Now the desire Hd has been around for a few days, I was wondering what those that have changed from HD2 to desire HD think of it. Are you glad you changed? or prefer your old HD? Your thoughts may help those that are thinking about changing..(like me!)
One word: YES!
Now that the novelty of the DHD has worn off, I think i prefer the HD2 (with Android). The DHD is like a HD2 that has missed a few gym sessions and put on a few pounds. The HD2 definately feels better in the hand.
That said, i do like the DHD. It definately benefits from the better GPU and memory.
I would say absolutely yes. Its so great. Think its slightly worse looking than the HD2, but its super fast, slightly faster than my HD2 on droid. But way more reliable, like it actually turns on when you press the on button!
Plus 8gb included
Last week I got the DHD before that I had the HD2,
Pro's DHD over HD2
- Faster boot
- Fast lock screen windows when I press the power button
- Everything works (duh) (one of the last Android roms for HD2 also almost everything works so...
- HTCSense.com (not a real improvement but he...)
- I really like the design and captivate buttons
- New sense = ok
- 8 MP camera instead of 5 MP
- I prefer the power button on top, so not every button on hd2 will wake the phone
- Sometimes apps will not install or work in HD2, did have this on DHD.
Speed is more or less the same, I do not thing one is much faster then the other.
Pro's HD2 over DHD
- Smaller
- Battery life, maybe strange to find out, but I really think my HD2 with android lasted longer!
I will keep my HD2 and waiting that WinMo 7 works so I can see how that works.
Cheers.
Three words - yes yes yes! Whoops I have had an accident ;-)

If hd2 had million colors on the screen i wouldnt have sold it. Desire win for that only

I'm still a bit undecided, i prefer the home screen and CHT set up on the HD2 and the fact you can go into android anyway make it much closer than i thought it would be...
having said that the DHD is super slick and smooth with virtually no judders, and texting is superb so as a phone its better but i'm already missing the tweaking and i've only had the DHD since friday LOL
As someone else mentioned above thinking about keeping my HD2 and seeing what happens on the WP7 front because if that gets sorted having the choice of running WP7-Android-WM6 is pretty awesome...
Pro DHD
- ANDROID MARKET
- HTCSense.com
- captivate buttons
- camera seams to be better, but would prefer 5 MP with better quality
- I prefer the power button on top
Pro HD2
- smaller
- lighter
- although the metal of the DHD imposes a better quality I prefer the gummed surface of the HD2
- with Co0kies home tab I have much more information on the Home screen as with Androids Sense Home
i also upgraded from the hd2 to dhd, and i think the dhd is a lot better.
- Its more reliable than android on hd2
- Its faster
- I think it looks & feels better
- Better camera
- htcsense.com (that needs some improvements tho)
Why the hd2 is better
- battery easy accessible (spare battery is easy with hd2)
- instantheart rate (search for it in the market) works better on hd2
The HD2 is only smaller by like a few mm guys. It's hardly that noticeable
The hd2 is literally only a few mm smaller but the shape of the dhd makes it feel bigger than the actual difference is IME...

Only had my Desire HD for a couple of days but so far I'm happy.
DHD is faster and more responsive.
Only 2 apps needed to make the DHD perfect - secubox and the thing I miss most of all, CHT
I'm much preferring my DHD! I can use Android 24/7 now!!
I had no end of troubles with Android on my HD2, tried several radios, several rom builds! The best result i got was stable for a few days, then the longer I used it, the more often it would black screen of death and I'd have to reformat and start over - got kinda bored of doing that!

SecretVaultpro.
Its in the market.
I have the DHD after my HD2, and I love the DHD more!
I think the reasons of this has already been told by those who think the same as me.
And as Ericjennings said, u only need 2 apps to make it perfect, in my case only one app was enough to make it perfect.
With my HD2 I needed tons of apps sometimes, and even a HSPL to get better ROM's and stuff like that.
Yep, I feld in love again after my HD2, and this time with my DHD
I love the DSD, had a huge amount of problems with my HD2.
Used to freeze at least 5 times a day, wouldnt start when hitting the power button etc etc.
Only thing i really miss is the CHT home screen, hope it will be available for DSD soon.
It was by far the greatest home screen available.
Anyone know if there is a CHT coming for Android sense???
Ive had the DHD for around 7hrs now.
its much faster and smoother to the HD2.
Def not liking this sim cover..its a PITA to remove..and mine doesnt align properly on the right side. it protrudes out by 0.5mm!
changed my hd2 for dhd. happy for screen, chipset, battery, sound with earclip. less happy for cover...perfect assembly, but I don't think it will last 1 year like my old hd2. I saw its paint, I think we will see some with peeling in a few time

I currently have the older HTC HD and I am debating whether I should upgrade it to the HTC HD 2 rather than wait for a better phone.
Does anyone here in this forum upgrade his or her HTC HD to the HD 2 and is glad to have done so?
HI Earthbrain.
Yes, I upgraded my HD to a HD2 and I am very happy with it.
THe HD2 is much faster and responsive than the HD, and I have had far less issues. HTC Sense does a lot to mask the windows interface, and most of the time I don't need to delve deeper than the standard apps.
It is a big device, but you get used to it.
Very happy overall. Have not felt compelled to change the rom, whereas with the HD I kept trying different roms to get stability/features.
Cheers
Greg
I would. The processor is amazingly fast compared to the HD. Capacitive screen is also very nice.
Yes! Do it!
I upgraded by HD to a HD2 and have been very happy with it. The interface is much more responsive. The capacative screen takes a bit of getting used to (no using my fingernail anymore!), but is far better.
I gave my old HD to my partner, and I really notice when I use her phone how much slower it is.
Get the HD2 - you won't regret it.
I had also upgraded from HD to HD2 although i had some bad experience with HTC when purchasing this phone. After all i am still happy with the phone Really responsive
Few things u need to take note.
HD2 do not have:
1) Stylus
2) Front camera for video calls
It is definitely a step up from the HD.
I have an HD and just got an HD2.
Still getting use to using my fingers, instead of a keyboard
or stylist.
jus go for it
definitely recommended to update from HD. I did so and enjoying every moment using it.
It is so very fast. Its a beast with that 1ghz processor...can take on absolutely anything.
Best Windows phone I ever used!!!
asking few questions to legend owner.
between legend and desire, i'm leaning towards legend because of its design.
but snapdragon on desire sounds very tempting...
what do you say legend users? do you experience any lag because of lack of cpu or ram compare to desire?
The desire is more powerful but don't forget that its screen has a higher resolution, in other words it needs more power...
Why I've chosen the legend over the desire?
- First of all the legend has a much better finish than the desire, that looks too "nerd" for me. It looks more like a small computer than a cell phone..
- The legend is very smooth and do not really need more power
-The legend can almost do everything the desire can do but with a better pocket size.
- With a 3,2 screen instead of 3,7 screen, and a worse processor, it think the battery is better.
However, you should take the desire if:
- You really want to watch videos on your device
- You like playing a lot with your device because i think that games are going to require more and more config to run...
Look at the price for both desire & legend, its nearly the same: there is no best phone between them...
=> The legend has one of the best design for a smartphone
=> The desire is the more powerful
Allow me to offer a few pointers. I've got both devices. Desire for myself and the Legend for my wife.
Performance-wise, there's no doubt the Desire edges out the Legend. But the Legend is not 40% slower as the CPU clockspeeds may suggest. You'll encounter the occasional hiccup with the Legend when compared to the Desire, but you probably won't notice it unless you have both devices like I do. I would call this round a draw.
Aesthetically, it's very subjective. When you pull your Legend out, people will be drawn to the aluminum unibody enclosure. When you pull your Desire out, people will be drawn to the large 3.7" screen. I think the Legend looks nicer, but the Desire is in no way "geeky". It looks better in real life than on photos/videos. I'd describe it as more sophisticated looking while the Legend is more sexy.
Surely, you've read/seen reviews of both. See here for my review on the Desire and here for my review on the Legend. I tried to only put down things that were not mentioned or covered extensively by others. And I mentioned a couple of differences that may or may not matter to you.
Personally, I think it comes down to your screen/device size preference.
every time I pull out my legend I always get asked about it. it stands out from the crowd especially being in a country where you cannot buy it in store.
as for lag on the legend, it gets a little bit of lag if you quickly switch between lots of applications but other than that its fine
also if lag is a problem then disabling HTC sense is always an option but then you are limited to 3 home screens
it is a very good looking device tho.

big help from all of you guys......love the look of legend and i think i will go with legend instead of desire unless htc decides to make a legend looking phone with snapdragon processor
i think you will be very happy with it , especially once it is rooted and we can save apps to the sdcard :

Everytime I pull out my Legend in public I get a fine for indecent exposure. But that's for a different forum.
I love my Desire both how it looks and how it performs. Just needs a better battery to really make it the best phone period.
I haven't touched the Desire, so I can only write about the Legend.
In my own opinion:
The Legend looks GREAT, ATTRACTIVE & CLEAN design, & feels SOLID. I get so much compliments about the phone, even old folks, who don't care about phones, think the my phone is very nice looking.
However, the sharp edge on top of the earpiece sometimes hurts my ear.
It performs very well & smooth.
I use the phone MAINLY for calls & text messages. & I don't play & care for games on the phone. Therefore, the Legend's SIZE is PERFECT for me.
The phone has GREAT audio quality, which is nice & clear, & has good battery life.
I read somewhere that says because of the Legend's aluminum case, it doesn't get excellent signal. However, the reception has not let me down yet.
I'm also using HTC Touch Diamond 2, & HTC HD. My house has really bad signal & I have NO PROBLEMS with the Legend, whereas the other 2 get drop calls constantly.
It has 4 plastic buttons that feel REALLY CHEAP. You'll be disappointed with these buttons.
It has some other Cons, but you'll get that with the Desire too, so I won't go there.
I think you should also go to the Desire's board & ask what they like & dislike about the Desire & then make your own decision.
For now, I'm keeping the Legend until I can find a phone suitable for my need.
Cheers,
D
yeah the only real problem with it are the cheap feeling buttons which is a shame but the rest is of a very high quality
legend or desire
i have used nexus one before i got my legend. speed-wise, nexus one is no doubt faster than hero. but when i used legend, it's almost as smooth as the nexus one. also, when you install a lot of apps or put a lot of widgets in the homescreen, there's a tendency to lag. after using the nexus one for 2 months, i would say i like the legend more compared to nexus one. sorry im comparing legend with nexus one instead of desire. they both have the same specs anyway, well majority.

nexus one being almost identical to desire, every piece of info helps! thanks
... and something important too: Nexus one is due to be the "first in class" android, so is the most expensive one. Desire is cheaper than Nexus one to avoid confusions in the market. Legend need to be cheaper than Desire due to processor speed. I believe Legend would be more expensive if Nexus and Desire would not be available in the market. So, Legend has a competitive price with an excellent hardware and software configuration.
no doubt you are right. Best device I ever had

week with legend
I been using Legend just about a week.. first phone ever that don't make any kind of hardware sound.. almost every phone that I had and tested even with HD2.. make those hardware movement noise.. this phone is rock solid.. by the look and design.. it's phone, fit in ur hand perfect.. one of the best sound quality phone that I had.. HTC sense and Android.. sense work great.. since this is my first android phone.. I can't tell much about it..I used my bro's Hero about a week. Legend is much faster.. here in US.. 3G service don't work.. but even with Edge,, it's much faster and smoother internet experience than any other phone that I had or tested.. only thing that I don't like about the hardware is the 4button key.. I wish HTC made this with capacitive touch key like the Nexus one or touch HD..
buy the Legend.. it's cheaper than Desire.. also more phone factor than Desire..
if u need super PDA+ huge phone.. buy the Desire..
LOL.. just buy either one.. u'll like it anyhow..

I have used google nexus one and legend (I dumped the nexus one in favour of the legend).
i challenge anyone to say there is a difference in speed
the 7227 is a much improved cpu over the hero/touch pro 2/diamond 2 one etc.
its not just the speed.
I think the cpu is a side issue
the real difference between these two is just the screen resolution.
my 2 cents:
1. most android apps just scale up, so actually look worse on 800x480 (no doubt will get better)
2. you can't actually browse at 800x480 on such a small screen, so its benefit is mostly in smoothing
3. 480x320 video will be smoother. very little the human will gain over 800x480 at this size and 320x480 video files will be smaller.
4. 800x480 screeen uses slightly more battery
5. lower resolutions are here to stay, e.g. HTC Tatto, Sony X10 Mini, etc. only have 240x320 !!!
In summary, whilst 800x480 would be theoretically nicer to have, it makes no difference to me at the moment. the biggest thing I wanted was amoled, which I have got.
You will LOVE the Legend. Its a keeper.
I've got the Legend, because my X10 got swiped.
(Risking OT Compared to the X10, the Legend is much smoother.
However, for me, I may consider the Desire strongly, but simply because I am using a Mac and that the WiFi teether on the Desire makes things a snap for me, especially when I am out of the office.
But otherwise, I do agree that the Legend is a keeper... maybe I'll hand it over to the wife, or to one of my kids.
legend looks super awesome in comparison to the staid desire ..
i want to thank everyone on the great informative reply. i just ordered mine at htcperida can't wait to play with this bad boy!! once again, thanks a lot everyone!!!!

Mine are:- (coming from nexus one)

Loving the keyboard
Loving the updated HTC Sense
I have the loose hinge prob, but for now its not a concern
It noticably 'speedier' that my nexus
Cant comment on battery life yet as only had for one day
HTC Sense.com is still a bit buggy (couldnt locate my phone, also couldnt sent a text message from online)

This issue with the hinge is off-putting, read about it in some of the reviews before it was released so to hear it from an actual user of the production model is rather off-putting.
I've been using mine since this morning. Still getting used to the 4 row keyboard. Hinge is loose but ok. For now. Colours are less vibrant but more accurate than my Desire. Battery seems on A par.
It did start running A bit sluggish but I re booted and its fast again.

I picked up a DZ on the 3rd and I am surprised how heavy it feels, but that's not an issue. I came from an HTC Legend.
Things I am happy about:
- New HTC Sense has many new features (skins, htcsense.com, ring profiles, reorderable screens)
- Flash works surprisingly well, especially for games. Silky smooth in fullscreen.
- The keyboard is great. I was surprised that there's a tab key and a dedicated question-mark key.
- The camera app is greatly improved (compared to the Legend). Even supports 1-2 person automatic self-portraits.
- The screen is nice, it seems the same as my wife's Desire (minus Z), which is LCD version.
- Wifi signal is better than with the Legend
- The phone is more aesthetically pleasing in person than it is in images. I like it a lot, even if it is a bit plain-ish
- You can share multiple videos to facebook at once now! (I think, I didn't actually do it but it let me select multiple).
- I LOVE the HTC flashlight app, and the light on this phone amazes me.
Things I am iffy about or dislike:
- HTC Sense is still choppy in the apps list and in various HTC apps.
- The phone gets a little slow in things like Angry Birds. Every few seconds there's a stutter. It just doesn't seem as fast I was expecting coming from a 2.1 Legend.
- The keyboard and soft-key lights sometimes go out on me and flicker on and off as if the software doesn't know that I have the keyboard out and I am typing.
- Swype has to be turned off and on sometimes after using the hard keyboard. It juts doesn't put the words into the input boxes for some reason.
- The battery life so far is pretty bad. But I think I had too much going on.
- The camera photos seem dull compared to what I saw in the viewfinder immediately prior to taking the photo
- The speaker is not nearly as good as I was expecting, I was hoping it would be better than the Legends by a considerable margin.
- The HTC likes app seems pointless.
I am torn as to whether or not I want to use HTC sense. I wish I could pick and choose pieces of it. I'd completely ditch the app drawer, for example.

I came from a buggy Samsung Galaxy S and have been enjoying my HDZ for two and a half days now. Here are my impressions:
- Screen is nice but pales in comparison to the SGS.
- I am still getting used to the flip out keyboard. Swype remains my preferred input method.
- The hinge doesn't seem to be an issue for me, but then again, I don't use the keyboard all that much.
- Speed is very good. My Quadrant scores are in the mid 1500's, which is lower than my SGS, but it feels faster than my SGS ever did.
- Camera is very nice, although I haven't loaded the pics onto my PC yet to see the quality. I'm heading off on vacation next week, which will be the true test of the camera and camcorder functions.
- I also really like the flashlight utility - very simple and yet oh so functional.
- Sense UI took a little getting used to, and after about a day I switched back to LauncherPro.
- The phone still feels heavy to me, but at least there's some weight behind it when you beat iPhone users over the head
- The speaker is a letdown. It is very tinny and sounds hollow, even for the ringtone.
- I still press the touchpad as though it's a home button a lot, or press the home button instead of the menu button. This is most likely just getting used to the form factor compared to the SGS and I expect it will improve with time.
Overall, I like the phone quite a bit. It certainly doesn't have that sexy wow factor of the SGS or iPhone 4, but the utilitarian in me loves the speed, functionality and usability of the HDZ.

wow.. thats pretty bad :|
I got mine yesterday, and in general I'm rather disappointed.
The hinge is terrible - it opens by itself, and when I try and use it with the phone closed, the top half wobbles from side to side!
The weight is a bit more than I expected, and the keyboard is too wide for typing on with 2 hands. Maybe I have small hands compared to some, but I feel myself having to stretch my hands to reach certain keys.
The whole point in taking this phone was for the hardware keyboard - and I find myself not using it already!
I've just restored it all back to default, and then am away to place it back in its box and go back to my HD2! I'll maybe see about a Desire HD, but I'm more drawn towards a regular Desire as I think my HD2 was too big, and the Desire HD is a little bit bigger.
Had mine a couple of days (Desire Z purchased in the UK) and here are some impressions (coming from a nexus one):
-Screen is amazingly crisp, viewing angle of it is amazing, no loss of colour even looking at the screen from extreme angles
-Trackpad is very responsive, even more so than the ball on the N1
- New HTC sense is very pretty, much more customisable than my first experience of it on the Hero
- Oh god the boot times. For those of you who haven't done so yet - reboot your phone. Mine, even fully laden with apps shuts down in under 2 seconds and boots up in 2-3. The boot screen is there long enough for the startup sound to play, then the phone is 100% operational. Never seen such a fast boot on a smartphone.
- Aluminium is nice and even the plastic parts feel nice and sturdy
- Speaker is a little tinny, but as all i'll ever hear out of it are ringtones and notifications, not a massive issue
- Keyboard is hands down the best i've used on a mobile device (though I occasionally suffer from the aforementioned issue with the backlight being intermittent, it seems to be a rare occurrence)
- Seems faster and more responsive than my rooted and overclocked N1
- Side buttons are solid and easy to press, nice coming from an N1 with its slightly flaky power button
- The hinge. I have no issue with it and think it's a very well engineered solution to revealing the keyboard. While yes, if you pick the whole unit up by the screen or hold it upside down it flops a bit, I never hold my phone like this so it's a total non-issue. In standard use it has never opened or closed without me wanting it to. Perhaps it varies by region, as I haven't experienced the screen wobble while the hinge is closed either.
Overall exceedingly happy with it, without doubt the best qwerty handset i've ever used.
So I'm having a weird issue that I haven't been addressed yet. I have a review unit for my site, thecellularguru.com, as well as one I bought for myself because I loved it so much and wanted to use it on Rogers.
Both units have phantom screen touches where every once in a while the phone will become possessed and start selecting things randomly. I can sometimes make it stop by holding a finger down on the screen which seems to snap it out of its weirdness but it always comes back. One unit was barely functional so I returned it and the other one seems better but its quite disconcerting.
Anyone else had these problems?

[Q] Android on HD2 - how fast and stable is it compared to "official" Android phones?
I had great experiences with "Official" Android phones - the Nexus One, Cliq, Samsung Vibrant, and now the MyTouch 4G. Something that they all seem to lack though - that big, beautiful screen on the HD2!
So I have to ask - in it's current form, how does the speed and stability of Android on the HD2 stack up against "Official" Android phones with similar hardware specs?
Just curious - not trying to start a flame war or anything, just looking to get educated a little!
<DING DING SCHOOLS IN!>
cant compare it as i do not have a strictly android phone but android on my hd2 is pretty fast and stable. if i were to guess, its just as fast and stable. only con that i see is fast battery drain but from what i saw from my friend incredible, it didnt have good battery life with everything turned on (data and locatin services turned on)
if i didnt own an hd2 already, i wouldnt hessitate to buy an android phone if it had all the features i wanted on it.
I'd say the HD2 in its current form (With most ROMs) is as stable and fast(er in some cases) than stock android phones... Although if you want a real android phone with the 4.3 inch screen, get the desire HD... The HD2 is a tinkerer's phone, so if you don't like messing around with your phone alot, I wouldn't bother.
I have a Vibrant. IMHO the HD2 is as roughly as good as the Vibrant (with the lagfixes) and BETTER in the battery life area under heavy use - the latter is due to the Vibrant's AMOLED screen, which is a power pig.
The Vibrant is a bit smoother, but I like the HD2 better - running Android. The Vibrant is currently in a drawer.
One problem that vexes - the HD2 will not send or receive an MMS when connected via Wifi. None of the builds thus far have fixed this. It's the only serious problem I have with Android on the HD2 at the present time.
I have demoed following Android phones and found NONE to be even comparable to how smooth Android operated on HD2 phone. Among the phones are Nexus One, G1, G2, MyTouch series (all phones), Desire, Hero, and few more I don't know the name but were from Sprint and Verizon Carrier in USA.
I am really not kidding - any phone I tried it was not smooth whatsoever. Scores on Quadrant really do not show everything but if it's to judge by the scores even, Galaxy S Series is the only phone to score higher but still does not have smoothness I have with my HD2.
Battery wise, I got it to deliver 3-6mA and that is plenty for me and my usage (over 24hrs)... Can battery be better? Well, 1230mAh capacity I think delivers the best posible. If it was 1500mAh like in Galxy phones it would be better as well
I don't know what you guys are smoking. I have played with a vibrant and an incredible. When I leap with an incredible, it's smooth. When I leap with my HD2, it takes 3 seconds for it to leap and its not even remotely smooth. Android on the HD2 is far from smooth. Secondly, you claim that the vibrant is lacking a big beautiful screen? HD2 is only .3 inches longer diagonally, and you can barely use the HD2 when it is sunny outside. The screen on the vibrant is what every android phone deserves to have.
Hopefully NAND can fix the lag issues, which will probably be released when America has another non white president.

I forgot to add that it really depends what build you have, what WinMo ROM and Radio you paired up with that build and what apps you use. Any phone OS can be choppy - important is to know what slows it down and eliminate those issues to get smoothness

Energy ROM, VBN, Chuckydroid, OZDROID, 2.12 or 2.15, shubcraft, Mdj, froyostone, (I'm going to try biffmod next week because I can't stand HTC Sense) all the same results. Though I do have over 50 applications installed on my android build.

Also, I'm guessing that the smoothness you fail not to see in a Galaxy S phone that you do see in a HD2 is probably related to android 2.1 and touchwiz which cyanogenmod will fix soon enough.
I bet you that g2 is probably the smoothest phone running when it has cyanogenmod6.1 RC3 running.
Never really got on with my galaxy s the bright colourful screen was nice, but it was still pretty useless in full sunlight, even worse it was over bright in bed at night reading ebooks, you could never lower the brightness enough, the gps was sometimes ok but most of the time inaccurate, cheap plastic build, no camera flash...and I spent a lot of time trying to get rid of the annoying lags.
Now on the other hand my hd2 runs both windows and android very well if set up correctly, the screen is noticeably bigger even though on paper its only 0.4 inch larger, you have an amazing array of choice from wm roms to every kind of android build including sense instead of the awful touchwiz, the camera flash is perfect for photos as well as doubling up as a torch, I know have my hd2 predominantly running android its fast smooth and runs practically every app and game available without a glitch, the gps is far superior to the galaxy s setup and the build quality is solid and well manufactured.

Couldn't agree more. The thing I like most about the HD2 is the pure "tinkerability". For me the fun is in trying all the different ROMS, and being able to dual boot the phone.
With Magldr coming soon (we hope) it will be even better
It feels faster than my father's Galaxy S. And I clock my HD2 at 768 MHz max (as did Windows Mobile) because at higher clock rates the screen gets too hot.
for me, i am "supporting" 5 HTC HD2 owners plus my wife and mine = 7 HD2's. When i used to run WinMO i'd get "hey can you help me with....?" phone calls all the time. Now i have converted everyone to Android on the HD2 running chuckyDROID rom, 2.15.50.14 radio adn bluetopia 1.03 with a hastarin 8.2 kernel. I have not gotten "service" calls for 3 weeks now. LOL, i do this for fun for my friends and family. Other friends that dont like tmobile have went with the Evo, vibrant and Droid X have always referenced the HD2 as the "standard". I will be using my HD2 for a while until something better comes out. Doenst look like it will be anytime soon, at least for another 6 months or longer. With bluetooth, gps, and 2 emails accounts checking every 15 minutes i get 9 hrs or more out of my phone, also i make about 100 minutes of calls a day minimum.
sounds like i should finally set up a propper android hd2 build xD but im soooooo lazy xD
Fix PPP data drops, MMS issues people have been experiencing, battery drain and give me Nand and ill be using Android on my phone as long as possible. I'm reluctant to give the phone up because of the screen size but I need the stability in the above mentioned areas.
As it is, the newest build I'm using has excellent data connection using 3g with maybe 1 or 2 drops so so far so I'm guessing that will be a thing of the past soon.

well.. right now im using a nexus one, to try out how it runs
in a way.. i like it more. the screen size is just hurting my eyes.. im wondering if, when i set up my hd2 correctly, can run that fast too... i should just finally stop being lazy i love my hd2 too much to exchange it with a nexy xD
I have a few Co workers with official android phones. Droid2, DroidX, and an Evo.
My HD2 runs smoother and faster than theirs.
My battery drains is just a little more than when I was using winmo. Bit enough to get me they the 10 hour work day with the usage.
I will not get another phone until T-Mobile gets another phone with a screen as big as the HD2.
I have been fully using android for about 2 months now and about 3 weeks with the Nexus build.
I do not like sense.
I have not had any data drops at all. GpS locks within 30 seconds.
No screen freezes.
Everything is working perfect enough for what I do on daily use.
I installed hadcent for text and mom's ans I can send and receive full size pics.
Just my findings.
Sent from HD2 on Androids.
I've got a lot of friends with various android phones... the HD2 can easily run android smoother and quicker than a native android phone that is still running a stock rom... as long as you take the time setting up your HD2 correctly and work out any bugs you come across. But almost any android phone (with similar specs to the HD2) I've seen that the owner took the time to root, put custom rom on, and tweak to improve performance can out-perform the HD2 without question. Everyone compares the HD2 to stock android phones and says how the HD2 runs android better, but it's not really a fair comparison because the HD2 isn't stock... it's tweaked and has custom roms that are rooted, so if comparing to other android phones, they should also be tweaked and rooted with custom roms to be fair and accurate with the comparison. My friend with an original desire has android running amazingly fast, smooth and stable... much more than I've ever seen anyones HD2.
I always tell everyone if you plan on only running android, you will be better off with a native android phone. There are custom roms for native android phones, too, so you can play with different build like you can with the HD2. Personally, I still like using winmo a lot, especially with the new cht2.0, so I wouldn't trade my HD2 for any other phone right now. And we will have a taste of WP7 soon. So if you also want to use winmo and be able to play with wp7, then the HD2 is great. If you're just planning on using android, go for the Desire HD or another native android phone, because with tweaks found on these forums, I'm pretty sure that you will always be able to run android more stable and smooth on a native android phone.
couple of my friends have the desire HD,ive played with both and tbh, hd2 seems to run android better, but I will still get a desire when i upgrade, galexy doesnt even come close....no flash....funny screen, no thanks!
Ok, so, I think we've established that the speeds are close to that of a native Android phone, if not better in some cases... Great!
Now - lets talk battery life.
On my Nexus One I was getting roughly 16-18 hours.
On my HTC G2 I am currently getting roughly the same.
On a Samsung Vibrant I was getting probably almost consistently 18 hours. (Go figure? I never understood why - everyone else is getting worse than the N1 and G2)
How does your battery life compare to that of native Android phones you have used (using them roughly the same amount)?
I want to buy a new smartphone. What is the best?
Is there other options because those phones are both nice but there are newer ones with dual core about the same price as those phones. If you want versatility then the HD2 is the phone for you. if you want pure android from the door and dont really want the hassle of messing around then I would go withe the Desire HD. I have the HD2 and i love the phone alot of development for it but it is getting old. I would go with the Desire HD.
czarsuperstar......... Define versatility.
Uh...
Desire HD has newer CPU and GPU.
So... Desire HD/

Grip of death issue on the Sensation...and the nail to the coffin for the Sensation is that other brands do offer better per dollar value...such as SGSII. lol.
Between HD2 and Desire HD, go with the Desire HD, its a far newer phone with improved CPU and GPU as well as other small tweaks such as the camera, most importantly, a far more superior operating system...HD2 had a lot of issues with the digitaliser...

If I were you I would not consider hanging with these phones. Though very popular phone but...I would put 10% more on the top of my budget n bought the new dual core phones like sensation or GS2.
I got DHD now. I like it but there are couple of other phones more powerful, better GPU and better battery life.
Decision is yours: If no last options I would prefer DHD far better specs than HD2
My wife has Samsung Galaxy. Everything just seems to 'work' on that phone compared to my HD. Dont be blinkered into choosing an HTC phone based on past glories.

I'm also tempted to buy a S2 galaxy.
People b*tch about it being plastic but you have very good plastic and bad metal if you know what I mean, as long as the chassis is sturdy.
Also rf-signals (gps, wifi, bt and gsm (still a phone)) pass through plastic more easily than metal.
For one I would not buy a HD2 anymore if it would be your only phone.
Like someone said, hardware issues. Head down to the hd2 forum and you will see loads of people complaining about bad blocks, digitizers etc. things that are not really replacable etc.
As being a 'toy' phone then yes the HD2 is fantastic.
I now have the DHD but I'm still not sure that I like it. I also have a ZTE blade (yes the cheap thing) and it beats the DHD in wifi, gps and loudspeaker (as being able to hear something not like a tweeter on the DHD)
The DHD on the other hand is faster, has a better camera (still seeing pink spot, check a grey wall and bump up colour and contrast) and larger screen (did I say that the ZTE screen was brighter also?).
So it all depends on your needs.
I would love to testdrive a couple of phones and compare them for a week.
There are 2 things about SGS2 which wins over Sensation. It's Super Amoled bright screen and it's light weight!
Downside: very cheap looking phone! seems like bought from a $2.00 shop lol
Sensation: It's got sense 3.0 because it make sense! a bit lagging If I'm not wrong my DHD runs smoother than HTC sensation. > May be they have fixed with the new update!
NOT to overwhelm OP with these ideologies . Ya should have these things in mind before buying your SMART PHONE. Or else you'll end up regrating. Now we say HD2 is old 2,3 months later you'll say to Sensation or GS2. It's all Money and Marketing but on top of that you should consider your own needs and requirements from a smart phone.

I have been a member of the HD2 section of this forum for over a year, and until last week i owned 2 x HD2 phones.
Trust me.....get a HTC Desire!!!!
Owned my desire for a week and it's BRILLIANT compared to HD2 problems.
matt
As few have mentioned the DHD has better hardware spec than the HD2.
What nobody has mentioned though is the screen is way better on the DHD especially in terms of accuracy of typing, thats what i've found anyway...
If they are your only 2 choices defo the DHD in my experience...
DHD is better than HD2,they are uncomparable, but why not another newer and more powerful dual core phone? The two of them are out of fashion now.
I think the Desire HD is still a very good phone compared to the newer generation phones (SGS2, Sensation) and a viable option. It depends on what features you need though.
Why?
-Dualcore does not bring any real advantages right now. When apps really profit from it there will be better phones. + it usually uses more power than singlecore.
So the speed improvement compared to a DHD is very minimal and probably not noticable in general.
-DHD has one of the best custom rom support. From different Sense 2.1 and Sense 3 roms to Cyanogen or MIUI variations you can flash what you want on your DHD. Custom roms on the newer phones are still in early developement.
-Software from both SGS2 and Sensation isnt quite there imho. Touchwiz is well... touchwiz, and SGS2 has some problems with 3d games and overheats sometimes. And somehow the sensation just doesnt feel that smooth (i had the feeling sense 3 on my DHD runs smoother^^) we can only hope updates will correct that.
I could go on. But in my opinion upgrading from a DHD to one of the newer phones is something you should only do if you have more than enough money on your bank.
But you're in another situation. You need a new phone and if money is an issue i think the DHD is still a good option (forget the HD2 its just too old). Its not without flaws but neither are the newer phones.
I will stick to my DHD for at least another year. But if I would be in your spot(and money wasnt an issue) right now id probably go for the Sensation with a good custom rom (they should be out soon with the bootloader unlocked now).
The SGS2 is very good, but there are some things that are dealbrakers for me. For example the screen. Everyones praising it to heaven but i think its just awefull to look at^^ Colors are way off. And stuff mentioned above..

Ah, I'm not alone in thinking that then? Full brightness, looks fine - anything less and the SGSII has a green tint to it. Yuck.
I've got a Desire HD; works very well for me - all the better for rooting and putting on Cyanogen instead of Sense!
HD2 is pretty old now. I would say of the 2 dhd

I had HD2 first and went from HD2 to Desire HD.
Desire HD is a much better phone and double so fast than HD2.
Desire HD or Sensation is today options
