Looking for a new ROM. - Wing, P4350 General

So after a month of issues with my Wing locking up anytime I try to use the keyboard, it apparently is an issue with the stock ROM. So here's what I'm looking for and cannot find ANYWHERE (yes, I've searched and asked before in another thread and got no where).
I want a calendar option where I can have multiple calendars on the phone. At work, I have 3 schedules/calendars I look at and would like one for personal use. My problems with the phone started when I tried to use the calendar for the first time and it only has been worse since. I'd like to correct that and give me the option to keep updated with multiple schedules.
I also do not want to give up MS Excel/PowerPoint/Word. I use the Wifi quite a bit, well did before I couldn't type anything without freezing, so I can't lose that or MMS/SMS texts. I need all the basic stuff but wouldn't mind trying out the slide to unlock or the cube as everyone says. My buddy has the Touch and the cube is kinda cool but it's not a must. Games, I'll take as many as I can get! I've tried using emulators for SNES games (Punchout rules!) and it just never worked right. I'm a solitaire junkie (84 seconds, beat that!) but wouldn't mind others like freecell, tetris, bowling, Hold'Em or whatever would be good "sitting on the john" time killers.
Can anyone here help me? The main thing is the calendars which I cannot find with searching for almost an hour at work today. haha!

oh yeah, and if something could overclock it for faster speeds, I'd be happy unless the new ROM is fast enough. The weather feature would be really nice as well. Any other cool features I should know about??

At the moment I'm using TTran's open touch biggy 4.0. I was using itje's touch it 2.3 before, and liked it alot, but that phone broke and when I got the new one I wanted to try something new. Pretty much everything you need is included in it, and it runs very fast and smooth. I highly recommend it.

So with that, I can have multiple schedules? Is it possible to relabel them?

Am I looking for something that just isn't made or does no one understand what it is I'm looking for? I'm trying to get this to work for my work but I need multiple schedules.

It doesn't exist that I know off... unfortunately, ActiveSync and pocket outlook will not allow multiple mailboxes/addressbooks/CALENDARs. I wish it did... but it doesn't. At least there isn't any way that I'm aware off.

Ugh! someone should get to modding! I bet enough people would use it to justify the time. Plus, I'll throw in $20. haha

screw it. I'm going to flash the Open Touch 4.0 Biggy in a day or two when I have time. My only question is, do I download the file to the computer and put it as it is on the Wing or do I unzip it then put the "MyFirstROM" folder on the wing? It just says d/l it then open. Open on which machine? Also, I did a backup of my contacts to the card but if I flash it, will reloading from the software give me all my contacts back? What do i need to do so I don't lose a TON of contacts?

I am assuming you haven't used Hard-SPL yet? You have more to do than just flash a ROM

I've read on here you don't have to Hard-SPL to go with a new rom unless it calls for it and the Open Touch 4.0 supposedly doesn't need it. Am I wrong?

I had the stock tmobile rom, and I updated to Open Touch 3.0 without Hard-SPL and mine runs fine. I think for other roms, you may have to, but usually the rom will specify it.

Newbie with my Wizard (XDA Mini S on 02)

Right so where do I start then... I hate coming into these things late as all the information thats about does get rather confusing. ROM's, Radio, Total Commander... urgh! And I'm not the most stupid of people, theres just so much info!
Right I have just got a 02 customise XDA Mini S
ROM 2.41.4.1 WWE date 9/3/06
Radio Version 02.07.10
Protocol Version 413.1.03
ExtROM version 2.21.4.101
I can only guess what all this is at the moment... I take it the ROM is the PDA software and the Radio is the phone bit?
My CPU comes back as a OMAP850 195MHz which I imagine is the same as everyone elses, as is the rest. Model WIZA200.
So I have my eye on a 2GB MiniSD but where do I start? Do I change my ROM? What software should I look at?
I like the idea of Wifi scanning, maybe a telnet client, Photo Managment, something like Picasa 2, And MP3 editing like, dB Power AMP or Mp3splitter. The rest I am unsure at present, I expect I'll need a MP3 player too.
As I'm a keen biker I'm looking for a GPS application? Any recomendations? Even the bluetooth GPS reciver too...
I hope this ain't to much and would love the help. Thanks.
Woah!!
Slow down a little!
Maybe i missed something, but you seem to have picked things randomly and decided you want them all!
The ROM is the PDA software, the Radio is (as you guessed) the phone software.
If you want to add a mini-sd card, just buy one and slot it in, its storage space, nothing more (like adding a hard drive to your PC)
As for what you want it to do...
Remember, its not a powerful PC so you wont be able to do a huge amount of processing on it, and while it is working hard on one thing, nothing else will work well (ie the phone!)
SatNav, i personally like TomTom, but there are several others, you will need a bluetooth GPS receiver to use any navigation software. There are loads of different types, i've never checked specs before buying, and never (not once) had a problem based on the hardware of the GPS receiver.
Your ROM is upto date (although there are other ROMs out there) so there is no real need to change it
If you have the O2 custom crap installed you may wish to remove it (search the forum, there are posts on how to...)
Basically decide what you want your phone to do, then look for software to do it.
You say you "like the idea of wifi scanning" but do you have a need for it? The built in software will find and connect to any available networks so do you need to scan and save networks? If you want to use your phone as an MP3 player, do you have a way to keep it charged? etc etc
Thanks Beeble...
You right about alot of stuff there, just hadn't thought about it like that though.

This bit as well, I imagine it rather eats the battery then, should be OK on my travels to work as I'll just charge it over the usb when I get there. Else I'll have to be carefull with the rest.
I'm still a little unsure about what to do about my 'today' screen though.
about your today screen....that´s just something you have to play around and find which plugins you like and find usefull. I got my wizard in April and still find new plugins that look better and work nicer.....
and since there are so many hackerfreaks in here there will always be nicer ones. Just keep on looking in to the forum every once in a while and you´ll find something new you like. that´s how i do it =)
Well, my advise is not to flash your ROM just yet. As far as I have read in this forum, getting the latest ROM doesnt seems to have much advantage over the older ROM. And, if you are a newbie as you claim to be, flashing ROM can be a fatal, if you do not know what you are doing.
Anyway, my advise is that, you read around the threads, and see what others are using for their phones, like weather forcast plugins, wifi scanner, and really mess up your phone, and prepare for hardreset (e.g. I have hardreset my phone in the first 2 weeks than all the rest of the time I had my phone).
As for your GPS, there are some threads with GPS discussion. Just do a search will do (thought the search function here isn't really helpful in many caes).
Anyway, for you information, there are way too much newbies in here opening thread like this asking for everything there is and expect answers to be fed to them. In most cases, it will be answered, but I think there are a lot of pros around tend to ignore threads like this (yours). For a more productive gathering, do searches.

I did have a search about but there was nothing that I could put my finger on, though I am tryin to keep a eye on the forum from day to day to see what I can pick up.
I know from other forums the phpBB search utility is a bit... naff.
If you have not already ordered your minisd card - I would highly recommend the mobymemory 2gb minisd - currently £39.99 here http://www.mobymemory.com/1GB_2GB_mini_SD_miniSD_Memory_Cards_fromSanDisk_and_MobyMemory.asp
tip on search - use the word 'and' between each word and it works much better.

2 things from me:
Normally, i'd be in the same boat as Hanmin, if you cant look, why should i tell you. But in this case you were just soooo chaotic i thouhgt i'd start you on the right lines!
and the 2nd. Scanning the forums every day or 2 is a great way of seeing what your phone "can" do. Your life is the only way of telling what you're phone "needs" to do.
I use sat nav about once a month. my phone is good enough for it. if i were to use it daily, then i'd buy a sat nav system (tomtom go etc, or even a 600mhz pda just for sat nav). I dont use it as an mp3 player, but occasionly play a track anyway - my ipod is much better at the job. I DO use the calender every day, and have a today plugin to see my schedule. i work shifts and have to be able to see if i'm working on the xday of xmonth in advance. If you dont have a calender, then the feature is no use to you.
Basically, you need to work out what you want the phone to do. if all you want to do is play & expirement for now, i'd suggest getting another phone (propper phone) and using that for calls while you customise (and break, and hard reset etc) your wizard (because you will, 100% certain!)

If when you get to work you have a computer (I was assume so from the the USB charging comment), why dont you listen to MP3's on that?
I don't want to put a downer on your post, but remember that as some one said above, its not as powerful as a PC and the more you try to do on it the more it will slow down, then you might start to hate it.
I use mine everyday as a phone, for the calander, and for task reminders, play the odd simple game and sat nav once in a while. For those purposes its a fantastic device. I have a computer to surf the web, an iPod to listen to music and a window to see how the weather is doing.
With regard to the today screen, depends what you want from the device..... so a search for "today screen" on the forums, there are a few threads with many peoples todays screens on here.
For my today screen I use SPB pocket plus and SPB Diary, both of which work very well
Happy playing!
Its just I spend alot of time on my bike and the Mindisc I have jumps a bit, though it still does the job. So I though I could maybe play mp3's though this, save carrying more then one device. I spose I could invest in a high capacity battery.

Easy question for ya peeps

I have the HTC 4000 from telus/canadian version. It looks the same as the titan. I'm curious is it the same PDA? I'm looking to change the mod to a iphone mod if thats even possible since it is touch screen or just something more snappier since my work mates are starting to get the same phone and would like to be better looking hehe.
PS. Is it possible to unlock my phone to change it to different mods?
the p4000 is the titan yes...
ppcgeeks.com has custom roms galore, find one to suit your needs
Has there been a successful iphone mod to the Alltel version of the Sprint Mogul? Is there someone on this forum who has the Alltel version with either the TouchFlo theme or iPhone theme?
If you're looking to spruce up your titan, I'd look into something like Wisbar Advance Desktop and Wisbar Advance 3 from lakeridge software, before I looked into custom roms. I dont think there are any custom roms yet for the titan but with those two programs you can download or even make your own themes, they have about a billion different iphone themes to download on their forums.
Here's one WAD that makes your phone look just like an iphone.
http://lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12180
Heres another example of what you can do
http://lakeridgesoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10348
There are some programs you can find here on xdadevs like Slide to Unlock and Pocketcm that will further add iphone like features to your phone.
Check out Lakeridgesoftware.com. I think they might cost like 10 bucks each but you can do some amazing things with both programs.
the iphone theme really isn't my style but heres a couple pics of it running on my titan, not the best shots in the world but gives you an idea
thanks jonnycross for the pics. did you use the instructions given out by torx on the lakeridge site? I appreciate any help. Thanks.
Meanwhile i think i will go ahead and purchase the programs that you provided me the link to.
yup, there is a readme file in the newest version zip that explains it all. You can download a free trial of wisbar advance desktop and wisbar advance 3 for like 15 days to try it out before you even spend any money. If you run into any problems I might be able to help you out.
hey jonnycross22, someone had suggested in another forum to update my rom before I do the iphone theme. Did you have to go through this as well? I get my phone tomorrow (hopefully) and I will check to see what rom it is running.
Also Alltel is advertising WM5 for the PPC6800. I don't think it should make a difference, should it?
I just want to make sure that I have the necessary things done to the phone before I get the iphone theme on.
wm5 should run it just fine, you shouldn't have to do any rom updating at all, the programs will run regardless, let me know if you have any problems getting it all up and running and i'll help you out
1. Is it possible to startup on the regular windows desktop, and then launch the iphone theme?
2. Does your iphone theme slow or freeze your phone?
3. I click on calendar and it shows my calendar on monthly view, but I cant close on the top right corner, like there isn't an exit button there. Any suggestions?
Alright, an update on installing the iphone theme on my phone.
I have gotten everything installed and linked the missing links to the icons. I also managed to correct the exit deal with the calendar, for some reason everytime i clicked the calendar it would load two of them. So I just unlinked and relinked the path.
When playing youTube videos i get the error "The file 'rtsp://rtsp.yoube.com/youtube/videos/... cannot be opened..." anybody with this problem? I'll try checking out some things and report back.
what program are you using to view the youtube files TCPMP? do you have a flash bundle pack installed?
just installed the flash bundle pack and it works great now. Everything works, but after getting a few calls and browsing a few minutes my phone will not ring and sometimes will hang after sliding to unlock. I can live without the s2unlock but any suggestions on why it will not ring when a call is recieved?
Honestly, I've had nothing but trouble with all the slide to unlock programs i've ever tried on the mogul, I tried a couple different versions and always had some kind of issues, either with it freezing, caller id, even text messaging, which is too bad because I really, really like the slide to unlock programs but in the end I just had to uninstall them because they had more problems than the program was worth :/ just letting you know you aren't alone, I tried just about EVERYTHING to get a fully functional S2U program working on the mogul, just didn't happen
Theme has been running successfully for a full day, although I had to uninstall S2U.
It really is too bad that S2U has too many problems, it was kind of a neat little program.
Thanks for the heads up johnnycross22.

Touch-IT worth it?

Just like the title implies I'm trying to figure out if the what seems like a rigorous process is worth it in the end? I had the spb mobile shell 2.0 for the trial time and I'm infatuated with it. I want something that changes my screen and options to look different just like it did, and touch-it seems like the best way to go. I've tried that iPhone look alike thing and that didn't appeal to me very much. My only grief with this is that Touch-IT looks like it requires alot of work in order to have it set up and I go through this kind of process enough with my psp if you know what I mean. I just want to know if it worth it basically, I dont know how to back up everything I have on my phone at the moment so that is also a big factor in keeping me from doing it. Any other applications out there that change the phone as much as spb mobile or the Touch-IT? If not some opinions on how great the program is please. Thanks and sorry for the long post. Btw I have a T-mobile wing if that matters.
Yes, totally worth it.
I've always been a huge fan of ITJE's work.
I don't know what you mean by it takes so long to set up. From flashing, to having a working phone takes 10-15 min...
It seemed long to me while I tried it because there was another program I needed that said would erase everything on my phone and I spent forever trying to find a way to back up my calendar, msgs and a bunch of other stuff on my phone. I still have yet to know how to safely back everything up too. It just really felt like alot because there seems to be some other application that's the bases of all this and I dont even know much about it.
The WM6.1 Touch roms are worth it. The Touch part of the ROM seems like a waste of space IMO so I disabled it.
As Dave said above, it doesn't take long to install the new rom.
I have never personally used the Touch It roms but have used Open Touch. I am extremely happy with it and would reccomend it to anyone looking to improve their performance and looks.
I broke down and deleted everything and got the touch, i do like it but so many things weird me out about it... Do you have a link for the open touch please? I'd like to see what its like.

Just Got My Mogul!

UPS just dropped off my new phone...and i'm excited!
However, i don't know wtf i'm doing So, I turn to you for help. I'd like to get this thing up and rockin' like today so hopefully all this goes smoothly.
1. How do i get Touchflo 2D installed(or any programs/mods for that matter?)
2. Necessary updates? What do i need?
3. WM 6.1(or current version)? Where do i get it and how do i install it?
4. Any tips? Ideas? "You should know's..."?
We'll start with that. I'm pretty sure i'll be a regular 'round these here pert's
Thanks in advance!
alright...so after enough research to figure things out i've gotten this far...
1. Done
2. got all v18 Manilla updates, anything else I need/shoudl get?
3. I noticed the default ROM is a bit sluggish, and have read a bit about thsi one -> "nueROM 3 6152-3pre3"...thoughts? where do i get it?
4. refer to #4 above
My NEW question is...Is there a way i can write up my contacts list from my old phone on my computer(faster typing) and import it?
oh yeah, and im having a hell of a time trying to change a manilla skin...how is that done? It says to place the contents of the folder in the windows directory, but that doesn't work.
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com
Nuerom 3 is available at Nuerom.com. You need to donate to get an account, just donate a buck.
also, being new to this...
what is "cooked ROM" ?
"cooked" refers to a ROM that has been assembled by people other than the original providers of the phone. I think 'hacked' is probably a more technically accurate term, but cooked sounds better.
The nueROM is a cooked ROM. DCD is another common ROM type as well.
Here: http://ppc.stoleyour.net/xv6800/ is a great tutorial on how to flash the latest DCD rom. This is the one I'm using. Very stable. I've heard promising things from the nueROM 3, but I'm not quite prepared to change over to that... mostly because I'm not looking forward to having re-install/configure my device.
I do have a question though, Did you get this phone in mind for SPRINT?, Because it was an offly awful time to get it, because the HTC Touch Pro is coming out on the 18th of this month (October)
And even if you werent seeking this phone for sprint, im pretty confident that some ROM Chef out there would be willing to make roms and carrie CABS for specified CDMA Networks.
Well goodluck with ur mogul, as im not having much with mine, im terribly regretting the fact i got it only because of its incredibly crippled RAM. Well have a good day
I think the latest DCD ROM is more stable and more free RAM available after the install. Also the kitchen is available and plenty of OEMs to put in the kitchen to cook into the ROM. There is a WiKi link in the sticky notes and how to upgrade your phone to the latest. I have been using the Titan (Verizon VX6800) for almost a year and love it. I don't think that the HTC Touch Pro is going to give you anything more than what you get with a Titan except maybe more memory to run apps. They have already got the interface working on the Titan (Manilla 2d) and are working on the Manilla 3d as well. I prefer the SPB Mobile Shell myself. More info on the Now screen for me to see email and calendar, plus the contacts screen is much better for either calling or texting.
Keep looking through this forum and the Titan Upgrading forum for all kinds of info and apps.
To be completely honest. I'm a little pissed at the moment about this phone. Keep in mind im a noob.
1. My texts' don't say the contacts name on them even after saving the name, just the number shows up. I failed math 3 times in a row in college so i don't do numbers (and im a flash developer...go figure)
2. SLLLOOOOOWWWWWW...this thing CRAWLS, at least with the original ROM. Whats the latest and greatest ROM out there?
3. Half of my SH*T isn't working right, granted i'm using all of this modded stuff, but even still...no internet, phone buttons are dumb, landscape isn't working right...
4. i apologize, i know there are more people out there that like this phone than don't like it...i'm just venting over the frustration of learning a new piece of software/hardware...
and also...i'd like to get some of this taken care of before i get too far into saving names, etc. in thsi thing and have them magically erase cause of a crash lol
Wrong but right.

You are quite wrong.... The Nue-rom 3 has MUCH more free mem upon boot. Nearly 27 megs. I find Nuerom MUCH faster.

after day one

I *love* it.. don't get me wrong.. but these are my gripes after one day, and I can't find any clear answers searching the forums.
the flipping clock.. literally.. it is annoying. how do you disable the clock animation? (I found a thread for this with a .cab file, but it wasn't proven to work on the Tmo USA version)
Opera will not let me click on links. this sucks all the way around- I can't go anywhere online on this huge beautiful screen. I refuse to use IE cuz.. well, it sucks on any platform.
the facebook app blows. (the only thing I miss about my iphone- so far) and I don't care for the touch.facebook.com or m.facebook.com cuz I can't click on links in Opera.
my earthlink and gmail emails were up and running in no time. but I had one hell of a time setting up my work email. we have our own domain- I had to set up the email through my t-mobile.com and then set it up on the device. as far as I know, it's all working fine now.
I have a mac. I used syncmate- I don't use activesync, but can't figure out a way to disable it- always running in the background. I do run XP through Parallels- but I don't use Outlook, so activesync is of no use to me.
why can't All Messages be the default screen for sms/mms tab? same for email- inbox list please?
typing- I don't like xt9 cuz I don't want word suggestions, but I do want spell check. I enabled the spell check with abc, but it doesn't do it.
I un-checked the box for "notify of open wifi networks" but it still tells me all about them.
whenever I restart, I have a voicemail and txt notification- but no voicemail, and some random txt message, and it takes the led notification a few minutes to clear out.
after coming out of a locked screen, apps are open and active that were not when I locked it.
anyone know of updates or easy fixes? I don't have the opportunity to start messing around with different ROMs for a few weeks...
I find the phone to be a buggy mess, wait for an update from HTC/Tmo hopefully or flash it.

You'll be waiting a loooong time. The best option (for the adventurous) is to simply flash one of the TMOUS compatible ROMs found here.
the clock flip cab will work.the only thing that will work on all other hd2s but not on yours is the ..51.. radios. in all other respects the phones are identical.
I know what you mean man. Previously to this phone, I had a iPhone 3GS 32gb which I traded for this phone. I had a lot of the same gripes as you have now. 95% of them probably can be fixed by HSPL'ing your phone and then flashing a different ROM on it. I am on the ATT network and so a lot of the apps that were on the phone I didn't need or use as they were meant for TMO users. So I flashed my HD2 with Kumar's lite rom. Not only did it stop a lot of the bugginess (stalling, freezing, random closing of apps, etc) but it made it a lot quicker. Might want to try that and see if it helps. The clock flipping was annoying as all hell so I just installed the cab to disable it.
I tell my friends who know me pretty well as being an iPhone addict that if the iPhone and HD2 were weapons, the iPhone would be a surgical knife. From the sleek look of the case to the smooth transitioning of the OS makes using it so easy. It doesn't have a lot of speed but with the thousands of apps and fluid movement within the phone, it feels great.
Now the HD2 on the other hand is like a broadsword. You have to put a lot of effort into getting it to do what you want it to do. With the 1ghz processor and 576mb of ram, it can do maul down anything you need it to. The HD2 you can't just pick it up and expect to use it to its fullest potential. It takes a lot of patience to learn your way around the phone. With the iPhone, you jailbreak it and modify it to be more aesthetically pleasing to your eyes and to your fingers. If you have ever just cruised cydia, you will notice not much is there in the way of performance modifications. Mainly just apps and packages that let you change how the phone moves and works for you. The roms, cabs, and registry tweaks you perform on the HD2 are more performance based I have noticed. Yes there are some cabs to help you disable or enable things but right off the bat it seems like you have to modify it. I attribute this to Microsoft's laziness in creating an OS that can perform as well as not crash at the same time.
But while you are waiting for that "oh so needed" port of Android, try kumar's rom. It might just be what you need.
I knew what I was getting into as far as WinMo is concerned... I've been reading the forums on many different sites getting ready for this.
the one thing I am not finding: absolute n00b, specific, clear, step by step instructions on how to do the hspl. I've jailbroken and rooted before- I was as nervous then and just don't wanna mess up. (I have to run anything like that with XP through Parallels on my mac, and I don't do it enough to know wtf I'm doing)

As I recall, you cannot flash via Parallels. You can with Bootcamp. I do it all the time on my MacBook Pro via XP sp3.
As a Mac user, I find that Missing Sync is great, but the iTunes integration is not the best. To transfer music, I use doubleTwist. I disabled the music sync plugins in Missing Sync, as I found that they did not do as good a job as doubleTwist. The two together has been fantastic.
I had the same opera problem here is how I fixed it
Download this on your windows computer

Do this
HKLM/controlpanel/pen and change the value of 'Hide' from 1 to 0.
Soft reset, then go settings tab - menu - all settings - system and you should see screen settings icon.
Then go to screen settings and enable "clear type"
that makes the fonts look better
now do this
Enable Clickable Links in Zoomed Out Opera
This reg edit allows you to tap on a link without the need for zooming in first.
HKLM/Software/Opera/Info/az_overview_threshold
Change value from 64 to 32
thats why you can't click the links, it wants you to be zoomed all the way in, the above fix, fixes that problem easily
Also search for the cab, duttys task manager, its excellent
Where is the clear type setting, is that in Opera... just for 9.7? I'm running 10 anything comparable there?

I *love* it.. don't get me wrong.. but these are my gripes after one day, and I can't find any clear answers searching the forums.
the flipping clock.. literally.. it is annoying. how do you disable the clock animation? (I found a thread for this with a .cab file, but it wasn't proven to work on the Tmo USA version)

Opera will not let me click on links. this sucks all the way around- I can't go anywhere online on this huge beautiful screen. I refuse to use IE cuz.. well, it sucks on any platform.

Use Opera 10. Its a lot faster and easier to use overall (click links included). If you can live without pinch to zoom, it blows the iPhone browser out of the water.

Use the facebook full site. Its very much useable on the HD2 thanks to its screen size and processor speed. Plus if you use Skyfire with it, you have full flash support and will be able to use all of the facebook fullsites functions! (can't do that on the iPhone)

why can't All Messages be the default screen for sms/mms tab? same for email- inbox list please?

The energy ROM I'm using has the option of defaulting to the classics SMS view. There are cabs out there that allow you to do the same.

The XT9 keyboard sucks hard. It doesn't auto correct nearly as well as the iPhone. I turn it off. Fortunately for me, 3 years on an iPhone has made me proficient enough at typing on a touchscreen, and I hardly make mistakes on it anymore. There are alternative keyboards out there that people are using, but I haven't tried them yet. Swype apparently works really well, but again, I'm accustomed to typing on a touchscreen.

I don't have that problem, although I keep my wifi off. T-mobiles 3G network is really fast and stable in Houston. If you can keep it off, that might be your best bet.

anyone know of updates or easy fixes? I don't have the opportunity to start messing around with different ROMs for a few weeks...

I haven't had any of these problems. Most of the problems you're having are attributable to the stock ROM. Once I flashed the rom, things started running perfectly. Its a pretty easy process...just as easy as updating the firmware on the iPhone, and it only takes about 10 minutes. Its A LOT easier than jailbreaking an iPhone.
Other than that, most of the problems I've encountered were fixed with cabs (even prior to flashing the ROM). Hopefully people will chime in on other fixes, but if not, search is your friend.

An analogy that I used in another topic is that if the iPhone and HD2 were cars, the iPhone would be the automatic, the HD2 would be a stick-shift.
The 'automatic-iPhone' appeals to a wide variety of people because its a simple, intuitive device. Most people can pick it up, and figure it out right away. If people find something is lacking on the iPhone, they can easily access the App store and hopefully find what they need. Having gone from a windows mobile phone to the iphone and back to a windows mobile phone, I realized eventually that a lot of the Apps on the iPhone are adding functions that are innate in windows mobile...and while the iPhone Apps are prettier, they usually don't have as much function/utility as they would on WM.
The 'manual-transmission HD2' appeals to power-users who want to get a lot of use from there phone, are somewhat technical, and those who realize that by tinkering a little bit, they can customize the experience completely to suit their needs. Windows Mobile is more cumbersome to use initially, and isn't as intuitive, but once you get the hang of it and learn how to manage your resources, you can capitalize on how much more quickly you can jump between tasks, and flat out how much you can do on this device. Sense does a great job of streamlining your core functions (phone, text, email, twitter etc) and I really like how you can check these things very quickly. Its also nice to know that if I ever need to 'pop the hood' and tweak some things underneath it, I can.
The point is, it may not work perfectly for you initially, but you can tweak it to work perfectly. With the iPhone, a lot of functions are kinda half-assed, and I missed the 'mobile PC' functionality of the HD2....my main gripe with the old Wm phones is that the hardware couldn't keep up with the software...not an issue with the HD2.
if this were a BlackBerry, I wouldn't have started this thread... but it's a WM device, I've only had a Treo before, and didn't really get into changing anything about it, and then gave it up for BlackBerry, which I did tweak, and the MT3G, which I did root and tweak and ROMs and everything.. I never did anything but jailbreak and unlock the iphone so I could use it on TMobile
I don't know how to do the hspl or change registries... install a .cab? no problem.. but I can't find clear instructions on how to do the hspl and the install a new ROM.
and- I'm on a mac... running XP through Parallels for all purposes.
if someone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it.

You won't be able to safely/effectively flash ROMs via Parallels. I would not do it, because there are reports of bricked HD2s via VM flashes. It's safer to use Bootcamp. That's what I do. I have an XPsp3 partition with all my phone stuff there (Radios, ROMs, MTTY, HSPL, etc.) and it works like a charm.
so I found a thread with noob instructions.. looks like I'm gonna have to fire up the old HP in the corner.

Would you mind posting a link to the instructions you mention, so people who find this thread in the future can get to it easily? Thanks
