Passing Desktop internet to PPC via ad hoc connection - Networking

I know that one can create a ad hoc network to share the desktops files and stuff without network computer. So can't i share internet?(off course i can). But i want this internet on my ppc,via wlan. Please help me!!!!
I do not want to use any router, usb, and active sync doesn't works in vista
Using vista home premium,
netgear wlan card
ppc i mat jasjam,a.k.a dopood 838pro.or tytn I.

Netgear Wlan card? What does it do? Is it a WiFi enabled modem/router through which you connect your PC to access the net? If yes, then connect your PPC directly to it!
Else, if netgear is a WLAN card, learn how you can make it act like an hotspot and then connect your PPC.
Get me?
Regards,
Carty..

Solution
I had internet over NIC one,and wireless network to connect my PPC to desktop. Now to pass internet to Wireless NIC just "bridge connection" from control panel-network and sharing centre-manage network connection....Right click on NIC1-add to bridge....right click NiC2-add to bridge
N.I.C-----Network interface card or lan card.If you don't have a switch, router then its a good idea to bridge all your networks so they are interconnected. A true web of networks. Any questions...message me.
One more thing, you cannot use a wireless card(net gear Belkin etc) as a gateway cuz one simple reason that it is not a router its just a connection point. I had a talk with Microsoft regarding this they say they might provide software to do this thing in the next windows. You can Google for software which can force your wifi card(wireless) card to become a gateway(hot spot) but chances of finding stable software are rare.

Using Activesync v 3.7.1 to internet via cable router

Hi there,
Don't know if this is even possible I've read all the articles I could find here and tried Microsoft web pages. If you can help ill most appreciate it.
(Apologies if this has been answered please let me know the link...)
My internet connection (at home) is via NTL cable, My 4 pc's connect to the internet via a Linksys router, each PC has a private IP address along the 192.168.1.x subnet which NAT to the router for internet access - all transparent.
I do not have a proxy server at home, connection is established because each PC uses the router as a gateway for internet access.
My XDA2 refuses to talk to the internet via Activesync. I can confirm that my handheld connectiviy text bubble says that the internet connection is pointing to the PC connection. the paramaters in Active sync passthorugh are set to internet - But it just won't work.
I even tried configuring the proxy option to the routers address no avail.
The XDA wants to keep defaulting back to its GPRS connection.
At the moment I have disabled the phone completely to stop it dialing out whilst I am testing.
I'm out of ideas can anyone help !!!!!!!!
I managed to fix this problem. I set up a personal proxy server from
http://www.youngzsoft.net/ccproxy/ its an excellent proxy only 815k in size and its intelligent enough to understand NAT'd IP addresses etc for connections to routers.
All I had to do was to configure the XDA 2 work profile with the proxy server address then the internet passthrough worked fine.
For Bluetooth access (I use a D-link USB bluetooth adapter). I had a problem getting the XDA 2 to launch the bluetooth connection under the activesync. I used the excellent pocket bluetooth tools
http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?h...t+bluetooth+tools&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8,
after installing this the connection worked straight away with BT internet access as well.
even though i upgraded to the new O2 rom for the xda2, i still had problems until i resorted back to the bluetooth tools, so i have internet via bluetooth gondle to my adsl. But the internet speed on my xda2 is still damm slow, perhaps its limited by the bluetoot connection speed. (my adsl is a 1mb line plus a netgear wgt624 wireless router connecting my laptop to the internet. any idea how i could get a better speed?
also what i like to do is able to access all shared files on the network or on my actual laptop from my xda2. activesync lets me browse from the laptop, but i can use the xda2 to browse the laptops files. any idea how i could do that? the laptop itsself has a 802.11g connection and an assigned ip address, but i guess that has nothhing to do with the bluetooth connection. so has anyone got any suggestions how i could access the files? some detailes guidance would be extremely welcome. thanks.
Hi I am new to this forum, and like the person above am trying to find a way to browse files on my PC through my XDA2 (i-mate).
I am connected via bluetooth to my PC, activesync is working fine this way, as is internet browsing on my XDA2 using my PC's internet connection.
All I wan't to do is be able to sit away from my PC and get files from it to the XDA2 via bluetooth.
Apparently using Resco File Explorer and a wi-fi connection you can set up a network with your PC, but when I try this with Bluetooth it doesn't work - surely bluetooth can offer the same file sharing - just slower???
Please help us if you know a way!

internet access through ad hoc wifi connection?

hi, im not able to connect to the net with my wizard.
i dont have a wireless router so am connecting directly to my laptop, the ad hoc connection i have made works fine for file tranfers, but not for activesync or connecting to the web in either PIE or minimo.
i know activesync isnt possible but surely i should be able to use the broaband from my laptop?
any pointers would be greatly appreciated. software? settings?
its a t-mobile uk vario with qtek test rom.
also anyone know of a remote control utility, i use logmein but would like something a little more menu/macro based for control of media.
cheers
kevo
Try turning on Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on your laptop; that'll make your laptop act a bit more like a router, providing NAT services to the Wizard.
yeah i've tried that, and i've just tried bridging connections (dont really know much about that) but that hasnt worked either.
kevo
My configuration
Me too, I use ADHOC connection for my WLAN.
PC configuration:
ADSL connection shared
Adress IP:192.168.1.1 Mask:255.255.255.0
PocketPC configuration:
Adress IP:192.168.1.55 Mask:255.255.255.0 Gateway:192.168.1.1
DNS:80.10.246.2 for Wanadoo
Your problem is certainly the DNS.
You can put 192.168.1.1 too.
so it is possible? cool!.......but im still having problems.
i cant figure out how to enter these settings, not to sure where to put them,
iv tried puttin the DNS in the -> connections -> vpn
and -> network cards -> networks adapters -> SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter
sorry to be a pain, but could you point me to where to get each address and where to put them?
also is there anything particular you did to set up the adhoc network? i just used the Windows XP wizard and then ticket the AdHoc option after.
my laptop is conected to the router and the router is connected to aol adsl.
the ip address of my laptop is showing as a simple 10.0.0. number on the LAN but "Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.235.147" for the WLAN
none of my setup has a static ip address, could this be causing the problems?
thanks
kevo
It's more hazardous without static adress but it's can work.
My PC has directly access to the Internet with a ADSL modem.
It's here (network cards -> networks adapters -> SDIO WLAN Wireless Adapter )
Apparently, it's ok for your PC and the Ad-Hoc mode.
Maybe, you should have your adress IP WLAN on the same network adress of your router.
I GOT IT WORKING!!!
I started again from scratch.
set a new WLAN. added new setup to the vario, added the DNS etc to the vario.
the problem i was having was the way i was sharing the internet connection, i was trying to shared the internet from the wireless to the lan rather than the internet from the lan to the wireless (if that makes sense to anyone!!!). i also ticked all the connection sharing services to allow them, just need to go through them and see which i dont need now.
thanks for the help guys
kevo
(its showing my transfer rate as 11Mbps, although i think iv done the G tweak and my laptop says its got a G card. what speeds should i be getting?)

Drop it. No way to do it. I've posted here just a few weeks ago, tried everything, with no luck. It simply isn't possible with the latest ActiveSync 4.1, and the older one 3.8 which has the wifi functionality, is not compatible with WM 5.0.
So forget about it. You can connect through wifi, but no synching...
Thank you very much but what is the benefith to connect through wifi?? i cant even send a file or connect to internet!!! At list give me a clue to conect Internet through WiFi & PC. but i think if we do the right Setting for IP in WiFi we would get connected some how....
Connecting through wifi gives you some good things... FOr one, I can stream all my mp3, and movie collection through wifi from PC to my prophet in real time... Yes, even movies work perfectly. So you don't have to keep your mem card full. And you can transfer files to/from PC with little problem.
To set it up, just set up a network on your pc, turn on wifi. Your prophet will discover it, and you can connect to it. Then you need a program like PocketLan, and you can set up a network folder in your prophet which lets you view all the folders you have placed on share on the PC. (so you have to place some folders on share).
I haven't tested sharing an internet connection, but it should not be a problem. I will test tomorrow or tuesday, and let you know.
Cheers.

Resco File Explorer will let you add "share drives" also. You can add directories or drives.
Upss...
It seems that sharing internet connection through wifi is NOT possible with WM5... They have just ruined everything with this stupid upgrade of activesync!
Anyone aware of a work arround so my PC internet connection works on my PPC connected to it with ad-hoc wifi?
as i said i think with IP configuration there might be a way to share it. or i think XDA fellow should program a Stack for this issue on activesyns4.x
Internet over Wi-Fi
you definitely need to do your research better
I have a wi-fi network at home and connect my Prophet to the internet without any problem, and so do thousands of other users.
If you have a wi-fi router, just set it to use the encryption supported by the Prophet. I found that using an authentication of "WPA-PSK" and encryption of TKIP works perfectly.
If you're setting up an ad-hoc network between a pc and the Prophet, you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on the PC with the internet connection and voila'
You do not need activesync over wifi to use internet on the Prophet, just use it as a normal pc on wi-fi network. However what they have not been able to do till now is enable Activesync over Wi-fi for synchronisation.
Perhaps you are right Acer, since I was not able to fully test it with your specs.
I have a company cable network LAN, and a wireless adapter on the laptop which is free. But unfortunatelly, I was not able to set up internet sharing of the LAN, since it goes over a Network Bridge. Anyone now how this could be enabled?
THanks for the info Acer, its helpful...

yes i am using XP home Edition and my laptop is Averatec 3200 series
Just go to properties on your dial up internet sharing and set share this connection. i thinks thats about it. i've not use it for a long time, but if I remember correctly that's about it. you have to share it with your WI-FI adapter of course.
Some WI-Fi card can configure this automacticly. Like several I seen. You can set it as a router, and you're good to go.
BUMP @ acer175 ..where are you dude??!!!
Hi lover. Sorry, I thought Munyuk81's response was enough.
Anyway, on Windows XP, open Network Connections, right-click on your dial-up/ADSL connection, selet Properties.
Open the Advanced tab, you should have an Internet Connection SHaring section. Enable "Allow other users to connect etc, etc...". Select the wireless network adapter if given the option. Click YES if asked to change the IP.
Next create a wi-fi network using the XP utlities or your card's utilities. Don't touch the IP address of the wi-fi card.
Next on your Prophet, enable Wi-Fi and it should discover the network by itself. If you set a key in the step above, it will ask you to enter it.
@acer175
Do you know how i can share my Lan internet which goes over a Network Bridge? WHen I removed the Lan from the Network Bridge, I could see the options for ICS, but there was no internet to share, as the connection was lost. Adding it back to the network bridge restores the internet connection, but removes the option for sharing it with the other (wifi) card...
Anyone?
i haven't tried it myself, but thinking logically, when you add a connection to a bridge, it loses its individual attributes. You have to check the properties of the bridge, and check if there are ICS options there, however I do not think that XP allows that, but you can try.
ALso see if this may be helpful:

thanx acer175.

hey is it possible to use it with bluetooth or wifi which is connected to my desktop ? if i dnt want 2 use it with active sync .. i dont want to use it through wire ..
if the bluetooth stack on the pda support PAN then yes
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=InternetOverBluetoothNetwork
about the wifi option then if there is a wifi router it's easy
otherwise one have to make an adhoc network with the pc
and have that do the routing to it's wired network
How configure ad-hoc wifi network on pocket pc
How configure ad-hoc wifi network on pocket pc for using internet connection on desktop pc?
thanks
dont know of any software which makes pdas act the role as internet router
but boy have many people asked about it maybe it will be made sooner or later so
far only way i know of is bluetooth or usb where the pda dont act as router but as modem for the pc
Connection through destop pc
I have 2 different pda,
wizard and bluangel.
I need to connect the pda to internet through desktop pc.
This is the correct question.
connect to the pc with adhoc wifi network
and have the pc route adhoc wifi traffic to it's internet connection
it's really more of a general pc network thing then a pocketpc thing
as what needs to be don to make it work is the same thing as if the pda was a laptop or another pc
Yes But
Thanks
But I need basically information on this, do you know where I can found it?

It's quite unexpensive and stable. Give it a try, they give you two weeks to make up your mind.
