Is there any way for the wallpaper to remain untiled when I open my keyboard and the Today screen is set in landscape view?
One method is to resize it to 800X800. I always like to start with square pictures so the image doesn't distort when I re-size.
Bump.
Anyone know if there's a reg edit or something?
I would set it to 800 800, but that might skew the way the image looks, for example, if it was a person or something.

No matter what .tsk file I use, when I use the option in the settings to display image as baccground. It's always grayed out which seriously makes the pic look crappy. I know I can just use a load of different .tsk files but I don't want to do it that way. I want to be able to change the baccgroud pic at anytime with having it smoked out with some gray transparent layer.
Is the a registry hacc I can do to stop it?
I don't know if there is a registry hack but at least, there is a workaround. Instead of using the today applet to select your background picture, you can use the Pictures & Videos app. Select the picture you like, there is a menu item to set a the selectted picture asToday background just set the transparency level at 0% and you are set
Thanks. Works perfectly.
Glad I helped, but actually you got me thinking. So, I tried to figure out if there was not a way of setting the transparency level via a registry hack as you suggested. I didn't find anything because it's not stored in registry.
What actually happens when you choose a background picture is that wm5 creates 2 pictures (stwater_240_320 and stwater_320_240) in the \windows folder. So instead of relying on the today applet or on the pictures and videos app, what you could do is delete these 2 pictures, then copy your homemade pictures in the \windows folder and rename theme to the above mentionned names. It should let us have a different image when in landscape mode instead of a cropped one. The 240_320 has to be 240x268 and the 320x240 340x188. Why 268 and 188 instead of 320 and 240 ? Because the taskbar and the menubar are 26 pixels wide and (2x26) + 268 = 340 !
All,
Is there a way to do this? All i want is to browse to any picture in my internal storage and set it as a wallpaper on the TF3D Home tab.
I already have the Diamond Wallpaper changer program but pics have to be in a directory right?
Perhaps I've missed something very obvious?!
Thanks
Just go to the settings tab in tf3d, same tab as wifi, bluetooth and other stuff is, there you'll find an option to change the wallpaper aswell
Ha, I knew it was something easy, I'm still used to finding my way with the 'original WM' style interface.
Thanks!
but one thing...you need to downsize pic you want to 320 x 293 so it will look right on your screen.
I just recently bought a Samsung vibrant from t-mobile and i want to set a background of a photo. At first it tells me to crop a certain part of the photo then expands it and looks all pixelated. I searched around and theres this app called "wallpaper set and save" which didnt set the whole image as the background. is there any way of setting a full image as a background and the phone auto adjusts?

Android lets you crop the picture when it's too big. If you touch the edges of the crop square, and drag it out, you can change the size of the cropped area, you might be able to drag it out all the way to encompass the entire image. Also, it shouldn't be pixellating the image unless the resolution is way low, like 170x200 low.

if u want them to fit PERFECT the Image has too be 960x800 i will be makin wallpapers so stay tuned -----here are some of my other i tweaked for the MT3g & Nexus but i was making the nexus 50 pixels larger instead of 960x800 i was making them 960 x850
http://picasaweb.google.com/neffstarr
the image is bigger than the full crop window. so when i try to crop it it crops half the photo and expands it to fit the full screen therefore making it pixelated. its a photo that wasnt taken by the phone btw.
I'm having the same problem. I downloaded some 480x800 wallpapers and when I try to set the wallpaper, it asks me to crop part of the image and does not let you encompass the whole the thing. How are you supposed to set the wallpaper?
As stated above, make the image 960*800.

Ahhh, I see. It works now, thanks a lot!
I still find the whole cropping thing a pain. I had images set at 960X800 but the cropping tool never lets me select it properly. I either end up with a small black band at the top and bottom or I have to under size it. I found this on the Market that lets you just set the image without cropping and it works on the Vibrant: "Application Utility".

Then you're doing it wrong.

i have yet to crop anything and have a wide array of resolutions so far. Wallpaper set and save. get it.
So, with my Fascinate, whenever I try to place a wallpaper, it brings up the cropping tool. But the cropping tool is a square. I turned off wallpaper scrolling, so cropping my screen size by eye using the square is difficult. Is there a tool that let's me crop to native 480x800 or whatever the Fascinate is without using the square?

If you get the Wallpaper Set and Save app, it should fix your issue. Best wallpaper app I've found.
Well... I kinda want something that let's me crop in a rectangular format.
If you're finding the image online, long-press it and select "Set as wallpaper". No cropping necessary
If I want something offcenter, though... I need rectangular crop.
I always crop my wallpapers on my computer first. I highly recommend the GIMP (google it). The crop tool will allow you to crop any image to the exact dimensions you specify.

+1. Gimp is great.
I use GIMP. What's the dimensions of the Fascinate?

I crop to 480 x 800 I think...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
That's if you have the moving wallpaper thing enabled. My whole issue is because I don't. :/
No, the full wallpaper is 960x800. A single screen is 480x800. Although, using a picture of that size still opens the crop tool. You'll need to find an alternate way to set the wallpaper other than long-pressing the home screen.
Edit: I just modified an existing pic I had that was 480x800 and set it in the middle of a 960x800 layer. Choosing it through the normal method and cropping it to the entire pic, gave me a full screen wallpaper in portrait mode. When it flips to landscape, you see an extra 160 pixels on each side, but if you get creative, you can make that look good as well.
Is there an app that I can crop to 480x800 and use WSS to set it, no problem?
There are couple of photo editing apps that crop, PicSay and Photoshop Mobile come to mind. I tried setting a 480x800 pic with WSS, but it expanded it to cover landscape mode and it looked terrible.
I guess you could try a 800x800 wallpaper. That would cover both modes. With movable wallpaper turned off, it would show the middle 480 pixels width-wise and the full 800 length in portrait. In landscape, the full 800 width will show along with the top 480 pixels.
Ah. I don't use landscape, either.
Damn, wish this was easier. They should just make the crop tool a friggin' rectangle. -.-
Thought I'd post this here since people in phone specific forums don't know.. how this is the right place....
With all the flexibility that Android OS is supposed to have, one restriction that is really aggravating me is the wallpaper size contstraint...
Is there any way to get rid of the wallpaper size restriction? My goal basically is to able to make a wallpaper as wide as the amount of screens I have so that when I go to a different screen it looks like a different wallpaper. To see what i mean, take a wallpaper and use 2 home screens only. When you switch between the two, it loads a half of the wallpaper, so if you made one picture with 2 480x800 pictures, it would look like two seperate wallpapers. What I would like to do is use 3 home screens, and a wallpaper created by using 3 480x800 pictures (1440x800), but whenever I try to set a wallpaper it forces me to crop it to a 960x800 area. Can anyone chime in on if this is at all possible?
Thanks!
I believe that it is dependent on the Home Launcher you choose, but there are alternatives.
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture.dnt
It does not appear launcher related. I now tried Launcher, Rosie (sense), ADW, GO Launcher, Zeam Launcher, Launcher Pro, and with all of them when you set the wallpaper it takes you through the default system for setting wallpapers, where you select the wallpaper and then get forced to crop it to a locked aspect ratio.
I'm looking for a way to either change that aspect ratio it forces you to crop your pictures to, or to get rid of it and let the damn picture show as is. I really don't understand how "the most customizable platform" has to have some stupid "this is the only size wallpaper you can use" restriction.
The multilivewallpaper will allow me to use a totally different 480x800 picture on each screen, but it doesn't have a random feature, which is what I really want...
Any devs out there know of a way to change the aspect ratio of that stupid crop tool for setting wallpapers? Or how to get rid of it?
EDIT: Just saw they updated it since last I used it and with multilive you can now have it randomly change. Thanks! Will give it a shot.
EDIT 2: Works like a charm! Never thought about going back to it, so thanks for linking it otherwise I probably would not even have bothered with it again.
