Ive tried searching now for about 2 hours for a fix.
Ive just installed windows 7 x64 pro and i can not get it to work with my HD. It will not recognize it at all. Ive had various problems, always seems different.
Ive tried turning off the enable fast data. This changed the problem, but didnt fix it.
At the moment, i have that enabled and the problem from what i can tell is, in device manager Microsoft Windows Remote Adapter is not working.
If i disable fast data, i get a connecting to host message on my HD screen and nothing else really happens.
Ive tried updating the USB drivers, but that will not work, something to do with unsigned drivers.
Under mobile devices in device manager i get PocketPC USB Sync instead of the HTC usb Sync thing.
Is there a solution for this please?
With me it worked on windows 7x64 straight out of the box. I suggest re-installing win 7.
I'd have to agree, using Windows x64 Professional here and both my Touch HD and my partners work fine (I had to allow Windows to download an updated version of Windows Mobile Device Center first though).
I do not suggest reinstalling Win 7. Geez. Sorry, but that's using an axe to trim a toenail.
Try downloading and reinstall the x64 version of Windows Mobile Device Center. Make sure you get version 6.1. Do not download any driver updates meant for Vista - you don't need them. But this main file will be marked Vista - it includes you too.
Next, it's possible that when you first plugged in the blackstone, a driver install got canceled or didn't happen right. Use your hardware manager and look for any new generic devices or HID devices. You can try deleting the hardware from the list and asking device manager to look again.
MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER.
Good luck.
Installed windows 7 last week.... i mainly use this pc at home and at work i use XP.
Anyway just connected it now to my notebook and after some driver downloads from windows the phone works fine...
make sure u download the latest mobile device center.
I had the same with my Topaz and windows 7. The fix was to disable the windows firewall while syncing.
This solved my sync problems with Windows 7 ultimate x64
Open notepad
write the text : net localgroup Administrators LocalService /add
save the file as e.g. HTC.bat somewhere on your hard drive where you can find it
Locate with Windows Explorer the .Bat file you just edited
Rightclick on the bat fil
select "run as administrator"
restart your computer. Your HTCH Touch HD should connect without problems

hello!
i just installed a fresh new copy of Windows Vista x86 Build 5600 and I've realized that Windows Mobile Device Center isn't installed.
I've searched and at Microsoft I've downloaded a file: drvupdate-x86.msi which appears on Control Panel as Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update!
Well, It's not the program, is it??? I instalde Driver Update but I don't seem to install the Program at all!
I've searched on XDA and I've found some tips, which I've tried with no result!
Add Key to registry at HKLM\Software\Microsoft named WHOS. it's supposed when I plug USB cable to PC and Universal, appear on Windows upgrade saying there is a new upgrade available. Doesnt appear!
I've seen a topic saying:
"...Yes I have it working with both USB / BT :=)
Try this procedure.
1. Download this file.
http://www.download.windowsupdate.co...bc9 4587a.exe
2. Extract it using winrar. This will give you a file "wmupdate.msi"
3. Now be sure to logon to Vista as the built in admin and run "wmupdate.msi" and after that reboot and again login as built in admin, let it complete the install.
4.Login as your regular user, connect you phone and all should work:=)"
Downloaded the file and done all right but I dont seam to make it work!
I've ONCE installed WMDC with no errors but the device appeared "NOT CONNECTED".
Now, after a NEW fresh instalation, I cant even install WMDc!
Please help!
I would like to keep vista installed, but without sync there's no way!!!!

Im having a big headache here, I have windows vista enterprise edition (the release version) and i downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center from microsoft. My problem is when ever I try to connect the device, windows installs HTC usb sync and after that I get another message saying I need to install drivers for a "unknown device" I went to device manager and sure enough somehow this "unknown device" is related to my phone, It askes to look for drivers and can not find any. Anyway, this is somehow creating a problem because I can not connect the phone with WMDC.
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Similar problems here with Vista Ultimte RTM. You can also watch here for some answers.

A couple weeks ago I tried to sync my Cingular 8525 but had no luck, Vista managed to find and install some HTC drivers, but I couldn't get active sync to work (mobile device center now in vista). But I could browse the files on the device. Then just today I went into device manager and manually told it to look for new drivers online, it did, found some, and installed them, then mobile device center started working and I could sync. Wahoo!

This just happened to me today after using wmdc on vista business for 2 months. now my device comes up as "uknow device" in the device manager and then a few seconds later I get a popup window telling me that my USB device is unknown.
Damn annoying. im trying to figure out what happened and if i cant, then ill reinstall windows vista. bloody M$ crap.
when Vista prompt u for installing the driver, you have to manually select the driver location! Select driver directory to the Windows directory... Then Vista will be able to locate and loaded the device driver... i tried it works...
good luck

it was working fine for 2 months so I assume the correct drivers were installed. nonetheless, i will try update the driver for "unknown device" if I can find the inf file in the windows directory.
i tried it,
it says that my "Unknown Device" in the USB controllers category has the latest drivers installed.
this is too funny.
not sure what went wrong here.
Ive also uninstalled wmdc and reinstalled it many times and still no luck.
hrrrmmmmm, i feel a format and image coming up soon.
OK, i have solved the problem.
who would have thought I had 2 faulty sync-charge cables. They worked on Sunday and stopped working on Monday.
I noticed this happened after I used WM5torage. This is strange.
Anyways, things are back to normal
I have been sync with Windows Vista Ultimate both USB and Bluetooth for weeks. Especially the Bluetooth works great both sync and install software!!

To pull this off you will need a second account on your Vista machine.
Click start and >> switch user. Login to your alternate windows profile.
Run WMDC. You will notice that it works on this profile. Once it finds your device, log off switch back to your main profile.
In my case this allowed WMDC to continue recognising my device and synchronisation worked fine.
i found this after more than a day on forums!
Be aware that Vista SP1 has apparently created some underlying USB problems from time to time. There's no known fix as yet, but I found that at some point after applying SP1 (32-bit version), my existing USB stuff worked, but any "new" device would not install. Turns out that the INFCACHE.1 file got corrupted as well as several of the USB-related .INF files, and since these files tell Vista how to modify the registry and where to place specific driver modules, you're pretty much toast. You can search Microsoft's Knowledge Base and see what they are saying about USB driver/INF corruption. OBTW, do not try to simply copy the "missing" .INF files into \Windows\INF - that does NOT work in all cases. Unfortunately for me, I had to completely reimage my machine. After that, I've not had any problems (fingers crossed).
I installed win 7 to try it, but when I plug in my phone nothing happens, ActiveSync is not starting....do I need new drivers if so, where do I find them... I have HTC Elf0100
There is a know issue with windows 7 Mobil device manager. You didn't say if you were 32bit or 64bit. But go to the Microsoft site, grab either the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows Mobil Device manager 6.1. They just updated it to 6.1 install it, once done, launch Mobil Device Manager and THEN plug your phone in. I just went through this last night. I run Windows 7 64bit and in order to get it to work, I had to grab the updated version. Nice thing is that Windows even loaded a pic of the Elf into the App so when it loads, it shows you an HTC Touch Elf.
Just use windows update - all drivers will be installed automaticaly.
Running Windows 7, I had updated that morning according to Microsoft Update which updates windows and all related software. I was up to date, but it had not updated Windows Mobile Device Manager.
You must run winupdate only after you connect your touch to pc. After that winupdate will found 11mb update for your HTC device. Install it and be happy
I dowloaded updated version of WMDM and it works now...thnx
Just download the Vista Windows Device Centre 6.1 from here; http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
Hope this helps
Mobile Device Center showed "No device Connected" or something like that. When I checked out devices I saw "Generic RNDIS" with that yellow exclamation mark icon suggesting a problem. I let win7 do its' magical "I'll fix it" thing and it downloaded some driver, installed it and voila.
I'm on W7 and i haven't any problem :\
I am running Win 7 x64 ultimate. I have a AT&T S3. I have tried every port on my laptop. I have updated Kies. I have tried the drivers from here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I747MBBATT. I can't get the 'Samsung Mobile MTP device' to install correctly. Can anyone help?

If you installed the drivers and restarted your computer, just open Odin and plug phone in while on (NOT DOWNLOAD MODE/ JUST HAVE ODIN OPEN) let computer recognize your phone(Install drivers) then shut down Odin and you should be ready to go
Thanks for the reply. However, this did not work. I should be able to connect to a PC to transfer files but I can't. I have now tried this on two other PC's (another Win 7 ultimate and a Win XP SP3). Watching device manager, it seems like the driver is ok for a minute (i.e. not yellow exclamation mark) and then it pops up. On the XP machine, I just tried to let Windows find the driver (i.e. I didn't dowload it from Samsung) every 30 seconds or so Windows just keeps popping up with the 'found new hardware' message. I am getting error 'code 10' saying the driver can't start. In a virtual machine, I tried another Win XP SP3 in which I did install the Samsung drivers and I got an error saying that the device wasn't found in the INF file. There are alot of subdirectories inside the Samsung USB driver folder, does anyone know which driver should be installed for this? I want to manually try to install it.

I had the same problem as you. Guess what fixed it? Using a different usb port on the same machine. Weird, I know, but it worked for me though I have no idea why that would make a difference

Been there done that it didn't work. I did a factory reset and it worked on this XP pc I am using at work. I'll try it on Win 7 when I get home. I didn't let google download all my apps this time to try to keep the phone clean. Before I had Launcher Pro (didn't use it though) and ADWLauncher Ex (I did use this one) both of which are home screen launchers. I don't know if something with ADWLauncher messed something up with the USB debug or what. This XP machine was behaving like USB debug wasn't checked when it was. About every 60 seconds it would detect the MTP device but I never could actually browse the phone.
I had the same problem. I switched cables and uninstallEd/ reinstalled the drivers. One of those fixed it for me
