I hope so, and i hope it's not a kind of Qualcomm "bottleneck" between the GPS chip and the CPU...

tomtom have lag
copilot looks like it if have, is so tiny that will not be a problem
The lag problem is due to TomTom software not the PDA...
Good news
Also they run a beta rom.
So multi touch works almost 99% everywhere.
it aint multitouch,
its nothing more then pinch to zoom.
and for those, that say, i need a stylus, you wont, allmost on every windows screen or app, you can pinch to zoom.
Almost no lag with CoPilot and iGO8 - I don't like TomTom so I didn't test.
My ROM is final - MultiTouch not working anymore in those programs

Please take what Cendaryn said above with a HUGE grain of salt.
For many years I've been reading posts here from people who claim they don't have GPS lag with their HTC devices. I've read these posts back when I had the TytnII, then when I had the Diamond, and also now when I have the HD. I had annoying GPS lag with all of these devices, and never in my life saw such device without GPS lag.
I don't believe it for a second. Until *all* users report no GPS lag, the HD2 should be regarded as having GPS lag. For all I know Cendaryn could be an HTC agent (and please note he didn't say "no lag", he said "almost no lag", which is open for interpertations, and could very well mean there's the usuall lag, which was always small, but annoying).
If you'll ask Cendaryn, he'll proabably tell you he also didn't have GPS lag with his Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2.

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to accuse people of being "agents", but many don't realize what is meant by the GPS lag in question. Certainly I've never seen or heard that it would be present in TomTom and absent in iGo - it's a hardware/driver issue, and you can clearly see the actual coordinates not pointing to where you are when moving at certain speeds.
The easy way to see whether there is this lag is to move at, say, 40 km/h and then stop. If the lag is present, you'll see how your position on the map will still move for a few seconds to reach the point where you actually are (and notice how in iGo the dot representing current coordinates will also move).

Please read carefully I said "almost" while on the TP2 and the D2 I had sometimes SEVERE lags
I don't mind if I'm +/- 5 meters (this is what I have on the HD2) but I do mind +/- 50 meters and THIS ist what I had on the TP2/D2!
On my Touch HD, I had no lag at all with TomTom 7.5. Big lag on 7.9, so I would agree that the problem seems to be TomTom.
If it is TomTom software, why my HTC Kaiser does not have this kind of lag?
I am using TomTom 7.916.9189 ... and map v835.

I guess we're talking about different kinds of lags here. Maybe TT has a lag of its own, but the OP was asking about a different problem I believe.

Can someone make pics of the content, please...
And what about GPS? Is it fast? Is the signal good? How long does it take to lock onto the satelites. btw, congrats man and greetings from Czech.
quick answer so there is no real navigation software preinstalled? like O2 did with the touch diamond once.
wmplayer can play same stuff like allways... it has preinstalled 15 days trial of CoPilot... i haven`t tryied gps yet, but this evening i will... and i will make some photo for you, give me couple of hours because i have some work...
forget about the work ... a serious time just started for you
If you happen to have an iphone or ipod touch or are familiar with them: How does the screen responsiveness compare to them? Are gentle touches enough to get a response? Also, is it... I guess the right word to use is snappy?
I know alot of reviews say it is, but I'd like to here it from a regular consumer rather than reviewers.
Can you advise on the speed of the camera, is it faster than the Touch HD?
thanks

You mean Satelite Navigation program? TomTom will work fine, there is a thread in this forum for a version that'll work with our phone/resolution, you'll of course have to buy maps.
iGO8 also works pretty well, and there are also free things such as Waze, Google Maps, etc.

If you are going to stick with WM6.1 TomTom will work, but if you goto WM6.5 it will lag really bad... I have swiched over to Garmin which works perfectly.

Not true. I'm using energyROM Leo (wm 6.5.5 w/manila 2.5) and tomtom runs smooth as anything on here.
I will second that. I am running 7.917 with 840 maps and have virtually no lag and fast aquire times. I guess it boils down to what you are used to. I prefer TomTom because that was my first and I like to customize the heck out if it with cameras, poi's voices etc.
As long as it gets you there is all that matters.
My preference
I've used iGo8, Tomtom 7.9xxx, many of the freebie/shareware and CoPilot 8. I liked CoPilot 8 the best. It's smooth, nice display, with many display options. It seemed the most intuitive to use and is very finger friendly.
I've used it on a Fuze and Tilt 2 with stock and various flavors of WM6.5 custom ROMs.
Hi Guys,
Can someone tell me please, if the Sky Map application is working well in HD2? I mean, no lags and good precision in tracking mode (G-sensors and compass)?

It does, but it depends on if you have a recent Build that has a working compass. otherwise you're good to go
but you may face unsuccessful installation, avoid that by unmounting the sd card before installing

So, there is no lags, right?
I'm asking because I will buy a new cellphone next week and my doubts are between Hd2 and SGS. Desire HD is much more expensive and out of my list...

If it's that important, I'd suggest going with a phone that runs Android from the factory. I love my HD2 because its fun to tweak, but battery life issues, G sensor calibration issues, etc make it more difficult to use day to day.

I thought that the G sensor calibration issues were fixed with the last roms. It's pity because I just love the HD2 feeling and professional look.
Hi all,
I have almost decided that the Galaxy S is going to be my next phone but just wanted to check what the current state of the GPS problem is (yes I have googled but can't find any definitive answer).
Have samsung fixed this and if so what is GPS reception like, how long does it take to pick up a signal etc. How does the GPS chipset compare to the HTC Hero?
Cheers,
Michael
Its not flawless....but works decent enough. The update frequency is slow and has minor accuracy issues, but something you can live with.
Why not wait for a couple months and get a dual core based phone? or even the nexus s instead
i was leaning towards the Galaxy S due to its relatively low second hand price (I have seen some go for just over £200). Moving from a HTC Hero as I am getting more and more frustrated by how much the keyboard and software in general lags and could do with a bigger screen.
Quite like the look of the HTC Desire HD but battery life concerns me.
Nexus S seems over priced for an average handset to me.
iPhone 4 very nice but too expensive and lack of Googlemaps nav is a big downer.
Everything about the Galaxy S seems nice except for this GPS issue...
It is clearly not fixed.
I tested 3 different Galaxy S with 2.1 and one that I upgraded to 2.2 (JL2) and all of them had a broken GPS. It gets a lock, but it is imprecise. Sometimes it think that you are on the next street.<
Never had this problem with: hero, milestone and optimus one.
what about the 2.2.1 roms? have heard some people have had more success with these... anyone tried these?
mine was useless but is much better with 2.2.1

2.2.1 working great 4 me also.. no jumping around or loosing lock while navigating.. have tested 4 over 2 hours now..

Same with JPU 2.2.1 roms are just perfect
If locking is not your problem, Da_G has made some awesome progress in tracking over in the Captivate forum. Try out his updates. Really interesting thread.

It's not an option for all of us. If I flash a ROM not made for Bell Canada, I loose support for my locale.

Tell me how to do the tracks and I will do them. I am also experiencing very (dramatically?) improved GPS after the official update to 2.2. Previously GPS Status was showing a lot of satellites, but only a few (3-5) locked. Now it's 10/10 or 9/9 ... Haven't tested it too much around big buildings though (just briefly and was similar to results from my G1).

I'll try to record some track with 2.2.1, but the improvement is noticeable.
Maybe it won't be accurate enough for fitness use, but at least it doesn't jump around in a 100 meter range randomly.
Now, for the first time ever my GPS is useable. Not perfect, but reaches the minimum necessary to be useable.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=200899946886418974283.000498631226c188839f0
Google maps may not be 100% accurate here. Track was recorded from a car. Galaxy S with JPY seems to overshoot on corners, but certainly it is good enough for car navigation.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
GPS works much much better since firmware based en 2.2.1. My lock time switch from 1 or 2 minutes for 5/6 satts to 10/15 seconds with 8/11 satts. Accurancy was a bit better with JPU (nearly always 5 meters) but with JPY it's now between 5 and 10 meters.
TLDR: GPS is quite usable now with 2.2.1 ROM.

That's not a problem with the ROM as much as it is a general problem with the HD2 unfortunately. It only supports 2 points on the screen, and I've found it does that terribly as well.

I dont think so, in my previous rom (Typhoon CM7) multitouch worked flawlessly in the games. After all these updates, how isnt it a priority to fix this?

Because it's working for almost everyone, so it isn't really a 'known problem' as such. What version of the ROM are you on? If you're on 2.1 it'll be a bit shady, but multitouch works as well as it did on Typhoon for me on v2.2 (haven't got round to the 2.3 update yet).

Hmm, try going into the settings>developer options and enabling 'pointer location', then see if both the points are detected. Don't worry if the two points sometimes 'lock together', this is normal for the HD2's outdated screen

As far as I know that's a HD2 problem, yes. You probably have experienced it before, but haven't noticed it because you don't have the visual feedback to show you that it's happening. It doesn't have much of an effect during gaming (surprisingly)
omethek
it is a problem, because any game with a joystick is unplayable.
edit: besides the 'lock together', sometimes when the touch points are close to eachother, they are detected "inversed". is that normal too?
I agree that our device is outdated, but I've never experienced such issues.
I played multitouch games on WP7, Android GB & (Currently) ICS .. Even GTA 3, the movements are precise.
Not sure what you two are facing, but it's definitely not "too-old" related.
The only thing that the HD2 can't do is handling more than two finger points, other than that, everything seems to be fine for me.
There are lockups, but they are rare.

I'm beginning to agree with Marvlesz here, these issues aren't that normal. I've never had the points becoming inversed and I can play games with onscreen 'joysticks' (i.e. GTA3) fine, so I think you might need to take a look at some of those threads with the digitizer issue and check if others are experiencing the same issues.
