problem trying to update phone. - HD2 General

I am new to all this so please go easy on me
I have tried several times to update the Rom on my phone and I keep getting the message The update utility cannot be used for your pda phone. Please check your update utility.
What does this mean and how do I check it.
Many thanks

[Q] OTA is not taking Sprint EVO

I used unrEVOked3 to root my phone. I didn't use the permanent one. but now the OTA update to 3.29.651 isn't taking.
Can someone walk me thru this, please.
You need to do some searching before posting, there are a TON of threads with the solution to this.
I will keep looking then... I may not be using the right tags to search this one... it seems like most of the ones that i see are for a different phone. but thanks anyway metalhead.
Just flash a new updated rom via rom manager.
Just manually flash the update and reroot. OTA works dor some and not for others.
You need to do some searching. Unrevoked even tells you how to update.

[Q] android supplement update - keep downing but always fail

Hi,
I have try to flash different 2.2.1 rom to my mytouch. I have tried almost everyone from this forum. One common problem, when I go to setting - about phone - system update, they are keep trying to download android supplement update. But they always fail and redownload the 50m something file again.
Does anybody know how to disable OTA? Or let it successful install?
Is ROM Manager Recovery interferences with official OTA?
thanks
my guess, if you are not flashing an official update, the supplement wont implement on the rom properly... what are you trying to get out of the update? The rom in my signature runs really well... very smooth and fast if you want to give it a shot...
Thread moved to General Q&A for your Question.

Well, but I cannot stop the phone downloading the update. It keeps download again and again.
And do you have an idea how to flash back to official, in case I need it? I did not found anywhere have really original rom. Most of them are modified.
I know how to get back to 1.5, its how you unroot... then just download the updates... here is the link to the unroot thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641179 and actually it looks like it will take you to the 2.2.1 OTA version if you follow the directions... it was listed on the first page of the forum, so wasnt too hard to find...

[Q] ? remove 2.26.60 installation file

After 3 failed attempts to install 2.26.60 on my rooted Droid Pro, and considering the various problems others are having after having successfully installed it, I no longer wish to do so. But, the installation dialog automatically reappears every 12 hours with options to install now or install later. I'd like to delete the installation file, but have not been able to find it with Root Explorer. Has anyone been able to delete it and/or know the path to the file? Thanks, JM
Same thing here, it is very annoying, specially when I have already tried several times without success...
Do you guys think that those who were unable to update their phones will never make it? Maybe Motorola/Verizon will clear the restriction for the next update?
Are you trying to remove the installation file so you dont have to update to 2.26.60 or are you trying to remove the already updated phone's install file?

I have not updated and do not wish to. The installation file produces a nag prompt to either install now, or 12 hours later. There is no option to never install, nor to delete the prompt (such as "do not show again"). I don't care if the update file remains on the machine, I just want to stop the nagging, and I do not intend to update to anything until a major version change (2.3, 2.4, etc) comes along.
Thanks, JMM
If oyu have the bugless beast rom running on your phone peter alfonso has a stopota.zip but with a basic android software, i really dont think you can. im going to check it out for ya, hopefilly ill have an answer in a couple of hours!
Alrighty this is what I found. The file that nags you about the OTA updates is a software file that also runs many more manditory components. So without a custom ROM on your android, (currently the only custom rom is Droid Pro FISSION, with a Beta RC1), is is impossible to avoid the OTA update notification. Sorry bro, thats android for you!

OK, many thanks for trying. It might be worth installing the custom rom just to get rid of it.... not sure.
the custom rom is still in beta, i would wait a bit until a full release comes out. just precautionary. if you could toatlly give me a thumbs up under my post that would be great! thank you!

Why not just flash the SBF, install the update, root with Z4 then continue on with your life.

After pondering this a bit, I wonder if you would be willing to try to get a couple more answers for me -
1) what is the file - name and pathway?
2) what are the "mandatory" components it also runs?
3) In Titanium Backup Pro apps/files list there is "Updater 2.2". What would happen if I froze that with Titanium Pro?
If you can come up with answers great, if not many thanks anyway - JM

Two reasons - 1) I do not want the update, it has caused problems for others that I don't need, and, 2) I cannot flash the sbf because I only have access to PowerPC Macintosh. No windows real or virtual. I've tried to find out if a sbf flash can be done by Mac unix(Darwin) command line from Terminal with bash shell, but no one has responded. Consequently I don't want to update and find out there's a problem because I can't revert. JM
Let me look into those questions.

4.1.52 to more current version

I am trying to get my phone to update with no luck. I spent about an hour on the phone with Motorola trying to see if they could just push updates to my phone and apparently this is not an option. They say it shows my phone is up to date.
I currently am on 2.2.1 system version 4.1.52 which is not supported on their website to do any kind of updates. I am using a Mac and Motorola has mac compatible stuff on their website. Can anyone please direct me to something as simple as what is on Motorolas website? I would like to get 2.3.
when I go into my phone and check for updates, it says I am already up to date. Has anyone else had this issue? I have searched on here and 2-3 other forums and cannot find a solution to my problem. Motorola said I could send them my phone and they could update it, but I am trying to avoid having to do that.
PS: I am not familiar with this stuff so if you could dumb down your responses I would greatly appreciate it
thats because 4.1.52 isnt an OFFICIAL ota man..
you have to downgrade your device to 1.26 ota to > 1.57 ota to > 1.83 ota to> 4.5.91 Gingerbread.
well that makes sense. It would have been nice if Motorola could have told me that.
Is there an easy way to get 1.26 on my phone with a macbook?
Not that I know of. I could be wrong. But using RSD on a windows PC is super easy to downgrade your device.
I dug around for you, and may be able to help...The previous poster is right, you can't be on 4.1.52 in order to receive updates. You need to flash an official OTA first. On mac, use this guide...I don't have a mac, never used this guide, can't guarantee it...but just read the thread a little bit to know all you need to know
You can go here to select the SBF of your choosing I suppose... or, in the Development Section, maybe read about the Pudding thread, and see if you want to unlock your bootloader or not.
Lemme know if you have any more specific questions...Like I said, I haven't been in your situation and don't know every detail, but I could help you get in the right direction.

cool thank you! I read through that stuff and dont feel comfortable doing it. I gave my atrix to a co-worker. He is going to flash it to 4.1.26 and then hopefully update to gingerbread after that.
I appreciate the help guys

Haha no worries. Are you sure this is a trustworthy co worker?
But yeah, I understand not feeling comfortable...if you read through it all and make sure you know what COULD go wrong, it's all easier than you think. Just for future reference

[Q] Acer_A500_0.000.00_1.104.02_COM_GEN1 Download Mirror

I am trying to restore my A500 to stock so it will go back to getting the OTA updates. I actually tried downloading one of the "complete" 3.1 updates, but it will not flash over my current 3.1 firmware (which was the one that was leaked a while ago) but it fails. My firmware version for that leaked file seems old compared to what is current and it wont get the OTA update... so thought I would try to go back to stock.
I found a link for the stock update.zip on these forums, but the acer cdn keeps saying access denied when I try to download it. Does anyone have Acer_A500_0.000.00_1.104.02_COM_GEN1 for download or know of a mirror?
+1, my tablet is freaking going bananas right now and I need a solution like asap!?
+1 again.
I'm also waiting for this and cannot find it online or on these forums.
Of Course this is the one i need to and its no where to be found on the internet someone important please help or upload your recovery PLEASE!
Seems a lot of people need this..
Why is this update so difficult/impossible to find?
I have added multiple ROMs to my device and the most recent made the mistake of not doing enough research. All it will do is vibrate at power up and I need the stock recovery to fix.
so far the only help I could give is
check my signature you should find some good files...
someone get back to stock from my files...
maybe I will do a tutorial... but I am lazy... so try to search my post in the weboard, I posted somewhere already.
