSII pulls H+ with no problems at my house.
At the end of the day, you're packing in WIFI, multiple GSM/UTMS, bluetooth bands, GPS all into one very slim device with limited real estate, I figured one of the antennas would be weaker. This time around, it looks like it's WIFI that suffers.

Heh, even I reported that volume is on lower side compared to other phones in that audio thread as soon as I got my SGS2.
But I would still take sgs2 volume over unacceptable stereo output of Desire HD.
Volume is actually sufficient if you have iems with decent isolation. Over ear headphones might be a problem.
Sent magically from Samsung Galaxy S 2.
Never have a single sudden reboot on my phone( maybe it reboots during my [email protected]@)
Coming from an ip4, the soud via headphone is rather bad, hopes voodoo will make it better
Nothing to complain with my phone.

1) What you mean by wifi range? I always get full bar anywhere in my house except my backyard with 3 bars.
2) Screen? Don't really care about it. And I think average consumer too dont really care about the tint.
3) GPS locked in 3sec everytime i use it. Never got disconnect or any other problem.
4) Random reboots? Really? I've seen those thread about it but tbh i never encounter this kind of issues.
5) Sound quality is not important to me. A decent one would be enough. Without using earphone, I prefer SGS II than my DHD. But when using earphone DHD is much better. And yes this is very subjective.
After following a few thread about SGS II problem I'm glad that my SGS II doesn't have it. So far i'm happy with my phone and it does whatever I want. In the end of the day there is no perfect phone in this world and everyone wants more and more. Is hard to pleased tech gadget but I think for average consumer this phone is good enough at the moment.
i actually like this phone lol
I guess people from first batch was the lucky ones. I'm not having any of the listed issue.

Nope, even people who got their GS2 on release have been having issues (like me)
oh maaan, i was about to purchase this phone in the coming month. and was expecting this phone's volume to be powerful just like my omnia hd. but.... it disappointed me, sh......t wat the hell is this. ok is there any one who can confirm whether this problem [ headphone volume] can be fixed by xda xperts .plzz
weird. no problems here, and I had two gs2's, since the first one had a dead pixel, so I exchanged it.

I think I saw in code somewhere in GS2, don't remember where, that it sets limit because of EU(we have laws for max. volume). I think we'll have to look that way, but it seems to be a good reason.
With PowerAmp & EQ "Phone Speaker Loud" it is loud enough for me .
