Wallpaper Smoked - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

No matter what .tsk file I use, when I use the option in the settings to display image as baccground. It's always grayed out which seriously makes the pic look crappy. I know I can just use a load of different .tsk files but I don't want to do it that way. I want to be able to change the baccgroud pic at anytime with having it smoked out with some gray transparent layer.
Is the a registry hacc I can do to stop it?

I don't know if there is a registry hack but at least, there is a workaround. Instead of using the today applet to select your background picture, you can use the Pictures & Videos app. Select the picture you like, there is a menu item to set a the selectted picture asToday background just set the transparency level at 0% and you are set

Thanks. Works perfectly.

Glad I helped, but actually you got me thinking. So, I tried to figure out if there was not a way of setting the transparency level via a registry hack as you suggested. I didn't find anything because it's not stored in registry.
What actually happens when you choose a background picture is that wm5 creates 2 pictures (stwater_240_320 and stwater_320_240) in the \windows folder. So instead of relying on the today applet or on the pictures and videos app, what you could do is delete these 2 pictures, then copy your homemade pictures in the \windows folder and rename theme to the above mentionned names. It should let us have a different image when in landscape mode instead of a cropped one. The 240_320 has to be 240x268 and the 320x240 340x188. Why 268 and 188 instead of 320 and 240 ? Because the taskbar and the menubar are 26 pixels wide and (2x26) + 268 = 340 !

How do you make SPB icons

I am using VJDialer (Thanks vijay555) with cLaunch and i want to make some icons so i can use Pocket Plus to launch the dialer nd get rid of cLaunch.
cLaunch allows you to create icons from pictures. How do i go about making the same for SPB. For instance the pic i have below
Cheers
There are 66 different icons in Pocket Plus. To change icon tap and hold it and select Change Icon from pop-up menu. You can also add you own icon to the list. Find "custom16.png" and "custom32.png" in "\Program Files\PocketPlus\Icons" folder on your device. Copy these files to your desktop. Now you can edit these files with any image editor. To add new icon you should create two similar icons of size 16x16 and 32x32 pixels. Add 16x16 icon to the end of the "custom16.png", and add 32x32 icon to the end of the "custom32.png". Make sure that after editing "custom16.png" has height 16 pixels and its width can be divided to 16. Check the same with the "custom32.png" image - its height should be 32 pixels and width can be divided to 32. Copy these files back to "\Program Files\PocketPlus\Icons" folder on your device and perform a soft reset. Now your icon is added to the list and you can use it.
Xilicon, that's a very nice tip there. The built-in icons are OK when using them for apps etc. but when using them with VJDialer and VJSMS you would need different icons for different ppl. There's no point putting a laptop icon for a shortcut that calls my wife!
I'll try this image editing thing tip now ...
kta - I hope the icon is meant to be a phone, not a laptop! I ripped it from XP!
Check this thread for some discussion on how to create the icons:
http://www.modaco.com/Today_Screen_Hacks-t227321.html
and for WAD etc
http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=58236
Basically, to get a cute picture of the wife etc, load a nice photo of her up into an art program, eg paint shop pro.
"Crop" the image as closely as possible to her face: this is going to be reduced to 32x32, so make it recognisable.
"Reduce" the image to 32x32.
Now I would reduce the colour to 256, but that's up to you.
In claunch, you can load the bmps directly; you can make icons using an icon editor, eg Microangelo. On the version I've got, basically, just start a 32x32 XP Colour icon, copy and paste directly from your art prog into Microangelo, and then if you want to, reduce the colours.
Save the .ico and use at will.
Again, for my own nausea, I decided to make a dll full of icons to keep all my images in one file. This can be done with microangelo librarian or Visual Studio if you're really hard core.
For Pocket Plus, just use the png format instead of bmp or ico.
BTW new versions of VJSMS etc coming in the next day or so

I meant the default icons of SPB Pocket Plus not your telephone icon ;-) So what's new in your VJSMS?
OK I've tried the SPB Pocket Plus trick but it seems that it's only allowing 1 extra icon (totalling 67). Anyone managed to create more than just one extra icon?
EDIT: You need to close SPB Pocket Plus and reload before the icons appear in the list!
VJSMS is the same, just a new brother and sister and minor improvements!

'Whitewashed' Background Pictures on the Today screen

I find that when I 'Use this picture as a background' (WM6, Dopod D810) the image appears but it's always 'whitewashed'. By that, I mean it's faded to white - I'd prefer to see the photo in it's full colour with no faded look.
I'm certain that in the early days of WM5 this used to work fine?
Any ideas would be appreciated
use picture & video viewer to find the picture you want to use as your background. tap and hold for the context menu and select "Set as Today Background..." a screen will appear where you can select transparency. set it to 0% and you should be in business!!
Thanks cortezzi, I'll give it a go.
Any idea of XnView Pocket does it? I can't seem to find a 'set as wallpaper' option.
*can't find it*
Also tried out a trial version of Resco Photo Viewer and although it allows me to Save > Use as Home Screen then set the viewable image area and transparency (which I set to 0), however the new wallpaper never appears despite receiving the message 'Picture was correctly set as Today wallpaper'.
Settings > Today shows the background picture is currently set to 'Custom Wallpaper'
Is there a registry hack I can do to stop the default Today settings from adding transparency to new background images?
I had the same problem.. In my case it was caused by the theme I had installed. Try a different theme or modify the one you use.
as helpful as ever....thanks blitzwurst
i tried using a plain colour theme with spb menu but any custom today backgrounds i choose still come out with transparency. how exactly do you suggest i do this? i'm certain that it used to work fine (no transparency) under WM5....
i'm just eager to make use of the great backgrounds another xda user suggested on the Slide2Unlock topic (I think) at http://www.zuned.be !
That Zune site is pretty nice!
In my case I had to get a theme (.tsk) editor and embed the background I wanted into the Theme as opposed to selecting an image from the device to use as a background.
no worries, i might do the same...any recc's on a good theme editor to use?
does it run on the device or on a pc?

OK....Check WIKI

And attempted to search but found nothing. I am the owner of a Dash (Excalibur), but have two friends running Wings and they would like to know how to change around home screens. Ruttensoft and MadBeetle seem to be geared towards different sized screens.
Any software out there to efficiently change the screens?
Go to Settings, then TODAY, then under ITEMS
Apologize for not being more clear. I would like to create my own homescreens
Use any popular photo editing software (Photoshop, Paintshop, even IfranView) and crop/shrink the image to a 320x320 resolution. Send the image to your phone... Menu > Set as Today Background. Set the parameters you like (transparancy and the such) and hit OK.
Unless of course you want to change the colors of your Today screen too... then you'd have to use something like ThemeGen to create a theme from scratch and export it as a .tsk file.
Personally, I just use SKTools. It allows you to change all the colors from within the program. No need to create theme files or anything! Plus you get a much wider range of colors.

when i change the wallpaper of today using the
default option (the box below theme selection)
the wallpaper get whiten (just like the theme set transparency to 30% or so)

Browse to the picture you like to use as wallpaper with the file explorer. Open the picture and choose "Set as Today Background..." with transparency 0%.
use pictures and videos menu,>send to today bckground
change the transparancy there
or use a_cs s2v which is the best free image viewer and save to desktop
that prog allows you to save much higher quality contact pictures as well
Done, thank you very much ^^b

[REQ]Change Launcer Icon Size

Hello,
Can anyone please tell me how to change the program icon size from the launcher tab (not the background squares, but the actual icon)?
I hate some of the stock icons for my programs / scripts, so I replaced them with different icons using the registry, but for some reason it shrinks them down to something like 32x32 or 64x64, the default size everyone has. My plan is to get rid of the background box altogether and go with like a 128x128 icon if possible.
I am not sure if there is a registry setting I am missing or if you have to hex edit a manilla file. I am open to either.
Thanks,
Josh
Not possible...
I may be wrong, because whenever anyone is explaining why something can't be done, they're usually interupted by the person doing it! I think you'll find the image size is hard-coded into Manila. Whatever size you make the image file, it will always be stretched to 'fill' the picture box on the launcher tab
