After 3 failed attempts to install 2.26.60 on my rooted Droid Pro, and considering the various problems others are having after having successfully installed it, I no longer wish to do so. But, the installation dialog automatically reappears every 12 hours with options to install now or install later. I'd like to delete the installation file, but have not been able to find it with Root Explorer. Has anyone been able to delete it and/or know the path to the file? Thanks, JM
Same thing here, it is very annoying, specially when I have already tried several times without success...
Do you guys think that those who were unable to update their phones will never make it? Maybe Motorola/Verizon will clear the restriction for the next update?
Are you trying to remove the installation file so you dont have to update to 2.26.60 or are you trying to remove the already updated phone's install file?

I have not updated and do not wish to. The installation file produces a nag prompt to either install now, or 12 hours later. There is no option to never install, nor to delete the prompt (such as "do not show again"). I don't care if the update file remains on the machine, I just want to stop the nagging, and I do not intend to update to anything until a major version change (2.3, 2.4, etc) comes along.
Thanks, JMM
If oyu have the bugless beast rom running on your phone peter alfonso has a stopota.zip but with a basic android software, i really dont think you can. im going to check it out for ya, hopefilly ill have an answer in a couple of hours!
Alrighty this is what I found. The file that nags you about the OTA updates is a software file that also runs many more manditory components. So without a custom ROM on your android, (currently the only custom rom is Droid Pro FISSION, with a Beta RC1), is is impossible to avoid the OTA update notification. Sorry bro, thats android for you!

the custom rom is still in beta, i would wait a bit until a full release comes out. just precautionary. if you could toatlly give me a thumbs up under my post that would be great! thank you!

Why not just flash the SBF, install the update, root with Z4 then continue on with your life.

After pondering this a bit, I wonder if you would be willing to try to get a couple more answers for me -
1) what is the file - name and pathway?
2) what are the "mandatory" components it also runs?
3) In Titanium Backup Pro apps/files list there is "Updater 2.2". What would happen if I froze that with Titanium Pro?
If you can come up with answers great, if not many thanks anyway - JM

Two reasons - 1) I do not want the update, it has caused problems for others that I don't need, and, 2) I cannot flash the sbf because I only have access to PowerPC Macintosh. No windows real or virtual. I've tried to find out if a sbf flash can be done by Mac unix(Darwin) command line from Terminal with bash shell, but no one has responded. Consequently I don't want to update and find out there's a problem because I can't revert. JM

I hope that once we have this rooted, we will be able to flash the Desire ROM. I'm sick at my stomach knowing that we are missing the wonderful News (RSS) widget and even a few others.
The desire is not a CDMA phone.
Make more sense to just port the app you want and much more realistic.
sure. if someone can port a widget.
Could you modify the ROM to work with the Qualcomm CDMA processor?
If you root it you won't be able to get the FROYO 2.2 upgrade. Can't be installed on rooted phones.

If we had root, and if we could write to /system/, then we could push the widget to the phone and be done with it. It should not require a whole ROM port to accomplish. We already have the file (com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk), however we cannot install/push it to the phone.

A rooted phone might be locked out from an *official* update to 2.2, but the community would have that sorted out in a matter of hours once there was an official update to build off of. Anyways, until we do get root, that discussion is pretty much moot.
Thank you! Can't wait.

If there's an apk floating around, why couldn't it just be installed?
Also, rooted phones can run 2.2, I have no idea where you're getting that from.

Because you cannot install some .apk without permission to write to /system/app/ which we do not have. Want to try? It's attached. You will get "Application not installed" and if you try to adb push it, well, where are you going to put it? You cannot write to /system/app/ and you cannot write to /data/app/, so if you know another way...

Of course they can run it. First of all, it was another poster who said they could not -- and they didn't even really say they couldn't 'run' it, just said unambiguously that they couldn't install it -- which in hindsight was probably referring to the same manual update engadget discusses, linked below. Second, my suggestion that the upgrade *might* not be *officially* supported on a rooted phone was just a logical possibility in my mind when I said it, but may have actually turned out to be the case:

Hi,
I have try to flash different 2.2.1 rom to my mytouch. I have tried almost everyone from this forum. One common problem, when I go to setting - about phone - system update, they are keep trying to download android supplement update. But they always fail and redownload the 50m something file again.
Does anybody know how to disable OTA? Or let it successful install?
Is ROM Manager Recovery interferences with official OTA?
thanks
my guess, if you are not flashing an official update, the supplement wont implement on the rom properly... what are you trying to get out of the update? The rom in my signature runs really well... very smooth and fast if you want to give it a shot...

Well, but I cannot stop the phone downloading the update. It keeps download again and again.
And do you have an idea how to flash back to official, in case I need it? I did not found anywhere have really original rom. Most of them are modified.
I know how to get back to 1.5, its how you unroot... then just download the updates... here is the link to the unroot thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641179 and actually it looks like it will take you to the 2.2.1 OTA version if you follow the directions... it was listed on the first page of the forum, so wasnt too hard to find...

If google talk does not find a network connection before you unlock your screen, it crashes. This has been the case sense Gtalk with video came about. As long as the network/radios are running before you unlock, there won't be a crash.

Tonight i received a notification that there is an update available OTA for my A500.
Version announced is 7.014.01
Where's the update file supposed to be downloaded to?
I tried to apply it, but there was an error somehow. In the middle of the update process a red triangle popped up. How can I examine the update file better?
Are you rooted? My experience is that most devices will notify you of an update just by version checking, but will fail if rooted because the files the upgrade expects to have in place have changed due to rooting. So you have to either go back to stock, lose root or wait for someone to create a new rooted ROM with this update intragrated.

For sure.
Or, it's possible all of that updates have been implemented with some of custom ROMs, like the new Market version, e.g..
I pulled the patch and decrypted it. I pulled the update.zip file now I'm trying to see what I need to do to it to make it flashible through CWM.

If you have a custom rom installed you cannot flash an official update. Also if you have a custom recovery installed it will also fail as official updates can only be flashed via stock recovery. This official zip file would need to be deodexed etc then compiled by a chef to be flashed via cwm.

I think so it works like stock recovery but with more options , it is the update script that tells where everything needs to be.
But make sure you remove recovery from update and that you add su(superuser) in bin or xbin with the proper permissions for root or you will lose it.

Not sure, but they came back-to-back from what I heard from non-rooted users. Got the first one, and then immidietly got the next one when it booted back up.
To me, that says, first update had some minor bug that they found, or remembered, and then fixed, but since some had already updated to .01, they had to just re-patch that one...?
Maybe you could logcat where the first one comes from, and get the second one from the server? I dunno, I'm not a dev, I know just enough to get myself in trouble...

Hello,
I'm sorry, I don't find this thread. I really searched.
I'm in the same case than asder00.
My Transformer is rooted, B50, European, and actually 9.2.1.11 official build.
The only way to update HoneyComb -> ICS was to use the version posted by MrNago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514658<br />
Today, I tried to update to 9.2.1.17 build. I received this update, but when my tablet reboot to install it, a triangle appears at approximately 30%. Exactly the same thing than when I wanted to install ICS.
I tried to install official ROM stock ICS of Asus with CWM recovery. Doesn't work (Status 7). No error about the version. I took WW build.
Same with ROM Revolution HD.
But retried with MrNago ROM, It works.
I don't know what to do to recover working updates.
PS : I think to know about which thread you speak.
I have read it. I don't think our problem to asder00 and me (and many others) should be over there. In my case, this impossible installation didn't appear after ICS.
And, those who posted our problem didn't have solution.
PPS : Sorry for my poor english. I'm not a moron. English is not a language I use every day.
Go to this thread and download and flash the file .
Note When you have CWM you cant ota.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551652
Yeah, that's what I've done.
This micro update has worked with this file.
That's right, CWM is installed.
It was not when I tried to upgrade to ICS.
And if this is really source of our problem, I don't know how to remove that.
I have seen a method which match with what I've alreay done (reboot in recovery, install ROM stock... /!\ doesn't worked).
I believe I'm condemned to upgrade with files found over the web.

What did you do to fix this problem (with stock recovery and stock rom)?
I'm having the same issue, red exclamation mark. I never rooted my device.
1. Root
2. Install CWM
3. Flash update through CWM
it's really not that hard.
OK, that's a way. But keep in mind there are customers without knowlegde of rooting and stuff... what about them? The update should work, right?

Then you talk to Asus about it, not here.
Here is a place where people come to find information and learn how to do things.
If you just want a magic one click fix, call Asus.
I was also in a similar situation as you. I went back to stock rom and stock recovery and noticed I wasn't getting the OTA update to 9.2.1.17. Guess what?
I rooted my TF with a root kit found on this website. It literally rooted my TF with a click of a button. It was so easy.
I then installed CWM with an app posted on this website. It was just an APP. All I had to do was run the app and it installed CWM. So frigin easy
Finally, I manually flashed the update through CWM, which was made possible because some nice dude on this website posted a CWM flashable zip for the 9.2.1.17 update.
This entire procedure took less than 30 minutes.

You're totally right about that. I'm just curious what the problem might be. Would be interesting to know.
I'm now going to use the CWM method you suggested.
Same thing.
I would like to know if someone knows why few peoples have this problem, and many others not.
Why, since ICS is came, auto updates doesn't work.
There are solutions, of course. Sometimes we can search 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, more. For some people, it's easier than for others.
And what we all are sure, if we call Asus, they don't tell us how to resolve that. They will tell us to send the tablet to them. It's not what we want.
So, if messages like that irritate you, I think you should drink a herb tea.
Or close your eyes, take a full breath, and read another thread.
Because there will be always messages like that.
I don't tell that to provoke you. I would like that you understand that when people have problems, they go where they think to find the best solutions.
