Has anyone installed PocketInformant 9.01 on to their HD2? If so, any issues? Can you make PI the default Calendar for the Home Screen?
Thanks.
-Bob-
Hi,
I use PI 9 on my HD2. No issues so far. I have put the PI icon in a tab on the homescreen and unchecked the box for the normal calender-tab.

Just to make sure I understand you...You were able to turn off the default Calendar on the bottom tabs and add the PI link instead? I didn't realize that you could ADD links to the bottom tabs; I thought you could only remove them. Can you send a screen shot?
Thanks.

Hi there,
No, I didn't explain it good.
The tabs with Contacts, SMS, Mail, Internet etc you can't change. I just unchecked the Calender tab for those tabs so you won't see it. When you leave it in the tabs, it's just the normal Windows calender whats in it, even when you make PI your default calender.
So as I said, I 'disabled' the normal calender tab, and I put a shortcut to PI on the frontpage under the clock.
Hope this explains it for you.
Cheers.

Ahhh, that's what I thought. Thanks.
softkey
Or the PI link under the left soft key (normally "telephone") so you have an extra tab/button/shortcut. The telephone can already be activated by the left hard key (or via contact). In PI I use the calender, as the task is quite hard to ues with the Leo. It;s virtually impossible to key in a date in a new task. And contacts is less good than all the new fuctionalities is Sense. But the calendar is worth it,now you can go up/down/left and right. Amazing.

I found something interesting while fiddling with my TP2. I've been trying to change the Home page: Calender (appointments) to point to PI with no avail. PI is the default PIM for my phone and the right soft key was changed to point to it.
Here's the catch: When TF3D (Manila) shows an appointment, it will open to MS poutlook calender. It so happened that I have no recorded appointment showing today and it merely showed "Calender." I pressed on it and it went on to fire up PI, much ot my surprise. I added an appointment and tested but it went to MS poutlook. I deleted the appointment and the "Calender" again opens up PI.
Now if someone can help to point me to the registry on the calling up of appointments by TF3D from MS poutlook, it may just be possible to change the default calender to whatever we choose (PI and what have you).
Thanks in advance.
This is something I am having trouble with too!
I have used SSMaHo and when click on "calendar" in the programs screen it works fine....just not for the appointment links on the today screen.
Thanks in advance!
Would be great. I have been searching and found nothing so far....
FT3D and PI

2. Also has anyone managed to get Google Exchange working properly? Im able to sync mails, but not Contacts or Calendar entries?
Will add more doubts if I come across.
P.S. Ive searched before posting. If I did miss, kindly show me the link

1. If you go to contacts, then select the contact, edit, and a few lines down is "file as". It's labourious so may be easier to do from a PC
If you go to "people", you need to go to the contact, edit, scroll down to reach "more" at the end and it puts you in the contact edit field described aboce.
2. No idea, sorry.
Google Sync working fine here using the settings as per their set up pages, Calender and Contacts working.
for mass managing of the contacts in the right order you can use 'contacts changer 1.3'

Thanks a lot brother! That made the task a whole lot simpler!
Just a note that Contacts changer is not free anymore.
Now another problem I've been facing is that, Im not able to Copy Paste in Contacts app. Like I want to Cut one fields details and put it in another field, but whenever I select the text, and try to tap on it inoder to hold and get the menu, the text gets deselected.
Im not able to Copy-Cut-Paste properly.

Be carefull because Google Sync doesn't support Task synchronization.
You've to disactivate it to be able to synchronize Contacts, Calendar & Mails.
^^ Yea bro. You're right! Tasks was the issue! Now everything works perfect
But the CopyPaste problem still exists for the Contacts app (among other random apps) Any solution for that?
I think the only solution is to install a keyboard that has Cut/Copy/Paste functions.
My favourite is Touchpal but there are others that do this.
Ironically the original WinMo keyboard did include the Ctrl key so these operations were possible

The problem exists in HTC's PEOPLE app but not in the CONTACTS app located in the Outlook folder in the START menu.

random question......
unlike many, I actually really like windows mobile calendar, and think its a bit more functional than the htc sense one.
Is there anyway to link the today calendar to windows calendar so that it comes up, instead of defaulting to the calendar tab on sense?
Gracias in advance you clever people!
You're right, htc calendar is eye-candy but basically s***s big time.
I cannot copy/paste calendar item, cannot tap-hold delete them, nor can I move forward one week or a LOT of other things that in the "uglier" PO calendar are easy to do.
Having a calendar tab which points to plain pocket outlook would be nice, instead of sacrificing one quicklink slot that I already use for other things.
I put it in quick links, and anyway now PO calendar looks simply ugly, some interface elements are garbled (the arrows to move one week forward or backward, or missing box to "go to today"), plus opening the dropdown to select the time is hella hard with the small arrow and big fingertip... AHHH software shortcomings are oh so frustrating, and it would have required so little of an effort to make sense calendar better!
Im sure im not the only one thats moved from an iPhone from the Aria and has questions about Android. Im making this thread so we can keep all of our noobish questions in one place to make them easier for everyone to deal with. If you have any questions post them up here hopefully some of our very helpful more experienced Android users will chime in.
(this thread would probably do better in the general forum)
I'm trying to figure out the contact management. Seems like some screens show my gmail "my contacts" and others show all my gmail contacts. And I can't figure out what the linking feature does
I'm trying to install swype. I got the installer onto the phone via adb, but thanks to AT&T blocking sideloading I cant get any further, running the installer gives me the same message when you try to sideload.
Do I need to find an apk for swype instead of using swype's own installer?
i agree with moving the thread... so i did!

This is one thing I want to try but havent gotten around to it. I think your two options are to root and sideload or just side load using this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706887

I also wish there was another way to wake up the phone. either the joystiq or double tap a button. I'm afraid my power button is gonna wear out
Here's a newbish question from a (soon to be former) Win Mobile user...
I need to sync appointments, tasks and contacts with my computer at work.
Can someone give me a rundown of the different ways to sync with Outlook?
I don't mind spending a little bit of money on an app. I want something that syncs reliably, and something that has a data structure similar to Outlook's (i.e. I'd like to not lose categories, appointment recurrances, privacy options, etc..).
I don't care about having my work email sent or copied to my phone or anything like that.

I am in the same boat as you. i have heard that HTC Sync is supposed to do that, but i don't have an Aria so i can't tell you how well it works. You could give it a try first since it's free. Another one i've heard of is Companion Link
HTC Sync & Outlook
The Aria does support Activesync, so you can utilize connections to an Exchange server. Also, HTC Sync does allow for contacts, calendar, etc. to be synced with Outlook as well. Just got mine yesterday and synced 965 contacts with HTC Sync and had no problems.

So if you have ActiveSync installed on your PC, you just plug the Aria in and ActiveSync works like it does on a WinMo phone?
That seems pretty darn easy.
Ive just switched to the Aria after being under the Apple curtain. I like the text input options, especially using Swype. But how do you scroll over words in url's like the iphone can? On the iphone if you hold your finger over the word, w/o releasing and scroll left or right it will move the cursor too. This function is vital to word correction.
thanks

I THINK active sync is for direct sync with your exchange server OTA. If you want to sync over USB, you need to use HTC Sync. I was wondering how well it worked. It's nice to hear it worked well.

You will need HTC Sync. Activsync is for windows mobile phones and Outlook. HTC Sync will sync calendar and contacts.

The link feature is to link a contact from your contact list to a Friend on Face book or Twitter.

Yep, I was able to get calendar & contacts all done last night with no problem. I also used tasks quite a bit in Outlook/WinMo, but that doesn't sync over. No biggie. I'll just have to find another task management app.

From another previous iPhone user, the best thing to do is to press your finger (not hold, just press) as close to the word you want to correct as best as you can. If you're a little off - use the optical trackpad to move the cursor over to the right spot. If you use Swype too, if your cursor is touching the word you can press the Swype button on the buttom left of the virtual keyboard and it will select the whole word and provide other words to correct it with.
what does ADW Launcher do, and is it a must have?
what are your thoughts on Advanced Task Killer, or Task Killers in general? i have heard mixed feelings about task killers.
still trying to sort out everything there is about Android!

This is what Ive been looking for. Much easier editing now. It seemed like the display Aria at At&t had an extra app installed that did this. It highlighted everything making the words purple and had lightning symbols around the sentences highlighted. Im going back to store to see what they had installed to make it look like that.
I am used to using Sense 3.0, with ARHD 6.3.2. I have two email accounts setup. I can long press on a homescreen, and choose to add a shortcut, and then select "Mail Account" and then it asked me which account. I select Yahoo and then I have an email shortcut on my homescreen that opens my Yahoo account immediately. I can do the same for my Hotmail account.
Funny enough, one big reason I love Sense so much is because of how nice this shortcut works. The icon will show a little number to tell me how many new messages are waiting.
But then I loaded up Sense 4.0 (Ice Sense, with Sense 4.0 Lite, and then Virtuous with full Sense 4.0), and the mail shortcut is gone.
I now loaded up Blackout, with Sense 3.6.....same thing, no more mail shortcut.
Does anyone know how to get a Sense mail shortcut to a specific account? Can others check their sense phone to see if they have the ability? Thanks!
Try Desktop Visualizer, it's Free from the market. It can create shortcuts to almost anything you want.
You can also create a shortcut to mail inboxes.

Just got around to trying Desktop Visualizer. No luck. You select the icon, then you go to select the "action". For the action, you can select an app, or a shortcut.....the same options as when you create anything on your homescreen. Meaning, there is not shortcut for individual mailboxes. I''m surprised no one else is seeing this on the latest Senses...3.6 and even 4.0. No shortcuts to individual mailboxes.
What I did is I went into my app drawer and the Yahoo wasn't there, so I downloaded the app from the play store and then I was able to add the shortcut.
Hope that helps

Let me understand you well. You have multiple mail accounts and you want to create separate shortcuts for each one. Well if this is what you would like to do, well you can do it with Desktop Visualizer.
Once you create a shortcut and click on it. You are given a choice between 3 options: App - Other - Shortcut.
Choose Other. Then choose Mail. Then a it will show you the different mail accounts you have configures. Choose the one you like.
You can see how it's done in the images below:

Hmm, can you do me a favour, and try to add a regular shortcut without Desktop Visualizer....just long press on your homescreen, and select Shortcut, and see if you have the option of Mailboxes. I think you can see the option in Desktop Visualizer because the option is always available to you. I'm just curious. Thanks.
No it is not available in the default sense menu. Just to make sure, is this the app you installed? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.bii.android.app.dskvzr&hl=en
Also, which option is missing in your case? "Other" or "Mail" or the individual mail choice menu ?
Just checked again. Under Other, I don't have an option for Mailboxes. Just Messages (like texts). Maybe it's a rom thing?? I notice I don't have it with some of the Sense 4 Lite and Sense 4 full roms, and also my current Sense 3.6 rom. Something fishy.
Hmmm... that's weird. It could be a ROM thing. :/
I figured it out. I had been restoring my mail accounts successfully using Titanium backup. But now I see, if you do that, Sense doesn't recognize that any mailboxes have been created. The mail accounts work fine, except for this one problem. So if I setup my two accounts manually, I then get the option for Mailboxes. Sorry for the confusion guys.
Great! It becomes frustrating, I know
