Hello,
I'm getting really excited about my HTC P4350 more and more. First I wanted to throw it away but since I started tweaking now 2 months. I got a series of questions.
1) Would it be faster in speed. To native install software like advanced config etc.
2) Where can I find a series of unlock screens?
==> S2U2 "iPhone-like Unlock Screen" = NO GOOD. Makes the HTC Freak
3) Anyone got a series of keyboards to replace the stupid looking standard one. So I can just type on the screen instead of using the pen. 'I installed one previously and it went fubar when i selected it it was just a white screen with no keyboard showing and another one i installed when i pressed the keys nothing happend.
4) Also I've installed "MotoV2Wing6.5" in previous ROM's I could install instantly the "cool" black bars instead of the classic. But with this rom they won't install, any suggestions. Also the blue skin wich is used in menu's "me no like" so I was hoping that could be turned into black.
5) After booting the splash screen and the boot screen there's a white window before the phone starts. Any idea how to get rid off that.
6) Like in windows OS there is the command line : msconfig, to select start up programs is there any way of leaving out programs to get the HTC to start up quicker.
7) The bootscreen and the splash screen. Are they both necessery will the phone be faster if you leave one of them out. And how you do that.
8) I saw on a pic that someone had changed the color of the keyboard is that possible without opening the htc?
9) And one of the most important questions. The keyboard I've download a dutch keyboard fix, since I think that I have a dutch P4350 (I think) but the fn keys are still showing up ****ed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366756). So my keyboard is like this.

That's the first line.
As final statement. I really support this forum, I like it very much it's kind to his users and very helpfull. I really want to stress 2 to respect the "Cooks" because what they do is Pwn Windows in everyway and they always want to build better and faster Rom's and that takes a lot of personal time. And I think what they do is really GREAT. So what I am tryin to say is.
THANKS A LOT!!! <3
Best and kind regards,

I got a questions, the first screen is the splash screen or the boot screen?
Answer to 1)The ROM that you have chosen is inherintly slow because of the Moto Home stuff. They tax both the RAM and the processor terribly.
Answer to 2)Just use the lock screen that comes built in with WM6.5. It's simple and just works.
Answer to 5)That white box you see is some kind of error, re-flash to a different ROM or hard reset to make it go away.
Answer to 6)Just navigate using file explorer to ROOT\Windows\Startup and delete whatever you don't want to run at startup there. Please note that there may not be alot here, and most if not all of the HTC stuff NEEDS to run at bootup in order for your device to work.
Answer to 7)Yes, they are both neccesary. If you remove them, all you will see is a black screen for the same amount of time that you saw the splash screens. While these screens are shown, the OS is being loaded into RAM, so its a neccesary thing.
Answer to 8)No, you cannot change the color of your keyboard without taking it out of your device.
Answer to 11)PHM Registry editor. Its small and just works.
boot screen then splash screen

Hello one and all.
I have been looking at this forum for about 1 week and i'm still none the wiser. This may be because I have no idea what im doing and I am a little worried about making rom changes as I have no experinace of this.
I have a 02 exec. Which i am happy with but its a bit slower than I thought it would be. The phone seams to mess around when answering.
I have booted it up as normal on the basic setting.
A few questions that I have :-
What is the best setting to boot up on basic or corperate with the code ?
What reg changes are critical to boost performance ?
Any Software that I should get for the Xda ?
VGA settings do I need to change them ? What effect does it have.
Any advise would be good. If it could be given in a format my 2 year old could understand that would be good for me.
Thank you in advance
You'll find a wealth of information on each of your questions by browsing & searching the posts already on this forum.
thanks moandal that's why I posted.
1 post says basic setup another say corporate. 1 post says hack this that and the other. another says not to.
I'm new to pocket pc.
these forums do not make it clear what is best.
example radio version 1.06 or 1.08 at least 3 posts on here saying each one is better than the other. I have no idea.
all I was asking for is some guidance as to which set up has worked best for people.
@CRJL you've one up on me mate - I did not even know this thing had two modes!!!
BTW, why is that? Someone mentioned somewhere a corporate password - how to enter this & why would I want it.
BTW CRJL, I agree with you, these little devices are very confusing, espcially because the front end software (WM5) is soooooooo labourious!
Andy
when you hard reset the thing. after all the rom stuff loads up it gives you the choice of basic set up or corporate. it selects basic automatically after 20secs.
if you tell it corporate then you have to put the code 0506 in. this the uninstalls some stuff off the exec. you loose mms and all the gprs an 3g settings for conecting to the net. (i don't know what else it does) some of the people in the forums say it makes the exec faster. I could not really notice any difference.
you loose a few applications as well.
until I learn more I'm staying in basic.
I find these forums are for more advanced users so the simple questions tend to get missed. (im talking abot my first post) still not had a reply answering my questions

for this you should first make a hard reset (carefull, with hard reset you will loose all data!) by pressing both app buttons and reset at the same time.
When it starts up, after the installation countdown shows up you should make a reset to stop the automatic setup.
Now you have a machine, which is only basic setup. See how you like the things in there.
After you now enough about this, you can make same hard reset again and start the corporate setup. Then see, how you like this setup.
After this do same with basic setup.
In total you have then an idea, what you can have with the 3 different setups.
Now you can decide, which of the 3 setups you want to start with. After this, you should read the posts about Extended Rom, how to unlock it, which programs are in there etc. Then you get an idea for example how to install some software in the basic setup.
Also, you can add some programs from other Roms. For example I have an MDA Pro and I added the I-Mate Backgammon game to my setup.
Try out and see what customizations you want and need, which you do not want.

Basically, this does not really make difference. Forget about reg changes. Performance depends on running programs and setup - see above.
As far as I know, o2 installs some app in the basic setup, which makes the device slow. As I never tried o2 rom, I do not know, if this is true.

read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31697
here also I recommend to try out the software and just keep the ones you like.
In total I would recommend you to create a directory on your PC where you put all the setup and cab files, which you want to have in your final setup. After trying out all, make a hard reset again and install the files from this directory. This prevents any junks to be left behind from your previous tries.

I think, you get more problems than it helps. Some programs appear too small on the screen. And when you make a Romupdate this does not work anymore.
I recommend not to install any VGA Patches. Instead just set the text size to more small and search in this forum for some registry hacks to change system font etc. and see if you like it, when the font is more small (this is good for Opera or PIE as you can view complete page!)
Nice reply, thanks mate!

Andy (thicky wicky Blacky wacky Adder)
thank you. I will give the 3 setups a go. I did read that if you soft reset before the counter that video calling does not work.
will give it a go and see what happens I'm sure there will be a cab file on here to sort it out.
anyone wishing to add any pearls of wisdom fee free. I'm learning more and more all the time.
app buttons: the buttons on the keyboard, which have changing functions. these functions are shown at the bottom of the screen. These buttons can be found to the right and left of the red and green call buttons on the keyboard.
about video calling: yes, this feature is installed after you switch on first your device. it is activated with one cab file. If you can find out which cab file this is, you can install it manually in the basic setup.
The more i play with my MDA Vario, the more i get used to it, but the more i realise i'm a complete noob. I have been playing with/building/programing computers for years, but heldhelds are totally new to me.
I have had a look around, and this place seems to be where the pro's hang out. So could you kind people excuse my noobishness and answer some of my painfully noob questions?
I will start with...
1) Why don't programs actually seem to close when i 'close' them. Such as when i close Opera, yet it pops up again and again. I understand i can go into setting>system>memory and close running programs, but thats a pain to do all the time. So what the deal here?
2) At the top of my Today screen i have 5 larger icons accross the top which i would like to edit/remove/add new etc. I can go into settings>today>items and [un]check stuff that runs down the screen, but i cab't add new ones and can't see any options for the 5 larger icons at the top. Without instaling some kind of plugin, how can i change this?
EDIT: Ok, i see that 5 icons are part of something called just 'T-Mobile'. Any ides's how to change it and removing the pointless internet link thats that same os the hard button at the top of the MDA?
3) Is there an easy way to switch between running progams (like ALT+TAB in WinXP)?
To answer question 1 and 3:
Windows Mobile only minimizes programs by default. You can only close them, using the memory settings.
There are several Task-Manager and/or Close-Applications to override this "problem".
Some examples:
SPBPlus (www.spbsoftwarehouse.com)
Wisbar (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com)
SmallMenu (http://tillanosoft.com)
tMan (http://pda.jasnapaka.com)
vbar (http://vieka.com)
MagicButton (http://www.trancreative.com)
...
..
.
Just slap in a new rom or the customized T-Mo rom that's in the forums...
What do you want all the bloat that T-Mo (and all the carriers) put in?

Right, I've had the HD2 (well two of them now actually) for over three weeks so this isn't just a case of my 'not being used to the device yet'. I'm very used to it, so, moving swiftly along...
When typing on the super-sensitive keyboard, you know the one, where nearly every word needs editing due to errors......when I hit the delete button, all sorts of anomolies regularly occur. Typing is a real chore on this device. I get all sorts of characters appearing when I press delete, it is a real lottery and takes several attempts to actually delete anything. I have experienced this problem on both HD2s I've had, so this is definintely not a faulty unit. I am assuming that they're all like this?
Have you try with bsb tweaks and option decrease sensitivity of screen?

I installed the first version of that cab on my previous HD2 and found that sometimes buttons would not register and the whole screen would freeze momentarily etc. Also, the clincher, was that the screen was less sensitive in all apps, not just the SMS one. For instance, when sliding to unlock the handset it would take several attempts etc, this I could not live with. Is v3 any different?
Hi - if you read the link its not to do with removing the sensitivity as i didnt want that either it do do with alignment - I really cant explain it better then the dude himself. but if you holla at him im sure he will give you a better understanding of whats changed
Hi Everyone,
Found this great site looking for forums for the HD2, seems every other leads to here in some way another.
Got my HD2 on Monday with Virgin, so in 5 days I've come to find it an amazing piece of kit yet ultimately annoyed.
I've already got a list of problems and annoyances:
Having to double tap and go into the email fully so it appears read
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
When using the 'phone' keypad it types in numbers
The phone screen basically crashing so when you press a button it doesn't show the unlock screen. Thus having to take the cover off then the back, then the battery
Pressing the x in the corner of an app yet going to task manager and its still open
The over sensitivity when typing a text and showing words that don't make sense in the predictive text
Having to f**k about for ages to get wi-fi off grrr!
Having to install 3.5 compact .net. I still don't know how to do it
I understand there is a cab for the text and app for the wi-fi but surely it shouldn't be like this. I'm not a technophobe or whatever you want to call one and like to think I'm pretty clued up on tech, (That's why I bought the phone) yet I haven't a clue what a ROM does nor how to install them. I can just cope with cabs ha.
It seems Windows/HTC slogan should be 'There's a cab for that'. (not good)
Anyway rant over and Hello! I'm sure I'll be doing more learning over the next few weeks!

not to worry mate, this community is all about sharing and helping each other.
Hi there. I'll try to give you more "readable" info about the issues you mentioned. I'll just change the order of the questions...
Having to install 3.5 compact .net. I still don't know how to do it
You can use the official Microsoft link provided by 27firesnake, but you'll have to do some reading... The simplest way is to download a cab and install it directly on your phone. You'll fine one here (item #18). You should do this first, as many great applications (including BsB Tweak) need this system component in order to work!
I haven't a clue what a ROM does nor how to install them
Well a ROM is basically your operating system (Windows Mobile) + HTC Sense (homepage and tabs). You are currently an official RO (usually called "stock ROM" in this forum). What we need to know is what version you use? Most likely 1.43 or 1.48, which are not the latest from HTC. The most recent released ROM is 1.66 and runs smoother and might give you better experience overall, even though there no major updates (just a compilation of fixes). Anyway, some people manage to get "not yet released official ROMs" (usually called "leaked ROM") and are able to install them on their devices. The latest leaked ROM is 2.07 (that should appear on the T-Mobile HD2). Anyway, I would not recommend installing a leaked or cooked ROM for the moment, since you're still a newbie and just received your device...
Simpler answer: you should install the official ROM 1.66. Try to go on the official HTC website to do so. If your serial number is rejected, you should contact your carrier (Virgin) to know when you'll be able to download it. People here will advice you to install HSPL to be able to bypass this protection, but as I said, you should wait a bit more, when you know Windows Mobile more. To learn more about that subject, go to the link in my signature.
Having to double tap and go into the email fully so it appears read
Well this doesn't seem to be a problem, or I don't understand? The email appearing in the Mail tab are just "previews" of your email and you should tap to get in the "real" e-mail application to read them fully.
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
I don't understand. You're not able to answer to a text-SMS ?
When using the 'phone' keypad it types in numbers
Again, this doesn't appear like a problem. I mean, you should compose phone numbers when in the phone application. If you write the beginning of a number, you'll automatically see the contacts whose number begin that way. Anyway, if you prefer, you can use the People tab (then "All People") to choose a contact typing the first letter (instead of phone number).
The phone screen basically crashing so when you press a button it doesn't show the unlock screen.
Is it real crashes or just freeze? I mean, I you wait for a long time, like 1 to 5 minutes, the lockscreen doesn't come back? Many people, including myself, reported some freezes from time to time, but the new ROM 1.66 really improved thing on my side. You might look for this thread for more and this one too.
Pressing the x in the corner of an app yet going to task manager and its still open
OK, this is easy to solve. Just install the "Duttys HTC Task Manager". It will install a task manager and enable the closing of any application using the cross. You can find the cab here (tip #7).
The over sensitivity when typing a text
The latest ROM 1.66 decreases the sensitivity of the touchscreen. If you can't install it, the easy way to solve this is to install the (very recommended) tweaking application called "BsB tweak". There are a lot of simple tweaks you can ON/OFF. One of these is called "decrease sensitivity" or something like that. If it's still too sensitive, then you can install the fixes found here. Just to be sure you don't have a flawed unit, check if you touchscreen has the following problems (go see the youtube videos too).
showing words that don't make sense in the predictive text
I don't have answers for that one, but I know the predictive is not the best on this mobile. You have two options:
1 - improve your typing thanks to the less sensitive touchscreen (if you make less errors, the prediction will be more accurate )
2 - install an alternative keyboard like Touchpal or maybe Swipe...
Having to f**k about for ages to get wi-fi off grrr!
Well, there are numerous ways to solve this issue.
- you can install a shortcut on you home page for the (already installed) "Comm Manager". Comm Manager is already installed and was designed for you: it is a collection of ON/OFF switchers (wifi, bluetooth etc).
- you can install an application that simply switch wifi ON/OFF. Then you install a shortcut on your home page, so you simply tap it to enable or disable wifi. You can find an application like that here (along with a lot other more)
Hope this long post helps
Smaberg's WiFi toggle cab (sticky in the apps and themes section) is a godsend (as is the BT Toggle cab). I have the 20 shortcuts cab installed so that on the top row I have shortcuts to each of these on the homescreen, along with my two most used apps and main contact (girlfriend).
BSB tweaks is definitely recommended also.
When you type a name into the Phone dialler, it may show numbers, but it narrows your options by alpha, so providing you can spell the name you're after it works just fine. You'd have to have triple tap letter selection there otherwise, which is just far less efficient than whats on offer.
guy .. i have experience something in my device .. i was wondering why my device keep pop out the error msg like service.exe and the device.exe ..
it is quite annoying because everytime pop out those error msg .. i have to open the back cover and soft reset it .. it is very serious .. happened everyday for 3 to 5 times ..
Tapping to reply to a text yet nothing happens
Yeh, you have to wait (if lots of messages) for it to load above. You can see this by the scroll bar on the right becomming shorter.
Once it has finished loading those messages, you can tap and it will start composing.
But if you tap before those messages have loaded; it does nothing.
Hi all,
Thanks to all for contributing here - so much good stuff! I wanted to post this here to help others in my situation.
My wife and I got a pair of HD2's during the week. Absolutely loving them.
I was too scared of bricking two brand new phones so I set about removing all traces of Telstra and tweaking them to our satisfaction without flashing the ROMS. After a few days I'm pretty happy with the results so far:
From standard to these (at the minute, changing all the time!):
on imgur.com look at /DPgJT.jpg and /9qUiN.jpg (I'm link restricted..)
I would say that you can do everything you want with these phones without having to flash the rom if you prefer not to.
For anyone looking to de-telstrify their phones, here's some easy steps (from memory). I'm put together this little guide as there's just too much information to wade through at the start. All of these recommendations are subjective, stuff I like but you might not!
1. Get ActiveSync (if pc doesn't have it) and use it to connect phone, explore to phone's storage card. Copy cabs here to run from your phone.
2. Join these forums so you can download relevant cab files, add your experiences, etc. One way to find cab files listed below is by putting cab name (as shown) in google, then clicking xda forum links in the results.
3. Start with "Unlock_Quicklinks_Telstra.cab". Frees 3 front quicklinks.
4. Get "Co0kie.HomeTab_v1.6.1.cab". Consider installing Max Manila instead – you need to pick one or the other; I like Cookie so far- seems simpler, seems less theme oriented and more tweakable. I like the 3 pages of quicklinks side by side.
5. Get "CHTEditor.v1.6.1.CAB" which lets you edit cookie. Make a quicklink button for it. Go in and play with settings to your liking. (Don't touch what you don't understand for the moment, take it slow..) Can replace 'Telstra 3G' with whatever (I've got "Dave's HD2" in the screenshot) using 'custom operator text'.
6. Also make quicklink for file explorer – you'll be using a lot.
7. Get "HD2Tweak 1.2.0_English.cab". Create quicklink to it and then play with settings in there. You can use 10. – Device startup – animation to stop the testra vid that plays on boot. Faster bootup and one more ad gone.
8. Also create button for "hd2 soft reset" which comes with above. Any time you need to reboot after install, if the cab doesn't prompt you then can use this button. Very handy.
9. Get "Duttys Task Manager for Leo.cab" This makes a nice file manager tool in top right corner, good for killing programs.
10 Get "BsB Tweaks 1.6.cab" and you have it all covered. I like this one for 'Tap time' to stop accidental taps. Also under the menu you can enable shake for screenshots and can reassign the 'phone' soft button.
At this point you have lots of quicklink buttons for adding new stuff, and lots of tools installed to some of those buttons. There is some crossover with all these tweak tools but they seem to co-exist peacefully as far as I can tell and all have something to offer that the other doesn't have.
Now it's time to clean up a bit more.
*With cookies you can drag your quicklinks around to arrange them. Just hold them until they pop up in the add/remove screen.
*Set your slider options so only the slider elements you like come up.
*Go into contacts and delete all those pricey branded services that you won't ever use unless you're drunk – you can always get your mate to ring instead.
*Personally I hate being pushed towards things and stuff like 'sensis search' just makes me angry. So I fired up File explorer and navigated to My device=>windows=>start menu=> programs and started deleting stuff I don't want to see. From here I believe it's only shortcuts so nothing is uninstalled for the moment. (Do this at own risk though). Just hold your finger on the file and a menu will pop up and you can choose delete.
Ok at this point there's very little branded stuff left on the phone (that I've found yet). Time for making it look nice. This is totally subjective and almost all the options are on xda developers. I would recommend:
10. Make folders in your storage card: sliders, clocks, wallpapers, installed. Makes it easy to organise/change these (by reinstalling the cab file)
11. Go to the site ppcmods to download the cabs for great sliders and clocks. Very nice collection.
12. Get "V6 TEST 5 HD2 GSM Only 1.66 WEE.cab" for the colour icons at the top. Great mod.
13. "AM Slider trasparente con cornice Sense 2.5.cab" and "- Orologio Trasparente Antonio_Sense2.5.CAB" make the slider and calendar transparent respectively.
14. For backgrounds the best I've found is to install this patch "HQWallpaperPatch_v1.21_forManila2.5.1920.cab" so you can have fullscreen (no black bands at top and bottom)
15. Followed by installing "HDWall" onto your PC – you can use this to make any pic a cab file. It gives you a nice preview as well so you can see what will be under the clocks/calendar/etc. Great program.
That's it, appearance tweaked as you like it.
You'll probably want/need some other apps that have been discussed and linked to pretty well – this was intended more to be a getting started guide to get you to a place where you like the look of the phone and there's no angrifying stuff in your face.
Last thing I can think of – you need to go into mail, and in your inbox view, choose menu => tools(scroll down to see) =>options=>signatures and take out the "Sent by Telstra NExtG".
Hope this helps.
Will this work with the HTC Touch Dual 850/Neon 200?
Sorry dude, no idea.
By the way I've found 'Send-A-Card' in the messages menu - if anyone knows how to remove this, please post here. It's the last bit of Telstra-ware I can see embedded in the phone and I'd love to get rid of it!
Thanks for putting together a quick and useful guide. These are the first things anyone wants to do with a new phone (especially a Telstra one - they have so much T-junk!), and it's great not to have to wade through pages and pages of posts to find the basics!
Appreciate it.
so it works?? feeback please
I have google the .cabs?
I am from Mexico
regards
yup, all the stuff he's said works. u can find the cabs on here as well
nice guide, thanks mate! be awesome if you can link in the cabs once you can post links!
MyEmail
Is there a way to get rid of MyEmail link in mailbox list ?
D.
Hello yes it so easy, when you be on the mail screen, go to option then go to account setting, there you could delete any account that you want.
regards
Any idea on how to get rid of the "send from my Telstra NextG handset" signature at the end of all new emails? Annoying that I have to delete it every time.
Cheers,

Hi all,
Thanks to all for contributing here - so much good stuff!

Error with CHTEditor.exe - Help
I jsut received my phone the other day and am totally new to this. I read your Noob guide written by Kitestyle.
I have a Telstra model here in Canada. I loaded your Cookiehometab1.6.1. Worked fine. And then Tried your recommendation to load the CHTEditor.exe to the SD card.
Ran it and got an error:
"An unexpected error has occured in CHTEditor.exe. Select Quit and then restart the program, or select details for more info.
Details indicates this application requires a newer version of Microsoft.NET Compact Framework than the version installed on this device.
Am totally gray to this....recommendations appreaciated!
Thank you
Paul
the only way to truely de-Telstra and free your HD2 is to
1. HSPL3 -> removes CID lock
and
1.1 ( might want to do a task29 to really make sure ROM is squeaky clean )
and
2. Flash to official HTC WWE ( not Telstra branded ) rom, or any other cooked ROM of your choosing
its easy, and works well, i'm on Telstra NextG network, now running the official HTC english Hong Kong 1.72.831.1 ROM ( not Telstra branded ), and now have the ability to run any ROM i see fit, thanks to HSPL. Best part is, if and when you have to do a hard reset ( and you will at some stage ), all the Tel$tra nasties stay away....permanently
Hi
I may have missed this, but is there some way to change the websites displayed on the apps and downloads page, the one that comes up with the orange circle with teh white arrow
