Hello.
As I could not find a comparison using the seach on the forum, could someone highlight the major difference between the most recent versions of DCD titan roms?
Which one is generally more stable and fast?
Any advantage of one over another?
Thanks.
Never used the 4.1.2 before. Don't remember the exact issue with 3.3.4, but something did not work right. It may have been WM Media player. I am currently using a rom cooked in DCDs 3.2.6 kitchen. I have no complaints about it. Then again I've never trie any of the 4.x series. DCD said himself there was something wrong with the 3.3.x roms and scrapped it and started on the 4 series.
Sorry I cant be of more help
Been using dcd 4.1.2 since the start. Biggest problem is that when u use the qwerty keyboard many of the letters double type. So if u hit "f" u get "ff". I know 3 people with the same ROM and mogul and we all have the problem so its not hardware issue.

Hi everyone I have been searching the forum but turning up zero. Many many month ago I had read that nochem had put together a rom that disabled the camera on the mogul. Freeing up something like 5 megs more of memory. But now I can't find the thread of the rom link.

Since your thread was closed....???? I'll answer it here. He made what is called Nue Kernel. Don't know if he made it in a ROM, but if you go to his website, you can download it for your own cooking, or see if he has any ROMs there. I beleive RyanMogul6800's roms have it (at least the one I tried out did 6.1 heavey).
3.2.6 is very stable. should have stayed w/ it.
4.1.2 renders the hardware keyboard useless. has a nicer version of internet exploder on it.
I've been meaning to flash one of RM's roms, but haven't gotten around to it. spending too much time deciding between the Eris and the Droid...
Avoid the Droid if you use any MS live features. Droid requires you to sync everything to a Google Gmail account. Can't use any Live email addresses or syncing.
For what it's worth... last week, I flashed my phone back to dcd 3.2.6, just to see what I was missing.
The hardware keyboard was usable again! No more ddoouubbllee letters every time I typed.
I did really miss the browser. 4.1.2 has a more finger friendly browser; you use your finger to swipe the screen and scroll around the page. In 3.2.6 you have to use the thumb wheel, d-pad or tiny little scroll bars.
I don't remember putting much, if any, work into getting the GPS to work w/ 4.1.2 It was not working in 3.2.6 when I loaded the ROM. I didn't take the time to go back and figure out what I needed to do to get it moving again. I believe there are ready solutions out there though.
Once loaded with 3.2.6 the phone was very responsive again. I would guess that this is as much due to just wiping it clean as it was the ROM though. Didn't go back to a fresh 4.1.2 to contrast.
Very subjective, but w/ 3.2.6 the phone seemed like it was working as intended. 4.1.2 seemed like it was asking to do the phone too much, and it showed in the operation.
If I were to keep using the Titan, I would have kept 3.2.6 and looked for a way to get the benefits of the internet explorer interface. That would have been my best of both worlds. But, I decided to grab a Droid Eris instead. So, I'm officially retiring the Titan.

So after a month of issues with my Wing locking up anytime I try to use the keyboard, it apparently is an issue with the stock ROM. So here's what I'm looking for and cannot find ANYWHERE (yes, I've searched and asked before in another thread and got no where).
I want a calendar option where I can have multiple calendars on the phone. At work, I have 3 schedules/calendars I look at and would like one for personal use. My problems with the phone started when I tried to use the calendar for the first time and it only has been worse since. I'd like to correct that and give me the option to keep updated with multiple schedules.
I also do not want to give up MS Excel/PowerPoint/Word. I use the Wifi quite a bit, well did before I couldn't type anything without freezing, so I can't lose that or MMS/SMS texts. I need all the basic stuff but wouldn't mind trying out the slide to unlock or the cube as everyone says. My buddy has the Touch and the cube is kinda cool but it's not a must. Games, I'll take as many as I can get! I've tried using emulators for SNES games (Punchout rules!) and it just never worked right. I'm a solitaire junkie (84 seconds, beat that!) but wouldn't mind others like freecell, tetris, bowling, Hold'Em or whatever would be good "sitting on the john" time killers.
Can anyone here help me? The main thing is the calendars which I cannot find with searching for almost an hour at work today. haha!
oh yeah, and if something could overclock it for faster speeds, I'd be happy unless the new ROM is fast enough. The weather feature would be really nice as well. Any other cool features I should know about??
At the moment I'm using TTran's open touch biggy 4.0. I was using itje's touch it 2.3 before, and liked it alot, but that phone broke and when I got the new one I wanted to try something new. Pretty much everything you need is included in it, and it runs very fast and smooth. I highly recommend it.
So with that, I can have multiple schedules? Is it possible to relabel them?
Am I looking for something that just isn't made or does no one understand what it is I'm looking for? I'm trying to get this to work for my work but I need multiple schedules.
It doesn't exist that I know off... unfortunately, ActiveSync and pocket outlook will not allow multiple mailboxes/addressbooks/CALENDARs. I wish it did... but it doesn't. At least there isn't any way that I'm aware off.
Ugh! someone should get to modding! I bet enough people would use it to justify the time. Plus, I'll throw in $20. haha
screw it. I'm going to flash the Open Touch 4.0 Biggy in a day or two when I have time. My only question is, do I download the file to the computer and put it as it is on the Wing or do I unzip it then put the "MyFirstROM" folder on the wing? It just says d/l it then open. Open on which machine? Also, I did a backup of my contacts to the card but if I flash it, will reloading from the software give me all my contacts back? What do i need to do so I don't lose a TON of contacts?
I am assuming you haven't used Hard-SPL yet? You have more to do than just flash a ROM
I've read on here you don't have to Hard-SPL to go with a new rom unless it calls for it and the Open Touch 4.0 supposedly doesn't need it. Am I wrong?
I had the stock tmobile rom, and I updated to Open Touch 3.0 without Hard-SPL and mine runs fine. I think for other roms, you may have to, but usually the rom will specify it.
UPS just dropped off my new phone...and i'm excited!
However, i don't know wtf i'm doing So, I turn to you for help. I'd like to get this thing up and rockin' like today so hopefully all this goes smoothly.
1. How do i get Touchflo 2D installed(or any programs/mods for that matter?)
2. Necessary updates? What do i need?
3. WM 6.1(or current version)? Where do i get it and how do i install it?
4. Any tips? Ideas? "You should know's..."?
We'll start with that. I'm pretty sure i'll be a regular 'round these here pert's
Thanks in advance!
alright...so after enough research to figure things out i've gotten this far...
1. Done
2. got all v18 Manilla updates, anything else I need/shoudl get?
3. I noticed the default ROM is a bit sluggish, and have read a bit about thsi one -> "nueROM 3 6152-3pre3"...thoughts? where do i get it?
4. refer to #4 above
My NEW question is...Is there a way i can write up my contacts list from my old phone on my computer(faster typing) and import it?
oh yeah, and im having a hell of a time trying to change a manilla skin...how is that done? It says to place the contents of the folder in the windows directory, but that doesn't work.
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com. You need to donate to get an account, just donate a buck.
also, being new to this...
what is "cooked ROM" ?
"cooked" refers to a ROM that has been assembled by people other than the original providers of the phone. I think 'hacked' is probably a more technically accurate term, but cooked sounds better.
The nueROM is a cooked ROM. DCD is another common ROM type as well.
Here: http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/ is a great tutorial on how to flash the latest DCD rom. This is the one I'm using. Very stable. I've heard promising things from the nueROM 3, but I'm not quite prepared to change over to that... mostly because I'm not looking forward to having re-install/configure my device.
I do have a question though, Did you get this phone in mind for SPRINT?, Because it was an offly awful time to get it, because the HTC Touch Pro is coming out on the 18th of this month (October)
And even if you werent seeking this phone for sprint, im pretty confident that some ROM Chef out there would be willing to make roms and carrie CABS for specified CDMA Networks.
Well goodluck with ur mogul, as im not having much with mine, im terribly regretting the fact i got it only because of its incredibly crippled RAM. Well have a good day
I think the latest DCD ROM is more stable and more free RAM available after the install. Also the kitchen is available and plenty of OEMs to put in the kitchen to cook into the ROM. There is a WiKi link in the sticky notes and how to upgrade your phone to the latest. I have been using the Titan (Verizon VX6800) for almost a year and love it. I don't think that the HTC Touch Pro is going to give you anything more than what you get with a Titan except maybe more memory to run apps. They have already got the interface working on the Titan (Manilla 2d) and are working on the Manilla 3d as well. I prefer the SPB Mobile Shell myself. More info on the Now screen for me to see email and calendar, plus the contacts screen is much better for either calling or texting.
Keep looking through this forum and the Titan Upgrading forum for all kinds of info and apps.
To be completely honest. I'm a little pissed at the moment about this phone. Keep in mind im a noob.
1. My texts' don't say the contacts name on them even after saving the name, just the number shows up. I failed math 3 times in a row in college so i don't do numbers (and im a flash developer...go figure)
2. SLLLOOOOOWWWWWW...this thing CRAWLS, at least with the original ROM. Whats the latest and greatest ROM out there?
3. Half of my SH*T isn't working right, granted i'm using all of this modded stuff, but even still...no internet, phone buttons are dumb, landscape isn't working right...
4. i apologize, i know there are more people out there that like this phone than don't like it...i'm just venting over the frustration of learning a new piece of software/hardware...
and also...i'd like to get some of this taken care of before i get too far into saving names, etc. in thsi thing and have them magically erase cause of a crash lol
Wrong but right.

You are quite wrong.... The Nue-rom 3 has MUCH more free mem upon boot. Nearly 27 megs. I find Nuerom MUCH faster.
Well I did 2 hard resets to see if Manilla2D was the problem and i'm using just that and the stock sprint 6.1 ROM and all of a sudden im having a couple annoying problems and wondering if there is any fixes to them.
- When I click on a Text Message from the main screen and it brings up the threaded texting, when im using XT9 and I start typing it will type as if im holding down the letters like if I press the "as" button "?" will come up, and for me to type normal i have to go to Start>Programs>Messaging, which is really annoying lol.
- Another one is im using the TouchFlo2D Dialer, if i switch to keypad from call status the whole phone freezes up and i have to soft reset
- everytime i restart my touch i get a startkey.exe error and i just hit dont send and start up touchflo.
- last problem/bug that i can remember is that my phone is really really slow and i have nothing on it except manilla2d.
these are the steps i did to install manilla 2D idk if it will help solve my problem:
copied the "EMPTY" biotouch.exe and 3 other files I got from XDA and put them in the "Windows" folder, then used resco registry editor and disabled the cube, then installed all the cabs for Manilla2D to my "Device" not storage card, (it asked me to soft reset after some of them, but i didnt since i was going to soft reset after i finished installing them all.) then soft reseted and manilla2d works just is really laggy =(
any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you in advance =D
I had the same problem with my phone running extremely slow whenever i tried installing manila 2d on my phone through the cab installs. I flashed to a custom rom with manila 2d built in it and the problems went away. It runs extremely smooth now.
ive never flashed my phone and only way i would do it if i had someone walk me through it as im doing it=\
How did you get the 6.1 ROM? You would flash it the same way as you did that one.
i just installed it from the htc site or whatever, but for custom roms dont you have to do all that unlocking and what not?

It's not terribly hard - in fact, the unlocking process is very similar to how you flashed the official ROM update.
Just use COKE's unlocker (just an app like the flasher) and install any custom ROM you want
this slowness has happened to me with a custom rom, i think its manilla.
it was very wierd, overall the entire OS was mega slow and un-usable as the OP said
I found what works best for me is piecing everything. I took everything from Update 19 except M2D-Beta-x.xx(Update19).cab. I installed M2D-Beta-x.xx(Update 15).cab (anything after made my device slow). I installed the latest version of Opera.
(sorry for the dots I'm just looking at them on my phonenand it's not showing all of the titles on some.)
First I ran:
HTC.home.v2.1.1005.722.directory.and.......... .cab
So From 19:

Great manilla2d rom
Hey guys.
If your looking for a good, fast, stable rom with manilla29 PLEASE flash this rom..............
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487
NFSFAN has spent lots of time on this and is by far THE BEST manilla2d rom there is out there. He is constantly update bugs and getting the fixes out as soon as possible. This is the closest thing you can get to the diamond/touch pro without buying one. Any questions please feel free to ask BUT READ ALL DIRECTIONS ON FLASHING IF YOU HAVE NOT YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to second that.
I used to have the stock Bell 3.09.666.10 ROM, with (my last incarnation) update 21. To get all the parts of M2D running (yuotube etc) you have to install alot of patches and tweaks.
My theory has always been, if you have to add too many parts to get something to work, maybe you should start over. Google "Beech 1900D" to see how this applies to aircraft!! A custom ROM with everyhting cooked in oem style runs much better than a Frankenstien special.
It is fun trying to get everything to work though.
When I first added M2D to my device it was extremely slow. After playing around for a while I found that the page pool played a huge roll in the speed of the rom. My page pool is set at 24 and I have no problems at all. I have had no problems with NFSFAN's roms. I believe the PP is already set to 24. Hope this helps.
Warning; scrolling is very glitchy and jerky. It may address other problems, but for me it was not even close to being worthwhile. I had the original stock rom reasonably stable and smooth and this is like an amateurish cooked rom. I haven't strayed from stock for reasons of it being so new, and this update is really surprisingly rough. Good luck.
Caveate Update!
note; I went from original stock ROM to this new one, and did hard reset after setup of first flash, in other words, this was totally stock, so can't imagine need for task 29. Other than terribly annoying jerkiness, rom has crashed only once since new rom.
note 2; got new phone May 18: Identical issues, but is definitely more stable.
works great for me
may you doing something wrong
How long did you give the rom to settle? Six hours, 12 hours, 48 hours...15minutes?
See blow....sorry

This is exactly what i felt with my phone after flashing new ROM. So, right away i flashd back my old one.
I gave rom about 2 hours before deciding that it was problematic. Now a day later it is the same. So, if it is being suggested that the rom needs to "settle in" I have given it that chance and it has not changed. Also, I do not see how a rom needs to soak in, beyond the initial setup and things settling down from the install.
I would flash back but I am waiting for replacement, the middle battery pin is bent and loose, so I've not loaded hspl or done any cooked roms. And they are all out of stock locally.
I noticed that the rom does run ****ty, im sure that its the video drivers that need to be changed. the .10 stock version did not jerking issues. this one has both jerk and typing lag. ran it for 2 days now, there is no settling in on roms.

The new rom is awesome. what are you talking about.. maybe you updated the 2.10 and thought it was the new 2.13 lol
New rom runs like ****. How can I revert back to 2.10? Can't take the touch screen sensitivity issue!
Downloaded it direct off tmo, that"s why I quoted full name of file to eliminate any confusion. And, I don't even have any other rom. Would be great if that was problem.
It seemed to speed up today when I removed the sd card but haven't had time to test it. Either way, this rom is mucked up.

FYI...
Something I worked on this weekend. Some test registry tweaks that really helped the sensitivity issues:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6505849#post6505849
Post there to let me know what your experience is.
The new ROM is running great for me so far though I had very few issues with the old ROM. Swype's hold for secondary and many texting issues being fixed are the large improvements for me. Sensitivity was my only issue with this ROM though there are registry solutions for that.
After installing a ROM I do a hard reset as prescribed by most tutorials out there. Have the people having issues skipped this step? I guess I have have never NOT done it to see if it really makes a difference. It only adds a minute to the process.
I do some registry edits by default after installing, mostly pertaining to memory allocation. I also install chainfire's video driver patch pretty much right away. This could be helping me as well.
Link to memory tweaks. I do the edits from "suitable for all ROMs" down to "added 11/2/10".
Thanks, I'll give the reg tweaks a shot.
so the new update isnt worth getting?
I'm on the elegancia rom with 2.13 base, wm 6.5.5 version. it's been running nicely
more smooth than kumar's 1.3 rom, which I upgraded from. No issues with glitchy scrolling here. icons on this rom are not for me though. might try official tmo 2.13 some day.
It works really well for me so far. I've had it 4 days.
New, Replacement phone; same
Finally got my phone replaced today. It has the new rom installed already, and it acts exactly like the old one. Really notice the scrolling problem in file manager and settings tab scrolling. Only thing different about this phone is that the reset button under battery cover is yellow, whereas old one was red. Whatever. I will live with the problems until ironed out I suppose.
I don't know what you all are doing, but my HD2 now is much faster than it was using the 2.10 ROM. Using the post below, alleviated the sensitivity issue and downloading memory registry tweak makes everything silky smooth.

Just apply the tweaks manually.
I am a MOD at a blackberry hybrid site where I used to build hybrid operating systems for blackberry devices. This winmo stuff is like "greek" to me. I don't see a point in a custom ROM here for anything more than looks and a few tweaks that I can do on my own.
Are there leaks with ROMs frequently like there is with blackberry?
Would you suggest a Droid ROM or winmo? and why?
Droid ROMs can be fully loaded to a winmo device correct? Why not if you wipe the device and reload it?
Lastly, I constantly am getting the user name and password pop up for my yahoo email, but I keep entering it and clicking save but it never does. Why?
I forgot to mention that I have switched and now have the HTC HD2 and love it!
Cant really beat the HD2 IMO
anyway,
People cook their own ROM's for there needs, jazz them up a bit make them look pretty, update to the latest versions of the software and apps, take apps out to save space so you can install on the sd card, cooked ROM's are more stable faster, look better, check out the ROM thread once you flash you'll never go back stock.
Droid or Winmo, lol you got no choice mate!! (on the hd2 anyway)
email, I set mine up with .co.uk instead of .com once and it for ever asked me for user-name and password till i twigged on.

Ok, so nothing like building a Blackberry OS. I meshed and played with 1300 files to make a faster smoother operating system. Looks had nothing to do with it. I see that I will stay stock. I can delete my own apps and tweak my own reg files.

Thats exactly what ROM-Cooking for WinMo is about as well (apart from the tweaking and optical stuff). And besides that, the cooks often have builds of SoftwareElements that havent been released yet.

Amen to that.
I've had my HD2 for about 6 months now and it is my first WM device, when I first got it I thought the same as you, couldnt see what all the fuss was about with custom roms.
I'm still on a stock rom just now but the more I read on here the more I'm getting the itch to flash a custom rom, I'm putting it off though because I know that once I try one I wont be able to stop myself.........
Trust me you'll get the itch sooner or later.........
I went custom about 2 months ago and I have to say I honestly have not had to reboot the phone at all whereas on the original stock ROM the phone would lockup and freeze almost daily!!!
ALL HAIL THE MASTERCHEFS!!!!!!
NOOB - T-Mobile UK HD2 unlocked - no O2 connection..
Mong, sorry really long day......
Hey dubie,
As a lot of other people have put it, cooked roms are generally of a better quality than the stock roms. However they are still winmo roms so dont expect them to be as stable as their less customisable rivals. But thats just the small price you pay for a far better overall operating system.
Going back to your some of your other questions.
Currently it is not possible to run Android on the HD2, however there is a group of people feverishly working to try and fix this situation, I would like to see this done, but I am quite sure I would stick with winmo as my main os.
Unfortunately due to the varied nature of the hardware within winmo phones there is no current android rom that just works on all winmo phones. Some phones have android ports but many others do.
You mentioned about "Droid ROMs can be fully loaded to a winmo device correct? Why not if you wipe the device and reload it?"
I think you are talking about the use of Haret to run android roms from windows?
Haret is generally used in the developing stages of a linux rom to avoid having to flash a possibly buggy os. I beleive it is possible to flash a working linux rom to a winmo phone but it is usually not done, it is far more accepted to use haret to boot linux roms.
Thanks for all the replies. As a blackberry hybrid builder I made many builds that were way better than stock and more advanced so I can understand what you all are saying. I just am not seeing it yet in the posts. The ROMs I see made by people all have the registry tweaks I have already done and visual changed from the stock look. That's it. Am I not seeing something?
Yes your not seeing the full picture. Most cooks will use newer build components then what you will find in a stock ROM. Yes some of these components can be loaded through cabs but some can not. It is usually better to cook main OS apps and app components into a rom then loading them later. This tends to make things unstable and buggy. Yes a lot of cooks make theirs ROMs full of eye candy but that is only the icing on the cake so to say. You are coming from a phone that had nothing in terms of eye candy and was solely built for for function/productivity a newer WinMo phone is built to have both productivity and a pretty wrapper to go with it.
Don't worry the more you dig into the more you will understand and the more the urge will hit you to try a custom ROM.
Ok, so what ROM do you all recommend and why? I would like to test one out. I'm not interested in eye candy, just performance. I do not care about many apps either. Only twitter and Opera basically. I don't face book or use gmail.
Let me know what you all think or suggest.
I do have another question. Why do I keep getting this email user name and password popup? I keep entering it and checking the save password box but it still randomly pops up frequently. I have already tried deleting the yahoo email and resetting it back up.
You can start looking through them. There are some stripped down versions here and there but most will have other apps on it simple because thats what the cook uses.
The best idea for finding a rom that is right for you is just to browse the roms forum, look at what is included/removed from each rom and find one that matches the applications/functions you need.
make sure you follow this guide(or the one this links too if you have the american 1024 hd2) for updating your rom:

most of the time the cooked rom is not faster than stock, but it got the latest updates on all applications, and thats nice =) bugs are fixed. Some cooked roms have a lot of bugs, so try a couple and find one you like
Ok, WTF now. I have read so many posts and searched my butt off here and all for nothing? Seems I have this SPL 2.10 whatever that is and cant load that HSPL program so I can flash a custom rom. WTF? how many darn steps do I have to go through to load a ROM on this phone? Why is this so complicated? If the phone is wiped, why can't whatever I want be loaded on it?
So what do I do now?
What is a hard and soft spl?
Why would I want to downgrade just to load this hspl?
