Backing up complete Hero rom for restoring? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I have a hero rom running and have some customizations done to it that I would like to save for restoring if needed.
I have System Recovery of: CyanogenMod v1.4 + JF
How can I make a backup of my existing ROM for re-flashing?
Found Something:
You need switchrom.sh - try searching in the dream forum for more details!
It is on Amon_RA's latest recovery image. Basically connect usb, boot into recovery, do an 'adb shell' and type switchrom in the shell, and follow the instructions. It uses nandroid AND backs up any ext partition, and gives an easy path back if you need to restore. Very handy if you hop between roms a lot!

Magic aint working

Hey!
I tried flashing a Hero rom to my HTC Magic this evening, but after flashing the phone just froze at the HTC Magic screen, it didnt reboot, it just froze.
I then tried to boot in the recovery menu, and install a earlier version of cyanogen, that i know have worked on my phone before. But the same happens, the phone just freeze at the HTC Magic screen, and nothing happens.
I have a Magic 32A
Hope that anyone here can help me, dont know what i need to do to get it working again.
1.) wrong section
2.) do you have a nandroid backup ?
1) Sorry, maybe an moderator can move the thread to the proper forum
2) Yes i have a Nandroid backup on my computer. I have tried taking that nandroid and copying it to a spare SDcard i have, and then boot in recovery and then choose Nandroid Restore, but i keeps saying : Error performing restore! Try running 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore' from console.
Dont know what that means
So i guess i dont have a nandroid backup, or not a working nandroid
Any ideas?

Did you rename your Nandroid backup from the original name? If so then this can cause problems when you try to restore.
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
boot to fastboot and put your nadroid system.img data.img boot.img files inside sdk tools folder
and open cmd and copy paste above

Restore a Data.img from nandroid backup? SOLVED

Never done this before, but is it possible to restore just the data.img bit from a nandroid after flashing new ROM? Obviously boing a full nandroid restore will wipe the ROM just installed won't it.
everytime I upgrade the latest CM Rom, I get an error unless I do a full wipe which is a pain.
so can I flash the data bit from the nandroid I did just before installing the new ROM?
If so is this the right command
fastboot flash data data.img
To answer my own Question - YES. I only ever used nandroid to restore back to a full working ROM after a Fail.
So - in case it helps anyone else
Get the nandroid that you did before the wipe and ROM Update.
Put the data.img file into the tools folder of your SDKfolder
Boot into Fastboot and connect so you see Fastboot USB on the phone.
in command prompt type
fastboot devices (just to make sure it sees your phone)
fastboot flash userdata data.img
Then reboot the fone. Voila - you should have your homescreens etc all back to how they would be if you hadn't wiped

question after root and custom roms

I have a few questions which I am a little unclear after rooting my Eris:
What is the purpose of partition sdcard option on the Android Sys Recovery Menu? Within it, there are 4 options and what are they?
is Nand backup sufficient or do I need Nand + ext backup? I am getting an error when running Nand + ext.
When installing custom rom, do I have to do the amon's recovery image step or do I just boot the phone with the system recovery, wipe and flash zip from sdcard?
Thanks.
Aman Ra replaces the default recovery. IE when you hold volume up while powering on you are in Aman Ra, this will be a permanent change unless you unroot I think. Essentially as long as you installed it when you rooted, you never install it again.
The partitions are used for Apps2SD. as is the ext partitions. Unless your using Apps2SD you only need to do a nand backup. Once you start using Apps2SD you will want to do both.
Lastly often enough when a nand+ext back up will not work, it is because you are missing a /sys/sd folder.
thx for the info
I got it now, so for installing custom rom, all I have to do is boot to the recovery, do a wipe, flash sd card. I am glad I rooted

[Q] How to restore a nandroid backup?

Hi,
I recently tried to install the new Gingerbread keyboard (provided by droid life) on my rooted 2.2 Legend. Now when I boot up my phone it stays stuck on the initial HTC loading screen.
I did do a nandroid backup before installing the replacement keyboard. How exactly do I recover that backup? I am able to go into recovery mode, but I'm not sure what to do from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
EDIT: So I remembered I have to use recovery-windows.bat to get to the recovery menu. So I did that but when I try to do a Nand restore I get the following error:
"E:Couldn't open directory /sdcard/nandroid/backup"
Any idea what the problem may be?
Do you have clockworkmod installed on your sdcard ?

Install ROM Manager, it should be able to restore your ROM! If not check you have all the files here: /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/xxxx-xx-xx.xx.xx.xx - date of backup:
Code:
boot.img
cache.img
data.img
recovery.img
system.img
nandroid.md5
Thank guys, I figured it out
Some weeks ago a tried a nandroid restore on my Legend using MDJ ROM with ext sd partition (around 500mb) but I had no success. I did a simple restore from the recover menu.
My doubt was that nandroid does not back up the ext partition but in effect I see that the back up file contain a file "sd-ext.img" which should be problably my external back up. Then when I have restored Legend has stucked with boot logo e didn't completed the power on sequence. I had to reinstall and configure (partially as I use Mybackup).
Please, do you know the correct procedure how to completely restore such type of ROMS using ext sd memory?
Thank you

[Q] Stuck while flashing kitkat 4.4 on nexus 4

Hi,
so i followed the steps to flash android on my nexus using ClockworkMod recovery.
I did the following steps and now I am stuck. my phone wouldn't load and I cant do anything about it
1. Bootloader was unlocked and I installed the clockworkmod recovery.
2. backed up my phone
3. I copied the ROM zip file to storage of the phone. (I cant find it through recovery now)
4. rebooted into recovery mode
5. did the nAndroid backup (which is not working now and hence my phone is spoiled)
6. performed complete wipe of the device including factory reset, cache partition and dalvik cache.
the problem is that I cant restore the nAndroid backup which i created using the recovery any more. I also tried mounting the USB storage using recovery but it still doesn't work.
I am also not able to see the phone as a Storage device in my computer any more otherwise I could load the ROM file again and try.
Please suggest any ideas or solutions.

Okay, first what rom are you flashing. And did you do a factory reset in the recovery before you flash it?
By flashing in custom recovery means you are flashing an unofficial version of KitKat, because normal you use fastboot method to flash the factory image from Google. Try using this stock rom from fireb33: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010887
Secondly, did you flash the latest version of CWM recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198942
If you used latest recoveries and factory reset, and it still doesn't boot, then backup your nandroid and use the fastboot method to flash the factory stock image (link in my sig).
To backup your nandroid, you need to locate where it is and use "adb pull" command, try this: adb pull /data/media/clockworkmod/ C:\backup\
The MD5 mismatch means your file is not original or corrupt, it could be due to various reasons.
Nexus devices do not have microSD card so they cannot use the mount USB storage feature.
I am willing to bet most of your issues could be avoided by using TWRP recovery instead of CWM. Get it here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/mako, flash it in fastboot by "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img", it is not compatible with CWM nandroid.
If you neeed to send certain files to your phone, don't forget the sideload feature if you want to flash a zip file from your computer. Enable sideload in your recovery, and type: adb sideload *.zip

the only optionyou have is to flash a factory image through fastboot..head over here --> Click Me
i downloaded the factory image from google extracted then did the same fastboot flash as the 4.3 but switched the names to the files in the krt16o zip. it worked perfectly for me. tried using wugs toolkit and everything went to crap. i say do the same method as 4.3 but rename all the files accordingly.
