Stupid Question! - Touch HD General

This phone has a number of how many times i can change the rom? Should i expect in one day just to die of to many rom´s change?

if you do around 10000
as the rom is flash and flash have a limited number of times you can write to it
but long long long before your rom flash storage dies your normal storage will have
bitten the bullet as your normal storage where programs and files are stored is the same type of flash

so, i can stay calm and keep testing rom's thanks!

the more i visit these forums, the more confused i get!help!!

I'm all confused as to what rom is the best to install
I installed 1.60a, and used it thinking it was the best....higher version number!
It was so cool, that I wanted to read every single post, and all the excitement you guys have had while getting it to work...started reading at 10 in the night, kept reading every post, one by one, until 4:00am next morning!!!!
I then realized, holy ****, 1.50i.xx is the latest, and is more practical!!
Believe it or not, i did a complete reinstall after that at 4:00am
I further continue reading, i read that 1.60a with a ram disk is a better option!! now, i'm all confused as to what i need to install
Somebody help!!!!
Thanks guys in advance!
And Buzz.....where the hell did you get your brains from man? Do you work at ROM Cooking division of Microsoft during day, and have an MPD...morph into a hacker at night or what???!! What IDE do you use to build ROMs for microsoft....a hex editor?? Whatever, you're absofuckinlutely rocking dude!!
Best,
San
Just my two cents...
I use 1.60a because the 16MB storage + 16 MB ExtROM are persistent. Every program and data that you install into these two are still there even if the battery is dead.
Originally 1.60a was limited as it only offered a max of 32 MB to install programs and data (16MB + 16MB). But with the ramdisk you can install many more programs. However, the programs or data installed in the ramdisk are of course not persistent, which means you will lose it if the battery goes dead.
Hence, if you value persistence above storage, go for 1.60a and use the ramdisk for additional storage capacity.
If you don't care about persistence and always carry a spare battery with you, go for the 1.5xxx versions according to your storage needs.

Hey thanks very much for your reply!
I really dont care how much device memory i have. I have a max of 10 megs of apps that need to go on device memory. The problem i faced was that, the 14 meg storage disk kept getting filled up to something around 10 megs....and i was worried where all the common dlls etc. would also end up going into this (even if i install the app onto my storage card) and end up consuming the entire storage space.
Btw, how do you gain access to other 16 meg partition? Do i need to use an ext rom unlocker or something? Where can i grab that?
Also, how do i create a RAM disk on 1.60a? I read the post, but it seems to confusing...and i didnt know what to do. Besides, i didnt have the ramdisk cab file for 1.60a. Would be great if you could mail it to me or something!
Heres my mail id - [email protected]
Once again, thanks very much!!
Best,
San
Here is Toe's file to unlock the ExtROM. Copy to PPC, start and softreset. Cheers

Rom flashing - how many times possible?

Hi,
like most geeks I like trying out all the roms on my Trinity.
My question is : how many times can one flash the Trinity rom, before the Trinity internal ROM memory gets used up?
Is there a limit like you have on SD cards, or is it unlimited?
thanks!
There is a limit but I doubt that anyone has ever hit it yet. Perhaps you'll be the first one?
rom is flash like storage
and as such have a limited nr of writes
but one really have to flash alot for the rom
part to die before the storage which is written to all the
time in normal usage

Please help I cannot get Android to load ....

I have been trying for now going on 15 hours straight and for the life of
me I cannot get Android to load . I have hspl3 , 3nergy Rom , 2.15.50 Radio .
I have tried 5 different types of Android builds (not at the same time) .
What happens is Ill get the Penguin then the HTC White Screen , Then the
Android Icon , then right when it gets to load into the lock screen it vibrates
and shuts the phone completely down . No change between builds . I have
tried different SD cards all formatted to FAT32 , Factory Reset device many times ,
Every single time I Extract the .zip files to the SD Root so theres an Android
folder or if there isnt one I make one . I make sure the SD cards are empty when
doing this too . Please help Im ripping my hair out
First of all, try downgrading the HSPL to 2.08, some people report "issues" with version 3 (for some it works perfect, for some it doesn't work at all).
You may also want to Task29 the phone. This will completely wipe every piece of data from the memory (contacts, sms etc) so use a backup program first if there is anything you want to keep. I appreciate this is quite drastic but it will ensure there's nothing on the phone that could be causing issues.
Try the spl version version, then with a freshly formatted SD card (full format, FAT32, at least 2Gb as some builds require 1.5Gb to create the datastore) try loading Android and fingers crossed you won't have to Task29.
My Leo is a 1024 . Would that be causing these issues ? Oh and the HSPL is 2.08.HSPL
If you've got extended battery then this is your problem. Try a build with extended battery support or replace the kernel with a version that does support extended battery
Yep I have an extended battery . Would the Android build be reading the battery stats wrong and shutting down the phone ?
Thats what the problem was ! Extended battery doesnt work with Android builds ! Thanks for the help !
That's not quite right mate. You can run almost every build with extended battery. All you have to do is either to find a build with support for extended batteries or to download 'regular' build and use a kernel that supports extended batteries.
For the second option it's as much work as to overwrite existing kernel files with the suitable one - takes less than a minute check for example Kernel buils of hatstarin with the extention eb or m-deejay kernels with ext battery support. Since I figured out what was the problem I'm a big fan of m-deejays work.

[Q] Flashing to Android

Hey all, I've been browsing around the forums trying to find answers but I must not be fully comprehending what's being explained.
I recently got a HTC HD2 (Person sent wrong phone on eBay - Purchased a HTC Desire after 4 weeks receive HD2 can't be without a phone for another month or 2). After playing around with Windows Mobile OS I have decided that I don't enjoy the experience of using the phone and have decided to try and flash Android to the device (thus why I am here).
I'm about to update the ROM to the latest official ROM from the HTC website (to update the Radio to get ready for flashing) however my problem lies after this.
I currently have a 2GB MicroSD card. "A breif guide to installing and maintaining Android" recommends a 4GB MicroSD card where others say I may use a 512MB MicroSD card. Thus leading to my confusion in flashing my device.
If anyone could point me in the right direction with the size of the sdcard I need and a "fool-proof" guide to flashing, or even a guide written for the average Joe to understand I would appreciate it.
Kind regards.
Well firstly, it doesnt matter what size of card you have aslong as it can hold the android files and your data.img (internal storage file).
Second, You can not currenly "flash" any android to your phone, You only have the ability to reboot your phone into android OS and this would be ran from your sd card, Your phone in no way will be altered or flashed with any rom.
I will not attempt to tell you how to accomplish this as its a ridiculous question to ask as its obviously a faq and has been asked too many times and answered too many times..

Thank you for the quick response. I've been reading all I can here, however, it seems that everything is going over my head (such as things like SPL and Radio Versions). I'm not looking for a free ride with doing this, I'm just trying to find some assistance in a way I can understand.
Mods, please close this thread. I have solved my problem.
Kind regards.

Will Windows Phone 7 be available to boot from SD Card via MAGLDR ?

Hi ! I think the title is all I want to say ! ;D Simple Question.. but I'm waiting for a reply from someone who may know the answer..
PS: The reason I'm asking this is because, I'm currently using Android 2.2 NexusHD2 V1.9G NAND Build, so I'm happy a lot with it, but I want to test Windows Phone 7 of course, so I noticed that there isn't an SD Build of WP7, there is only NAND Build, so I must backup all my data from the SD Card & format it & you know.. takes time to prepare the device for the WP7, & backed up my NAND Android Build & converted it into a SD Android Build, so if I will like WP7, I will remain & will use it, & will use my Android Build on SD from now on.. but of course.. I will see if I will like it... who knows.. maybe I will not..
So again, why I'm asking is because I don't want to see that I've wasted time on making my device run WP7 on NAND & Android on SD & after a few days to see how developers release a version of Windows Phone 7 which can be booted directly from SD Card... if you got my point of view..
Yeah I'm hoping for this too, I just want WP7 to play with, not as my primary OS (yet).
Android NAND versions came faster than expected, and virtually out of nowhere, WP7 NAND came. The developers behind those solutions are quite busy doing a lot of stuff for us, but you never should expect anything with exact timing.
Be thankful that all those solutions do exist at all. And from time to time, users like you and me should contribute in one or another way to make other things possible.
Last, but not least, the flashing process is so fast with an HD2, and there are so many really good backup solutions, that I cannot fully understand your request. If you´re intending to test a couple of days only, why hesitate? You can easily go back to another OS within really short time. Any other, in fact.
Already Testing WP7 !

Well, you know what, I think you're right, & I'm already on Windows Phone 7 now.. I've backed up all my Android 2.2's Data with the ClockWork Mod's Recovery Feature & copied it to my PC, so now everything is backed up & I will stay a few days on WP7 & test it to see if I will really like it, & I will repartition my SD for to use both WP7 & Android & will put a good build of Android to be on SD so I can boot into via MAGLDR when I will want to... & will copy my Android Used Build's Data.img to the new Android Build which I will use it on SD..
So, anyway, thanks for fast reply... Good Luck to you Friends !
