I have rooted my evo using unrevoked 3 and then removed most of sprint bloatware. Now i cannot complete my OTA update. Any help on reinstalling sprint bloatware would be greatly appreciated!
Could the problem be something other than the bloatware removal?
YEP I think the problem has a LOT to do with the user...
OH YA and...
FIRST!
Why not just flash a ROM that already has the update? You could flash my ROM it is up to date.
Hi!
A friend of mine has this device and he wants to have Froyo installed, I believe he still has the factory installed version it came with the phone (I think is version 1.6 or 1.8).
I have a Samsung Captivate and upgraded very easily to Froyo using Odin and the Cognition ROM.
Can anyone point me to a thread that has an easy (beginner to intermediate) way to upgrade the MyTouch 3G to Froyo?
Thanks!
If it is an original MyTouch(without the 3.5mm jack) then the easiest way would be to wait for the OTA update from T-mobile. If your friend doesn't want to wait then check out this thread: Manually update MyTouch to stock Froyo
What about updating an unlocked MT 3G? Will updating to Froyo relock the phone?
Yes, is a original (untouched) myTouch 3G....
I read that it will come OTA, but he haven't seen anything yet on his phone.
Thanks

does it have a 3.5mm jack or not?
I found a forum a few minutes ago that stated that HTC was rolling out the FroYo update for the Aria. I am happily rooted and running FR008 (thanks attn1!) and have no interest in the update. I like my hotspot app, use it every day.
Will this update happen without my consent? How do I avoid this intrusive measure?
(A co-worker who owns an Evo recently lost his hotspot app when he got an update from Sprint...he is LIVID because Sprint requires $ to enable tethering.)
Go to settings>About Phone>System software updates>uncheck
I don't believe you will be prompted to update your phone since you aren't on the stock firmware (or one of the Liberated Eclair ROMs that were based on it).
Even if you were using stock firmware, it is not forced on you -- you are prompted on whether you want to update. I imagine your friend accepted the update without realizing that it would cause his hotspot app to stop working.
Just curious, what forum did you find this information at?

Yeah I'd like to know that too, because as far as we know HTC only started rolling out the OTA update on Asia
far as i know its only Asia getting the OTA, and drumist is correct, you will not recieve any official updates while running a custom ROM
Wouldn't the OTA update come to the phone via the carrier and not from HTC directly? I thought that if the phone is rooted then the carrier could no longer push an update.

also correct, updates come from the SP. for N America that would be ATT.
if the phone is rooted and running cutom ROM it will not recieve the notice
My friend recently got an Htc Evo 4g and he found out it was flashed to Metro PCS which he did not want, so is there anyway to flash it back to Sprint?

you might want to find out..
have you looked at the process to make an evo work on metro? it might shed some more light on how to go back

I have not.... was hoping for a simple process to flashing it back to sprint =/ but i'll take a look into that then.
I found that the Evo, my friend has is not rooted and has the 2.3.3 update, I've read to unflash the phone back to sprint i would have to flash a stock ROM that contains the Sprint ESN. but the problem is can a 2.3.3 Evo be rooted at least get CWM on it to flash the stock ROM? anyway around this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First I would find out with sprint if the esn is good.

an Evo flashed to MPCS is likely going to have a bad ESN and will not be able to be activated on Sprint again, hence the reason that phone was probably sold (or was stolen). However, that's not guaranteed. Definitely need to call up Sprint and check the ESN/MEID, or try this website http://www.checkesnfree.com/index.html, no clue if it really works though.
The ESN has not been changed on the device at all. The rom has nothing to do with the carrier. The phone can have whatever rom you desire on it and work on Sprint, MetroPCS, or Cricket if flashed properly. No ESN change necessary.
Btw, if that phone has the 2.3.3 update on it already then it IS a stock Sprint rom, and you won't be flashing other roms to that phone since the boot loader is going to be locked.
However, this should not stop you from being able to put the phone in diagnostic mode and flash the phone back to Sprint using QPST or some other phone flashing software.

Thanks for the response, and yes, the phone was sold to my friend which he later found out it was flashed to Metro PCS, and since the phone is on 2.3.3 the last option would be to call sprint and see if anything can be done.
I have the htc evo and ive tried to update it , but it will not. It has version 2.2 and ive called sprint to have them Push these updates, but they said that they dont have them available. Can someone please give me some guidance. My phone is not rooted and i don't want it update right now , i just want to update to the most recent version of the software. Thanks.
Search for the stock unrooted 4.54 ota ruu and flash it thru hboot or push it from ur pc I'm on my phone or id link u, but Google is your friend. Personally is just root it with unrevoked forever and then flash a rooted stock Rom but that's just me I like my phone to be "my" phone and not sprints
