Will upgrade from HD (Duffys Leo ROM) be a disappointment? - HD2 General

For the last 3 weeks I have been running Duttys HD WM6.5 Leo Holy Grail R0 with a few minor tweaks of Reales Task Bar, BharS 4 column Start Menu and Vovichek&Jamrecords 16 shorcuts. Coupled with the new Opera 10 bowser it feels like a new phone and has been faster and more stable than the old Orange ROM.
Will an upgrade to HD be worth it or I am likely to be disappointed that there will no surprises?
Obvioulsy one of the big gains will be the increase in screen size and could one of you lucky owners tell me excatly the visible area of the Google maps? On HD I make it 50.5 x 72.5mm = 3661 sq mm

I tried going back to my HD with dutty's holy grail rom after 2 weeks use of my HD2. I was in all honesty underwelmed by my HD2 at first however I only spent about 2mins on my HD before realising how MUCH FASTER and more fluid the HD2 is. So be prepard to be disapointed at first but you'll never go back. This new baby flies!!!! As soon as NEO2007 and Chainfire prove their genius again with GPU drivers the HD2 will be unmatched for a longtime to come I expect

I measure that at 56 x 82mm, which is 4592mm².
Why on earth would you want to use something as small as 3661??? lol
Just kidding mate. I LOVED my HD, but could never go back to it and be happy after having a HD2 for a couple of weeks now.

The HD doesn't do sense 2.5 any justice at all. The HD is now for me almost unusable, in fact I reflashed the original (well, Aug update) Orange ROM because sense 2.5 is just so bad on the HD compared to the HD2.

Just got the HD2 - impressive, very responsive. Nice for typing because you never get a keystroke missed.
Main improvement though is that heavy websites are so much more practical - they download and display much faster, and you can navigate so much quicker.

So approx 25% increase in the area. This worth £500? Maybe - at least the HD2 thread is likely to be more active than the HD. Thanks to all for comments on the new device.

No, probably not. However, if your contract is up, it's pretty cheap. I bought the HD2 for £100ish, £30 cashback, sell HD for £200 (smartphones really keep value well these days), 12 month contract at 34/mth inc web. I need the minutes regardless, so might as well get the newest model.

comparison between diamond and diamond2

first of all, sorry if i'm posting something that has been discussed before. the search function didn't prop anything useful, and as you can see i am a user of this forum.
if this has already been discussed, please give me a link of the topic.
my obvious question is if it is worth it to buy the diamond2 instead of putting its software on the original diamond. besides that, how is the better hardware working ? especially the gps chip ? same problems ?
any thoughts are much appreciated. thanks
What can I say... Diamond 2 is better on every aspect compared to the Diamond. I still got my old Diamond and I just started it up and it felt so bad using it if I compare to the D2.
To sum up everything: D2 is BETTER.
it would be strange to be otherwise. I mean, it's Diamond 2 sooo, tehnically, it comes as an upgrade. It would be strange to be a worse phone. Diamond 2 comes with some solutions to problems in D1.
The GPS is okay, after you have downloaded quickGPS, the connection is within seconds (4-5). I'd use iGo with GPS, it's great. Audio is good, many features. Any more questions? Cheers!!!
I had the Diamond for some days and I hated it. The screen is to small for such a device for my POW. The design is also ugly compared to TD2 (my pow again). I actually only got the TD2 because it was cheap and my plan was to sell it again. But I ended up keeping it. I think it's a great phone but battery life could be better.. GPS is working flawlessly tomtom with no probs what so ever
I used the Diamond for over a year.. it was a great phone however it always felt slightly slow, now on the diamond 2 (which i have now) the specs are very similar however the phone feels much much better!
On the diamond I was flashing roms every couple of days, never satisfied.
On the diamond 2 im sitting on the stock rom!!! ..go figure! Fantastic phone.
There was a dust under the screen issue with D2. Any of you owners still experience it or did HTC correct the problem?

I have not experienced any dust under my screen yet.
u can find pretty nice overview of both over here: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=2368&idPhone2=2689
btw d2 ownz))im just so happy for it...
Diamond 2 is much better than Diamond in every aspect. But HTC has announced lots of new phones, Touch Pro 2, HD 2. These are all the nice device comparing with Diamond 2. And the HTC LEO will be announced soon. I believe it'll be a great device.
HTC LEO is one gigantic device. I love what it can do but you need a breefcase to carry it around....might as well just carry a netbook.

Yeah, HTC announces phones larger and larger. At first HD is large enough and a little bit larger for porket. Now they announced LEO.....Anyway if the phone is really top device, the size doesn't matter.
I switched from the diamond to the diamond2, and until now i regret it!
Maybe technically the d2's pecs are far more better than the original, but i've had a lot of problems with it. Freezes a lot of times (T-mobile stock rom), and the promised improved battery life is still bad (charge every 3 days, with normal use).
The worst part are the look and feel of the td2. Compared to the original i now have a brick in my pocket, the original was so much slimmer than this one! The t-mobile design is that bad that i can't use any car kit because t-moile decided to use a cap in front of the usb-port.
thanks for the replies guys. especially yours hellboy1970. it was clear that the d2 would be better than the d1 in the usual aspects - hardware, battery life, minor fixes, etc. but what i was asking was if it is actually worth it switching .. i mean, the differences between a customized diamond with all the apps and roms and all that and a, so far, stock d2.
of course the d2 will eventually receive more interest than the d1, and i'll switch too by that time, but right now, money wise and all that.
anyway, thanks. i'm thinking of keeping my d1 until d2 lowers its price a bit
Diamond 1 it's a joke compared to D2...
I just flashed the D2 ROM (AZTOR) to my D1 and i'm really fascinated about what a software can do with a device. First i had O2 SW, then some custom ROMs, then original HTC and now this D2 Rom. It's ingenious.
I see the only real disadvantage of the D1 in the "small" display.
I don't care about my GPS taking 3 mins to find a satellite - i usually know at least the direction where i want to go.
So in my eyes, the D2 is a good and certainly better device, but if you own a D1 it's just not worth switching.

No problem. With frequent use, I am sure it will break off and the T-Mobile will be just like the HTC

HD2 (leo) or TD2 (Topaz)? I need your opinon!

My Touch Pro is nearing it's 1.5 year birthday, and although it has served me well I feel it it is time to retire it. I am in the market for a new phone, and two phones have caught my eye. I wanted to get the opinon of current TD2 owners and see what you thought on the matter
Now I am fully aware people would be sat there saying "why would you get the TD2 over the HD2?!", but the TD2 has a few redeaming features that make me think it would like it better. For my money, the TD2 has the following reedeaming features:
Sits better in palm (due to smaller form factor)
Looks much better
£200 cheaper (!)
Bigger battery
It also shares many features, like the ability to run WinMo 6.5 and HTC Sense, same resolution, 5mp camera, SD slot... e.t.c.
I know the HD2 has a much faster 1GHz processor, and the huge screen would be great for GPS. but I am not sure it would be comfertable to use (I think my iPod touch is quite large). That said the screen would be alot nicer to use, and the HD2 will probably run WinMo7 when it finally surfaces (since I will have the phone for at least 12 months, probably 18)...
You can see why I'm stuck right?
What would you do? If you had the oppertunity, would stay with what you have, or upgrade to the latest and greatest?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the TD2 battery 1100 mAh while the HD2 is 1350?
EDIT: To give my opinion, I'm totally satisfied with my TD2 at the moment but I wouldn't mind getting the HD2 instead of it. I watch ALOT of movies on my TD2 and the screen is really good (16:9 in CorePlayer looks beautiful, widescreen ftw!). But I just bought it so I will have to wait some months and see what's coming.
ooops... I actually wanted to vote for the Leo - sorry
Take the HD2 - it has the dual LED flash, 3.5mm headphone jack and capacitive touchscreen - and, most importantly, it's incredibly fast!
I would say get neither if you plan on having them for 12months+
But really I love My TD2. Had it since release day in April. So like 6 months now. If it weren't for the price I'd get an HD2. But then again it's nearly the same phone I have minus the Flash, Big Screen, and SnapDragon. I upgraded from a touch and skipped out on the Original Diamond. And thank god I did, cause a few months later the announcement of the TD2 came.
Wait till Feb for the World Mobile Congress (or Mobile World Congress) I'm sure there will be smaller sized devices than the HD2 that have the same specs. I mean look what happend last year. The HD was announced then along cam the TD2 which is the same yet different. Plus the TD2 was like $200 USD less.
If you can wait wait. If not get the TD2. It looks nicer. and say in6 Months when the D3 is out you can trade up. Cut that 12month wait in half.
I like the HD2.. it's looks good and has a nice big capacitive screen..
If i didn't have the TD2 i would buy the HD2.
But the TD2 is a nice phone, not too big and it's fast enough for me.
The thinks i hate off the TD2:
Bad camera and no flash
My wifi sucks (broken) and HTC won't repair it They tried to repair it 2 times but they failed
But i can't say what phone you should buy, it depends on what you want to do with it..
Fast, big screen, camera flash, good for movies? then go for the HD2
not too big, easy too use with one thumb, cool design? then go for the TD2
I was goign to get the HD1 over the TD2, but as soon as i held the TD2, i love it. Feels better in my hand than somthign the size of an ipod touch.
Go to the store and try both out. You can't beat first-hand experience. Personally, I think the HD2 is too big to carry in your pocket and uncomfortable to use with one hand. HD was already just short of too big for me.
I really hope HTC puts these snapdragons into something smaller than the HD2 eventually. I'd love something the size of TD2 yet with bigger screen. Who decided to sacrifice screen estate to have a frickin' "zoombar" anyway?
I was at a carphone warehouse earlier, and the TD2 dos feel really nice sitting in the hand. How does HTC sense perform on the older hardware?
The leo will be the first of the snapdragon processors things will only get better from there. I'd save the money and go with the TD2/TP2
thsnx for the opinions...very helpful......I am in the same predicament...I've been in the market for a phone for almost a 9 months. I was gonna settle on the TD2, then came the Magic, then the Hero, and I fell out of love with the magic pretty fast. I still like the Hero but Im not sure about the NO BT transfer and poor cam. I am not sure about Android either. But I handled the Hero @ a HTC Store and I have to say that I was impressed by the build quality....the fone is firm..feels like luxury. (at least the brown one)
The Leo will not be in my price range once it comes out. I could buy a whole new laptop once the price it.
Anyways.....I like the HD2..Seems like the safe choice now...The moto STD is making want to be a bit more patient....need to get a phone now...cant wait till the mobile congress....So many choices ...what to do.... Hero, TD2,HD2 ??,STD by Moto,...uhm.....a little still after all......
I have the Topaz running a Leo based ROM (currently from Dutty) and it (Topaz) is an awesome phone, but the Leo has got me drooling- I gotta have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
as much as i would love the 1ghz cpu of the leo it just too big for me, thus i vote topaz.
Size does matter
Its way too big, i gave up on the TP2 due to its sheer size and bulk, yes the bigger screen was awesome, but back to the TD2, its the best balance.
Thanks for the oversight guys, it's mbeen really helpful. I will take a look at the HD2, but I think I will end up with a TD2 and get a new phone 10 months down the line. The hero is pretty nice, but I'm worried the novelty of android will wear off. I does feel really good in the hand, and the build quality is damn good.
Decisions, decisions...
Leo is very big in size, small battery, no 3g calling.
the only thing it has better then the TD2 is the processor.
i agree about the leo being to big. i just got the htc pure yesterday and starting to really love it. feels great in hand. its taking a little to get used to it coming from the fuze. the leo is just the first step. there will be more like it im pretty sure in the future. hopefully with a smaller screen.
Just buy your TD2 with a 1-year contract, by end of next year there will likely be a few snapdragon based phones to choose from. I'm sure you'll have different screen sizes to choose from at that point. Personally I would have gone that way but my company buys my phone so I got stuck with a 2 year on my new Imagio.

Touch HD a good buy?

Hello guys. I am a HTC Diamond user.
Frankly, I am quite disappointed with Diamond's small screen size and hence was thinking of jumping ship to another device. (I can't even type a good smsusing Diamond!)
HTC Touch HD has been out for a long time, was wondering if the old time users here can give me a breakdown of the cons? (well, the spec of HD is almost the same as Diamond, but with a bigger screen, so I can guess all the pros already!)
Will greatly appreciate if you guys can comment on the following areas:
- Battery life? (planning to use HD as a music player as well, 2-3 hrs of music per day)
- The processor is the same, my TD running sense 2.1 lags, is it the same for HD? Or does the additional ram help? But then again, the screen is bigger and causes the phone to use more ram, so can i say I will feel the same lag exp too?
The reason I am looking at this instead of the newer HD2 is 'coz it's always cheaper to buy 2nd hand products
Thanks all!
Hello!
If you use the stock ROM, or a fast custom ROM you shouldnt really have any lag problems, although having not used the diamond i cannot really compare. A lot of the new ROMS with WM6.5 and Sense 2.5 are quite laggy (drives me crazy!) so i tend not to use them.
I have a friend with a touch diamond2, and that seems snappier than my HD.
To be honest, i dont think its worth upgrading from diamond to HD, the devices seem very similar, all you would be getting is a bigger screen, personally i would try something a bit different
As for battery this is dependent on the ROM. with some of the newer ROMs with Sense 2.5 and WM6.5, it only just lasts a day.
With a decent ROM, and i forget to charge it one night, then it will only last until about 4pm the following day.
My phone use each day is roughly:
1-2 hr listening to music
up to 1 hr browsing internet
2 email accounts send/receive every hour
sending a few emails
~10-20 mins call time
10-50 SMS
I got a Touch HD more than a year ago (Nov 2008, actually) and I never regretted one single day having bought it
End of last year and this year, I tried installing a few of the recent WM 6.5.x builds with Sense 2.5, and it shows the age of the device... so I'd agree with gnarlytom: as long as you stick to Sense 2.1, or other today plugins, and stable WM builds (note that some recent ones are stable and fast too, although they might drain battery a bit more), you should not feel the pain of the UI dragging.
Actually, for a couple of months I used WM 6.5.3/6.5.5 and Sense 2.5, so it's not completely unusable... but a week ago I got the HD2, and for the first day or so, I caught myself waiting for a tab to appear, just to realize one second later than no refresh was happening because the tab was already there my brain was used to the half- to one-second waiting times of doing certain things in Sense 2.5! But other parts of the OS kept as fast as before or even faster with the new WM 6.5.x.
The screen size of the HD is great not only for reading and for graphics, but also for typing. In fact, I prefer typing in my HD to typing in my HD2 (using FingerKeyb)! Both portrait and landscape! But it might be just because I'm so used to it... ^^'
I'll try to shut up about the HD2 soon just one more comment: the HD feels more solid, better finished, and sexier than any other phone I ever had -- this includes a variety of Nokias, Samsungs, Motorolas, and yes, the HD2 as well!
Back to the topic... I rarely listened to music from the HD, but my impression is that it doesn't drain the battery that much. I think the battery life gets a bigger hit if you're using (or simply have activated) wifi or 3g/hsdpa all the time. Last month I was using around 2 hours per day of mixed wifi/edge/3g/hsdpa (yeah, varying coverage ) plus maybe 30min-1h call time and a few sms per day, and my average recharge was every 3 days or so, more if I used less data connections. I had the screen brightness fixed at 50%... which is still bright enough to make me squint when the alarm rings in the morning and I want to snooze it and also pretty ok to use in daylight.
One thing you should do if/when you get the HD (or any new device, really) is applying radio updates. One year ago, it could take 2 min for me to get a GPS fix... meanwhile, it's much faster with recent radios, and battery life is improved as well!

So whats next....

My poor touch HD is starting to feel the strain, being patched up with countless ROM updates has kept it going but shortly my Contract will be up with O2 and i feel it may be time to part ways with the old girl
Soo, my question to everyone is, where do we go from here?
HD2? im not so sure, its a fraction too big and apart from being a wee bit snapier its not much difference, and its been out a while now so will there be a new one on the horizon, maybe?
Acer F1, ive heard some good things about this but i hear the build quality is pretty shoddy
an thats my pretty much out of ideas, basicly i want the Touch HD with a faster CPU, faster graphics, same size screen thats not going to be out of date in a couple of months. With all this Windows phone 7 business and android getting new devices left right an centre ive stopped hearing about decent new Windows mobile devices.
has anyone got any ideas, we must all be starting to think the same, the Old girl has been out for years!
I'm in the same boat
Also with the Touch HD - been eyeballing the HTC Desire - wanna go Android now - looks like a great choice!
HD2 for me, no question. The way I see it, this phone will remain the main WinMob legacy phone for all developments in the future due to its spec/availability. I foresee WinMob7 will be fully ported for it, as will a fully working version of Android, it's only a matter of time. Imagine a phone that could boot into Win6.5, Win7 & Android!
In the mean time I'm more than happy with the functionality of my HD (i only ever use Coreplayer, Opera 10, RSSHub, TomTom/GoogleMaps & a couple others), so an updated version that does the same, but better, will do me fine.

I like the look of the performance of the F1, size, battery life, resistive screen and built in stylus, I had an F900 at the same time as my HD and it was close enough build quality wise that I would try the F1, pocketnow has a review on it and mentions build quality, but without going into specifics, check out the HD2 v F1 benchmarks and comments from the guy that has owned both the HD2 and neotouch as to which one has considerably better performance [read both reviews and comment sections] Brandon miniman tends to have a bit of a sour opinion of anything quality wise with acer or e-ten and a bit of a rose tinted view of anything HTC, but definitely worth a read.
I've gone with the Desire, ordered 30 mins ago and should be with on Monday. This weekend is going to draaag!

So - how is it? Glad you made the switchover? Any thoughts you'd like to share?
When my Blackstone finally dies or my contract expires next winter, I will go for Android or iPhone. And while flashing new ROMs was quite amusing for the nerd in me, I'm really looking forward to a phone that just works
Windows Mobile is dead, just compare the application markets of Android/Apple to WinMo...
same here, although I just recently got my HD, once its worn or when I get the opportunity to change I'll go the desire or equivalent awesome phone at that period of time.
And...?
Come on guys, there are loads of us with HDs at the end of contract facing exactly the same predicament - what to go for next!
If you've already made the switch to a Desire or HD2 or something else, how are you getting on? Why are you happy with your new choice (if you are)?
Like Dazza9075 I want more of the same - HD with faster CPU and graphics and no less in screen size. Liked the Desire in my local Orange shop but somehow not happy dropping that tiny bit in screen size. If you are procrastinating because of what is around the corner, tell us what you are more likely to go for and why!

Are you pleased you changed from HD2 to Desire HD?

Now the desire Hd has been around for a few days, I was wondering what those that have changed from HD2 to desire HD think of it. Are you glad you changed? or prefer your old HD? Your thoughts may help those that are thinking about changing..(like me!)
One word: YES!
Now that the novelty of the DHD has worn off, I think i prefer the HD2 (with Android). The DHD is like a HD2 that has missed a few gym sessions and put on a few pounds. The HD2 definately feels better in the hand.
That said, i do like the DHD. It definately benefits from the better GPU and memory.
I would say absolutely yes. Its so great. Think its slightly worse looking than the HD2, but its super fast, slightly faster than my HD2 on droid. But way more reliable, like it actually turns on when you press the on button!
Plus 8gb included
Last week I got the DHD before that I had the HD2,
Pro's DHD over HD2
- Faster boot
- Fast lock screen windows when I press the power button
- Everything works (duh) (one of the last Android roms for HD2 also almost everything works so...
- HTCSense.com (not a real improvement but he...)
- I really like the design and captivate buttons
- New sense = ok
- 8 MP camera instead of 5 MP
- I prefer the power button on top, so not every button on hd2 will wake the phone
- Sometimes apps will not install or work in HD2, did have this on DHD.
Speed is more or less the same, I do not thing one is much faster then the other.
Pro's HD2 over DHD
- Smaller
- Battery life, maybe strange to find out, but I really think my HD2 with android lasted longer!
I will keep my HD2 and waiting that WinMo 7 works so I can see how that works.
Cheers.
Three words - yes yes yes! Whoops I have had an accident ;-)
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If hd2 had million colors on the screen i wouldnt have sold it. Desire win for that only
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I'm still a bit undecided, i prefer the home screen and CHT set up on the HD2 and the fact you can go into android anyway make it much closer than i thought it would be...
having said that the DHD is super slick and smooth with virtually no judders, and texting is superb so as a phone its better but i'm already missing the tweaking and i've only had the DHD since friday LOL
As someone else mentioned above thinking about keeping my HD2 and seeing what happens on the WP7 front because if that gets sorted having the choice of running WP7-Android-WM6 is pretty awesome...
Pro DHD
- ANDROID MARKET
- HTCSense.com
- captivate buttons
- camera seams to be better, but would prefer 5 MP with better quality
- I prefer the power button on top
Pro HD2
- smaller
- lighter
- although the metal of the DHD imposes a better quality I prefer the gummed surface of the HD2
- with Co0kies home tab I have much more information on the Home screen as with Androids Sense Home
i also upgraded from the hd2 to dhd, and i think the dhd is a lot better.
- Its more reliable than android on hd2
- Its faster
- I think it looks & feels better
- Better camera
- htcsense.com (that needs some improvements tho)
Why the hd2 is better
- battery easy accessible (spare battery is easy with hd2)
- instantheart rate (search for it in the market) works better on hd2
The HD2 is only smaller by like a few mm guys. It's hardly that noticeable
The hd2 is literally only a few mm smaller but the shape of the dhd makes it feel bigger than the actual difference is IME...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Only had my Desire HD for a couple of days but so far I'm happy.
DHD is faster and more responsive.
Only 2 apps needed to make the DHD perfect - secubox and the thing I miss most of all, CHT
I'm much preferring my DHD! I can use Android 24/7 now!!
I had no end of troubles with Android on my HD2, tried several radios, several rom builds! The best result i got was stable for a few days, then the longer I used it, the more often it would black screen of death and I'd have to reformat and start over - got kinda bored of doing that!

SecretVaultpro.
Its in the market.
I have the DHD after my HD2, and I love the DHD more!
I think the reasons of this has already been told by those who think the same as me.
And as Ericjennings said, u only need 2 apps to make it perfect, in my case only one app was enough to make it perfect.
With my HD2 I needed tons of apps sometimes, and even a HSPL to get better ROM's and stuff like that.
Yep, I feld in love again after my HD2, and this time with my DHD
I love the DSD, had a huge amount of problems with my HD2.
Used to freeze at least 5 times a day, wouldnt start when hitting the power button etc etc.
Only thing i really miss is the CHT home screen, hope it will be available for DSD soon.
It was by far the greatest home screen available.
Anyone know if there is a CHT coming for Android sense???
Ive had the DHD for around 7hrs now.
its much faster and smoother to the HD2.
Def not liking this sim cover..its a PITA to remove..and mine doesnt align properly on the right side. it protrudes out by 0.5mm!
changed my hd2 for dhd. happy for screen, chipset, battery, sound with earclip. less happy for cover...perfect assembly, but I don't think it will last 1 year like my old hd2. I saw its paint, I think we will see some with peeling in a few time
