ad-hoc connection to my laptop? - HD2 General

I spent 3 hours trying to get this work on my HD2 but it just CANT connect to my laptop. They can find the ad-hoc network but never successfully connected. All i wanna do is to share my ADSL to the HD2.
Somebody help plz?? Thanks in advance!~

It seems HD2 does not choose channels. So it very often happens that the channels it uses for WiFi router are already used by some other, much stronger source (routers). For example I can connect to my HD2 at work .. but not at home, because there is conflict with my home router.

hmmm but i dun have a router here...
BTW, what i am trying to do is to connect my HD2 to my laptop via ad-hoc and share the ADSL connection already plugged in the laptop~

Oh I see .. I thought the other way around.
Will try and report later.

Eh .. could not make it work ..

Hi,
I had the same problem. Try to disable wifi N (search for 11nenable key in the registry and change the value to 1).
it works for me (i had no value in this key)

in activesync there is a setting that allows you to do this very thing, yes it does mean you have the cable connected but hey whats the issue with that !!
it could possibly work the way you want it too but you will have to setup your laptop to be a GATEWAY FOR OTHER DEVICES FIRST !

I supposed you did enable internet connection sharing on your laptop, right? Otherwise you may create a ad-hoc network but you won't connect to Internet with your phone

Brodband

When I want to use wifi on my laptop i have to connect it to my router and then connect it to brodband ( maybe it isn't brodband but I don't the word). Can i do that on Jade, i have no problems connecting to router but then i don't no what to do. If you don't no what to do I'll keep stealing internet from my neighbors and you will be guilty because you didn't help them . Sorry for bad english.

If you can connect your laptop to your wireless router , you surely can connect your Jade exactly the same. Just key in the same setting parameters. Why do you have to use your neighbours network.
The problem isn't that i can't connect to my router. When i connect my computer to the wireless router i can't just use internet but i must enter a user name and a password for something. Does anybody now how to do this on Jade.

What's normally done is - let the router do the auto (and continuous) connection to the internet, by setting username and password on the router. Then control the connection to the wireless (security enable) by a different username and WEP key. So when you're connected to the wireless, you're already connected to the internet.
I understand what are you trying to say but how do i do it?

Well, you have to be more helpful with your questions...
First.. you have to make your router to connect automatically to the internet ?
This depends on the router make and model. You obviously will have to follow the setup instruction in the manual of the router model...
I did it, thank you for your help.

How to share internet connection?

Hi all,
I have a question for all you guru of networking.
I have a Modem Router ADSL Netgear DG834GT. I always used it with cable connection and worked fine. Now I moved to a new home that still is not povided by adsl line. Right now I am using my HD2 in tethering with my laptop to connect to internet. I was thinking about the possibility to make my Netgear DG834GT to share my HD2 connection via WiFI. Would it be possible? Can I share my ppc internet connection by using my Netgear DG834GT router. If yes, how to configure router?. I simply have tried to connect my HD2 to the Netgear DG834GT...and even if it connected to the router, the router didn't share internet connection coming from ppc...
THX so much and forgive me if my question is...a wired one.

Well your question is, erhm, very wireless, actually
Anyhow, you should be able to achieve what you want by setting up default route on your NetGear that points to the IP of Wi-Fi interface of your HD2. You may also need to adjust IP routing parameters (e.g. add static routes, enable NAT, etc...) on your HD2, depending on how your services provider configured the APN.
And this is where it becomes a bit complex. There are no tools readily available for WnMo that allow management of IP protocol. You'll need to change a few things in the registry and maybe even write a program to manage static routes on your HD2.

Tethering and Retheting on Windows

I just got a Tattoo.. I think new users have always problem.
Somebody help me for the following:
1. I want to access internet at home on my laptop running Windows 7 by TETHERING with my Tattoo GPRS(EDGE). Is that USB connection and selecting 'Mobile Network Sharing'?? But I am still not able to success.
2. At my work place we have wired network, so I want to access Internet on my Tattoo by USB connection to a PC, just opposite of Tethering, let's say RETHETING. but I could not find anywhere.
Thnx

Thank you everybody. I resolve my 1st problem. Yes, it is just USB connection and selecting 'Mobile Network Sharing'. My problem was because of not able to install the NDIS driver properly. After resolving the driver problem it is working fine.
But I am still looking for my 2nd problem RETHETING

I'm not sure if it will work that way... I know with a Windows Mobile device you can, but never tried under Android. Perhaps there is an option somewhere in the HTC Sync program?
There definitely isn't an option in HTC Sync to do this. In fact, I don't know of any way of generically sharing your internet connection over USB. If your work PC has a Wi-Fi card, you could easily share the internet connection over an ad-hoc network.
Edit: In principle, you could also share your internet connection over Bluetooth but I'm pretty sure the Tattoo doesn't support the necessary Bluetooth profile(s) for such connections.

I think Wi-fi ad-hoc connection is for rooted androids only and I don't found any rooted tattoo till date. I tried another option, using Connectify on my Windows 7 laptop and sharing Wi-fi. But still unable to success browsing, eventhough my phone can be connected with my Laptop through this connectify.
Anybody have success browsing it kindly share.

Uh, what? I'm sharing my internet connection over Wi-Fi with my MacBook right now and my Tattoo can connect to it and access the internet just fine.
Edit: You're probably thinking of android-wifi-tether, which lets you share your phone's 3G/2G mobile connection via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

If you are talking about tethering, it is OK, I am just satisfied with USB tethering, it is working now, but What I am actually looking for is about RETHETING just converse connection of that tethering. (I know there is no word like RETHETING BUT I don't know what is the right term of just converse connection of tethering.) The problem is, I want to share wired Internet at my working place with my HTC tattoo phone as I have limited GPRS subscription to save some money and to enjoy speed of that wired internet.
I thought running Connectify on my Windows 7 laptop connected to that wired Internet as a Wi-fi hotspot then connected by this android phone (Tattoo) is the right solution.
Yes, it is connected pinging is ok but could not access internet from my Tattoo. May be some firewall problem or something I cannot figure out. If some one have solution it is most welcome.

No, I was talking about "retheting"; my MacBook has a wired (ethernet) connection to the internet and is sharing it over Wi-Fi, which my Tattoo can connect to and use.
I did some reading up on Connectify (and was surprised to find that Micro$oft still hasn't quite implemented the feature natively on Windows yet) and it should work. I don't have a Wi-Fi card on my desktop PC so I can't test it myself but perhaps you are having something like a firewall problem.

I have tried with Connectify and also Virtual Router on my Windows 7 but could not success. I think you are lucky to own a macbook. My Windows 7 is RC so it might be because of that or Tattoo may lack something.
Regarding that android-wifi-tether, it reports as rootted device required and could not help my requirement.
I thought you were talking about an usb internet sharing connections...
If you want to do it via wifi, is pretty easy, since ALL windows have the ad-hoc functionality made by default. Problem is that if you use it with your wifi chipset then you won't be able to conect directly to other wifis if it is your main connect unless you buy another wifi card for this purpose...
in windows 7 you can find this functionality under the connection center... in windows xp is a little bit difficult because you have to configure the adapter into the wifi adapter properties in network connections tabs.

I also thought that it should be very easy, and tried all possible means that I know but could not success. One funny thing is, I can get IP address resolved of any URL on my tattoo after wifi connection. It means it can reach DNS server and can resolve IP address but still could not able to browsing. May be some firewall or Antivirus is blocking the browsing on my Windows 7 pc I need to check thoroughly.
If someone have good explanation, it will be very helpful... thanks.
Wifi is working
I was making my laptop complicated by setting 3 static IP networks..as my work place has 3 gateways and I manually change gw when required. I clean it up and set to only one. Now Internet through Wifi of Laptop is OK I am using Connectify on Windows7.
Thx for the patience.
But still waiting for solution on USB "Retheting"

HD2 WLAN connection for Desk over ActiveSync

I'm searching like crazy but can't find a thing.
When I connect my HD2, I get to choose 3 modes. The last is to give free my internet connection the the connected PC. But then I can just choose my 3G connection and not the WLAN.
Is there a way to add WLAN as well? It means I would use my HD2 as a WLAN stick.
thx tomylee
go to startmenu->tools->wifi router
thx, but there i can choose only from cell connection or COM1
Am I right in thinking that you want to connect your phone to a Wireless network, and then use it as a modem for your PC?
If I am then I'm sorry, but this can't (currently) be done.
Best option? Get a Wifi dongle off eBay. They're dirt cheap - I saw one for less than £5!!
OK THX
strange that they block this
This is possible if you use WMWifirouer. http://global.wmwifirouter.com/features/

You cannot use your phone as a wireless adapter (connect it to your PC and pick up a wireless signal)
You can connect your phone to your PC and use the 3G on your phone for a PC Internet connection (i use this on my laptop sometimes when i need proper access to Outlook)(this is 1 reason i don't have an iPhone)
You can set up your phone as a router (other PC/devices find it and use the phones 3G connection)
You can connect your phone to the PC, and get the phone to use your DSL (broadband) connection by default and NOT your phones 3G.

[Q] wifi option

HI i have a isp that requires PPoE protection and i cant connect to the wifi with my phone is there a solution or way or maybe an app or something else that i can do to connect and browse with my phone ???
the type of connecton is not relevant, the wifi is handled thru your router and is separate to your internet connection
what happens when you try connecting your phone to your router?
it doesnt get an ip and then it loses the ruter then finds it again and trys to connect and thats over and over and never stops, same on windows 6.5
my ruter Scientific Atlanta Webstar epc 2434
and for my pc when i want to connect to my ruter i have to use broadband connection that uses a username and paswrod without that i cant connect there either

Yea Yea, i got u d first time man...Here's my ISP's default method of connecting to the internet....Hweva i did away with such processes by purchasing a Modem/Wifi router with OPTIONS to have my "username" & "password" automatically stored, entered & have me logged on...all done by just powering up the wifi router, no help from my pc or any other device....
U get me now?
Looks to me like you have a modem not a wireless router. If so and you have wireless on your PC you can bridge the connections. The info they tell you to setup could also be set inside a router if you had one. If you do have a router you may be in bridge mode also.

Can't say how much seeing as we are in different countries...Try to browse d available options present in your wireless router (download d manual if u've lost d original)...If your router doesn't support such a feature? then u'll have 2 go out n buy one preferably thru ur ISP...So ring them first..

and a Simple LAN or ethernet cable
is it possible? And how?
anyone????????
are you permantly conencted to the internet or is it like a dial up conenction where you have to dial in each time you want to access the net?
Just had a read of your manual. Its a cable modem, and should configure like any other, but (and here's the strange part) the process of supplying a user/pass is normally associated with adsl broadband, not cable.
With an adsl router/modem you would be able to apply the user/pass (and select ppoe) within the router itself, just once when it gets set up, meaning no need for each device to supply anything, they would "just work", but you apparently have a coax cable,,,,, so, ,, ummmmm, , anyone?
You either need a cable router or you'll have to set your PC as a wirelesses hotspots, leave it on. Set your PC to autoconect if possible and bridge both wireless and modem connections. You also might need to ensure dhcp is on on the PC.
Cable modem is no good. Router needs ppoe which is point to point over Ethernet if you go that way. A router will have more than one Ethernet port.

Its strange to me and i must say even with wifi on my pc first i have to connect to my ruter and then to make a broadband pppoe connection and dial it up each time i turn my pc,as for the option to enter the user and pass into my ruter i dont know how to do it i even cannt acces the ruters settings via the ip adress and my ruter has 4 Ethernet ports, and one usb port and wfi?If i cant do anything then there is only left to share my pc's connection,if thats the only option i woud kindly ask a step-by-step tutorial on how to do it,please i jus wana download apps from android market
yea sorry when i said 'its a cable modem', i meant its a cable modem/router, meaning it gets its input through a coax rather than a phone line, which is why its hard to tell you how to fix it.
Either you have some odd dialup cable, or theres something else i'm not seeing. Who's your broadband provider?
edit - oh wait, is THIS it? in which case, you should be able to log into it somehow. Id be stunned to find something like that can't handle a dialup connection itself.
giving the manual a good read would be the best start.
i dont now either but my isp is IPKO its from slovenia
note: im not from slovenia or live there
and wich ruter shoud i by with that remeber user/pass option (the cheapest)
of i forgot thats my ruter
