We already have the sense dump for the magic, and it's already been ported. Buuuuut it's for the 32A, the 288mb ram model, just like the Hero. Apparently it's the fastest yet, but it's still meant for hardware with a 1/3 more ram.
I believe the Google branded phones are the 32Bs which have the same ram as the G1 (192mb) so it would would make sense (pun intended) for them not to get the update (RAM wise + licensing).

Aahh.. so thats the "Sence UI" roms floating around. well i think days of my G1 are limited then, as most of the new roms will be for the new HTC or Motorola hardware with more ram. We have been trying Compcache & Swap but its still not up to the mark. forget Cyan's ROM even the T-Mo's 1.6 without modification runs faster than any of the Hero Roms.

Yup, the Sholes/Droid sounds awesome on paper, seems like much more of an upgrade than the Cliq. I'd buy one the second it's released if I had the cash.

This is thread about porting the ORIGINAL ROM of HTC HERO that HTC announced in its event on 24th June...........
Any one who gets hold of the ROM please upload it here so that the devs can start porting ...
The ROM that original firmware has is slight different and it seemed to be much more complete and smoother....
THE ROM IS NOT YET THERE>>> THIS IS FOR DISCUSSION
If this a discussion thread then i will move it to general, thanks for the clarification
i cant wait until we get it. hopefully Haykuro shows up with it out of the blue and becomes our Hero.
How does everyone think the Sense UI Rom will run on our G1s? Do you think it will be as fast as it was in the Hero Demo or will it be slightly slower than that because the Dream has less ROM/RAM vs the Hero?
im sure that it will be faster than our current hero rom with a2sd. It might be a little slower but i dont think it should be that noticeable of a difference.
it should be able to run well...swapper will make up for the ram we dont have and a class 6 card will also help our cause.

"HTC's Sense UI not coming to any "Google" branded phones"
We've got some good and bad news... mostly bad, though. First, the good news: HTC is looking into finding a way to bring its new Sense UI -- the one featured prominently in the new Hero -- to its non-Google branded Android devices, such as Canadian carrier Roger Wireless' Magic. Unfortunately, and this is the bad news, even that's not a sure thing, and as you can probably guess from the wording, any phone that's got the "with Google" branding, like T-Mobile USA's G1 and myTouch 3G, won't be getting a chance at all due to the same licensing terms that prevented Microsoft Exchange clients on those same phones. Them's the breaks, folks, but we're sure some hacker with enough know-how will bypass the silly restrictions and do it anyway.

well until the Rogers phones get rooted, they better not leave out the Dream on Rogers or I'm going to be rather upset.
Of cousre I'll take root and a hacked ROM any day

heh this isn't much to worry about. as soon as someone gets hold of the phone, it's only a matter of doing a "adb pull /system system" and uploading it somewhere for us to be able to grab it and run with it

This is why I love xda
does anyone think that this could be done without root, similar to the manual update for T-Mobile 1.5? Maybe you could just edit the contents of T-Mobile 1.5 to add the UI changes?
I really doubt it, if it were possible I think we would've done that with some of the ROMs that have been released. You're on a developer website, you have to take some risks because this is "in development' not finished.
as I stated in another thread, HTC is not bringing sense to "with Google" branded phones, however, there are non google dreams out there, I think roger's is one of them. Once rogers gets rosie, it's gonna be an easy port to any dream rom.
Anyway, if somebody dumps a hero rom, there shouldn't be a reason why it wouldn't run on Dream. Hero is comparable in hardware (memory size and storage capacity) to the sapphire, so it'd only be a matter of making rosie run in less memory (192 vs 288) and fit in a smaller space (256 vs 512). The processors by Qualcomm on both devices are very similar, the hero's being a revision of dream's and sapphire's processors, and they both share the same arm11 core. Both processors are capable of running at 528mhz, so, really, there's very little difference between both devices. Again, a rogers dream port would be better, but Hero port will still work fine on dream
Dear Community.
I've one question...
HTC has a lot of Android phones in their product line...
Magic, Hero, Tatoo
But what is the big difference between them?
I only know that Hero and Tatoo have little bit more Ram and an other UI.
But is it worth to buy a Tatoo in stead of an Magic?
thanks

I'm not an expert of testing different phones. But here's my short review anyway. There are no huge differences, though the Hero doesn't upgrade to OS 1.6 yet.
I'll start with the Magic.
The Magic has two version, the 32B and 32A.
To summarize that, the 32A is a little "faster" can load more apps and used OS 1.5 but now upgraded to 1.6. Big disadvantages are having no 3.5 mm jack for audio, bad camera and multimedia support.
The Hero has the nice Sense UI (Rosie) but might have little lag on homescreen once you put more applications on it etc.. One of the neat things is the fingerprint-resistant coating so you don't have to clean it over and over like the Magic.
The Tattoo runs 1.6 and is much like Hero because of the Sense UI and it is much faster with booting. The design fits better in one hand because it's more round shaped. Disadvantage is the smaller screen.
You can modify any of these phones to your taste. But I think HTC has done a great job with Tattoo. The Dream & Magic are also good phones, but if you plan not to mod the phone I'd say Tattoo.
Just my opinion with some facts. The choice is up to you.
All Android phones are cool.
i could live with the small screen as a pocket suitable phone but the screen of the tattoo is only a resistive screen instead of a capacitive screen. Which is a big disadvantage.
What about the TMobile MyTouch 3G?
Where does the TMobile MyTouch 3G fit in with all of that?
And why does the description on this board only say "also known as HTC Magic" but not "also known as TMobile MyTouch 3G"?
Thanks for reply.
I would flash roms to my phone, so the UI differences are not so importand for me...
But when I do a comparison between... Hero and Magic (Magic has a Rom with Sense ui)
Am I right if I say they are then very similar??
greets

Well, if you get a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G or some models from Vodafone also means you'll get PVT32B version with 192MB ram. And that isn't really good enough for a HTC Hero Rom. It would eventually lag (slow down) even with swap. PVT32A has 288MB ram FYI. There are pretty good Roms for this one, but from my experience with using Android phones I've never had problems with android 1.6 donut and 2.0 eclair. You can modify them a lot to make it look like the Sense UI if you really want to. Or ofcourse just get the HTC Hero...

The mt3g is the same
the reason it say also known as the magic is because that is the real name of htc's phone
they use sapphire because thats what its called in the coding
the mt3g is just what tmobile decided to call it because they seem to be the only one's with a contract to switch htc's names (htc now wants to brand themselves so we'll see how much longer that last)...
the difference in the names really doesnt matter... it come down to what type of board you have 32a/32b

Yes that might be.
I'm not that up to date with the Hero, I heard people have had problems with it and not sure if that's fixed by now, that's why I said 'might'.
Other than that what about the motorola droid, that looks good, all metal casing.
Radio differences
pack: Thanks for the reply!
I suppose there are radio differences too since there seems to be a lot of variation in how carriers handle 3G, at least in terms of frequencies used. TMobile and AT&T in the US do 3G differently and it seems that carriers in Europe and Asia have other ways. I don't know, though, if each 3G carrier's version of the Sapphire has an internal name at HTC for differentiation.
It would be great, though, if HTC started coming out with phones that had radios capable of being used on any GSM network, including data at 3G speeds, because everyone I know in the US with a 3G phone that was unlocked and moved from TMobile to AT&T, or vice versa, has to live with 2G data speeds on the other network. Is this the case in Europe too when switching between carriers or moving between countries? Or has 3G data been standardized there?
I would not recommend the Tattoo simply based on it's resistive screen.
The HTC Hero is the best Android offering so far from HTC. If you can get your hands on a HTC Magic 32A version it's just about identical hardware-wise to an HTC Hero.
While the N1 has a healthy 512mb of memory, the Desire has 576mb. I was thinking, if everything really is the same hardware (the N1 also has a FM radio on its chip too, its just not used for whatever reason..) then maybe the N1 has that memory locked off somewhere. Or something. I was just thinking, because that would be a questionable move by HTC to add ONLY 60mb...your thoughts?

Never thought of it before...Sounds reasonable and considering the HD2.... Definitely Possible
On another note this might be general discussion
I figured they tacked on that little bit more of RAM so that their resource whore can run faster on the desire than the nexus.

ya i would think they did it because HTC Sense requires a lil more resources than the stock UI, ie RAM. but maybe it is locked off somewhere. if it is....we will find it!
Is it even really confirmed that this particular development rom has it enabled? It might not even be in the build.

I don't think they gave the Desire extra RAM to run Sense. Why? Well right now on my N1 I'm running the Sense Alpha 3 rom from Modaco and I have 385MB total and only 68% of it is being used and the phone is still very smooth. I really don't know why they added extra RAM but it doesn't really mean much for Android.
On the MWC i have seen that the Desire has only 80-65 MB free. On my Nexus i have 120 (will on the stocked rom )
The Nexus runs faster than the Desire. And i think google will support (with new updates) the Nexus longer than htc it will do.

And I got around 300MB free when killin some more tasks (on CM 5.0.3)
I think google is brilliant if they have done that... this way they can have 2 "Performance enhancing" updates without really having to do anything but release a new kernal, which they should already have the code for.
I doubt it has anything to do with Sense UI.
Why? :
- The HTC Legend runs the same version of Android with Sense UI fine with only 384MB Ram
- The Hero also runs Sense UI fine with 192MB Ram

Really, did you get test a commercially available HTC Desire? They're both similar and equal phones, no point trying to justify your choice, Nexus is a brilliant phone, so is the Desire.
One thing, Nexus does have is faster updates. It is after all a PROPER GooglePhone. HTC have yet to update their old Flagship HTC Hero. Other than that Nexus and Desire are similar except for a little bit more ram, FM radio and removal of dual mic. (Sense UI may be a difference, but do the great devs on XDA, it's isn't really an advantage for Desire, although at most, it may not work 100% compared to the official Desire Sense UI, a small fixable fault).
Desire has 80-65MB Free? Wut? I think you saw that wrong, Lol.
OK, so the MyTouch and the HTC Magic at Rogers (http://www.htc.com/us/support/magic-rogers/downloads/) look like exactly the same phone - but the rogers has had a 2.1 + Sense UI update and its faster than any other Sense UI rom here at xda.
What are the differences between these two phones? Can we port over the rogers 1.5 w/ Sense UI to get the fastest Sense UI rom on the MT3G?
Is it against the forum rules to ask a Rogers user for their serial number so I can download the update from HTC's website and work on porting it myself? If not, would anyone be willing to PM me their serial so I can get to work on it?
The thing is - speed has always been an issue with sense roms - the rogers has other bugs but maybe the speed increases would be enough for users to start using this rom (if we could cut it) and then we can fix all the bugs HTC won't fix in it. And yes, I know this is based off of 1.5 - but its also written specifically for similar hardware. - Granted, I understand the difference in RAM between the 32a and 32b devices (288 vs 192)
Isn't Cursorsense already based on the Rogers rom?
it is, but its been made for the 32A not the 32B, 32A has more ram than 32B so we need a smaller, less intensive rom like the rogers.

Giving HTC phones Sense is based on the phone provider; ROGERS decided to give HTC Magic users Sense UI, some other people are not so lucky as each provider wants to customize each ROM to their own liking (adding their own apps, wallpapers, boot up screens, etc) and some want to add new features like Sense.
I hope people also realize that the update ROGERS put out was NOT 2.1. People have to stop thinking this; the ROM is still 1.5 and the 2.1 update is supposed to be coming out soon.
If you want a Sense UI, download one of the 1.6+ ROMS, ROGERS was a good ROM while I had it but there was too many bugs in the ROM itself; there are probably better, faster ROMS already out there that are vastly superior to ROGERS ROM.

The OP clearly stated he know it was 1.5...
To OP:
The ROM is a 32A designed ROM. I don't think any amount of tweeking will make it run better on a MT3G to be frank.

Best Rom
search for binary100100 he ported a rom too the 32a (fender/1.2) but it is a g1 port with support for the mytouch original and the new ones as well as all the g1's out there..
on my friends g1 it boots in about 1 minute 30sec
and on my 1.2 it boots in under a min..
anyways its like KiNGxKlickDroidEris2G1 just search for it or look for Binary100100 who ported it and he has a link to the original thread
Dude... the thread is from may 2010!!!!!
the rom runs flawlessly, it boots nicely, nd with the CR_Slide OC it works even faster, the kernel frm the overclock puts my 1.2 mytouch at 845mhz
with an already stable nd speedy sense rom!!!
damn its fast with that kernel its booting faster than ever
There were some rumors that some of the Android devices of HTC will not receive the newest update to Android Froyo 2.2. While this is partially true, we’re happy to say that HTC Magic is not included in that “black list”.
As announced by the second largest French mobile operator SFR, the device will receive the desired Froyo soon. Some believe that this will take place even in this month. T-Mobile has also plans to update myTouch 3 G which is basically the same device to Froyo by the end of this year.
Let’s say that the device looks to handle the novelties quite well, considering the fact “of not being that new”. Good job!

so correct me if im wrong... but if the htc magic gets official android 2.2 does that mean the amazing developers here are going to have a field day with it and make it even better and more customizable than the actual creators of it?
I sure hope so would love to have a nice custom rom with 2.2 that works and with tons of bonus stuff pre installed.
Maybe you haven't noticed, but the amazing developers here are having a field day since the froyo source was dropped in to AOSP a few days ago. CM6 should be just around the corner.
i know they are already playing with it, but with a copy from the actually phone i imagine it would be easier to mod and play with since they dont have to port and do all kinds of ridicules things to get it to work on another phone.

Remember that the 32B Magic is the ION/ADP2, everything you need to get a fully working ROM is supplied in the AOSP. What you're suggesting is probably more relevant to devices like the Hero. At any rate, we'll probably see CM6 or some other froyo ROM before a shipped one.
ok well you seem to know more than i do so i hope a 2.2 near perfect rom comes out soom. im so excited lol
