Hehe, you seem to have quite a sum of money to waste.
I ordered my X1 and I am still arguing with my self if that was wise of me.
Buying 2 X1s a Touch HD and an Omnia is a definite way to make my bank account miserable. I envy you because obviously you "pee" money.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see the "panels" software in other HTC devices.
I asked for help in getting the Panels onto the Touch Hd... but got zilch from anyone.
So.. i'm battling on.. so far..i have got it to work.. from clean hard reset.. copy files/reg keys/tweaks/installs in.. and bingo.. running with panel view.. all jiggling around.. you can select one.. but At the moment.. once you select it.. thats your lot.. i cannot access the panel changer again....but i will just battle on..
As for the content of my pee, it's not full of money.. but lashing out nearly 2k on 4 phones.. all sim free.. is nutty.. so
more money than sense!
Why would we hate you?
WTF is the point in 4 phones?
Panels are crap slow and don't look that nice, why would you want them on a touch HD?

nah, we'll only hate u if u don't post more pictures of the phones.
"Why would we hate you?"
my bet is the good old green deamon called jealousy
Well I suppose that ure not going to use all of them ureself (?)
I mean two of the same phone? What good would that do you?
Anyway it'd be cool if u'd get the panels running on your other phones, maby that would make more people develop panels. I think they are pretty good. Atm Ive got tf3d as a panel which I can change for any other panel instantly, a choice htc owners cant enyoy ... yet

I am using 2 for me.. but as i said in another post.. I bought 2 x1's... one for me.. one for her indoors...
then she liked the Omnia.. so.. that was that.. and then the HD came out.. so i felt cheeky,
I will be using 2 of them.. and the wife the third... so.. one gets dropped.
Anyways...
I got the panels kinda working...
It's only a proof of concept.. and after a reboot.. i cannot access them.. something freaky going on....
It shows it working. and quicker than the X1... just slightly.. but quicker.. All panels have been tried.. and work.. fish.. google... sony.. live (new panel from SE...)

If you feel like spreading the wealth, I'll take one and pay for shipping. I can't get one based on the WAF.
I shifted from the HTC Diamond to A Nokia E71 mainly because of the Battery life, which of the devices (xpreia and HD)has a better shelf life and do they last a whole day when used heavily ,I am always connected to push e mail and messenger. Thanks
So, I got the vibrant, and overall I like it because its much more responsive than both my G1 and MyTouch, but kind of have the following thoughts.
1. I feel having an LED has to be a big mistake/oversight. I cant imagine the LED would have much added cost for samsung nor be very big/require much space. Yet would have a GREAT improvment on the user experience. I hate not being able to glance at my phone and see what happened. Plus, it's alot less battery than having to turn on the screen. There are some hacks - forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725458 - being done to compensate, but none are 'great' solutions, although clever.
2. Battery life - for an AMOLED screen, I'm surprised my battery drains as fast as it does. It lasts me 3/4 of a day more or less. I do have a few things installed, and do use the feed widgt for facebook etc, and have gmail and work email synced. I think it still doesnt last as long as it should. I'm considering removing the facebook widget and adjusting sync times to get more battery back, but still feels lacking.
P.S. : Isnt there some sort of App that can help me identify which apps are using the most battery/CPU time?
3. Calendar Notification - This is something I cant understand. I have worke mail synced to my phone, as well as my calendar for it synced. I get long vibrations and sound (if my phone isnt on vibrate), but there is no way I can find to adjust the notification to be less annoying. I know other users have noticed the same issue
4. Bloatware - I dont mind the fact that they install alot of apps on the phone that other users may find interesting, but I really feel they should make it easier to remove them. I shouldnt have to go through extra effort to get the bloatware removed.
5. Camera App - its a nice app, but I dont like how after taking a picture it does not switch back to camera... you have to hit the back button.
6. Power on button - You already have to do a slide to unlock... why on earth is the power button so small and obtrusive? I feel this is a bit quircky.
7. Proximity sensor - I dont know about you guys, but it took me a while to figure out why, when I am on the phone, the screen kept lighting up on and off. I *think* I figured out that the proximity sensor right next to the ear piece detects if your head is near the phone, and if it is away from it, it will light up the phone. I find this rather annoying, maybe I hold the phone awkwardly, but several times it has lit up while talking and I've accidentally muted etc.
So ya, </rant>
Overall, the phone is nice and a well needed improvement over my previous phone, but I feel there were just a few simple things that samsung could of done to make it a solid release.
What do others think?

I'm glad you felt the need to be a complete jerk in your response. Very smooth and professional.
FYI the rant was partially so others (who may want to get the phone) know what issues and downsides I've personally experienced, and partially to see if anyone has any suggestions on ways to imrpove/fix some of my issues.
If you have nothing smart to say next time, it may be best to just keep it to yourself.

this posting was worth it allow for this fine joke of yours...nice one do you do stand up?
@temperbad - the reason people on this forum will harass you about your post is mainly this:
xda-developers is just that - a DEVELOPERS forum. Most people who want to complain about devices go to forums for those devices that address general discussion. This forum caters to people who "mod" their devices. While many new-comers do come to this forum and are welcomed - it is appreciated if they stay on topics related to app modification/generation, themeing, developing and modifying ROMS and such.
So, while many do get on here and post about other crap - it is only tolerated by those that seriously want to use these forums for the intended purposes.
Your rant about this device will most likely only be heard by those who own the device out of necessity or desire - AND, by people who are already committed to owning the device. THEY DON'T CARE about hearing someone complain about a device they are already committed to!
So, in the future please make these kinds of posts on forums on which people discuss more general topics or cater to the device "generally" instead of on a forum that is dedicated to DEVELOPMENT and MODIFICATION.
I am not attempting to be harsh - however, hopefully, others will read this and will not post topics that are not related to this forum.
MOST OF THE REALLY GREAT DEVELOPERS ARE RAN OFF from Development forums because of all the off topic comments. We hope that one day this will stop.... But, I am beginning to feel like all hope is lost...
@shaneaus - yes, I understand that, but I did post in the GENERAL section. Also, I understand this is a developer forum. I'm a developer myself and have trolled the forums for a few years, and there are some development solutions to the problems I mentioned (like notifications) etc...
Thanks for the thoughtful response though.
Every phone has it's shortcomings
Return it or whine about it
At this point I would suggest you move on
wait for the froyo update and some of your issues may be resolved.

Are you people serious? You don't know how a Proximity sensor works on these phones? "Bloatware" as if T-Mobile hid it from you and has SO much of it on this phone? "Photo review, a feature that YOU CAN TURN OFF IN THE CAMERA SETTINGS?!" "PS isn't there an app that will tell me what is using the most battery" - Wow. Just wow. And you call this a "rant"? Maybe you should consult the owners manual before creating threads like this.
You knew or should've known that there is no LED Notification light on this phone. If you're trying to tell me that the battery life is worse on this phone than the G1 you're doing something seriously wrong.

That's just a defective phone, and your second one is also defective. It happens... it could happen with the Evo too.
Whether I'd say someone should switch depends on what you like and dislike about both phones. Why did you buy an Epic in the first place? Have those reasons suddenly changed? Is uploading faster than 150kbps right now more important than any of the reasons why you bought the phone to begin with?
If you've decided you like the Evo better, then switch. I wouldn't switch because of a relatively minor GPS issue with an easy workaround, and I personally wouldn't switch because of this upload cap (I have yet to have it cause me a problem), although if you're a heavy uploader, then maybe... then again, it's probably going to get fixed at some point and then you might feel pretty dumb.
I bought an Epic because of the keyboard, so unless the phone was basically non-functional, there's no way I'd want to switch to an Evo. If you like the Evo better, though, then go for it. I just don't know why someone would buy an Epic in the first place if they really wanted an Evo, though.
Switching to the EVO would be even more depressing than the problems the Epic is experiencing. I mean the processor on the EVO is soooo outdated.
I'm sticking with the Epic.
lol i remember when evos snapdragon was all the rage haha
but yeah upload speeds fluctuating signal where my hero didnt have that problem yes battery life
i chose the epic because of the keyboard and its the only thing keeping me from exchanging

You have this too? I just posted a Q about this - no luck fixing it yet?
now while the snapdragon may not be as fast as the hummingbird, its no slowpoke either. My nexus NEVER slowed down unless an app froze it. Other than that it flew. The main bottleneck in the snapdragon chipset is the freakin sucky adreno gpu.

I'm sure it's happening to almost everybody. Sometimes a mail squeeks by, most of the time it doesn't. Otherwise, when I enter one of my many inboxes, it shouldn't start checking for mail... LAME.

The snapdragon might have been "all the rage" back in january when it was put in the nexus one... but when it was still being used when the EVO rolled, I was a little upset. Yeah, I'm mainly talking about the GPU. The hummingbird isn't that much faster than the snapdragon sans GPU... but it is a LITTLE bit. Considering iPhones have always had some sort of GPU in them, I figured android would too. It's nice that the anroid manufacturers are finally catching on.
The Epic has video codecs as well. Combined with the GPU, high definition videos are a breeze to watch without having to convert This is a Godsend for me.

I agree that Swype is wayyyy better than just typing in a touch keyboard and I'm so happy that it came with (I couldn't deal with my bf's touch keyboard so I knew I needed a physical one) but there are just some things that are better with a keyboard.
Does anyone use it? Because I was just wondering if other people found that it skips letters sometimes? Gets a little annoying when I'm typing a longer e-mail of sorts. When I had a Rant, I remember having to almost break it in before all of the keys were at the same sensitivity. (Namely just the Y key...I almost returned it, got lazy, and it just got better on its own...used to have to stop and smash it in to get it to work.) Anyone else have minor keyboard issues?
Personally I have no problems with the hardware keyboard and missing letters. I use the hardware keyboard for anything over a sentence or so. But yeah no problems for me. Maybe I just got lucky

I use it all the time, and never had it skip letters unless it was my fault for not hitting them properly. I love the keyboard but it's still not perfect for me; the letters are maybe a little too far apart, so I sometimes hit in between two letters. Can't really fault the phone for that, though; at least not the build.
It does seem like the space bar actually has two buttons under it (like it's a double length key, so it gets two standard key buttons), and I seem to hit it twice sometimes if I roll my thumb a little bit when I press it. But other than that, I have no problems with the functionality of the keyboard, I just need to get used to the key spacing. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze, which had all the letters jammed up right next to each other.

I mainly chose this phone over the Evo for it's lack of Sense UI. I've had the HTC Hero before it was even released to the public, and an Evo is just an oversized, super fast version of that... No thanks.
I like AOSP style text, e-mail, and speed. Gotta thank Darch for that one.
the keyboards the main reason lol
but i use launcherpro plus on my epic as i hate you cant remove icons from the dock in touchwiz did the same when i had the hero even with sense still on it was noticably faster same on evo if i had it..........but i am eagerly awaiting 2.2 and roms and such
and yes the lack of mms on wifi annoying very as the hero could

As for the hinge - in the HTC shop there was a Desire Z to show for customers and when I was playing with the hinge I was little bit afraid ... it was just too free. Fortunatly when I unboxed by device the hinge was pretty good. The build quality looks very good for me. However I am afraid that hinges will get overused by time and i will have to take it for warranty repair. This is just my opinion and may not happend. Summary: first expresions was afraidness but after now I am satisfied with it.
I come from TP2 where the keyboard is definitly better. On Desire Z its little bit smaller and there are function keys on the sides - I mean on TP2 I had 'p' and 'q' at the side of the keyboard ... here is 'tab' and 'backspace' on the side... but this is just matter of habit.
As for the hinge - when you turn the device upside down - it opens by gravity. This was afaik already discussed about G2. It is not issue i guess ... and actually i dont find it annoying at all.
As you could probably see on youtube videos the frame of the phone is metal and the back cover of batery is metal. The rest is plastic - very same as on the classic desire.

Actually they are super fast... I have installed only like 10 apps so menu is not full of apps but the device is incredibly responsible. This is probably due to new generation of procesor used in the opposite of the old on in Desire (even Z is 800mhz and classic Desire is 1ghz). What supprised me was that I held today even HTC Desire HD and i had feeling that Z is smoother... but who know what was with that HD

I dont know anything about dolby SRS ... if you could tell me how to try it I would.
I've just plugged in my KOSS Porta Pro and the quallity sounds well... Or lets say its not catastrophic Depends how much audiofil are you I still think that it depends more on headphones you listen. Atm I am playing pink floyd high hopes and I hear there all details i know so I guess the quality of playback is ok. In the comparison with qualite repro I feel here how my porta are overbassed. I will investigate equalizer in new days

Check the NAM version thread:
Bell has released the NAM version D-Z today too
I wanted to ask you about the hinge, again: if you don't slide out the keyboard (so the keyboard is "closed") and you turn the phone upside-down, will the keyboard still open by itself? In the videos posted above I can see what is happening when the keyboard is already open, but I wonder if it happens the same when the keyboard is "closed".
I fear the keyboard would open by itself in my pocket and I could break it, if I wear some loose clothes. Also, flipping the phone to mute the ringtone seems silly if the keyboard is opening like that.
I wouldnt be afraid to have it in my pocket. Yes it opens itself but only by some little force - for example gravity. Actually to let it open by the gravity you have to hold it by the bottom side of the phone and not holding the second one. Since they are rather thin its not so easy. I am used to hold my phone by way it doesnt close when i type.

Thanks for the answer! Maybe it looks worse than it is. I hope to find it in the stores in one or two weeks, and I'll try it myself.
If you find more interesting stuff about it (good or bad), please post. When you have some time, maybe you could upload some pictures and video from the camera.

I just got a Bell one and the hinge is a little slippery but (as mentioned) it only slides on mine if I hold it upside-down by the base, or at a bizzare side-ways angle that's un-natural.
Be prepared for the slide though, as you will have it if you get the phone. Great phone though.
the desire z has LED Notification??
i think the desire may have led notification unlike the t-mobile g2... if you watch the video you can see the red blinking LED due to low battery. can anyone else confirm this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ0iH_hHchg
Don't know about notifications, but my g2 has the same led notification when it is done charging or charging. My g2 has never had less than half the battery remaining, so no clue on that. I hope the g2 lits up that led when a missed call/text pops up, that would be a sweet upgrade.
yes, there is LED diod undead the speaker grid. It is blinking not only when battery is low but also when you recharge (red for recharging/green for fully recharged) or when you have missed call. It doesnt blink for email i think ... i will notice today hopefuly.
Is the emmc/ nand locked down like in tmo g2?
Ie no perma-root/ custom roms?
I have a tmo g2 which I could gladly sell/ trade for the desire z provided the dz could be perma rooted...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Hello fellow XDA people!
I know some guys are going to bust my ass for this, but i'll take the risk!
I know this is a double post but you can't let this thread Die because eventually everyone will expierence this problem!! Just hear me out and I already apologize for double posting!
XDA member ducklas1, posted a thread on hardkeys and by the extensive use of it while using android.. see (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841559)
I've been downloading Android roms since day 1, and my hardkeys started to be worn out.. Initially i thought it was a factory manufactoring issue so I sent my HD2 to the service center and they fixed it...
Now that i have my HD2 back for 2 months I'm starting to expierence the same thing.. By using android we are using the hardkeys a lot more then we do with WM6! And believe me everyone will eventually expierience the same issues as i spoke with numerous people here on XDA and friends of mine..
I'm not as smart as a lot of you people out there so i can't make an adjustment on android so i wont use our hardkeys that much..
So please DEVS (your are all my heroes) can you guys look into this?? The link i posted above from ducklas1's thread has an idea which looks awesome! Maybe that's an idea to do??
Maybe there's an app i dont know about which solves our issues.. (and there are a lot of people expierencing this)
Don't let this thread die (like ducklas1's) ! We all needs this! And your hardkeys will die as well!!
Thank you for your time..
MOD EDIT:: @OP - PLEASE EDIT THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD TO SOMETHING LESS MISLEADING AND MORE SUITABLE. THIS IS NOT AN ANDROID SPECIFIC ISSUE. IT ENCOMPASSES BOTH WM AND ANDROID AND IT IS NOT A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. PLEASE UPDATE THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD ACCORDINGLY.
MOD EDIT2:: TITLE CHANGED SINCE OP REFUSED TO RESPOND.

when they die, grab a new phone
i use android since july on my HD2...till now hardkeys works great..!no problem at all..!dont know why that happened to you...!probably you had a manufacturer mistaken phone
I know three people who have HD2 and two of them have this problem after one year using.
maybe its just the way you use it
Maybe you have giant hands and killed the buttons...

which hard key/keys are going bad for them?
the only time i use the hard keys is to wake the phone up, but i would be doing the same in WM too so i don't see how's it's a big deal
It's a phone, you buy it to use it, and button are there to use them.
If you want to save your buttons (screen, cpu, etc), put HD2 under the glass, buy some cheap nokia and use it instead.
(I love my hard buttons, it's much better then soft button on EVO/Desire HD)
i don't have some problems ...
killer!
you button murderer!!!!
Sounds like an individual issue
The first HD2 i had my keys "died" in about a month. I couldn't press them, they would get stuck and sometimes i would press one key and it would activate another. T-Mobile exchanged my HD2 for a new one and, for 8 months now they have been perfect with using Android since it was first released.
So, i would say warranty your phone again or practice tearing it apart and replacing the keys ever-so-often.
This is actually quite ordinary. Hardware keys are only good for a certain number of presses which is dependent on the amount of pressure you put on them. Sooner or later, all hardware keys wear out. Some phones may have better quality keys. Now, considering the fact that buttons are a crucial part of android, the phone needs better buttons if it's going to survive more than 1-2 years.
Touch screens however have a much longer life. I assume this must be the case with capacitive buttons too.
Edit: An edit just to say why I think android is more dependent on hard keys. Of course, it seems so obvious, but it's funny how some people can't understand it.
Most android apps don't have any kind of menu bar at the bottom. So to bring up the menus you have to hit the HD2's windows button. There's also no soft X, so you have to press back and home buttons a lot more than in winmo. These 3 buttons wear out more quickly when you're using android.
The truth is that keys on hd2, and every other phone/device for that matter, do die, some easiers thatn others. My power off/screen lock key died in the first two months of having it when there was no android on the horizon yet. Still works but feels like it stays in all the time, not causing any problems though. Another truth is that as much as I love my hd2 iI'm already thinking of replacing in with either a Hd2 t-mobile(1gb ram) or desire hd. The first is a cheaper choice the latter being the new kid on the block. Sorry for rumbling but the point is that devices have an expiration date, change is usually good so don't overthink it, just buy another phone.

You have a rather sick mentality,
next time post something useful and relevant to the topic, or keep your trap shut ...
the Issue raised about the HD2's buttons wearing out is a valid one, but If I am not mistaken, someone else has already created a thread to discuss this matter.
regards.

The problem is excessive use of the Hard buttons can wear them out ...
mines o.k so far,

This is the most insane concept ever. To say that one uses the hard keys in Android more than in WM6 is base-less. It makes no sense. In fact I would venture to say I use the hard keys LESS in Android than in WM6 because most of the apps in Android have been thought out and perfected. I also use Launcher Pro and have my most used apps available to me at the mere touch of a screen.
This is NOT an Android issue. Period. Morons.
Someone close this nonsense thread.
