How to share internet connection? - Networking

Hi all,
I have a question for all you guru of networking.
I have a Modem Router ADSL Netgear DG834GT. I always used it with cable connection and worked fine. Now I moved to a new home that still is not povided by adsl line. Right now I am using my HD2 in tethering with my laptop to connect to internet. I was thinking about the possibility to make my Netgear DG834GT to share my HD2 connection via WiFI. Would it be possible? Can I share my ppc internet connection by using my Netgear DG834GT router. If yes, how to configure router?. I simply have tried to connect my HD2 to the Netgear DG834GT...and even if it connected to the router, the router didn't share internet connection coming from ppc...
THX so much and forgive me if my question is...a wired one.

Yes, of course, and I am using it. But What I should try it's different. I want my Netgear modem router to share not adsl line, but my ppc line.

Well your question is, erhm, very wireless, actually
Anyhow, you should be able to achieve what you want by setting up default route on your NetGear that points to the IP of Wi-Fi interface of your HD2. You may also need to adjust IP routing parameters (e.g. add static routes, enable NAT, etc...) on your HD2, depending on how your services provider configured the APN.
And this is where it becomes a bit complex. There are no tools readily available for WnMo that allow management of IP protocol. You'll need to change a few things in the registry and maybe even write a program to manage static routes on your HD2.

Passing Desktop internet to PPC via ad hoc connection

I know that one can create a ad hoc network to share the desktops files and stuff without network computer. So can't i share internet?(off course i can). But i want this internet on my ppc,via wlan. Please help me!!!!
I do not want to use any router, usb, and active sync doesn't works in vista
Using vista home premium,
netgear wlan card
ppc i mat jasjam,a.k.a dopood 838pro.or tytn I.
Netgear Wlan card? What does it do? Is it a WiFi enabled modem/router through which you connect your PC to access the net? If yes, then connect your PPC directly to it!
Else, if netgear is a WLAN card, learn how you can make it act like an hotspot and then connect your PPC.
Get me?
Regards,
Carty..

I'd love to know how this can be done as well...
Solution
I had internet over NIC one,and wireless network to connect my PPC to desktop. Now to pass internet to Wireless NIC just "bridge connection" from control panel-network and sharing centre-manage network connection....Right click on NIC1-add to bridge....right click NiC2-add to bridge
N.I.C-----Network interface card or lan card.If you don't have a switch, router then its a good idea to bridge all your networks so they are interconnected. A true web of networks. Any questions...message me.
One more thing, you cannot use a wireless card(net gear Belkin etc) as a gateway cuz one simple reason that it is not a router its just a connection point. I had a talk with Microsoft regarding this they say they might provide software to do this thing in the next windows. You can Google for software which can force your wifi card(wireless) card to become a gateway(hot spot) but chances of finding stable software are rare.

PPPOE On X1 ????

i want to connect to a PPPOE (adsl) internet connection with my X1's Wifi !!!
please help me !!!
Hi there, I think that you are talking about two different things here, the first is the ADSL mode PPOE, you need a so called ADSL "modem" or gateway (that includes the "modem" and other stuff, like an ethernet hub, router and WiFi access point).
To gain access to the ADSL with your PDA, you need an ADSL gateway with the WiFi access point, there are many of them, just be sure to buy the appropriate thing for your provider/region/speed.
If you want any other help, be more specific, in this way you'll get a more specific answer.
Cheers
Ps, remember to read (not only in XDA) but elsewhere as this is a very basic question and you might end up buying something wrong for your needs.

more info please !!!
Irrelevent
The connection protocol/method (PPPoE) is irrelevent here. To connect to the PPPoE connection you need a capable router/modem. This will of course need to be connected to a Wifi Router (or have one inbuilt) in order to "share" the network with your device (including the internet connection). As far as the Xperia is concerned it's connected to an internet capable local area network, your WAN (Wide Area Network (ASDL Internet Connection)) network type is totally unimportant as far as the phone is concerned.

Brodband

When I want to use wifi on my laptop i have to connect it to my router and then connect it to brodband ( maybe it isn't brodband but I don't the word). Can i do that on Jade, i have no problems connecting to router but then i don't no what to do. If you don't no what to do I'll keep stealing internet from my neighbors and you will be guilty because you didn't help them . Sorry for bad english.

If you can connect your laptop to your wireless router , you surely can connect your Jade exactly the same. Just key in the same setting parameters. Why do you have to use your neighbours network.
The problem isn't that i can't connect to my router. When i connect my computer to the wireless router i can't just use internet but i must enter a user name and a password for something. Does anybody now how to do this on Jade.

What's normally done is - let the router do the auto (and continuous) connection to the internet, by setting username and password on the router. Then control the connection to the wireless (security enable) by a different username and WEP key. So when you're connected to the wireless, you're already connected to the internet.
I understand what are you trying to say but how do i do it?

Well, you have to be more helpful with your questions...
First.. you have to make your router to connect automatically to the internet ?
This depends on the router make and model. You obviously will have to follow the setup instruction in the manual of the router model...
I did it, thank you for your help.

ad-hoc connection to my laptop?

I spent 3 hours trying to get this work on my HD2 but it just CANT connect to my laptop. They can find the ad-hoc network but never successfully connected. All i wanna do is to share my ADSL to the HD2.
Somebody help plz?? Thanks in advance!~
It seems HD2 does not choose channels. So it very often happens that the channels it uses for WiFi router are already used by some other, much stronger source (routers). For example I can connect to my HD2 at work .. but not at home, because there is conflict with my home router.

hmmm but i dun have a router here...
BTW, what i am trying to do is to connect my HD2 to my laptop via ad-hoc and share the ADSL connection already plugged in the laptop~
Oh I see .. I thought the other way around.
Will try and report later.
Eh .. could not make it work ..
Hi,
I had the same problem. Try to disable wifi N (search for 11nenable key in the registry and change the value to 1).
it works for me (i had no value in this key)

in activesync there is a setting that allows you to do this very thing, yes it does mean you have the cable connected but hey whats the issue with that !!
it could possibly work the way you want it too but you will have to setup your laptop to be a GATEWAY FOR OTHER DEVICES FIRST !
I supposed you did enable internet connection sharing on your laptop, right? Otherwise you may create a ad-hoc network but you won't connect to Internet with your phone

[Q] wifi Router HD2 (IMPORTANT TO ME)

Hello,
Here is a quick question, Do you know if it is possible, and if yes, how do i oppen ports in the WIFI ROUTER of the HD2 while im on 3G?
Oh, and whats the Router's IP Adress? (to change config.)
i have 2 Computers connected to the HD2's Wifi Router.
thanx i advance, its quite important to me!
As far as I'm aware, there isn't any ports closed/blocked by the Wifi router app.
They are most likely blocked by your network provider, if at all.
I think he's talking of doing port mappings, for incoming connections. Not possible AFAIK.
I am trying to connect 2 computers over the HD2's router with VNC and for that i need free ports, fact is that the connection does not work, and when i tryed on a normal router with oppened ports evetything was fine, firewall is oppen to the software, IP adress matches... i even have a DNS host running... but nothing works over the HD2...
can someone help me here?

My understanding of the wifi router is that it simply starts an ad-hoc wireless network. ad-hoc networks don't have a "router" per say. All the machines simply talk directly with each other unless they have to go out to another network. A vnc connection within the network between the two computers would never talk with the HD2. If you have a firewall problem, it is probably with one or both of the computers you're trying to connect.
Unless you need to connect to the internet at the same time you're using VNC, you should simplify a little and just fire up an ad-hoc wireless network on one of the two computers you wish to connect. Then simply connect the 2nd to that network and you should be ready to go if the firewalls are properly configured on the two computers.
