hey guys
I have a Leo and an iphone, so I put the same pdf file on both, its size is about 17 mb with loads of pics and charts etc.
I was so surprised how viewing the pdf file is on the leo comapred to the iphone which so smooth and fluent. The Leo's viweing was a pain everytime i move the page around it has I have to wait about 3-5 seconds till it shows the text. WHAT A PAIN MAN. While the iphone viweing was so smooth that I was really asking myself does the leo really have a 1 GHZ processor.
I tried to copy the same from my leo storage card to internal memory and still gave the same result. I tried to install acrobat 2 and still the same result.
ANy advice guys to this and how to solve it
work perfect and super smooth on my hd2!
@hykhleif
Can you post the PDF file somewhere so we can check other phones? There may be an issue with yours, or our beloved HD2s may just be crap at handling big PDF files.
Also, did you have many apps running at the time? Obviously memory could be an issue here.
HD2 has LOTS of software bugs and performance issues. I am just hoping HTC release a super duper fix that solves all the issues. And I hope they hurry because I am yet to decide if I will go back to my iPhone or keep the HD2
hey guys
I can give you the link from where I download this book
http://gigapedia.com/items:links?id=399006
if the link does not work go to www.gigapedia.org, go to the pharmaceutical section
the book is called fast track pharmaceutics
its a big pdf file
I had no ther programs running, I closed everyting with task manager before I opened the pdf. The issue I have how poorly it is viewed on the hd2 compared to how smooth it was on the iphone
try foxit reader for viewing pdf's... cant test the pdf you have linked cos im not a member of gigapedia.
I just tried it in Adobe Reader LE 2.5, and it's pretty poor. I'm impressed with how fast it opens, and the fact that pinch-to-zoom works, but it's pretty poor other than that.
You're right about the slow rendering. It's not very good.
at least we don't need third party tools (like the iphone does) to open PDF files. The thing I hated most about the iphone was getting my PDF files onto it in the first place!
Just plug and play with the Leo - bang it on a storage card, it works, connect it to your PC and transfer - bang it works. You have to use third party utils to transfer to the iphone aswell (usually via wifi!) - hence why I was sooo glad to see my iphone replaced by my Leo - rendering speed being the least of my issues...
guys but I am so surprised that the iphone viewing that pdf is so smooth compared to the leo. The rendering is so so so slow and annoying that I can't read it through the leo.
Any suggestions other than using foxit reader????

maybe try Chainfires video driver update for leo. Im not sure if it will make a difference for the built in Adobe reader though.
Worth a try at least!
i tried opening the file with foxit and still slow rendering. What a strange thing it is that a 1 GHZ cpu still has problems in loading and viewing a pdf file
But this seems smooth.

I'm reading PDF files all the time, really big ones, and have no problems at all. Works perfectly, and easier than on the iPhone because here I have a file explorer and more options.
I think it's just the way the Leo renders the screen, you get the same thing in internet explorer. With an iphone it's as if you are just moving a window over the page and the two are totally disconnected, with the Leo it's like it's only showing you a bit of the page, and if you want to move it has to redraw the bit you want to see.
I wonder sometimes if I should go back to the iphone....but....dunno

it's better, but not that great either. very bloated and crashes often. is fast though.
i personally like Ansyr Primer, which is no longer sold. a little slow in rendering, but doesn't crash as often as the adobe and less memory hungry. you can also add annotations and bookmarks. it doesn't do tagged files like the adobe reader, which is one good things going for it.
I don't know why there is so little development in producing good pdf readers.
in any case, using pdfs a lot, i keep them all, and find them useful for different types of documents.
with Primer, you have to apply a vga aware patch, from something like tweaks 2k2, if you have a vga machine. I bought my copy a while ago. if nobody is selling it, i've checked and noted other sources do have it.
PocketXPDF

I find it the best one.
Renders pages in real VGA.

just for the record - the adobe ppc pdf reader sux.
it lasted 2 hours on my rig.
trying sourceforge jobbie now . . .
Try `foxit' pdf reader which has just released for ppc ,the evaluation purpose .( just reminds it and there no limit of days as i have neen using it for so many number of days) the best or the worst part is that it runs from itself , installs no files on windows folder . it is one single file(1.25 mb) transferred via active sync to the storage card then add to today screen via pocket plus and then through resco explre make it the default program to view pdf files

Use this one all the time.
Putting into full screen landscape allows half of a full page to be easily readable.
Only down side is the delay in waiting for the next page to load - hopefully this will be fixed in a later version
Matt
Hey matt.
you're only bloody right!
this is a good reader guys.
nice rendering, i think a little better than clearvue and certainly the pile of elephant turd that is the adobe reader - that was just embarrassing!

Please please please someone help
thanks
Steve
Ask and you will receive my brother!
Many Many thanks
Many Many thanks
You are a life saver !
Steve
it takes bloody ages to load initially and the page load times is fairly crap but full screen and programmable h/ware buttons makes it kewl.
as i said before the rendering is pretty wicked too!
WOW!!!! Just installed PocketXPDF and it has got to be the best PPC PDF reader available. Rendering the pages does take a while but at least it is worth the wait.
Thanks for sharing that with us.
Adobe?
I tried my pdf book which has 2700 pages in my JASJAR with Adobe reader,it nicely tagged it for viewing in "reflow mode" (text wraps around to fit the screen) so that we need not scroll it horizontally even after zooming.
Wow! how nicely Adobe did it and I could read the book continously in reflow mode with zoom.I think NO Other pdf reader can do this.Even 'Repligo',I tried same book with Repligo pdf mobilizer, still no reflowing.
Adobe reader is the Best pdf reader without any doubt, but it has its own drawbacks like: Very bulky, freezes ur PPC if not used for sometime(after opening). No official compatibility for WM5 devices.
If the size of the file is small, any reader would do.But bigger files, reflow mode Adobe is jus Gr8!
Acrobat reader has been working great for me for the past two years.
it just depends on the following question:
- do you use a realVGA 'hack'?
if yes:
use acrobat reader
if no:
use pocketXPDF reader
because you really want VGA instead of qVGA. and reflow is a really big plus for acrobat imo

I believe non of the mentioned readers can do the followings completely
a) must have scrolling feature (available in Adobe Reader)
b) text and picture must be sharp (apply to all readers except Adobe)
c) small in size (definitely not for Adobe Reader)
Any?
Hi all..
I've been checking lately the awesome products from Picsel Technologies. I'm sure many of you have tried Picsel Browser which can be found here on the board, but I was really impressed mostly from the other products - Picsel ProViewer, and most of all Picsel PDF Viewer.
This latest PDF viewer is simply an astonishing program. It's so cool to navigate between pages, very easy one handed view of large A4 pages, and it loads big sized PDF files very fast.
Of course the products aren't perfect, but the main problem i'm facing on my HTC Trinity is the very slow loading times of all the programs. It takes simply too much time to load these programs.
I read on the net that there is a little program for the Palm devices called Picsel Accelerator which should fix this major drawback. it can be found here:
http://palmpowerups.com/modules.php?...download&cid=2
The question is: Is there any program similar to that one for the WM5 platform?? It would increase the usability of these excellent products a lot.
Or maybe a member here has some tips for improving loading times??
New version 0.8.5 of skyfire is released now.. you don't need any registration to download this.. Just go to get.skyfire.com from your PC or from your device. It's very cool browser with support to youtube and other flash objects.. I am attaching a downloaded copy here for quick download.. Enjoy
Someone has already posted it on this forum......
Sorry! tried searching but couldn't locate initially, now got it.. How can I get this post deleted..

It doesn't seem to wrap text correctly for me, so it's harder to read things. But if you need quick, desktop-quality browsing, it is better than Opera Mobile.

by the full desktop quality browsing you are correct, but i disagree with the quick browsing. Sure it displays the page faster than opera but the navigation is terrible. Just like using a gps application (googlemaps for example) you dont really have entire the page loaded, just the part you are seeing on your screen, it constantly renders as you scroll and pan making it terrible to quickly pan and scroll through websites expecially forums where you read, pan, read, pan and so on. the constant rendering and reloading makes the page blurry and displays those god awful checkers by not being able to keep up thust slowing you down way more than the slightly slower page loading of opera. At least when opera is done with the page you can read everything in it quickly and easily
Im not bashing skyfire cuz i love it also but that is the main gripe i have with it, that and the unreliable downloads that fail on me 99% of the time

You are true.. It won't load the full webpage and it's realy slow when you scroll and pan.. But only advantage we have is it plays youtube videos and flash. Which is lacking in opera mobile.. But in this version there is no audio.. Some problem.. Looking for a solution..
Downloaded. Will find install it in a little bit.
Does it work Wvga?

this is the main problem I have with it and netfront also. the truth is when it comes to browsing even IE mobile 6 has the upper hand, it might be slower at rendering the page but trust me I have found it's CSS engine better than even opera. I can give the links if anyone wants to check. however, opera has the upper hand when it comes to browsing the page. and opera does support flash videos on certain builds.
this is how I break it down in no order:
aesthetics: opera9
page load speed: skyfire
scroll/pan: opera9
rendering engine quality: IE mobile 6
rendering engine speed: opera9/skyfire
download file reliability: IE mobile 6
flash: skyfire
ease of use: opera9
javascript: IE mobile 6/opera9
therefore opera is the best pick for default browser and everyday use. IE mobile 6 comes in second for quality and reliability. skyfire only has flash and page load speed going for it (1st of which isn't a need, thus they only have speed), netfront couldn't even make it on there.
Ya skyfires really nice for streaming videos but thats about it.
My favorite day to day browser is hands down Opera Mini 4.2. For just basic browsing and skimming forums,etc,etc... its just plain awesome and by far the fastest one iv used
Hi, all
Is a HD2 owner could tell how fast it launch a heavy pdf file of about 5 Mo with several page and pictures ?
just a second to load one 15M file. It's super quick. But, there is no good PDF reader available for capacitive screen. Tried build pdf reader and foxit reader. no good.
Actually the inbuilt acrobat reader is very fast and also takes advantage of myltitouch for zoom in and out. I can say that I am very happy with it!

I disagree. I'm using foxit and it does a great job of reflowing everything I've thrown at it so far. Don't know what you've been trying to read with it!
And Foxit opens documents that the Adobe installed version just hangs on.
Sure, the interface could be slightly nicer, but in terms of capabilities, Foxit is the first time I've managed to read a couple of thousand pages of PDFs on WM (first installed it on the Touch HD).
what is the problem of acrobat mobile?
It is superfast and have pinch & zoom
I use it with some pdf's of 15 20mb with lot of pictures and I dont have any problem

not sure, but i've tried 2 ebook pdf's that were 3-4MB with the HD2's copy of acrobat LE and neither of them seem to ever finish loading. it's weird.
foxit has been very reliable for me and glides along very smoothly on the HD2. doesn't have pinch and zoom, but honestly, i think i'm too uncoordinated with 2 fingers. i struggle with chopsticks as well.

The other good thing about foxit is it reflows documents that haven't been authored for reflowing. Very impressive capability.
downloaded yesterdays paper Metro ( www.metro.se) via Opera, opened extremely quick, and could scroll/zoom with pich to zoom and very happy doing so
How about this??

Same here. Adobe Reader LE works perfectly. Fast and smooth, no problems at all.
A tip: you can disable the toolbar in fullscreen mode via the registry.
i have the same problem, pdf file of pc mag takes for ever for the next page to load, could it be the pdf itself?

Hello,
Runs on HTC HD2 Reading Plan
In the registry or other, is it possible to change?
1. Press X = reduce do not close.
2. View pages in continuous
3. The default zoom when you touch the screen
Thank you for your help
Foxit should be installed by default instead Adobe reader. It's great.
Opera came as the default on the HTC Pure so I have been using that ever since.
Right now I am on Aman's TESS LEO IV and for some reason decided to surf the web using Internet Explorer.
Wow! That is what I can say. The page formats correctly, the rendering while scrolling is nice and clean without any blank spaces.
And it renders Flash too!
Do I miss the mutliple tabs? Not really.
Good Job Microsoft....they have been improving PIE without making a splash
It really is getting better, especially on the newest WM builds. I'm not convinced enough to move from using Opera but it is certainly adequate as a back-up browser. I hope they continue to make progress with it as it would be nice to see it perfected.
