Goodbye and thank you! - Touch CDMA General

I got a HTC dream now, and it's time to lay my vogue to rest. The vogue was a brilliant phone, but I didn't really see how brilliant it was until people like mssmison or zenulator started providing all sorts of support for Android.
Sorry if this is sort of a random thread or something, but I just wanted to say thanks to you guys. Without you and this section my experiences with the Vogue would have been limited to Windows Mobile. And we all know that is -shudders- very bad.

iPhone interface-Point UI

hi folks, i recently found this application 'Point UI'. You may find some other threads for this, as well. It provides kindda iPhone interface to windows mobile. I ain't crazy for Apple iPhone user interface and themes, but i am sure, there are some people who would definitely appreciate a change.
This software, i have tried on WM5/WM6, works perfectly on them. People usin' WM2/WM3, can try at their own risk and lemme know the compatibility. It is not exactly iPhone interface, but the basic Slide and Touch Navigation works perfectly fine without any hassles. On top of that, people like me, usin' windows mobile with the same good old interface would surely enjoy this change.
And sorry, for not being able to post this application here. Some account related issue, is there. That's why i am posting it on rapidshare. You can PM me, if you face any difficulty in downloadin' i'll e-mail it to you.
Adieu..

Congratulations you're an idiot.
Been hiding under a rock much? We've known about this since it launched on new yaers day. Besides, why would anyone download your CAB, which could contain anything at all; when they can get the official client from www.pointui.com?
I fail to see how being mean to this guy is going to solve anything fellas. Not EVERYONE is a freakin' geek like us. Give him a break.
Err....what kind of 'break' should we give him (kidding...). This post earns a thread lock....

I think you could stay more polite here! Do you want to go through 500+ pages to find a post when you are looking for it then go on supporting double posting! In my opinion this is kind of double posting beacuse everywhere in this forum posts concerning PointUI are popping up and on each page you'll find the string 'PointUI' at least one time!
Yes, not all of us breathe PPC Tech, but like I said everyone will notice that this app is already known when entering this forum.

I thought I'd put your statement to the test! On entering this forum, there is only this thread which mentions PointUI, therefore unless one is used to the ways of how forums work and this one in particular, only a search would have revealed what you are saying.
Sometimes people come across things in different places and believing they have found something amazing, they just rush over to xda devs to share the good news.
More experienced ones are more inclined to do an internal search first.
Whilst I agree that you are right about being more polite here...apologies to anyone offended, you might take some time out to remember what it's like to be a newbie at something or less experienced than someone else.
Someone makes an innocent mistake by 'who's standards?' but it is very helpful to others who happen to be browsing.

Sprint HTC Touch...Question

Hey guys new to the forum and new to hacking. My brother sent me to this forum, he said they know a lot about HTC. I don't have a problem getting around a phone, but never hacked one. My Uncle is giving me his old HTC Touch(he found out he doesn't like touch screens) I am on verizon and he is sprint. Is there a way to use this phone on verizon. Thanks guys
Oh man. It's not hacking, it's just making HTC better
What I found by searching is that your device isn't Elf but Vogue, so you're writing in bad forum. And read XDA-Wiki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2066864
Maybe it will help.
Cool...i See the dif between the elf and the vogue. GSM-CDMA. Gotcha. I think i need to do a lot of reading. but I appreciate you sending me in the right direction.

Cmon HD2/Android Development!!!

Android Running On The iPhone
Yea yea yea I know its a iPhone, different OS, blah blah blah...But I figured that was pretty cool.
What does this have to do with HD2 Android development? This is what the "General Discussion" category is for.
well gee,... dont read it if it bothers you so much. How much sense does it make to flame him for this?
My guess he is saying that if they got it on the iPhone the Devs should hurry up and get it going on the HD. Well if you would like it sooner then help out in some way other just starting a thread asking for it.

Yeah, it just irritates me when people act like the developers should have it ported already and don't show appreciation for all the hard work and progress they have made on it. They are making GREAT progress and are spending their time doing it for free. By the title of this thread and it's content, it sounds like just what you said... that the iphone has it now so it should be done for the HD2 by now. I have been replying to most of the many threads started about the HD2 android/linux port and try to explain just how much work it actually takes. People seem to think it's just like cooking a rom or that having an android phone with similar specs should make it an easy port... but it's much more complicated than that.
Oh I know that. That is one of the reason most of my stuff never gets released.
god dangit!

there's the DEVELOPER thread
don't post useless crap in there
Can we please stop these android threads??? I mean ffs if you wanted android get a flipping android powered device! Want android on an htc? Get the touch pro 2!
I mean this is retarded every week 2 new android threads??? seriously??? aiya
LMAO Ok calm down yall I just said that was pretty cool....no big deal. If you didnt want to see a android thread dont click on a title that clearly says it. Point blank.
So basically, the iPhone has been out for like 3 or 4 years and one guy has a port.
I'm one of the few who aren't impressed with Android. I find WinMo 6.5 to be much smoother, faster and overall better than even the best Android phone out right now. So I hope HTC doesn't turn the HD2 or HTxx into a Google based phone.
On top of all that the linux developement on iphone has been going on for a while now too. The fact that its on the phone is cool but its still in alpha status. HD2 just started so yea.... def cool to see that though.

i just don't get it?

you know i was just reviewing the tp2 section of xda, the android section i should say. i see they have a port of ubutnu for the phone now. i guess i just don't get as to why you would want it? sorta the same with us hero users wanting to try out debian on our phones? whats the point of it?
if i were a touchpro2 "and i was very briefly" user id want a full port of android like the vogue users had. i mean what zen, dzo & mission were able to do to that dying phone to breath new life into it is outstanding and deserves total respect and applause from all of us.
get what im trying to say?

For anybody that doesn't want to have to read this sentence 10 times to understand it, here's a punctuated and readable version:
If I were a Touch Pro 2 owner, and I actually was for a very brief period, I'd want a full port of Android, much like the Vogue users had.
I don't get what you are trying to say....
@ubuntu, the TP2 has a physical keyboard so ubuntu would be much more practical then on the hero.
@android port for TP2, ummmmm who cares about the TP2? I used dzo's android port for a long time and I greatly respect everything that they have accomplished. It truly is amazing.
I agree.

The sole reason I didn't get the TP2 was the fact it was running WinMo.
WinMo has to be the worst phone UI ever, why the heck would anyone want to use a stylus to navigate the UI. Nevermind the fact I've never heard one positive review of Windows Mobile as far as speed was concerned.

sorry i was sick as hell yesterday and still am. thanks mr grammar nazi's!
my point was having a port of ubuntu is stupid IMO, id rather have a fully working android port that could be flashed to nand like the vogue users have. got it now?
I dunno if I had a TP2 and then upgraded to something else but still had my old TP2 laying around. I would most likely put something like ubuntu on it for ****s and giggles.
fixxxer,
wow, you've graduated from useless personal opinion posts to starting whole new useless personal opinion threads. Way to go man, you're really making progress. Congratulations.
I might have a couple ideas as to why someone would attempt to run ubuntu, debian or just about anything else on their phone:
1. just because
2. it's a challenge just to see if you can do it
3. It's fun
4. did I mention "just because"
Just a heads up: your frustration over not having the skills to do these things yourself is showing...muffintop

what crawled up your ass? what just because i posted an opinion about that app you helped create? the point of a message board is to create, help and debate. all i did was give an opinion, there is no reason for you to get all worked up. it's not like i said it was useless.
Actually, man, if you leave out the first and last paragraphs and just read his list, he answered your question perfectly. The fact that you don't get it says s lot. This is, at its base, a community of hackers (or hacker wannabes, like me). Half the reason we do ANYTHING with our phones is because we can. Just for the sheer unadulterated HELL OF IT! Kinda like choosing to do themes the hard way yourself, rather than using metamorph. The fact that some of what we do makes our phones more functional is sometimes almost secondary to the feeling of having got your hands dirty and done something yourself. It is the same thing that drives people to DIY rather than just buying the finished product at the store...even when you might have saved a buck and some time just dropping the cash.

In an attempt to bring this thread back around to topic and stop some of the bickering:
The reasons I see for doing something like installing Debian or Ubuntu on a phone are pretty simple:
1. To see what is possible
2. To find out what your are capable of
3. To find out what the device is capable of
4. To do something that no one else around you has done
In other words, why not?

Sometimes the purpose is the trip not the destination. That's how I feel about hacking our phones, anyway. 90% of the time, I don't really need to be able to access my desktop and take control of it through VNC, but the fact that I can makes me really happy. I don't need to be able to stream HD movies on my phone, but the fact that I will be able to with the evo has me excited. What color flashes on the screen when i tap an app doesn't really make a flying fvck in the long run, but I like the glassy blue, so I rip into every rom I download and change it. To me, that is the why that answers your initial question. To someone for whom the end functionality is the ultimate goal, the this may not make any sense, but to someone else who enjoys the process of creation and tinkering, the opposite might be true. And in a community of devs and hackers, i think you are likely to find as many or more of the latter than the former.
