Download Images In Email? - HD2 General

Hi,
When I receive email's that have images they wont show unless I accept it in every email. Is there a way to make all images show every email without having to click to download them.
Thanks

Sadly, no. One of the most frustrating parts of WM for me. Apparently, it's a security "Feature".

Is it not related to the download size of the email?

Small MMS

Hi,
I've been trying to send pictures but the phone shrinks and compresses them to the point of stupidity. Is there a setting I haven't discovered yet that will change this.
Cheers!

Hello This Problem is Solved on the HTC Windows Mobile Phones...
Can this be somehow moved into the Android to fix the problem..
Please Look at the link. It has the cab files and info required to fix the problem..

Does any one have any thoughts on this? The MMS is pretty much useless we can sort this. Is there a .conf file that I can edit?
What's the use of sending full size images with a res of 2048x1536 to a phone where the display at the very best is 480x320?

So put ur memory card into ur computer, or mount it and take it off
There is obviously a reason to anything, and as someone said, it should be optional to send "as is" or sized down. But transfering big (image) files was never the design goal behind MMS. To declare MMS as "pretty much useless" if you're not allowed to send huge images (some carriers even limit MMS size to 32 kB!) is overreacting IMO. To me, it makes sense to scale down the image to std phone display size. If I want to transfer things untouched, there's always email...

Long story short... it seems that when people on here don't have an answer to the question, they like to dump in their .02.

Thank you Captain Obvious.... If I wanted to send a full size image to my friend whom then wanted to crop it to his or her liking, this does nothing.

...just like I didn't ask for your opinion. - But forgive me for adding mine - I tend to do that, when I see people getting frustrated with things just because of wrong assumptions. Like getting mad because the screw breaks when you try to get it into the hole with a hammer (or in this case why MMS isn't a good idea for file transfer).

nI diissue! I wan't o dnsend MMSs to my G/F who will crop them on her handset. She doesn't have a data plan so POP3/IMAP email isn't gonna cut
As for MMS not being designed for large amounts of data; neither were email or SMS but they evolved to meet the needs of users. Some providers send adverts via MMS so a 100I200KB jpg shouldn't be a problem.
Should it?t. 't mean for this to be a contetious

where I live, downloading an image to the phone costs the same no matter if it's part of an MMS or an email attachment. It's the same # of bytes to dl, and without a data plan every byte comes at a price.

Not to get involved in this lovely debate but the OP:
1) Wants to send a picture to his GF's phone.
2) Once on the phone she can then crop to suit.
3) Since she does not have a data plan MMS is about the only easy way to send the photo directly to the phone.
4) Depending on the phone she may or may not be able to get the picture from her computer but for the sake of argument let's assume not.
So we have a reasonable request and reasoning for why the OP wants to send an uncompressed image. Mail does not cut it and given premise 2 a compressed image is not acceptable.
So can we stop trying to find a work around for the moment and simply try and address the OP's problem? I am as guilty as anyone of justifying a limitation on my beloved G1 but in this case it is not going to help. Maybe one of the third party MMS programs? The furst question in my mind is whether it is the phone compressing the image or the carrier? Any way to know for sure?
T-Mobile (USA) imposes a 300k limit on MMS messages (as seen in many other forums here using WM). It's certainly possible that Google forced the messaging app to conform to that limit....or even to a smaller limit so that other carriers with lower thresholds could still use the same Android build for MMS.
I always send MMS to my wife who is overseas, and I prefer MMS since its instant and my wife doesn't check her email frequently. I know I can email her the images then sms her to notify her about the email but thats just not practical.
so please if you don't have an answer, you don't have to say "I don't know" which might hurt your reputation as an expert on everything except useful solutions.
Just skip the thread.
I'm interested as to whether there are any .conf file etcetera to edit.
It seems to be the phone requiring the compression of the image, which doesn't make much sense, as none of my WM devices have forced this requirement upon me.
Anyone care to join me in a game of 'Hunt the config file'
The images I send are literally the size of my thumbnail btw.
Thanks in advance!
Dave
Why not just email the full sized picture to her phone's email address. Most providers have an email address for each phone number on their system. T-mob is [email protected]. Search google for the address. There, a nice simple solution. Was I really the only one that thought of this?
Well the G1 MMS is capped at about 298kb or 300kb and pictures taken on the G1 in max resolution are easily over that but no worry looks like we'll get a 3MB cap with 1.5 or just send to email

[APP][CAB]OneDialer - Google Voice Internet SMS and Dialer

Features:
*Dials numbers through your Google Voice account and has them ring back to your phone. With this app, your phone will automatically pick up the call once it comes in without your phone ringing.
*Sends and receives SMS messages through your Google Voice account with DATA.
*Integrates with your Windows Mobile contacts, so that you may dial to your contacts that already exist on your phone.
New Features from website download:

This application works on Windows Mobile 6+ Professional with NETCF3.5 and above phones. The regular version should fit all QVGA-VGA phones, and the square version is pretty self explanatory.
Disclaimer: IT USES THE INTERNET TO DIAL AND SEND SMS, SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE A COMPARABLE DATA PLAN OR WIFI, DON'T USE IT.
The most up to date CAB will be on the OneDialer.com website, and you can get updates on Twitter here, and help on the forum here.Thanks.

Fixed and re-posted the new cab.
Nice stuff.
My specs are:
Omnia running 6.5 - WQVGA screen. I know some of these problems might be related to that.
First, I love the fact that you now have that SMS history. It kicks serious ass - I can use my keyboard with xt9 in it no problem or shapewriter - so great work.
However, I do have a problem when it comes to loading my contacts... for some reason nothing shows up. Before I was able to. So, now if I need to send an SMS I have to go into voicemail find the contact and then sms there.
How is the notification system going?
Is there a way to integrate the phone contacts with one touch - or visa versa?
Anyhow, Kudos... great work.
Looking forward to future releases.
Relay address?
I would like to use this with my T-Mobile ToGo prepaid service. However, their data service is restricted to certain sites. There is a workaround but I need the IP address of your relay in order to make the mod on my phone. Oh, and I need to be able to change the URL of the relay to something with tmobile in the URL. Basically what I would do is create a dyndns entry of tmobile.dyndns.org (or something) and then link that to your relay IP address.
Is there a way to change the relay URL in the application and can I get the IP address of your relay? I think it may work.
Thanks

You know what, I actually have a problem similar that I just noticed. It only loads mine up to the P's. Before it was a data source, and now it's enumerated. I'll work on that....don't know what it going on just yet.

The notification system would make this awesome. I thought that you might have been working on one because I think you said that the other thread. Anyhow, it would be great if a notification system could be implemented somehow.
And I guess as far as features go - I know that you were not paying too much attention to aesthetics, but perhaps you could have a button on the dialpad for the SMS history, contact list, or favorites, or something... that way the dialer would just be the main dialer I always use. This all piggy backing on the hopes that you get the contact list to work.
Anyhow, heres to future builds
::cheers::

I was just messing with you. The notification is already there, I just commented out the messagebox that tells you there's a new message. I did that because I'm trying to figure out how to send the event to the phone instead of a message box, because the MB won't pop up if the app is running in the backround.

if you don't put in any numbers and hit either the dial button or the sms button, the former takes you to your contacts(and I think I know what's wrong with it, fixing it now), and the latter takes you to SMS history.

Not a problem anymore. Fixed the contacts and a couple of other things and posted a new cab.
Great progress on this app (and in such a short time!). Finally just got the latest version installed and am playing around with it.
The buttons appear to be too big - I would guess I can see about a quarter of the icon I'm supposed to be able to see for ech of the numbers and the dial and SMS buttons down below.
When I click over to SMS history I get a "could not retrieve messages." error.
Dialing gets me a "web exception" error.
Im gonna keep playing with it though.
whoops. new build. should work now.
fixed the smsmessage history "error parsing message xml" error. new build posted. also fixed a small contacts error.
Is there a way to add an auto update function?
The screen does not fit properly in SE Xperia X1a. Can you make a version for WVGA?

waiting on qvga. would be happy to test.

My O2 question

HI,
On my iphone I had an app for my O2 that allowed to me see how many messages and how much call time I had used, and how much was remaining. Is there something similar for the HD2?

This would be something that O2 would need to develop as it would be accessing secure servers on their part to look at your account.
For this reason you may be better of directing the question to them, on their forums.
As far as I'm aware not a single operator has this kind of application on WM (feel free to prove me wrong).

Not an application as such, but Orange do offer this as part of their 'Orange World' website, where you can access your account details including usage and call data. Not always as up to date as it might be though!

Sorry I forgot that this is true, in fact i beleive all operators have similar websites where you can check your balance. However as for a seperate application (as specified) i don't think you'll find it.
I would hypothesize that it would be because of security implications and the fact that anyone can install anything on their WM phone making it very suseptable to attacks.
I agree The Orange World thing is linked to the SIM card I think, because putting my SIM in another device still allowed me to access my account details though the OW link that gets created automatically in PIE.

Ok, I didn't realise that. I'm guessing that accessing my online banking from my HD2 is not a good idea then?
It should be OK as long as it's still using https to connect. There have been a few questions about browsers like Opera, Skyfire etc that use intermediate servers to deliver your content, and whether they pose any security threat, but they've not been answered with any great conviction.
In general terms however, the WM platform is currently not susceptible to trojans and malware that can log your keystrokes so is inherently safer than mainstream PCs

Thanks, is that a free service?
It is free however it's only updated once a day so if you had 50 text's left at the beginning of the day you can't try keep track through the day you'll just have to keep an eye on it yourself till the next day. Not sure what time it's updated but guess around midnight so it can log all of your sent messages that day.

I don't know if you're going to find this anywhere to be honest, as most people would see this as a reduction in functionality and usefulness vs. threaded messages.

Yeah, thats what I thought, I might look into writing a program for it.
Why? Threaded sms makes sense. I can't believe it took 10 years for phone companies to start it. Why it wasn't like this from the start ill never know, but it was my biggest gripe with any dumb phone.

Wifi Texting?

Are there any apps for the HD2 where you can text over wifi?
I think your best option would be to download AIM for Windows Mobile (it's in the marketplace and it's free) or a IM client that supports AIM. Then go to aim.com to create an account, launch the AIM or IM client program, sign in, add your friend's/family's number (including area code), and talk away! Be sure to tell them who you are since the text message that they will be receive will show your screen name (unless you use your name as your screen name). Hope this helps

AIM let's you send SMS over wifi for free. When the other person receives the text, it will just say "Sent from AIM (Screen name)". Although one problem that comes to mind would be teh fact that the other person won't be able to send him a SMS unless he is logged in? Or it might show up later when he signs in. But it would definitely not notify him automatically that he has an incoming message unless he is logged in.

Yeah, I was just googling my question, and I came up with a website that told me to set a mail2web account and use microsoft's direct push to send SMS through wifi.
I feel your pain, I assume you want SMS via Wi-Fi due to no coverage where you are.
unfortunately its not possible in the traditional sense as SMS are transmitted via the network, not the internet. So for an SMS to be delivered (and sent) you need to be connected to your carriers network.
If the HD2 were UMA compliant we wouldn't have any issues, since its not the chances this will ever work are slim/none. Sorry
Use palringo for mobile, it's great!

With my provider (T-Mobile USA), I can send SMS from the web. I have to log into My.T-Mobile.com (faq here) which I can do with my phone from any wifi access point. So it's basically accessing the internet on the phone via wifi to send a SMS. On the phone I can make a link to this page which means one click to send a SMS from the web. I can also access this same feature from any computer.
Check with your cell provider and see if they offer something similar.
