4.1.52 to more current version - Atrix 4G General

I am trying to get my phone to update with no luck. I spent about an hour on the phone with Motorola trying to see if they could just push updates to my phone and apparently this is not an option. They say it shows my phone is up to date.
I currently am on 2.2.1 system version 4.1.52 which is not supported on their website to do any kind of updates. I am using a Mac and Motorola has mac compatible stuff on their website. Can anyone please direct me to something as simple as what is on Motorolas website? I would like to get 2.3.
when I go into my phone and check for updates, it says I am already up to date. Has anyone else had this issue? I have searched on here and 2-3 other forums and cannot find a solution to my problem. Motorola said I could send them my phone and they could update it, but I am trying to avoid having to do that.
PS: I am not familiar with this stuff so if you could dumb down your responses I would greatly appreciate it

thats because 4.1.52 isnt an OFFICIAL ota man..
you have to downgrade your device to 1.26 ota to > 1.57 ota to > 1.83 ota to> 4.5.91 Gingerbread.

well that makes sense. It would have been nice if Motorola could have told me that.
Is there an easy way to get 1.26 on my phone with a macbook?

Not that I know of. I could be wrong. But using RSD on a windows PC is super easy to downgrade your device.

I dug around for you, and may be able to help...The previous poster is right, you can't be on 4.1.52 in order to receive updates. You need to flash an official OTA first. On mac, use this guide...I don't have a mac, never used this guide, can't guarantee it...but just read the thread a little bit to know all you need to know
You can go here to select the SBF of your choosing I suppose... or, in the Development Section, maybe read about the Pudding thread, and see if you want to unlock your bootloader or not.
Lemme know if you have any more specific questions...Like I said, I haven't been in your situation and don't know every detail, but I could help you get in the right direction.

cool thank you! I read through that stuff and dont feel comfortable doing it. I gave my atrix to a co-worker. He is going to flash it to 4.1.26 and then hopefully update to gingerbread after that.
I appreciate the help guys

But yeah, I understand not feeling comfortable...if you read through it all and make sure you know what COULD go wrong, it's all easier than you think. Just for future reference

[Q] Still no 1.8.3 OTA for me, not even when I use the comp connect method, hbu?

This whole "rolling out" method is torturous now that we have a place online to communicate with people in other areas -_-
In any case, is anyone else still in my boat? I see so many people talking about 1.8.3 it seems like everyone else has already been gifted it aside from me
Also how much luck have people been having with the 1.8.3 sbf that was posted in the forums? I keep seeing threads about using that update "at your own risk" which to me, someone new to the android community, is pretty much as good as telling me "you'd probably eff this up pretty bad!" haha

Just use the 1.83 SBF out here and nothing bad will happen to your phone. It will update it to your 2.2.2 android and it will solve tons of issues also.

So I've heard, but at the same time I've seen tons of threads where people who were not included in the beta were advised to either reflash 1.5.7 or use the computer connect method to check for the update and magically it seemed to work for them.
Whether it's still in beta or not, people in some areas seem to still be able to access it while others cannot : /
I have yet to see the update as well. I'm on att down in galveston tx right now. When you apply tis newest update does you have to root your phone again? Im rooted on greyblur 2.0 right now and I would like to keep it that's way.

You do need to re-root but I have heard Gingerbreak works very well, and also some people have had success with the retainroot method which is what I used for 1.5.7

You may want to take your own advice because you clearly haven't read what was in this thread.
As was originally mentioned by JayRolla, we have established already that the update does appear to still be in beta, nullifying the need for you to make any sort of comment whatsoever.
Furthermore I responded to JayRolla's comment by acknowledging that even though it may be true, I still have seen many people on these forums who were NOT in the beta that have received OTA updates, and have had success updating by using the computer connect update method.
Might want to put the time into reading a thread before you bash on others incorrectly for not doing so. Though I do have to hand it to you, the irony of this all gave me a good laugh! (b^.^)b
Flash the sbf that was just leaked and you will have the update.

I am absolutely in your boat. I am not opposed to using the leaked sbf but my concern is that since it is beta, moto or at&t may make some changes for the better to the final version and I would have to downgrade to the stock 1.5.7 to use the "official" upgrade.
I am in your boat.
I could not get the OTA update, so I downloaded the motorola updater, which also said my phone was up to date. I flashed back to stock and tred both methods again after updating to 1.5.7, and still no update.
Then get this... I downloaded the SBF for 1.8.3 and used RSDLite to install it. This did work but of course I lost root. For "ha has" i checked for OTA updates and it sayd I was up to date, then I used the Motorola Updater again, and the Updater said I wasn't up to date. I was confused but I let it update. After a reboot, I found that the Motorola Updater "updated" me back to 1.5.7. Wtf??
I ended up finding the update.zip file for the OTA update to 1.8.3. I flashed back to stock, rooted with GladRoot. Ran the OTA update to 1.5.7, ran the afterupdate.bat file to retain root in 1.5.7. Then I used the Android recovery to install the OTA air update to 1.8.3 that I had downloaded and put on the root of my internal storage. This worked and after a reboot I was at 1.8.3. I ran GladRoot's afterupdate.bat again and was able to regain root again.
I'd post you a lin to the update.zip folder, but the moderators on these forums have asked us several times not to do so. You can find it fairly easily over google though.
DK
Thanks DK, I will definitely look into that, though I also see what charlyee was saying, it would be annoying to go to the trouble of reflashing several times if the finalized OTA update comes out in the next day or so...
I'll just have to see how long my patience will hold out
I got the 1.83 sbf from here. I was on 1.52, I flashed to 1.57, checked to see if I was still rooted (I wasn't) then flashed to 1.83 and then used Gingerbreak to re-root and GladEnable to re-sideload. worked like a champ.
Correction: I got the sbf from a link here before the moderators reminded us about posting links to beta software and the NDA.

[Q] GB .573 Leak to Liberty GB question

I'm sure that I could piece together an answer for this question by sorting through several related questions... but I didn't find anything to exactly answer ALL of my queries. It would help to have plain answers so I don't screw this up... I'd like to get it done in one swift attempt.
I've been running the rooted .573 leak since the moment it came out. I have had no issues with it at all. It runs quickly (albeit a little hot) and I can't recall any crashes, other than browser app issues... but now that the DX2 is out and Gingerbread has hit the OG DX masses , I've lost interest in the new Blur appearance. I'd like to switch to Liberty GB and experience the customized way of life for a bit. I know that I need to download that donate toolbox app, but I've got some questions before I do that.
1) Do I need to SBF back to Froyo first or can I start from .573?
2) How much of the loading process does the app handle? Do I really have to do much at all? Some threads make it sound easy as pie.
3) Does Netflix work on Liberty GB?
Thanks for the help folks... I apologize if this info can be found elsewhere. As I said, I really did make an attempt to search around first.
I have the exact same situation, and was hoping to not have to sbf back to froyo in order to get gb liberty

SBF'ing is easier than flashing a rom, I don't understand why people are scared of it. You can pm me if you want a link to specific instructions for that.
To my knowledge, netflix does work.
The app should pretty much do everything for you

Thanks for the info... but I should've clarified in my original post - I am in no way "scared" of SBF'ing. I've done it in the past and had absolutely no issues with it. The reason I asked whether or not it was necessary before loading this particular custom ROM is because I don't have access to my personal laptop at the moment. I'm stuck on company computers without admin rights until later next week. I was hoping to toy around with Liberty GB in my free time because I knew that I could get the ROM from the Android Market. If it is absolutely necessary to SBF back to stock Froyo, then I'll wait until I'm back with my home computer. If not, I'd like to get started. Again, thanks for the information!

Thanks for the tip. Because I'm on the .573 leak, my Baseband version isn't up-to-date. I can't take the easy method and just update right over the leak... Looks like I'll have to SBF back to Froyo no matter what I do. Guess I'll have to wait... Oh well.

simple yes or no please?

I realize I could probably find the answer to this question by digging around but just really quickly can someone tell me... if I have rooted my atrix and am running on ginngerblur... am I able to just download the update and install it with no consequences(besides losing root which sux ass)... because I am seeing all this RSD lite and soft bricking stuff which I am not familiar with at all.. so with a simple yes or no can someone please tell me if it is safe to just download the update thank you.. VERY much in advance...
yes it is safe to update, but it can/will be unsafe if in the future you try to downgrade. This is just the way the new update works is you go for the official update you will lose the ability to downgrade. If that does not bother you then go for it.
I think gingerblur adds mods for the hdmi mirror and webtop with out a dock. So I dont think it will update. It will probably fail to install. Could be wrong though because new update include webtop etc...

I think I read that the over the air method won't work..
Yes, if you have a PC just go this link and follow intructions... Only downfall after update to the GB is YOU WILL NOT ABLE to DOWNGRADE by any MOTO standard (RSD/MSU) but if you unlock the bootloader you can do what ever you want go back and foward....
"http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/motosupport/source/SoftwareUpdateSummary.asp?country=USA&language=ENS&web_page_name=SUPPORT&strCarrierId=ATT&strPhone=Motorola%20ATRIX%28TM%29%204G&strCable=Micro%20USB%20Data%20Cable&strURL=https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download5/SoftwareUpdateforATTATRIX4Gversion.4.5.91.pdf"
You need a clean 4.1.83 to ensure being trouble free with the OTA.
ANY mods can cause the upgrade to fail. Motorola has said this over and over.
As stated above, I would do the hard wire update. I created a thread with a link here"

[Q] Root for US OTA 2.0

So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is no solution to root a TP that's already applied the 2.0 update?
I've tried the root methods already obtainable on here and they don't work. I'm guessing (more hoping) that someone is working on finding a solution.
Makes me sad. A co-worker updated it for me because "it said it needed to update it so I did it for you"... *sigh*
OTA2 removed the exploit unless you were already rooted and used Voodoo Rootkeeper to maintain root during the update. I haven't heard the outcome with regards to 2.5. I don't want to risk root so won't be updating unless it's safe.
2.5 is out ? which your version of tablet ?
16gb us. Was delivered last week.
Yeah, I didn't have it rooted before so yeah.
Either people like us find a way to downgrade or wait until a new exploit is found. The former seems easier but my knowledge of these things isn't very high...
Yeah, I'm not sure how to either. I'm good at following directions but when a "friend" upgrades your device for you...
As for downgrading, I don't think that'll be an option until someone finds a Lenovo rom flash utility.

2. 5 was not available to US last week. How did you get it? Supposedly it's still going through certification. 0086_US is 2.0. What version are you?
Oh hell.... I've been reading too many posts on the Lenovo forums. My apologies, I am running OTA 2.0 NOT 2.5. I will correct my first post and title.
I'm running ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_US.
Okay. Thanks. No worries, but was scratching my head, looking puzzled.
Haha! I can understand. I have that look a lot sadly. I appreciate you telling me as I had no clue as to what exactly I was saying.
Now, if anyone knows someone on the inside at Lenovo that could get the flash utility...
LOL If only.
And now we wait. Did NOT expect CM9 to come out so fast and be working so didn't care much for root otherwise. Oh well, that was my fault and I knew I'd lose root for the time being. Now I wait patiently, since the primary work of the developers now is making CM9 to work properly so w/e.
Why isn't there a way to downgrade the rom to 075? The tab has a recovery boot. If it could be downgraded, it could then be rooted , then updated.
No way to downgrade, unless you know something the rest of us are unaware of. There's a bunch of folks that either can't root at all, or took OTA2 before getting root/without preserving root. We've been told that there's nothing to be done for the time being.
I don't know how to do it, but I know that's how other tabs got around the problem. I only say it in case someone does.
AFAIK, the problem is the recovery's signature check.. if it recognizes that the update.zip to flash is older than the build actually installed, it won't install the new ROM.
Thanks. Noob enough that I couldn't explain it, just knew it doesn't work.

I wonder what it takes to defeat the check? There must be an update script that performs that check. Editing elements of the update script has been the key to other "can't be done" situations.

I'm going to keep putting forth suggestions instead of claiming something can't be done. Afterall, the point of this entire forum is to work togther to overcome obstacles.
While I don't know a lot about these things, if it could be done, it would have been. This forum is overflowing with posts from owners of all kinds devices asking how to downgrade their respective device so they can take root. It's not an uncommon request, and one that I have researched for another device, only to find the same answer. Hey if you find out how to do it, you'll make a fortune.
Two other tablets, the Flyer and the View downgrade to gingerbread, then unlock bootloader, then root, then update to honeycomb, then custom roms are applied. They got the idea from another tab, the Iconia, who got it from the Transformer . . .
I'm just trying to push good and bad ideas to someone with the skills. It's about not taking 'no' as an answer.
Here's the thread for Flyer/View:

Half the links for various files and instructions don't even work anymore. What will it take to get someone to get me what i want!?!?!?
Please don't give me a link and say "go here" or "try this", because i've clicked on 100's of those type links and the instructions either do not make sense to my pee size brain or are incomplete or inaccurate.

I can help you but you do know that ICS isnt very stable yet and if ur not good with this kind of stuff shouldnt do it yet. But the ICS/JB without HW acceleration and working video recording and webtop work good. But if you still want to do it let me know ill help and let me know which ROM you want
@OP - OK for starters let's check to see if your bootloader is unlocked.
Turn off your phone and power it back up. Does it say "unlocked" in the top left hand corner? If so it's unlocked. It could still be technically unlocked without saying unlocked, but you would have had to flash a fruitcake to cover it up, and you probably would have known if you flashed a fruitcake already.
If you do feel brave, there are videos on YouTube showing how to unlock the bootloader (if you still need to) and also how to install CM7.
Unless you have the patience in dealing with bugs, IMHO you are better off "right now" using CM7 over ICS.
Just my opinion and best of luck...

My phone does not say unlocked when booting... but I thought SuperUser or ROM manager or Titanium told me I was unlocked at one point? I'm sooo far lost I don't really care. I just want to get where I can flash ROMs with CWM as easily as it appears to be.
I'd like to learn enough to be able to revert back to GB in the event the upgrade isn't for me. Or hopefully someone would help me go back if needed. Maybe I'm just believing what I see on the internet but I was interested in the recently "leaked" version of ICS...? Are you laughing at me write now? Whatever would be the most stable and/or have the most functionality is probably what i want. Well we can get leaked ICS on your phone but its battery life isnt great and some other bugs. Also when did you get your phone is it AT&T phone bought in US? Because newer Atrix cant be unlocked And it might brick our phone and you wont be able to do anything about it.
The question Stands above:
Do u need the camcorder?
Do u use a webtop?
When u answere one of these questions with yes, u should use a Stock based Rom or cm7; else i would prefer pinters jb.

Yeah before you start anywhere, we need your build number.
Settings > About Phone > Build Number
The steps to unlock your phone will be based of that.
Actually just list all the settings in your phone. It'll be easier.

Bought the phone in 2/25/11 (per mint.com history). System: 4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android: 2.3.6
Baseband: N_01.77.37P
Webtop: WT-1.2.0-110-OLY-6
Kernal: 2.6.32.9
Build: 4.5.141
I'm not overly concerned about video recording, i don't use webtop. Again, I was hoping if i didn't like ICS/JB I could try the CM7 or whatever else I wanted? No?
Was it something I said...?
The steps in the thread below worked BEAUTIFULLY for me. Just check whether you've got a 32 or 64-bit version of Windows so you can download the correct drivers for RSDLite. Once you get the bootloader unlocked and a proper recovery partition on there, it's all downhill. Two weeks ago, I was a complete n00b and now I can flash ROMs onto my Atrix in my sleep. For the first time last night, I even flashed a ROM without connecting to my computer, but rather just by downloading the newest AOKP package from GooManager, copying it to the SD Card, then doing a dirty install via Recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
There's also an awesome YouTube video showing how to flash MIUI onto your Atrix, but you can use it for any ROM you like.
(Caution: Like everyone else here, I assume no responsibility if something screws up and your expensive phone turns into a paperweight. As my Atrix is roughly the same vintage as yours, I seriously do not believe that will happen, but everything here is of course at your own risk.)
Hey sorry I passed out in box me a way to contact u and we'll talk

Once you get the bootloader unlocked and a proper recovery partition on there, it's all downhill. Two weeks ago, I was a complete n00b and now I can flash ROMs onto my Atrix in my sleep. For the first time last night, I even flashed a ROM without connecting to my computer, but rather just by downloading the newest AOKP package from GooManager, copying it to the SD Card, then doing a dirty install via Recovery.

Unfortunately i've tried this site. I get lost once i get to #2 and it tells me to "go here" and download things, because it says things like "if you're 64 bit you'll need the OTHER link". What other link? And then it says "Do this UNLESS you're on ATT." I am on ATT WTF do i do? Also when i do try to install some drivers off of one of the random links my computer says I have more up to date drivers already installed. Ahhh the short falls of the internet.

You can get the appropriate version of RSDLite and drivers (32 or 64-bit) from here:
http://androidadvices.com/download-install-rsd-lite-root-motorola-droid/
After that, it's just downloading the unlocker that says "ATT ONLY" at this link:

I sent you a PM.
Use the instruction in this link http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Atrix_4G:_Full_Update_Guide... Everything works there.
And it's better to make a donation to XDA Developers projects to release a stable ICS/JB version
Wow, thats why i still like to come to this community and check whats going on around, even though i don't the phone anymore. OP started a thread, thats been asked tons of times, and no one have flamed him yet, on the contrary, everyone is trying to help him. If he would do this on the GS2 i777 general section, he would have got flamed and the thread would have gone totally offtopic about jokes and stuff like that.
Great community guys! Keep the Atrix forums like this!
PS: Sorry for the offtopic.
Same Atrix as mine
OK it looks like you have the same Atrix as mine.
I used this:

Basically it's a one step process for installing root and unlocking your phone. Unfortunately, it also comes with an outdated CWM.
So once you are done follow these instructions:

That should be it. Good luck.
