How can i easyly delete 3000+ sms messages?
When i try to do it, it freezes and nothing is deleted
Let it sit.. it's not frozen, but it takes a very long time to delete that many messages, and if you reset it before it's finished, they don't get deleted.
With my Mogul, it would take upwards to 10 minutes to delete that many messages, all while appearing to be frozen while doing so.
EDIT: I probably don't know what I am talking about, as my Mogul was WinMo and not Android.
Oh
I click to delete and now, 30 minutes from then, nothing happens. Like i didn't even click to delete. Anybody else knows what to do?

Hey I have been having this problem...
my phone when ever I do a soft reset, it seems like it goes back to a restore point...
for example... I would delete 50 messages right now...
then later on I would soft reset the phone if necessary. after the soft reset, the messages that I would have deleted would reappear...
OR
I would get messages from people and respond, like a normal texting conversation,
if I reset the phone for some reason, the messages that I recieved would be gone...
now correct me if I'm wrong, but after you delete something permanently, isnt it supposed to completely be off of the memory? so how is it reappearing?
it seems like with all of my messages and emails no matter how many times they are deleted or new ones I get, after a soft reset everything is lost, OR returned.
what is this? I want to free up storage memory on y phone.... what should I do?
BTW I have a wizard
Dunno, just want to say that it does happen with me too.
At first I thought that it's because the sms program is not closed properly. And it turned out that it was not the case.
I have found that the more messages I have in my in/out boxes for text messages, the more frequently I have to do a soft reset because WM froze. So, I periodically clear my boxes. However, I reciently got a replacement phone because of a bluetooth issue. Now, with the new phone, I cant get the messages to really delete. I have tried "Clear Text Messages," manually deleting the txts then deleting again from the deleted box, and using the "Empty Deleted Items." Each time the texts disapear, but when I do a soft reset, they return. WTF??
The phone is a stock Verizon VX6800 with no custom ROMs/Radios/etc. The only aftermarket software I have installed yet is ThemeMaster to switch my themes.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Anyone know what's going on with this?
Only thing I have to suggest is before you reset the device, make sure your text message app is shut off. Typically you'll lose new texts and such when you don't, works the same for everything deleted. Or just use the power button to shut it off. I heard it turns off everything for you when you do that.

I think this is a lot of poo myself. What does it matter if a message is setting in a file with no activity.
But yes, as mentioned, try shutting down your messaging in the running programs after you delete them. Then reset it.
Ok so before I get flamed, I have spent hours using the search feature looking for an answer. I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered, feel free to delete this thread but I'm desparate for an answer.
As the title states, I can't delete my sms messages. I send about 400 a day not including messages received. I'm stuck at about 8k messages and I'm on my 4th hard reset since I got the phone 2 days before it came out.
As I'm sure you guys are aware, the phone won't delete more than few hundred at a time. When I have this many messages in my inbox the phone behaves ridiculously slow to the point where its unusable.
I did find one solution involving the command prompt and several adb commands, but it didn't work for me.
If anyone has a solution It would be greatly appretiated.
Again, I apologize in advance if this has already been covered.
I know if you are using Handcent SMS, it takes awhile to delete a lot of SMS. I had about 400 in a threaded conversation with my GF, and when Handcent started to lag because I had so many, I had to delete them. It took probably about 1-2 mins to delete the whole thread. So just press delete and wait like an hour or so haha.
yea i had about 2k messages and my phone wouldnt delete em, what i did was wipe, felt like my only choice, just start deleting all those messages after it gets to 500 (unless u really need all 8k of those messages). the messages do get stored in your phone so eventually it will lag the hell out of your phone. you can also use fresh pre kitchen, it has a tool i saw for deleting text messages and backing them up, i cant say it works or not because i never used it. worth taking a chance tho
if your rooted use fresh kitchen to backup and delete all your text's
Not using handcent, and I really would like to avoid having to delete my messages everyday. An auto delete program/feature might be the best option for me if either exists.
This saddens me because my old touch with wm6 would hold 30k messages just fine

+1 It works great and its way faster than doing it manually
Fresh Pre-Kitchen 0.2
In addition to the pre-kitchen option, I hear that Android 2.1 has an option for deleting them after a set amount of time?

or even better, to back them up to the SD card before deleting them (just in case)...that'd be sweet
Hii all,
Is there anyway to delete all your SMS messages from ALL contacts at once, without having your phone crashed??? Cause I started erasing messages from one contact (dont know how to delete from all at once) when my battery was like 18 % and then my phone was loading and loading and loading and I couldn't do anything.... SO I waited for 20 minuts or so, and removed the battery cause it made me nuts! After that the battery was only 4 procents and my messages weren't deleted at all?
I searched on the forum with the keys "empty inbox" but I didn't find any relevant topics about this issue.
Thanks in advance
edit: solved in post 2,3

This is a bit convoluted, but once it's set up it's a doddle.
Get Microsoft MyPhone and get it installed and synced with your device. Then, go to the online interface and select all your text messages (when you select all the ones on the page, it offers to select all of them from the whole phone). Then, you can either archive or delete them online. Next time you do a sync on your phone, they'll all be gone.
I use archiving to keep my message numbers down, and it's great because it means I still have all the text messages, just not on my phone.
Hope this helps mate
On messages tab go to All messages, then tab and hold on one of the conversations. Then you have menu where you can delete all these messages at once. DO the same with all contact's conversations.
This is almoast "all at once", except it is "delete all from the one person".
Thanks guys!
Is anyone else having issues deleting SMS threads over 180 messages?
I have a couple rather big threads I want to delete but when I long press on them, pick delete the phone seems to hang and then a force close/wait dialog box pops up and nothing gets deleted.
Is there any other way I can delete these cause one of the threads is huge
i had a message thread at about 2300 messages. took about 5min to delete, i recommend just letting the phone do it's thing and tell it to wait when it asks to force close. I got 2-3 FC notifications when I deleted that thread.
yeah i did that and it worked
its just annoying that it does that.
it happened on my cliq as well. i guess the messaging app wasn't setup to handle a large amount of messages. or the app isn't coded well?
who knows, its annoying, but what ya gunna do?
I had the same problem. I'll try just letting it sit there.
