Hi there,
Normally when I flash my rom and the device reboots automatically, I remove the battery when I see "Smart Mobility", place the battery back and do the hard reset.
I was wondering, is this the right way to do it? It sounds like you could mess up the phone by doing that.
never heard that... But I always do it the secure way: let the phone finish booting and then shutdown + hard-reset... costs you 2 minutes
regards
Personally I remove battery at smart mobility screen and hard reset before phone goes to automatic setup. I've flashed hundreds of roms with no issue doing this....plus it saves me a couple mins each time
Why Hardreset?
why is it necessary to make a hard reset ? When i flash my new ROM the HTC does make a hardreset itsself - or am i wrong with it ?

Flashing a ROM, cleans only some of the files on the device, if I am not mistaking. If you do a hard reset, then you delete the extra "bagage", that the previous ROM left.
Cheers.
another silly question ...
Yes I need an answer dear Moderators and other senior members who have deeeeeep knowledge on this flashing pain...
Do i need to flash also radio ? or just flashing a rom will be enough ? I want to flash a ROM but I do not know if I need to flash radio same time ????
Please enlighten me about this issue.
Thanks in advance for your precious time.

Radios and roms have nothing to do with each other, you could use 100 diffrent roms with your stock radio and there will be no problem, on the other hand diffrent radios mite give you better power management or reception
Personaly i`ve flashed 50+ roms and never hard reset anytime.
I`ve never had any issues and only suffer the same bugs that everybody else in the threads are suffering...

hi guys
my blackstone behaves strange from the last time a flashed a new ROM:
-my camera only works from time to time
-sometimes the screen(or the entire phone maybe) dosent boot up( I put in the charging clable and leave it, and when i come back the screen doesent light up, i try to reset and nothing, I pull out the battery and still nothing it only vibrates)
could this be a software problem or should I send it back for warranty?
Did you flash an upgrade of your official (stock) rom? What kind of rom did you install?
Anyway, backup everything, download the rom again, flash again, hard reset (you will lose every data on your device, hence the backup), boot, restore contacts, test your phone.
If everything works fine, the problem was caused by a bad flash or by some program you installed.
Good luck
it wasn't the official one, i flashed energyROM leo( the latest one)
i tried reflashing another one but not official
and I hard reseted it and the same, the camera doesent work
im gonna see later if i the flash official one fixes something
btw is there someplace i can get official vodafone ROM? because i coulden't find only orange...

Did you follow proper guide for flashing? i.e. did you use USPL or HSPL? Stock roms can be found here

Ahem... good to know...
u used USPL i flashed it a couple of times before this and it worked fine,
i dont know, im gonna flash it woth official one and see if it continues if not im gonna send it to warranty ( if i still have it ) thx
It has nothing to do with the ROM, maybe the download was corrupted, but with the way you flashed (USPL/HSPL, rom on storage card, etc) and if you did a hard reset (or two hard resets).
As the mighty though Fallen Spartan said, follow the guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
you could also revert back to a stock-rom and reflash
did u find out the problem, mine works for about 6 hours and then goes blank , i take the battery out for 20 mins and restart the device and it boots up ok, its proper wierd
If you're using the latest Energyrom with 6.5 23081 then the problem is a bug with this build from microsoft.
It is a known issue in the WM 6.5 thread that the latest WM6.5 23081, 23085, 23502, 23504 has a bug where the phone does not turn back on from suspend. i.e. when the screen is blank and you press the power button to turn it on, it does not turn on and you have to reset the device. That's why I have not upgraded yet.

To all Prophet users
I flashed this SPL in the belief that it would improve the quality of the phone, but since doing this it went completey bananas with the following faults.
1. would hardly ever power up.
2. when it did power up more often than not it either went into bootloader, hung on splash screen or on the windows screen.
3. had to keep hard reseting until it did work.
4. would lose programs at random.
5. unable to flash shipped NVID rom.
6. flashing hardSPL made no difference.
7. unable to unlock CID using lokiwiz2b.
8. flickering screen.
9. battery lasts about 10 hours if your lucky.
10. battery won't charge unless removed for about 20 minutes.
11. possibly lose Wifi.
12. can not downgrade SPL.
Basically avoid this SPL like the plague. It was intended for the Charmer and not the Prophet.
The only way I sorted it out in the end was to bin the motherboard. A bit drastic I know but luckily I had a spare.
If anyone does have a solution perhaps they would be kind enough to share thier knowledge as I believe a lot of users have had the same problems.

Hi All, I'm a newbie and I'm looking for some guidance as I've broken my 3 week old HD2.
I've just flashed it with the new Duttys Leo HG V.08 5.2.23529.5.5.0] rom and done a hard reset but when the phone comes to the end of the 'preparing your phone' process it reboots and hangs on the white HTC screen!!
I've tried several time to re-flash from the pc and the SD card but the flash won't load.
I just wanted to pose the question before I send it back to HTC.
Any idea would be appreciated, Thanks.

Sounds like a bad flash - I have used Dutty´s HG 0.8 without any troubles.
Did you try to go into the bootloader (turn off device, vol. down + power on at the same time) on the phone, to connect it only then to the PC through USB/active sync?
How to Fix
I had same problem with this ROM. I put my phone in boot loader (volume down + soft reset) and flashed a different rom. All now ok.
Hope this helps
Guys, I think the title of this thread is misleading, flashing incorrectly any ROM would give you that result, any error from downloading to flashing can get your device in a temporary and reversible trouble, just put your device in bootloader mode and flash it again, with another ROM, you can try v 0.8 again but i would recommend you to download it again.... anyways... you do have HSPL right?
You have bad radio ROM version, use recommended Radio for Dutty´s ROM

Hi,
I think personaly that when peoples are taking time to help you, the minimum respect is to answer to the questions and give us the result of our comments!
WE (the forum) are helping you! Handling like you do will not encourage others to help you!
Have a good day!
I think this is Radio related. I have had numerous people have the same problem upgrading from older 1.48, 1.66 etc with stock radio and the get this same problem. Almost 95 % of these have been corrected by flashing the TMOUS Radio 2.08.50.08.02 Radio. Then flashing the ROM again. I started a new Thread asking for input from others and when this is confirmed 100% then I will change the title of the Thread to Warning.
Resolved
Thanks to all the reply's with advice to my post. My HD2 is now back up and running.
Basically after leaving the device on charge for 2 hours I then tried another re-flash from my pc which worked first time.
At the time of the initial flash the battery was show 86% so it's odd how charging the battery could resolve the problem - I'd previously tried 5 other ROM's over a 3 week period with no problems but this is my first v.08!!
I choose a Dutty ROM as I'd read a number of good posts about his work and I must say this ROM seems fast and stable so it difficult to put a finger on a cause - Either way I'm happy - cheers.

I'll second that notion. We certainly don't want to mislead anyone about the excellent quality of Dutty's ROMs.
I have my Leo for 1 month. I flashed it (HSPL), installed cooked ROM and everything was fine. Than few days ago I installed new version of ROM and then the problems started...after every soft reset, ROM "restarted" (every tweak or installed program disappeared nad the phone looks like after installing new ROM) and after few resets it is stucked on the first screen (with numbers of radio etc.) and wont move further.
Can anyone help?

I know it's a pain, but have you tried a hard reset since this started? If not, give that a go. If you're still having problems then I'd recommend not using the ROM that you currently have.

Wish I could, but all I can see is only white logging screen...phone doesnt react at all.
You can flash from the memory card without the need to start the device up and connect to a PC. That's what he's suggesting. I don't know how to do this myself, having only done it via ActiveSync, so I can't tell you how to do it. I do know that you put a ROM image in the root of your storage card and reboot the device, but there's more to it than that. Have a look in the ROM forum for more advice (unless someone can help you here, of course).

you dont have to have a booted phone to flash roms over usb. Just boot to bootloader and wait for the 'serial' to change to 'usb' then run your flash.

So I use the Kumar roms and I was wondering, if I flash from version 1.5 to 1.6 of the same rom is it still necessary for me to do a hard reset? Or is it any time you update the rom, you must do a hard reset? What happens if you don't do a hard reset?
Thanks!
You don't have to do a hard reset but it always ensures that are no old sys files left that may have been updated in the version. It will help prevent any bugs or glitches from occuring but hard resets are not required with a new flash.
Or just run task29 first and u wouldnt have to hardreset...
lol, doesn't Task29 delete EVERYTHING? I mean, technically you're right, I wouldn't need to hard reset if I do a Task29.
Basically, I don't want to have to re-setup my phone every time I want to load the latest ROM.
Since it's the same ROM just updated it should be fine right.... right?

Well every time you flash a new ROM even if its just a newer build of what you already have it still wipes you phone and is basically the same as a hard reset. The reason why it is recommended run task 29 is because there are files that a hard reset DOES NOT remove that you dont want to have interfering with the new build. So I guess Im confused why are you worried about a hard reset if you just flashed and theres nothing on your phone to reconfigure anyway. But look into a UC program that will install everything that you want as the phone sets up for the first time so you dont have to do. Makes it much easier.

You have to reset everything if you want to flash a ROM. There is no getting away from it.
I need to learn to use UC better or even Sashimi.
I HATE having to set everything back up after a new rom flash.
But yes, I would agree you should be running Task 29 before each flash...although I was puckered up the entire first time I tried it.
Maybe I'm a strange guy but I never do a hardreset after flash and I never experienced a problem for not doing that.
I just don't believe in it and I jump from build to build to base to base while I'm cooking.
Does HTC or T-Mob recommends you to do that after a flash?

The reasoning is that when you flash, and allow the rom to instal, it doesn't do a task 29, so you flash, and then do a hard reset which forces a task 29, followed by the rom setting itself up for first use.
( Personally i sometimes do, sometimes dont. In my experience I seem as likely to get a good rom without doing it as getting a bad rom after doing it. Seems pretty hit and miss)
A flash is actualy doing the same as Task29, but when you use only Task29 it wipes out the phone internal memory and you have nothing.
During flash the rom gets formatted and the new data will be written.

so task29 is not really something necessary, if you flash and hard reset right after?
Sorry for the newb question, but coming from excalibur to kaiser to raphael and now hd2, it's the first time I heard of task29, so just wanted to check if it's a big deal or not!
Yeah, I've heard mixed talk about Task29. I actually would really like to know what it is exactly. Why is it called Task29? Is it the same for all phones? I know you have to run a program from your computer to do it (Well, atleast that's what I think) I've never been brave enough to search for it and really understand it. Just saying "Task29" is kinda scary sounding!
Task 29 is a commando you give with MTTY to wipe out your phones internal memory.
MTTY has many commands and some can realy kill your phone as it can touch the bootloader if you give the wrong commands.
A device without a bootloader is dead.
Maybe other people think different about this but I recommend to use it only incase of a emergengy, to fix a corrupted flash.

THANK YOU!!! First time I started flashing (Kaiser) i did as advised. Ie. hard reset... then I quit doing this IMO absolutely unnecessary step and never noticed any difference.
The device memory will hard-reset and format everytime I flash it anyway.
Why should be two formats better than one?
Once you format hard drive, it's formatted. No need to format it again.
When people say "some files don't get formated" I'd like to see a proof. What files? What program did you use to view these files? If there is no such, HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW then????
