Video, What am I doing wrong. - HD2 General

I have tried several trials on video converters and no matter what I do I get great picture but the voice is way behind.
How do I get the voice to catch up with the film. ( sorry I know it is not techy language)

I use MediaCoder to transcode video. It's free.
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/
The even got the iPod Edition which u can use for simplicity reason.

Thank you, can you tell me what settings you have used on that programme.

Core player, THE best media player you can get imo.
Will even play .mkv!!!

He is talking about encoding the movie.
You can try Windows Media Encoder (from Microsoft).
It's also free, and does a good job on encoding movies.

hi guys,
i seem to be having the same problem with the whole audio and video out of sync. i have tried a range of format eg. wmv, mp4, 3gp etc but all are about half a second out of sync. i have even tried core player and tmpcp but with no luck. did anybody else have this problem and manage to fix it? any help will be much appreciated

Hello,
I use the HTC Touch HD Video Converter which is very good. He is especially for WVGA 800 x 480 screens, and the quality of the movie is very good.
HTC Touch HD Video Converter v1.21

DVDFab6
I have not (yet) seen the problem with the sound you describe here.
I use DVDFab6 since a while, originally to convert videos to my iPod, but now also to my HD2.
I have a Touch Diamond too, but the screen is a bit too small to watch for longer time and it drains the batteries also very fast. I haven't tried yet fully, but my first tests show me I can do 3-4 hrs of video on one battery and still have enough power left to use it as a phone. Which is very useful if you have to do a lot of short flights.
I use the PS3 settings in DVDFab6 and adjust the display to 800x444 size, depending on the original size. I found that I can not play them directly from Mediaplayer, but if I click on them in the FileExplorer they start playing without any problem.
BTW, also the iPod m4v files play nicely without delays on the HD2

Yeah i have the same problem, the video/audio file is perfect on my pc but about half a second out of each other on my HD2. You can adjust the audio/video sync in core player but it shouldn't be happening in the first place.

hi guys, thanks for your help. i called htc tech support but all they were able to say was perform a hard reset, which sadly didnt fix the problem! even mp4 videos downloaded straight from the net have the same problem. such a shame because apart from that its an amazing phone. will keep trying and post up if i have any luck

I just tried the one that Braakie suggested and although it converted my 700Mb AVI film to a 500Mb MPEG 4 film, when i tried to copy it to my SD card on my HD2 it said the MPEG 4 format wasn't supported. Can someone enlighten me as to what formats are supported and/or what movie player they use.

I'm having the same audio sync issues as others here. I'm encoding using handbrake and when I play it back on the PC it is perfectly in sync. However when I play it back on the HD2 using the HTC video player the audio lags slightly but noticeably behind the video. When I copy it to my wife's Touch HD it plays fine, so it seems to be a problem with the HD2 software.
I'm running the stock Vodafone 1.43 ROM with all hotfixes applied. Will a ROM update fix this? Anyone else with this ROM having/not having this problem?
I'd be very grateful for any input.

Chaps,
Somewhere on XDA is Chainfire's video driver update (or a reference to it) which you should find and install to help overcome the lip synch issue.
If you can't find it using Search...http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q=+site:http://forum.xda-developers.com&hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all then go onto the Modaco site and its there somewhere under the Toshiba TG01 device.
Good hunting.
WB

Thanks for your help - I've found the driver here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592663
However, as far as I can see that's a 3D OpenGL driver and not something that I would expect to affect video/audio synchronisation. Unless, of course, you had the same problem and this fixed it for you? I don't really want to mess about with video drivers unless I'm sure it will fix it.

I was a little dubious and cautious myself but installing the driver did seem to make a difference, sufficient for me not to notice it as much.
Installation is a personal choice. You might want to make a full backup of your device using, say, SPB Backup, before you install. That way you can do hard reset and restore if you don't like the driver.
All the best,
WB

I have the same problem with youtube vids too, just had a replacement hd2, but it's just the same, skyfire, coreplayer, youtube you name it, audio lags the video...
Real pain in the butt for a device who's main feature is a huge screen...!!!

Well I installed the 3D driver, which was easy enough, but unfortunately it made no difference at all to the video/audio sync in either of the two driver modes so I uninstalled it again. (No need for a hard reset, thankfully). I'm using the video in this thread to test since you can easily tell whether it's properly in sync or not.

Oh well, it was worth a try - thanks for the suggestion.

My touch HD video experience

Hi everyone.
I would like to share with you my experience with the touch HD and the settings I use for video playback.
I own both an iphone 3g and a HTC touch HD and set about looking for a piece of software that could encode video once and playback perfectly on both phones.
After many hours of trying various encoding programs I have finally found one that encodes perfectly for both devices and plays in the standard HTC media player. Best of all its free!!
The software I use is called Freestar ipod video converter and the settings I use are as follows..
Select the device as iphone and under advanced settings alter the video quality to 512. Its as simple as that!
I have encoded around 30 movies using various source code from DVD rips to divx/xvid and have had no problems at all. All the videos have played perfectly on both the iphone 3g and the HTC touch HD.
Hope this helps in some way.
Richard
Thanks for sharing. I'm interested in looking into this. I've tried super.. and can't figure out how to START the conversion (am I an idiot???) I've tried the purpose build HD encoder program I found on here and it doens't seem to make ANY different to my player. I'd be interested in checking this process out.
Regards,
BANE
The only problem I have is shutting down the software after it has finished converting, I am using Vista 32 bit and have to go through task manager to close the program.
Other than that small issue I find the software really easy to use. Simply click add and browse to the file you want to convert then click convert.
It averages around 13 to 15 minutes to convert a full length movie on my machine. Q6600,4GB ram,8800gtx.
Cheers.....Richard
Exciting! I too have yet to find the solution that works. I note that Freestar takes the VOB files as input rther than IFO files. Can I ask how you concatanate the converted files together to make one seamless movie when the various VOBs have been converted?

Drag your media file into the bottom section of Super, once there choose your settings for encode etc then make your the file in the bottom section is "ticked" and click encode - should work.. Think default output location is program files\super or summit like that..
I'm not joking... but I don't seem to have an ENCODE buttone. Out of curiosity, could you please tell me exactly where this button is on your program so i can make sure it's not staring me in the face??
Thanks

I use a program called videoredoplus to concatenate mpg (and vob) files which streamcopies as oppposed to recodes. Concatenate before recoding (with anything) for the best quality results

It even has a device profile for the HD and it works perfectly. I use it on a Vista 64 Ultimate system and have had no problems. They offer a 7 day full feature trial download. My 8 core Xeon system can do a 1:45 movie in 17 minutes in HQ mode!
Very impressive and easy to use UI. Three things needed to configure it is to tell it that you have a Touch HD (HQ mode preferred), where to put the file (unless you want the default location) and press "GO". It's that easy. $19.95 USD is a bargain.

^^ its a **** program.
I used a trial to convert a HD film to that 800x480 and just picked the profile HTC HD (HQ) and the film is unwatchable.
Got a benchmark of 54%.
In the end, i guess it doesn't come down to the program but the device.
This is getting ridiculous!

A little harsh but I tend to agree with this sentiment after doing a couple of flics.. perhaps it's virtues lie somewhere yet to be discovered.
I use the ipod me video converter in the maximum resolution and in the options - slow, quality and the videos in the touch HD play perfect.
And it also allows to use subtitles (srt) (The encoder in this forum also works but it doesn't allow subtitles and sometimes I have sound issues...)

Strange, I have burned several movies and just selected the HD (HQ) profile and changed nothing else (defaults for everything except for conversion priortiy, I set that to Very High, as I have an 8 core Xeon with 32GB of RAM and therefore get 17-18 minute conversions) and it views perfectly. What player are you using? I am using the standard, built in Windows Media Player and get superb results.
Try it again with WMP and let me know what results you get.
Gordo
what do you mean with HTC built in media player? The windows mobile media player? That's one of the worst players in my opinion.

I have to say that I'm watching a full length vid now on my HTC Touch HD having used DVD Catalyst 3 on trial and it is perfect in both WMP and Album player (I don't really see any difference.)
I've not had any sucess previously with Super Converter no matter what setting I tried, yet with this, as Gordo said, just set it running with the default settings for the HTC and it converted seamlessly.
Most impressed and I think I shall be buying this one after the trial.
Trixter: Thank you very much for the screen shot. I can confirm that those buttons do NOT show up in the build I have :S (can't recall which build it is offhand) Weird.
And is it just me or is it really difficult to find this for download? I go to their site download page, but end up navigating in circles :S

I beg to differ. While the UI sucks somewhat, I found WMP to sound better than Coreplayer (after tweaking it for hours!) and Pocketplayer. This is true with both my Shure SE530's and my Moto S9-HD's.
Here is a link to a video I shot with my son's Flip video camera so the quality is not perfect. I could not get close enough and keep the Touch HD in focus and let you see how clean the movie is. As I said in my earlier posts, DVDCatalyst and WMP work together perfectly.
Right click this link and do a "save as".

...at last!
Fabulous! Having tried many of the solutions available, this is the first one that takes a real DVD (as opposed to a video file) and extracts and encodes the file to a size that allows playback on the Touch HD without stuttering.
Belive me, I've tried many solutions but this is not only effective, it's incredibly easy to use!
I recommend everyone to give it a try. I shall be paying. I've spent more time and money trying to get video to work on the Touch HD that the price seems lke a brgain now even though it might not have done when I started the process.
ok, update. Thankfully now SUPER encoder WORKS. IE the ENCODE NOW button and the rest of the buttons at the bottom have appeared.
I'm running a Vaio UX280P as my main computer, and whether it's to do with changing my poser setting from MAXIMUM BATTERY to Desktop use, or the fact that my resolution is higher when I plug it into an external monitor, It's worked.
I encoded a movie today and it not only works a treat, it did it in a pretty decent amount of time. My past experience with encoding stuff took HOURS!
Anywa, seems like a great program now i've had the chance to use it.

media woes!!

ok well im slowly getting to grips with my touch, now obviously it comes with windows media player, i have also installed core player.
on my pc i have total video convertor and pocket divx convertor. which program should i be using to convert various avi's that i have to get the best quality, what format should i be converting into, and what program should i be using on my touch to watch them, iv had a few attempts and everything i convert seems to come out rather jumpy etc and just not good to watch.
thankyou.
Please use the search function or atleast google. This has been addressed many times over. In fact, it's been discussed so much that several great xda members have even made various programs/applications which will convert whatever input to an output which performs best on the HD. Most of these are in the Applications part of the Blackstone forum.
In a nutshell, the built in TF3D player is the best way to go since it's the only player which uses hardware acceleration and will give best results when playing mp4.
sincere apologies, i was just being lazy
will search now and delete core player lol
Hello pugme
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112 and download this free video converter it’s the best one out there. The Touch HD has its own player and the quality of these 2 apps together is superb. If you put the converted films on to your sd card in a folder called films or what ever you want then start/programs/album/albums/storage card/films then select to play or add albums to your programs short cut.
Quality when watching is like half hd
use Duttys ROM with coreplayer i can play pretty much anything i want without jumping, dont get me wrong the converting programs on here are very good but why convert if you dont have too!

media player

since everyone is telling (youtube etc) that the buildt in mp is crap.
who has a better one?

the built in player is excellent for things that are encoded for it. beautiful quality
anything else use coreplayer.

I used coreplayer on my tytn2 but it won't run on my touch pro 2 it fails to start everytime ????
just downloaded an ipod movies .mp4 video and all it shows up as on the built in media player is perfect sound but a green screen ??? why is it so hard to play video's on my phone
I'm using Coreplayer 1.3.2 Build 6909 for ARM atm on my TP2. Had no problem with the install, and it runs all my Xvid/DivX movies just fine.
Mediaplayer, wont show any files in its library so i stopped using that, for music I'm using that crappy Touchflo player (library is too limited for me)
For Vid's I really recommend you to use Coreplayer, it plays music as well, although I haven't tried that yet
just looked at their site and they want me to pay $29 for it !!!! it may be annoying not to be able to watch certain movies on my phone but it isn't worth parting with the much money. I used TCPMP player previously before it became commercially Coreplayer, it worked on my tytn and it was free, since it's become commercial I guess it's no longer an option.
MP4 Player fix for TP2 PLEASE!?
I'd just like to take this moment to say AHHHHHH!!! I'm about to pull what little hair i have left OUT!!
Ok... I've dug through 1000s of sites and forums, 100s of downloads, installs, uninstalls onto memory card and or directly onto my phone. Downloaded even directly to Desktop computer to open / transfer / unzip to removable, then active sync, drag drops, etc... etc...etc...
I had a good TCPMP Player on my winMo5.0 phone that lasted me the last couple years. Now on TP2 WinMo6.1 It doesnt work and i FINALLY found a new one to download and hear people DO have it working on theirs while others don't.... the player they sent with the device beyond sucks!! and I am unable to view flash on the fly..
I even PAID for the download and recieved NO help whatsoever so I'm here after a YEAR of great advice from you all...
I downloaded TCPMP.pocketPC.0.72rc1,
ran the .cab and all seemed to work correctly and even have the shortcut in my programs.. I click on it and receive this pop open:
::::Unexpected program failure. Please send "crash.txt" to the developers. Program will now exit::::
I read some on people saying there is a fix or an add.. please help this long term beginner... PLEASE... I would pay if anYONE could make this simple.. I need to use my phone and cant risk dinking around tOO much with it.
AnYthInG... PLEASE?!?!
gOOOD mp4 player that has been tested and you can walk me through step by step
OR if Im to use the player on the phone currently, how can I create an option for it to auto replay until I can fix the TCPMP so I can move smoothly through the frames
GREATLY appRecIated in AdvAnCe!!!
Which Coreplayer version for us?
I see there are 2 arm versions of coreplayer. For the TP2, would I get the "Pocket PC / Arm" or "Smartphone / Arm" version? Both say they are for Windows Mobile.

This forum does have a search facility, you know. Had you considered using it?
Download the version of TCPMP that you'll find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3275845&postcount=172
Then go into the Settings screen, the DirectDraw page, and tick the box that says "use blitting instead of overlay".

Coreplayer

Im starting to get the feeling my phone never came with it. I can't find it anywhere.. does anyone know where it should be? Even a directory location would be helpful but i've searched the phone from top to bottom looking for it
coreplayer is not included software for htc hd2 (as far as i know)
Its not included, you can get it from http://coreplayer.com/
While I get 158% on benchmark and it plays really smoothly (in the benchmark) it then judders and is useless when not in benchmark mode, so I wouldn't bother with it...
I am having problems installing Coreplayer. Running the purchased pocketpc cab file it tells me my hardware isn't supported. I have been in touch with Coreplayer (who take at least 24 hours to respond) and all they can tell me is I need to use the pocketpc version, this is what I am using. I've paid for this and it won't run on my phone even after factory resetting, I'm getting frustrated now after 3 days of trying.
Has anybody else had problems? Are there any possible solutions such that I can install it?
Any help gratefully received
Ah cheers guys. I hate video reviews that show apps and claim that they come with the phone lol. Yeah i'm not reading great things about it though so I deffo wont be purchasing it.
It's working just fine with me, make sure you set GDI as video output.
Coreplayer works fine on mine... although it doesnt rotate or follow the GUI like it used to on my omnia.
This seems to be a failing throughout the interface... the rotation doesnt follow the device.
Is there any way to fix this
GG
Direct Draw seems better than GDI on mine, wierd
Coreplayer installs and works fine, however i am unable to enable A2DP functionality with with my headset. It recognises volume control but not pause, Forward or backward.
However i think this is a device issue, as i've tried installing S2P and it does exactly the same thing!
Anyone have any ideas?
I have the feeling that the image quality on HD with QTV enabled on Coreplayer is better when playing the same file on HD2 with GDI or RAW FB.
Anybody can confirm ?
I just found this thread and wanted to thank tnyynt as I had been using Coreplayer with the default DirectDraw setting and the playback wasn't so great but changed to GDI and it surpasses my Archos 5 IMT. Top stuff.
So GDI is better than DirectDraw ? haven't noticed any difference, at least for me. Although GDI takes advantage of hardware acceleration at some points.
In scenes where the camera was panning sideways with Directdraw you could see the image kind of wobble as it redrew the picture from top to bottom but with GDI selected this no longer happens. Much smoother playback of XviD's for me.
Can you guys please post details of the verions of Coreplayer you are using?
I ask I was 'acquired' a copy of v1.3.2 to test and it seemed fine. I then went and purchased a copy (latest - v1.13.6) however on installing this it seems dreadful no matter what settings I used.
Not sure if this is something to do with me uninstalling one version then installing another, or a ROM upgrade etc, however just wanted to check.
Cheers, Simon
CorePlayer v1.3.6 on HD2 only 50% qality rending any video !!!
The video image quality on HD2 with CorePlayer v1.3.6 GDI or RAW is lower with 50% !!! When playing the same file on HD2 with HTCvideoPlayer video image is the best !!!

Please try this video: in sync on PC, out of sync on HD2

The attached very short video clip plays perfectly in sync (watch the drumsticks!) on my PC and on my wife's Touch HD, but is not in sync on my HD2 using the HTC video player.
The problem must therefore lie not with the video encoding, but with the HD2.
Please tell me if it is in sync or not on your HD2, and what ROM you are using so that I'll know if a ROM update might fix it. I'm using the stock 1.43 Vodafone UK ROM with all 4 hotfixes applied.
I really would appreciate any help in solving this issue since it's happening with nearly all my .mp4 videos on the HD2. The problem does not occur with .wmv files but I'd rather use .mp4 if I can.
Thanks.
Tested. Indeed it is a touch out of sync, playing with wmp.
deffo out of sync with vlc. really quite unnerving.
With CorePlayer out of sync, too.
Thanks for the feedback guys.
I've just flashed from stock Vodafone 1.43 ROM to Miri's WM65_21889_Sense25_V2.0 ROM (highly recommended), which is based on the 1.61 ROM and it's still out of sync. I've therefore sent a support request to HTC who are going to test it out on various devices and get back to my by the end of the week.
I'll let you know what they say. I've told them it's affecting other people too, so hopefully they won't just suggest a hard reset.
Confirmed: sound and video out of synch in HTCAlbum, WMP and CorePlayer. I'm running the t-mobile version of 1.43 with camera hotfix.
Is this video recorded via the phone or something else?
There have been cases where videos are encoded improperly, they play fine on PCs, but go OOS on hardware based players....several scene dvdrips have been subjected to such an error before.

Ripped from DVD using SPB Mobile DVD, and then converted to .mp4 using Handbrake. This plays fine on the Touch HD, so there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't play fine on the HD2. It's not an exception either - almost all my .mp4 videos are very slightly out of sync. Most of the time you can't tell - you need something like the drumsticks to know for sure if it's in sync or not.
Hopefully I'll get an update tomorrow from HTC support, but I'm not holding my breath for a fix.
This needs sorting out, i've been using winmenc to compensate for the syn issue but this morning i played Harry Brown on it and it is still out of sync. Maybe this rip works ok without the sync fix, will have to see tonight
sync is fine on my Touch HD, very odd it doesnt play properly on the HD2
HTC need to take note of this, i'm surprised that more members haven't reported this complaint. There are 3 threads about it, i would expect an issue like this to have many many pages

Yep, in sync on pc mashed up on hd2. I'm going to email HTC now with all this info, i urge everyone else does also
I noticed this using DivX a month or two ago, I stopped using video files after that. But I installed TCPMP last night and played The Hurt Locker on it, the audio seems to be more or less in sync, not perfect but certainly not the one or two seconds out of sync that is was on the DivX Player.
I have had audio and video sync issues on all my HTC devices, I just assumed it was due to the lack of processing power. But the HD2, that shouldn't struggle surely?

I am sure if I tinkered with the audio/video sync in TCPMP I could get it in sync, but it is bloody annoying. I might actually have a play now, see if I can actually get it perfectly in sync.
*Edit* Seems to work just fine without doing anything, on Windows Media Player and TCPMP.
I used a clip of The Hurt Locker and it seems to work just fine, as does the whole film.
The file I used.

that's not an issue. It's easy to get into sync in coreplayer (and probably TCPMP) the problem with those players is that they judder/drop frames so to me it is not usable no matter what settings you use.
I edited my last post, maybe it's just a Coreplayer/DivX player issue?
