Hi,
While messing around with my p3600 I got to turn on the password lock that turns on after a certain amount of inactivity on the phone. I can however not figure out how to turn it off again.
Can anyone help me ?
(it is not the sim pin lock I am talking about)

Start -> Settings -> Password -> uncheck "Prompt if device unused for".
You can also change the amount of inactivity time.

any other ideas
registry change maybe
Does anyone know where in the registry I can turn off this lock? I have tried to search for different words like password, lock etc. but nothing that looks related has turned up.
any help will be appreciated
I know the thread title says enough but I'm going to elaborate on what I am looking for.
I am looking for a looking for a lock program with password protection similar to the one that comes on our Wizards, but without the timed lock. I want it to only lock my device when it is turned back on from sleep mode and no other time. Basically I only want to have to type a password in when the screen is turned back on and not again until I turn the screen back on again.
Does anyone know of a program with this kind of functionality? I really need this because unfortunately, I still live with my parent and my Mom likes to go through my phone and look at all my personal data like call logs and SMS. It's become a nuisance and I really want to do something about it.
Thanks in advance guys.
Dan.
What's wrong with the time out one? I think if you were to do a 0 seconds of the built in password thingy, you can have it ask for a password every time you switch it on.
The built in one will only ask you password if your phone is not used for a certain period of time. the time out function is basically from the backlight and battery time out, nothing to do with the passwor.d

Well the problem with the built in lock function is that it will lock the phone after so many seconds even if the backlight is still on and it gets annoying when I'm doing something but get sidetracked for a few seconds and then come back and have to type in the code to unlock it again, even though it never left my hand in the first place. I'll play with it a bit and see what can be done with it but from what I have seen so far, I don't really like it.
I'm pretty sure it is based on you switching off (suspend) the phone or the phone switch (suspend) off itself, because the option is "0 minutes". It can't have the phone locked after it us unused for 0 minutes.

Heh... It worked. Thanks. If I set the backlight and power options to never turn off display then it will never lock the device but once I press the power button to turn off the screen then it automatically locks the device so that you have to type in the password before you can resume playing around with the phone.
Thanks again. I had never tried that option before.

My lock screen won't stay set to a unlock method. I have changed the unlock to patternpattern, pass code, and fingerprint. After a little while it goes back to just swipe. Even though, I'll go to the setting and it'll say it's still set to whatever method I have it set to. But for whatever reason the actual lock screen goes back to swipe. Also when it does work, the fingerprint reader is hit and miss. I'll have fingerprint and password or code and then the fingerprint reader won't even recognize I'm trying to use it. Anyone else having similar issues or know of a fix?

It actually is staying what you set it at.
Samsung as usual has set up some stupid defaults for this phone.
Go here and set it to Instantly and it will work as you expect.
Settings > Quick Settings > Lock screen and security > Secure lock settings > Secure lock time > Instantly with the power key or when the screen times out
With those settings every time you unlock your phone you will need whatever security you set.
With the default settings Samsung has it so your phone will only lock if you do not touch the phone for 10 minutes..... real secure there Samsung...
As for the fingerprint reader, when you set it up hold the phone like you would be unlocking it and use every part of the finger during the setup process.
I added both thumbs and index fingers using the tip, flats, and sides of each during the setup process.
If for some reason it does not want to read still, you can set up the same finger multiple times, do one as just the flat, one as the sides, one as the tip.

That's exactly how everything is set up on my device though. I have it set to lock immediately and did all angles of my fingers. Still won't keep the lock screen set and won't read the fingerprints. It doesn't give me a does not match message or anything. At least when that happens, I know it's trying to read my finger.

In that case I do not know.
You could try a factory reset, but I do not know if that will help.
If mine did that I would be returning it for a replacement.
Also make sure settings/lock screen/secure lock/smart lock isn't set to anything that's trusted.
Smart lock leaves the phone in swipe unlock if it recognizes your phone is at your home..or hook up to your Bluetooth, etc.

So after digging around some more, I found out what was happening. I have a Moto 360 paired to my phone. I had it as a trusted device and that's what was allowing me to do swipe while still having the lock screen set to something else. However, my fingerprint reader is still acting up. It's still not even trying to read my fingerprints.

Go to settings and search smart lock... It shows that if you ate home the screen stays unlock but if u leave anywhere it'll lock..you can turn the location off when. You get into smart lock
The same thing is happening with mine (SM-G935A AT&T). However, when I go to the secure lock settings, it keeps changing from lock instantly to the maximum setting (which shows as 34 minutes and 7 seconds). Smart Lock has been completely disabled by system administrator (I get my corporate email on my phone). Every time I go in and change the secure lock to instant, it reverts back within the next 30 minutes.

If you don't mind me asking, what device administrators do you have setup? Currently I have my company exchange policy, Lookout Mobile, AT&T Protect Plus and Android as registered administrators. I'm starting to wonder if its the combination of services like maybe the Protect Plus and Lookout.

I figured out the issue, at least for me. First I tried to disable both Lookout and ATT Protect Plus as device administrators but still the lock setting would revert to 34 minutes and 7 seconds. In my account settings for my corporate email, there was a link for all security policies. Sure enough, the screen lock policy showed as 2047 seconds which translates to 34 minutes and 7 seconds. I cannot change the option as that is the corporate policy set by the server.
This is an issue with Samsung s7 including the edge. Mine was playing up from the day I got it. I took it into carphone warehouse assuming it was a setting and the guy serving me basically said to send it back. I eventually got a refund from Samsung (it was painful) and then I stupidly bought another one of these overpriced, over hyped pieces of **** from John Lewis instead. I've always used windows (mobile (i.e. what I'd call old android and what XDA was made for) and then windows phone and briefly windows 10 mobile. From my short experience of using the so called best android phone I have to say gimmicks aside, the features both phones share, windows destroys android, emails, documents, ease of use, fluidity, user experience....oh and a working lock screen. Not happy and it's my own fault, I fell for mass marketing and believing the hype.
I think I found the answer

If you have a device like a Bluetooth paired with your s7 edge, make sure that smart lock isn't on. Once I changed that that setting, it stays locked.
Can you describe how to find this page (that showed 2047 seconds)? I want to see if my company IT will change this.
Hi I have s7 edge, here's the problem is I cannot touch the screen, already do hard reset and rebooting still the screen cannot touch. I could not unlock my s7 edge.
Thanks for the help

I made sure i made my password effective immediately (it was set to 5 seconds) after you lock your phone and it didn't work.
Then I realized that I didn't restart my phone yet.
Lock screen was effective immediately after I restarted my phone. Solved my case!
Fixed
Its quite simple, it is smart as samsung has made s7/edge to recognize you and let your phone stay unlock whenever it is around you. Once, it has been unclocked by you, you dont have to set in the passcode each time to look at your phone. But dont worry, it will revert back to lock mode once it noticed that you'v set it aside on a surface i.e leaving it. Should you want to make your phone locked at all time whenever you want it, simply change the setting as follows: Setting > Lock screen and security > Secure lock settings > Smart lock > (enter your pin) > On-body detection > set it to off. Whallaaa!! Problem solved.

Go to settings/lock screen and security/other security settings/trust agents and turn off Google Smart lock option.
You are back to instant phone lock.
Cheers🖒
Hi guys,
I was trying disable the fingerprint at night when i arrive at home enabling only screen lock with pin, i can't found any way to do that so i started to reboot the phone before sleep (when a phone is restarted, the first unlock screen must be by the pin code). Now I'm trying do this automatically, i want know if has some way to do this without root since the tasker need a root.
thx
You can always unlock the phone with your PIN or by fingerprint. But after a reboot it needs your PIN for security reasons.
You can set this condition without a reboot by enabling "show lockdown option" in "Settings > Security & location > Lock screen preferences". Then press and hold the power button and klick on "Lockdown". Now your PIN is required to unlock the phone for the first time - without reboot.

What kind of automatization are you thinking of? At a specific time? You can try the app "Tasker"...
