Hello, my name is R and I'm an addict, to flashing, that is.
I had the Rhodium until the 24th when the HD2 came out and I was second in line at the store and was the first one out of there with a brand new HD2. (I know, the other lady had issues... lol...)
Anyway, I installed Cookie's Home tab, System SEVEN for push email, Garmin Mobile XT, Quick Menu and Total Commander on the phone, and it has been running better than the Rhodium ever did, even when I installed the cooked ROMs in it, so much so that I'm afraid to flash a cooked ROM on my HD2 and spoil it...
The things that I miss from the cooked ROMs:
1- Excluding the music tab and the pictures tab from rotation (NRG's Rhodium ROMs with Manila 2.5 can do that, and if i install MaxManila I know that it does that too, but I only ever used MaxManila for the extra links on the home tab and Cookie's Home tab does that with less bloat)
2- NRG's theme with the raised windows buttons instead of the flat ones in the Stock ROM.
3- I just read one of the posts below and remembered how sweet threaded emails were on the cooked ROMs, but System SEVEN didn't play nice with any of the 6.5.5 ROMs, and even some of the regular 6.5 ROMs, so I always had to reflash because the ROMs would freeze after a few hours and I would get an "Application Error" message that didn't go away, even uninstalling SEVEN didn't work... Why do I need SEVEN? I have three hotmail accounts, one personal and two business, and POP3 just doesn't work well, at least not with hotmail (or live mail, however you want to call it) and I haven't found anything better than SEVEN for configuring multiple hotmail accounts for push on windows mobile. Kind of lame when you think about it, because hotmail belongs to M$ and WinMo only allows one windows live account, and blackberries allow several windows live accounts, all with push...
Things that never worked on the Cooked ROMs and work perfectly on the stock ROM:
1- Facebook Integration: On the cooked ROMs, facebook integration kind of worked, I could link my favorite contacts to their facebook profiles and get their facebook pictures on my contacts tab, however, whenever they called me I saw their Outlook picture instead of their facebook picture, and I had to manually add the Outlook picture every time or I would get the generic gray avatar picture instead. On the stock ROM, I always see the facebook picture everywhere
2- On all the cooked ROMs that I flashed to the Rhodium, regardless of the version of Manila, I had to go to task manager and terminate outlook all the time because if I went to the email tab and tapped on Inbox and I was on an account other than the one that was open in Outlook (say I opened my hotmail inbox, then went back to the home tab, then back to the email tab and selected the exchange account and tapped on Inbox) Outlook would hang and I would have to restart it all the time. On the Stock ROM it works flawlessly, Outlook never hangs.
3- For the life of me, I never could figure out how to close Total Commander on the 6.5.X ROMs
4- I use Garmin Mobile XT, and while it worked, whenever the main GUI was open, it left a gap on the top between the GUI and the status bar or however you want to call it.
The Stock ROM is so good and stable that I'm not even going to flash anything until the Stock ROM is available to reflash.
Anyone knows how to exclude the music and the pictures tab from rotation (BSB Tweaks Rotation doesn't play well with rotating manila on the stock ROM, however TX_Total_Landscape.cab from the Touch Xtreme ROMs works perfectly), or anyone knows how to modify the default theme and make the windows buttons raised as in the NRG's themes, I would appreciate it if they let me know. (Some will say search the forums, but I've been searching for 6 days now and haven't found anything)
My two cents.
Peace!
Three row Landscape keyboard
When I first got my Rhodium (OK, TMO US HTC Touch Pro2) I loved the landscape keyboard, it only had 3 rows of keys and was very unobtrusive and functional. Then I started flashing and I really really really (as my 5 year old would say) dislike the new landscape EZInput keyboard layout. I have searched and searched endlessly for the original three row keyboard, but I've had no luck, there is one, but it's only for VGA devices, and I did dump my Rhodium ROM, but I haven't found a way to make a cab out of the dumped modules for the original keyboard (or any other modules for that matter), there are a couple of tutorials here and there, and I have followed them, but maybe because I have windows 7 they don't work, or maybe I'm doing something wrong.
Case in point: does anyone know where to get the below keyboard and install it on the HD2?
View attachment 301757
When I first got my HD2, my fingers were all over the place and I couldn't click on anything accurately. I really missed my Rhodium but figured that I would adapt to the new capacitive screen and the HD2 didn't have the "Align Screen" available in its settings. I must say that I was still struggling with it until today that I found this and I was able to align my screen and now I can tap anywhere with great accuracy and my days of missing my Rhodium are gone...
Yet another one
And this is the last one...
I will update this thread with the CABs that I install and the ROMs that I flash, and even the CABs that I make to make my phone run smooth and fast...
I don't understand the reserved for future use... Can't you just update the initial post?

I guess I could...
People who plan to include a lot of data in their thread and lots of responses usually reserve a space or two on the thread. This is because some forum restrict the size of a post you can make, even editted. So for instance, each post can only be 500 characters and no more. This allows them to include more information (characters) at the beginning of the thread.

This is the one I also might try after a month or week of the stock rom, i'm waiting for us to be able to reflash the stock rom...i don't even have the HD2 US yet but it's coming...and i have tons of cabs ready for it...so I would love the auto-install feature of that rom...but yeah, that facebook picture thing would be big for me as well...and on the stock rom some games lag a tad, so i will be using the 3d driver patch cab. and see if it helps.
I just flashed back to stock myself....I've yet to find a custom ROM that was as bug-free as stock
I just wish they'd release an official 6.5.x update. I'll miss the taskbar on the bottom of the screen, threaded emails, nicer stock apps (I prefer Titanium to Sense)....
stock rom....
does anyone know where to download the stock rom for warranty purposes?

There was a link floating around here right after release. Not sure what happened to it.
You can find the stock rom here, under the Leo 2.10 folder, have flashed it myself after testing a few custom roms:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/22189940/b8552fa0/Shipped_Leo_ROMs.html
I find the stock rom really nice too. However I do wish I had a stock 6.5.X to go with though. I miss a lot of the little things in 6.5.X like threaded email, Start button on the bottom, Beautiful menus, and the general ugly is gone.
Yes, one wonders why HTC released the T-MO HD2 with the old version when they will soon be releasing the so called HD Mini with 6.5.3.
The Stock ROM is nice and suitable for your average Joe but for cell phone enthusiasts it is a memory hog and full of bloatware. That said, it would need to be stripped to be worthy of its own thread.

I have to agree with the bloatware part of your statement. However, every cooked ROM that I used had it's own bloatware. Now, I know this is preference, but for instance, I don't like Opera, I prefer plain old IE, however, Opera is installed in all Cooked ROMs and there is no way to uninstall it. There are several other things that I would take out of every ROM, including the Stock of course, but I just havent have time to learn how to cook myself yet. I will soon, though... matter of fact, I'm dumping my ROM right now and will see how I can manage to "clean it up" a little bit and see what happens...
I'm a cell phone enthusiast myself, or at least I consider my selft to be one. My first Phone was an MDA, then I had a Wing, then the Touch Pro2, and now the HD2, and I flashed and customized each and every one of them...

Well the last updated ROM should be ending in 2.10.531.1
Thats the one I'm looking for.
Thanks for you link.
Alright, so I have no experience making a ROM, but I figure I might as well learn. I personally am interested in a ROM for the HD2 that just uses Titanium - none of that messy Sense nonsense - and to the best of my knowledge the current ROM chefs aren't too interested in that.
However, considering I can always just turn off Sense, it seems like a lot of work for just me. Is anyone else out there interested in such a thing? I presume you'd want it based on 6.5.x, not the standard 6.5?
If there's enough interest, I'll get started tonight.
Also, if you are interested, please post what other add-ons you'd want pre-installed. I'd like to keep it fairly basic, and allow users to add their own customizations later, but I figure maybe at least 4-column start menu and slider at the bottom.
Would be a good idea to have one. I'd love to have compatible themes as well for it. It's really tough searching for them as nobody is really into that anymore. Titanium would fly on our phones as HTC Sense for WinMo is pretty slow compared to it's Android counterpart. I ran HTC Sense on my Nexus One and it was crazy fast and the Nexus One has less RAM and ROM space than the HD2
I like to use the phone without Sense, but recently with the Elegancia ROM from steve0007 I have been using it with Sense enabled. When I disable Sense, there is a weird issue on the HD2, and I think I experienced it with other ROMs too, where the default menus don't disappear from the screen once I have tapped what I need. They just stay, blocking the screen, and the only solution is a soft reset. It'd be nice to have the ability to enable and disable Sense at will without an issue like this. A ROM without Sense at all might be a solution but I prefer having both options.
Miri has a couple options out, Titanium only or without both. But you have to go over to that 'other site' to get them.

Just checked it out. Looks like its based on 6.5. Nothing wrong with that per se, but without Sense you lose the HTC apps like contacts, calendar, etc and 6.5.x is a nice upgrade over 6.5 in that area.

I'm sorry, can you explain this a little more? I've used stock, Energy, and Kumar's ROMs all with Titanium and I don't think I've seen that one.
I'm using a really basic rom right now with HTC's stuff disabled. I prefer the WinMo 6.5 style today screen, SMS app, and speed. I've tried a bunch of roms and sense just bogs the phone down to the point that they keyboard becomes slow and unresponsive and that drives me bonkers!
FYI - I've been playing around with kitchens, and have what appears to be a stable version of a fast, basic, Titanium-only ROM running on my phone.
I'll play around with it some more to sort out bugs and clean up my kitchen a bit more. Look for a thread with the ROM download in the coming days!
I'm relatively new, and will do a search here shortly, but Titanium? My biggest gripe with this phone is the messaging app. It always lags heavily every time I get a new text, as well as other weird time stamp issues. I would be interested in a ROM w/o the HTC messaging app, and if Titanium is it, them I'm game!
Like I said, I will be searching RIGHT after this about what all this is, and if there's a solution to what I'm looking for now.

Titanium is the default Windows Mobile 6.5 interface. If you want to see what it looks like - go to the settings tab, hit menu->all settings->today, go to the Items tab, and switch to Windows Default.
And you're in luck - I am using the standard Windows Mobile messaging app as well.

Sense UI and HTC messaging client are different but interdependent.
The HTCmessaging client may still function without sense UI.
If you want windows messaging, try here or need a cooked ROM like my Lite version ROM.
How is this coming along?
Anyone have any links to some Titanium ROMs?
i know nrg always puts out a titanium rom
NRG does have a Titanium Rom, however I have noticed a lot of programs are pre-packaged into the Rom that I would never use.
An Elegancia Titanium Rom would be the best of both worlds in my opinion. No fluff and allows for your own additions. Or a NRG Rom without the extras. Just my .02 in what I would like to see.

I would recommend either Energy or Kumar's Titanium ROM, depending on what you're looking for.
I had something that was ok, not great, when the more established ROM chefs started putting out Titanium ROMs, so I figured I'd just leave it up to them.
Do you have a link for Kumars Titanium Rom? I see the Lite version but is that the same as Titanium or is there a separate thread which I am not seeing?
I'm going to download the Energy Rom but have a feeling it will still have too much added for my liking.
Notification Delay FIX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I decided not to wait til tomorrow, well technically for me it is (4am). Here is the long awaited fix.
*DISCLAIMER*
I am in no way responsible for damage to your phone, software breakages, Temper flares, or Hiccups, or Brain Farts. You are freely attemping to fix the notification relay delay based on what is being attached to this post knowing the risks.
Compatible with: HD2/Leo & Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2
Notification Enhancement Build 2011.3730.
Nothing has been added nor removed. This will fix the HTC notification, especially for SMS delay. This Build is only for HD2/Leo Roms 1.72 or Higher, & Touch Pro 2/Tilt2 Roms 2.07 or Higher Do not know if this will work on lower build roms, but see no reason why not.
I have removed the option to choose where to install so there is no mistake. There is the option of uninstalling this fix should it not work, or renders anything possibly to lock up or not work properly. I would suggest to make sure messaging client is not running when instaling.
If for some reason the cab fails to install claiming you dont have permissions, copy the cab to your device and run it from there, this seems to resolve the permission issue for some reason.
This fix does not remove the Msg Sent notification that seems to be default, if you wish to not have this notification, edit this line in the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\Messaging]
"DisableSMSSuccess"=dword:1
Known Bugs:
None Known or detected.
Known Issues:
May not work with Arcsoft Messaging system, has not been tested. Only has been tested with HTC/Jayaayu (AKA: Commviva) Client.
All comments welcome, Good, Bad, or Ugly.
Enjoy everyone.

Agreed, clarification on exactly what this fixes is needed.
+1 for clarification, cuz if this will fix the lag caused when a message is coming in i would love it!

Thanks for the explanation, didn't even know that problem exsisted . I hope your fix works for people suffering from this problem.
i've been getting that on 1.66 but it's a bit intermitant. i'll download and test it over a few days and report back
Personnally i've this "lag" after sent message slow to return to home...
You think your cab can help me?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJTXefa9PPE
some how i doubt it because that is caused by the messaging application itself. I have this too and i also have the slow load issue when a contact has more than 20 messages associated with it (i have one that has 2364+ (growing even as we speak))I installed netripper's LCS app which improved it but it's still not as fast as my diamond with the default 6.1 messaging app. I've also got the slow to allow typing problem and none of the tricks i've seen help with that one.
Ok lol
So waiting a proper HTC messaging client

I've just installed this onto my HD2 and i think that this cab doesnt solve that problem, but improves the ability to type faster when messaging thread reaches a higher number, as before typing would have been laggy for me, when the message thread reaches 50+ messages. Well, thats what i've experienced anyway.
Didn't i say that without even installing it? Yeah, i did, in post 11. This is for the notification system only i.e the sound that plays when you get a text message or mms. This patch doesn't fix any of the many other problems there are with HTC's - frankly ****ty - messaging program. Why HTC found what microsoft found good enough for the last 2 versions of WM wasn't good enough for them i have no idea because that works well and now includes exchange synchronisation support for sms messages (if you have exchange 2010 and outlook 2010) and almost all the other WM 6.5 partners are using it.
In fact i think i just convinced myself to install the hack that allows Sense to use the WM default (outlook style) messaging UI instead but i will try this first.

Looking at your video, that doesnt look like a stock rom. After sending a sms I dont have that problem with the home screen freezing.
Again This is for the notification problem only. Depending on your rom, the Newest Msg client that works best so far is: HTCMessaging_Client_SKT_1_5_20143724, but its in Korean, which isnt a big deal either. The lag is still there, but allows you to type without having to wait for the msgs to load. So far no magic bullet has been found yet.
Sadly it isn't working for me
tested on

Notification in Standby (Screen off):

- while plugged into Charger: Notifications work
But as far as you did this cab, you must have an Idea what the Reason for this Bug is, can you please tell me what exactly your Cab-file does change? Im also looking for a Solution to fix this Bug, would be good to know your Suspicion. I wont take any Credit if i will find something usefull, just wanna get this working

Okay the cab really is nothing special, I have 3 rom builds, HD's 1.72 (Telstra), 2.13 ToMoUS and the TP2 2.07. The ToMoUS Rom has the Notification problem, which seems to be with the Notification Enhancement Package. The TP2 2.07.401 didnt have this issue, and the Telstra 1.72 doesnt seem to have this issue, so I tested changing this package alone, and found that the 2.13 rom has this problem. But take note, that this was tested on the TP2 on a stock 2.07.401 TP2 rom. I was taking the HD2 packages and putting it into the TP2 rom, thats how I found this to be the cause. I first installed all the packages from the 2.13 rom into the TP2 and it started happening, thats when I went searching for what it could be, and for me, the Telstra 1.72 rom and TP2 2.07.401 Notification Enhancement packages works.
Also note, I do not know if this will work with custom roms, due to the fact that alot of custom roms use the arcsoft messaging program, not the htc. Again mine is stock rom interchanging the packages.
Yea i was looking at your Cabfile. I also think that my Problem is the cause from HTC Settings Enhancement. Setting something within the Notificationsetting under the Manila Settingstab, doesnt affect my Windows Mobile Sounds and Notification Setting...
Under HKLM -> Software -> HTC -> HTCSettings_Imrovement i found some strange things:
Current_DisplayTime : shows a wrong time
DefaultSound_NewTextMsg : there was something different than i had selected
NotifySound_SupportFilterSound : dont know what it does, but is set to 1
SoundOption_AllEnableEvent : is dissabled ...
SoundOption_Intialized : enabled
and under HKLM -> Software -> HTC -> HTCSettings_Imrovement -> DisabledSoundFile : there are a few Entries, but why are they disabled?
edit.
solved now,i removed HTC Messaging and installed the HTC Messaging Client from NRG and his NRG-Roms, this one works for me, now my Notifications are back
So, is this available for tilt 2?? Will it run without breaking it?

Eh not sure but I say if the current native WM SMS client works, then why fix what's not broken?
I love the speed and simplicity of it ;p.
Well, my primary problem with the primary messenging software is that it is sooooo slow! It takes forever to open a conversation, and then the softkeyboard opens, closes, then opens again. so annoying.
ideas?
what are the specifications of the rom you are using?

:-D no problem I was hopping it would work too, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617142 that rom has virsion 1.5 built into it, it works grate.
What is the difference between HTC messenger and default WinMo messenger? Because my Tilt 2 has the HTC keyboard and stuff, idk if it has messenger though.
In your opinion, is it worth the ROM flash?? I've never done it before, and there's plenty of info to do it so that's nto a problem, but just wondering!

In my opinion it is well worth it, this is actually the 1st rom I have flashed that used this messenger and I like it a lot, my fav part is it actually closes and opens when you want it to insted of clicking it and waiting plus for some reason I perfer Windows 6.5.5 to the 6.5.3.
Your sig says you're using Cell Pro 8.1, but I only see up to version 1.3 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=617142&highlight=cell+pro

Difference between hTC messenger and Windows
Windows Messenger uses iFrames (slow)
htc messenger looks like it uses program windows instead, but it does have problems reading from the Messaging database last time i checked(send a message and wont see it on screen for a little) but the Windows mobile messenger does sometimes freeze when its loading from the messaging database, and the program becomes unstable and wont open again without a softreset.
htc messenger looks like it belongs with sense, and Windows messaging looks like Windows messaging (outlook) blech..
htc messenger consumes a little more RAM and is believed to cause some lag problems, but Windows messenger isnt believed to exhibit either.
Im gonna install the new Htc messenger now and give it a go and ill repost here. Im using energyrom GTX

nothing quite like getting everything set up and loaded only to figure out the MMS dosent work and you cant figure out why lol

I have to say the htc messaging 1.8 (build 2015 and 2016 depending on what your rom needs) runs way way better then the old version. No more lag, pictures actually have a thumbnail preview in the messaging window, secure box... just awesome

Find out if the rom is using a 2015 or 1016 manila build. If so then yes you can use the new one.
Ok, my ROM is using manila v 2.5.20122227, so I cannot use the new messenger?
From the sounds of it, it would be a great thing to have, so if I cannot use the new messenger, how could I change my version of manila to be compatible?
Thanks

I'm a super-heavy texter, and the HTC app for text messages is horribly slow, even when i dont have many texts saved... I know there are some roms that do not have it, is the standard windows mobile application really faster? or is there some better alternative?
Could anyone sugest good ROMs with a messaging application other that the HTC one?

I'm a super-heavy texter, and the HTC app for text messages is horribly slow, even when i dont have many texts saved... I know there are some roms that do not have it, is the standard windows mobile application really faster? or is there some better alternative?
Could anyone sugest good ROMs with a messaging application other that the HTC one?
Thanks

Try NRG or Elegancia roms, Both of them come without HTC messaging clinet
sigh, the problem is these 2 roms are both hosted on hotfile, and where i stay (Singapore) i can never download off hotfile...

Many thanks wsayed, I tried Elegancia but i really dont like that rom... horrible icons and poor performance... but i did manage to see that the standard windows mobile sms client is way faster than the HTC one... so i'm going to try NRG now
Try kwbr. He offers a version with and without HTC Messaging.
Is there not a way to just install standard WM messaging on the stock rom? I'm quite happy on stock but I'm not crazy about the HTC messaging either.
OMG, HTC Msg is so horrible. You can have more 100 sms. From 50 onwards you starting to feel something wrong!

Yes you can:

And to answer OP's question - Yes, it is very fast
However, if you want HTC msg, you can do use MyPhone to archive sms. Trying to keep around 50 sms each time. This has been working well for me!
Here's another one... Miri's HD2 series.

Much better when HTC messaging is not included in the rom... text messages sync properly with Exchange 2010 and the unread bubble is always correct.
Try my roms :d no htc messaging, hosted on vbn and ul.to, tmous and non tmous compatible
