Is the slow loading of the message-threads only a "feature" of Manila 2.5. I can not say I experience this with the 2.1.
I simply love Duttys releases, but I can not stand the slow loading when I am going to write a new message to a person whom I have sendt many messages with before. I now have to wait about 30-40 seconds before being able to write anything. Is there any fixes for this issue?
I have the same problem and it is very annoying Anyone knows a fix? I used to use CMYLXGO's disable Rhodium SMS app for my HTC Touch Pro 2, but this isn't compatible with Diamond 2.
Probably not, the Manila 2.5 is made for HD2 running on a 1ghz processor and 448 RAM. There will always be lag on phones running half the speed and juice..
Yes. Message lag and hanging are known issues in 2.5 and have been dicussed in the developer's forum. If you want real stability, stay with 2.1 for now.
Solution (partly)
check out Zenyee, will take you back in the same sms screen as 2.1 for creating sms, but on the people page checking a friend with a lot of sms will still take a very long time.
Therefor no 2.5 for be, back to 2.1 then everything is fast(er).

..but if it's more a problem of bad programming. Half of GHz should be enough to run such a simple app smoothly. Also it maybe is a wm problem, after 200-300 long messages (>200 letters and more) original ms-sms also gets slow without manilla.
Only solution is using PIMBackup and store old messages.
Hey,
Im having this problem in Official 6.5 Sense 2.1. I very frequently get freezes and hangs when opening a msg in the text application. Its very annoying, sometimes it takes up to a 2 minutes to release from the hang. As for memory the ram suggests the device is operating at 54%
Man.

Hello Folks!
I tried several WM 6.5 roms and always had a problem with HTC Messaging.
It is really, really laggy. Please can someone advice a stable ROM with Sense 2.5 that does not have this issue?
(or Which ROM is the best and fastest, please?)
Thank you!
yeah it will be nice but I don't think that there is solution. It is not the ROM' s, but speed of the device. sense 2.5 is for Leo with almost double processor speed
It's recommended not to restore old SMS with PIMBackup or similar. Maybe this will cause your issues.
Well if I go to delete messages screen where also all the messages are shown it is moving flawlessly without any lag, so I bet the lag is not a matter of processor resources.
Is it possible to cook a ROM with messaging from previous manila? It would be really huge improvement!
maybe? but in the all messages preview, not all messages are previewed but few from a conversation of many? (just checked that and was surprised my self)
regardless processor I am still convinced that is the speed because it takes time to load all messages from one contact, picture of them and your own and place them in every single message.
in one conversation I have about 30 msg. and after couple of iretating sec. it runs smooth.
It will be great with old msg in new ROM's
Does anyone know why text messaging window freezes in WM6.5 and 6.5.1?
I recently updated to 6.5.1 and noticed the text messages screen still freezes. How does Microsoft manage to mess up something that was working perfectly in 6.1 and previous?
Don't get me wrong, I like 6.5 builds but for a text frenzy guy it gets kinda annoying...
Does anyone know what is causing this?
Thanks
hmm. thats odd
i'm quite the texter too (being a 15 year old guy trying to get the ladies, )
but its not happening with my version.
ps what rom are you running?
doesnt seem to happen in nfsfan's...
Happened to me when I ran WinMo 6.5.
Manually delete all your old messages. It will speed things up

I think it has something to do with caching all of the messages. I used to have the problem, but I noticed that NFSFAN's newest 6.5 rom doesn't have the issue. You may try that.

I was on the newest NFS rom before moving on to vin's rom... it also had that slow texting... i'll prolly just reduce the amounts of texts in on my phone
naw. i just deleted some of the texts and moved some of the cab files to my sd card. now it works way faster, although there is barely any noticeable lag.
ps the keyboard i'm using also has lag, but its managable.
ezinput 2.1 qvga.
The HTC message really lags me pretty badly and use alot memory. Many times it hanged for a while. Anyone having the same experience when trying to sms?
if you are running manila 2.5 try this
i am experiance the same problem using manila 2.1 but only intermitantly
As has been noted around the forums, the Manila messaging client (although handy and nice looking) is a laggy piece of software when it starts to have more than around 20 SMS's.
What we need is a program that would scan the SMS', and if there is more than 20, the 21st onwards get moved to an archive folder. Similar to what the iPhone does. Trying to handle 200+ messages is a real headache. (I used to dabble in 500+ plus delete down to 20-30 now)
On the most powerful phone, the HD2, a simple messaging app lags to hell so I have to disable the Manila messaging client and use the standard WinMo one, although practical, isn't very intuitive.
not any interest in anything like this?
I used to have issues with the SMS lag on the HD2 and was manually archiving using MyPhone, which is great for that.
However, that was when I was using stock ROMs (or <= 1.66 ROMs at least).
I flashed one of Dutty's ROMs (HG v0.8) because I wanted all the Sense upgrades, and all my SMS problems have now gone. I've got over 500 SMS on my phone at the minute, and it exhibits no lag whatsoever.
Maybe look at a new ROM. I would strongly recommend a 2.0+ ROM as they seem a lot more stable than the earlier ones.
Hope this helps

It's a start at least. Maybe Dutty did some "special magic" with his Holy Grail ROM. Ah well, keep going mate - you'll sort it.

It's the HTC messaging client - it's not a different one. It's just a newer build.
The HTC Messaging Client 2014 ?
This is the last one, and my 40 SMS are enough to slow down the phone when opening the messaging client.
My Build is 2014.2230.
I see on another topic that is e 2014.2622, you have this one ?
I saw on another WinMo 6.5's ROM that the messaging client was the same one on WinMo 6.1. The messages are sort 10 per page, so the loading time is merely inexistant.
Can someone confirm that ?
Is there a big difference in performance between the two? Also how is the memory usage? I would test it but atm I don't have the time to flash new ROMs and then if I don't like them to reflash back. So if it isn't a worry for you please share your opinion. Thank you
yes, there are many differences.
sense 2.5.2012 is working smooth on the blackstone. Don't be reluctant to try it.
you can check the differences on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5176648&postcount=6
have used them both.i rather stick to 2.1 bc i dont use the 3 quicklinks in 2.5
also you have kinda a quicklink in the "programs" tab.place that as second and you have kinda a quicklink.2.5 is quicker then the old one.
I'm another one that prefers 2.1
Quicker, for my needs, only thing I would like is the 2.5 Sense People Tab, the email one has been ported as a cab to be installed on 2.1 was wondering if anyone knew if the People tab had been too?
I'm not using any manila/sense right now (I love Pocket Plus ), but 2.1 is far more better for me - direct link to call history in Home tab, appointments preview, Programs tab with All Programs link, it's smoother, faster etc etc...
Another vote for 2.1
I'm not a great fan of quicklinks
so even when I used 2.5 I used max manila to hide them
The app called Flix is a bit memory fussy
so It switched from 2.5 to 2.1
these days I use a 6.1 wm, 2.1 sense combo
yeah, rhodium sense 2.5 runs smoothly enough for everyday use.
after installing Co0kie's Home Tab, you can customize it in so many ways that once you get used to it, it is hard to go back to sense 2.1.
smaller weather clock; bar showing # of missed calls, new sms and emails; up to 5 appointments showing; up to 20 quicklinks showing in a single screen; and many other customizations, makes me think how better htc programmers could have done it from the beginning.
As this is a discussion between 2.1 and 2.5 and has no relevance to development I've moved this thread to general dicussion
Another one here with preference to 2.1
I simply more like the way contacts and mail are displayed in 2.1 than in 2.5
Also, I'm dependent on Programs tab... I'm almost dependent on having 15 links to programs...
Another vote for 2.1
