htc tytn > battery prolem - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi, i have a problem with my battrery. When i charge it to 100% and when i unplug the charger battery go`s to 95% and every 2-5 sec. the % go down too fast. When i calling or use wireless it go`s down faster like 20% or 40% only for one conversation. I buy a new battery and charge it 5 times full and the problem persist. My friend have Hermes and i put his battery and it was the same situation(it go`s down quickly). When i put my battery to him Hermes everything was o.k. I change a few roms and nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i have the same problem, i read else where that it is a hardware problem that can be fixed by cleaning the motherboard. what is the rite way

I try to put original orange rom and then put back 13.5 crc`s rom.
The results is that i waste my time

I try to fix by cleaning the motherboard, but no results.
Batterystatus show this:
>when i make a call: ~180 - 300mA
>with wireless and iexplorer: ~70 - 120mA
>without motion: ~20 mA

Hi, has anyone found a fix for this, i have the exact same problem with mine...
The battery is perfect playing music and daily use doesnt tax it in the least, but making a call of 5 minutes reduces the charge from 80% to 35%
This is very strange...
please help me

Power consumption rates look quite normal... 20mA in idle mode is even quite good (mine 'eats' around 30).

I have the same proble. Whenever I put a SIM in the phone it drains very fast and becomes hot.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

Please help i have the same problem, the phone goes very hot and batery discharges very fast VERY!

Nasty Low Battery Bug In MDA Pro

Hi
If the battery falls below 10% then it turns off wifi, sd card etc (Fair enough).
But... unfortunately, unit switches on every 5 mins to tell you that the battery is dead (then does not switch off for the defaut timeout)!!! You can go from 10% to dead in half an hour even when the device it switched off.
Also, when you feed it some juice, and try and start the wifi, it switches it off again until the charge is above 10%. I.e it does not realise that the unit has a mains supply connected.
At leased it does not hard reset like my BA used to!
Nigel
Did you ever find a way around this ? My MDA Pro just drained itself overnight because of this bug. It's even worse if you have MS Voice Command because that chips in to TELL you that there's low battery !
Peter
I also could do with a solution for this, as i have set my Screen to be alway on if in laptop mode and open. Oftern i forget to close it and the battery goes flat. No big deal because of lest you looses everything. But not untill the battery once pluged in goes above 10% can i use it properley as all my programes are stored on the card.
I agree the 5 minute but to keep telling you its flat makes it worse if your battery is low, But is there a way to change the low battery shut down to 1% so this way after only a short charge i could start to use it properley
Thanks
John

Battery????

Hey, my S200 shows unusual battery drainage behaviour. it seems like if the battery empties to fast. I have the newest DOPOD rom and some programs like Pocket plus, diary and weather running.
Let me give you an example, If I have just finished charing the device and it displays a battery charge of 100% I unplug it and 1 minute later it goes down by 1% to 99 - an additional minute and the battery meter displays 98. By the end of the day i seem to have a charge of maybe 40% while using the device for maybe 1 hour intensly and the rest just phone standby with maybe 2 calls of 2 min avrg length.
On top i noticed that the left side of the device gets a littel warm when I am using the device extensively or charging it. Is that also normal?
Whats the deal with my device? i dont know a whole lot about pda's. Is that a normal power consumption?
How can I measure if my device performs well in terms of CPU speed because I have the feeling it also runs slow.
Thanks a lot
Similar to my S200. When I tried to use S200 with my old O2 XDA mini's battery, everything is OK. Battery of S200 has problem ???
I am not sure ? anyone has experience ?

wizard draining battery !

Dear All,
I have a strange problem here.
I just purchased a used wizard and installed a new t-mobile rom, but, once I connect the charger or the usb, the orange charging light starts blinking!
The battery doesn't charge, but drains very fast.
I re-installed another rom, but it's the same, and I installed another, but also the same.
I checked the battery on another phone, but nothing was wrong with it, then I installed the battery of the other phone on my wizard, and it did the same problem!
I checked another charger, but it's the same thing!
The phone is fully functional, and works 100% other than when charging it!
Any suggestions???
Same problem here. The battery drains almost emidiatly when I charged it. After a couple of time it wont even charges anymore. Tried 3 batteries. All batteries seems to have died. Horrible.
Please... anyone recognize this problem?????
To add: I put in a brand new OEM battey from Sanyo. Charged it with the wallcharger. Then when I put on the device it drains almost imediatly. A brand new battery !! Then tried to recharge the batery and then the phone shows a red led light? What is going on!.
OH, AND NOT FORGET i DID install a new ROm from Moski but the same problem. So, replaced the ROM and battery. Is the wallcharger defect or my QTEK 9100??

Sounds like a defective wizard to me. Might be time to return it and get a replacement.
If you have already purchased new OEM batteries, and you're still having this problem, one would have to assume that it's the charger you're using. A buddy that works with me bought a mini USB wall charger for his Cingular 8125, and on the 1st charge, it completley drained his battery, and it was unable to charge again. $50 bucks later for a new OEM battery and charger, and never had this problem again.
Thanks for the responces. I ordered an aftermarket charger and hope that that solves the problem. I recently bought it for about 210 euro 2ndhand. Sometimes it does startup and looks ok but then in less then a minute the power dies. I will look after the 5 volts and 1 amp. on the new charger by the way.
Once again, if someone recognice this problem I really are interested in the solution if found.
Offourse I will let now if I found out. I'm praying that the wallcharger is the problem.
i had that problem when i was using the razr charger with my 8125. i thought it was the same because they are both mini usb. WRONG!
i hope this is not what you are doing. is your charging cable oem?
Hi. Got a replacement wallcharger and when i plug it it in the led on my Wizard turns RED emediatly. Charger has the same spec. as the OEM. So. Still a dead wizard. Anyone any thoughts?
By the way. I cant even find out what the red light on my wizard means. Should be orange when charging. Red doesnt looks good.
same problem
I'm having almost the same problem
The red light
My wizard won't start, and by the way, I was charging it with a motorola charger cause I only had the car charger , and the cable is 2 short. I actually charge it several times... a month and some, no problems, till now I posted a new thread,
I don't know what to do ... Can it be the main battery ... mabe my charger depleted it I had resco tools installed an it said that my main battery is at 100% ...
Now when I plug it in the car charger, it does nothing..., and when I plug it in the moto charger it shows a red light.
If someone finds anything, please reply.
I found a thread...
Plug in your pda without your battery inside. It shows the red light. Insert your battery, and the led will turn off. Press the power off button, and, voila....it starts. By the way, after it was brought back to life, I quickly pluged into the usb...and the led turned orange. My battery was 0%
Hope this helps. By the way, it's not necessary to work from the first time. Worse possible scenario, let your pda to "rest" without the battery insite for an hour and then try again. I heard it has something to do with heat...I mean, if it's cold, there are less chances... don't laugh It may be true. For me it worked the first time. Good luck.
I was having the same problem. It was fine for a week using this other USB charger then yesterday it was not charging and today it was totally dead.
Thank you guys for the information
but what is different about the chargers? or USB cables I mean?
There are a few scenarios going on here.. (some of these things people have tried and got the same result, but i want to lay them all out on the table here)
A. The aftermarket chargers you are using may not meet the 5V 1A rating as the factory chargers... aftermarket chargers or even factory chargers for other devices such as motorola have an output of 5v 0.5A. Now the .5amp charger can charge the device just as long as its idle and not draining faster than it can be charged.
B. Defective Charger
C. Defective battery
D. Defective Phone
*Note- i did not mention roms due to the fact that phones will charged when they are completely off (not asleep)
Now that we have identified the possible problems we can start to identify possible solutions. (If your phone is completely dead and wont turn on then you may need to search for a thread entitled "Dead Wizard, Never lets revive" in the upgrading board)
Before you go to bed, turn the phone completely off and plug into the OEM charger that is rate output of 5V 1A, make sure the the orange charging light is on and go to sleep (you, not the phone, its off remember ) If this does not solve the issue then try this same thing with another battery and the same charger, if that fails, then try this the old battery and a new charger.....
If after you do all of this and its still not charging properly then your phone is defective.
if i didnt make much sense its cause i am tired and will clarify in the morning if i can
I'd like to make an observation here about some rather choppy battery life that I have been experiencing with my Wizard. I'd like to know if this is inside NORMAL behaviour parameters.
At 8AM this morning, my battery was disconnected from the charger with the battery fully charged.
Between 8AM and 11AM my total phone usage duration was 10 minutes. At 11AM, my battery displayed 91% Charge.
Then exatcly at 11AM, I turned on my Opera Browser and used it for 12 minutes, after which the battery dipped another 7% from 91% to 85%. I noted this reading at 11:12 AM.
After this I put my phone on standby. From 11:12 to 18:30 hrs, I recieved 1 missed call and a total of 2 SMS plus 4 emails. During this time I have not made or recieved any other calls. At 18:30 hrs, I noted that my battery was at 71%.
My phone is set to send and recieve emails every 15 mins. I have only one pull email account and one push email account.
Other than what I have mentioned above, there was no other phone activity. I do not have any background apps running except for SPB Pocket Plus and the Battery Status Application.
Please let me know if this is similar to what all of you are experiencing or should I get a new battery? My phone still has about 6 months of warranty on it? Will I be able to get a replacement for it on these grounds?

thanks for that shogunmark. Do you have an approximation as to how much battery drain there would be for apps like Opera? 7% in 12 mins seems to be a lot. Also I have a feeling that if Opera is running in the background, the battery drains very quickly even though the device is set to go into standby after 1 min of inoperation. I can't confirm this but I have a feeling this has happened to me.
Also, since my messaging app checks for email ever 15 mins, how much of a battery drain will that be?

i cant offer an approximation since it has been a month since i switched to the hermes.. but i can say that i would pull mine off the charger around 8am and by 11pm i would need to charge.. but i used data heavily.. opera, pushmail, at LEAST 30 text a day, and maybe 45 minutes in calling a day. now 7% in 12 minutes does seem excessive, but running java apps is demanding on the phone, takes a lot of resources.
Tips on extending battery life.

I can not aggree with this. I use my windows live and it syncs every 15 min I send out at least 300 txts a day and I use around 90 min of talk time during the day, (thank God for unlimited txt msgs and free nites and weekends). I use the web at least 40 min total and I listen to my MP3s on it on the train ride to and from work which lasts about 20 min from Manhattan to BKlyn. I dont recharge the phone the until I get home around 7pm charge for an hour and go out again.
I have noticed that certain Roms tend to suck out power much like my x-girfriend sucks out my money for Child Support. I have played around with running certian programs and adjusting the backlight settings and this has helped me keep the phone running all day.
My suggestion would be to change the rom and see if your drain contiunes. Then try to have your backlight turn off with in the 10 secs. If you are overclocking your phone when you dont need that extra Mhz turn it back down to 195 or if your really adventurous turn it down to the 170's for some extra power savings. Last but not least make sure your Active Sync is not turning on all the time by adding a fake server source. If all that fails buy the cradle with the spare battery charger and carry an extra battery. Good luck and godspeed!
Use 1A charger
This has been stated already, but after buying 5 extended batteries thinking they were all dying, I bought a 1A charger on ebay. Payed about US$25 shipped, but it made all my troubles go away. A reseller sold me my 8125 with a Razr charger and I thought it would be fine but it wasn't. Use a 1A charger!!!
I keep reading about this "Wizard draining battery" issue on here. I can't say that I've EVER had a problem with my battery draining.
I keep mine on the USB sync cable overnight to charge, pull it off in the morning around 8:30 when I leave for work. At that point, the battery is at 100%. Send/receive 4 - 5 text messages, 15 - 20 minutes of phone calls, PocketWeather updating every 2 hours, emails pulled from my POP3 server every 1/2 hour PLUS intermittent internet browsing and data entry into some of my apps. . . also running WA2 in the background. When I leave work at night, I still have between 77% - 83% battery life left.
Maybe it's just that I keep it "topped off" that I'm not experiencing any battery drain throughout the day -- I don't know. But, I've had no problems with mine.

Battery Dying?

I was wondering... What kind of symptoms do you get when your battery is starting to die? I'm getting some crazy battery drain problems. First I've got a good 50% charge. I make a 10 min call and the phone restarts with the battery at 0%. No warnings or anything. I've got a couple new batteries coming by mail. I was just wondering if maybe I have some other problem with my phone. Thanks in advance.
Hi!
got a similar problem.. I don't know if it is a battery problem or a SW problem. Please, let me know if a new battery solved yours.
thanks

Hi, just check my post at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2508856&postcount=5
You can download and use PowerDetect from there. charge your battery to 100% and run the program. It will give the % of battery and the voltage. it logs the results to a text document. While running, your wizard will turn off/restart. after that, charge again to see the test results. If you see the voltage is running low very quickly, then your battery will be dead.
just buy an new battery and you'll be fine
good luck!
battery would start fully charged at 100%
used it for maybe 10 min? and went down to probably 60%
a moment later it's down to 40%...
try to wrap up your stuff and the 20% warning comes on
that's the battery dying. i bought a new one off of amazon and now it tends to go down slowly. i can use it off and on the whole day and it ends up 50-60%, pretty close to how it was when it was new

It was the battery. New battery new lease on life. Working great now. Now I have to do some USB repairs from having to charge so much...

Bad Battery! - Possible cause?

Hey guys,
First of, YES I USED THE SEARCH FUNCTION .
My battery life is absolute horrid right now, and I tried everything.
I tried out different roms, every radio, deleting programs, hard resetting tons of times. I even bought a new 1500 mAh battery but it was still crap.
Battery log says my device in standby mode with the screen turned of uses -70ma, when I turn my screen up it jumps to -320ma, and when idle on the screen for a few sec it goes to -200 ma, but when I browse through stuff again it goes to 3xxma again. When I surf on the internet it picks up to 450-500ma.
Now, this morning with the 1500 mAh battery fully charged I played a few games of XTRAKT, few texts, 1 hour of music listening and 10 minutes of being on Opera through a HSDPA connection. It was down to 45%.
This isn't the normal rate the battery goes down at right?
I use HDtweak to manage my connection and put it off after a minute so it isn't that I keep dataconnections open. I never use bluetooth or wifi either.
Could it possibly be that it's the charger of the device? I perhaps have the feeling that it doesn't put enough juice into the battery even though the green light led goes on to indicate it's full.
Some feedback would be much appreciated cause it's put me on the edge of selling my device, which would be a shame cause I'm really fond of it (except the battery ofcourse ).
Thanks in advance!

P.s. I am from a pda background, so it isn't that I'm expecting too much of the device or comparing it to a normal cell.
May I ask what you searched, as there are 3 or 4 active threads on battery drain right now?
Hi
Had same problem.
Try to browse a storage card if its very slow You must format it and it will back to normal.
very strange but its working.

General battery drain yes, not the possible issue of a charger though. If I'm wrong I stand corrected. .

I'll try this, I have noticed that today my storage card won't be read by my computer, so perhaps this is a fix for the lousy battery issue.

Hi Antrak,
Touch HD has the longest battery life of any similar 'phone. See e.g.
http://www.pcauthority.com.au/News/1...-the-rest.aspx.
Either your battery is not charging correctly, as you say (try it via the PC USB cord?), or you have two dud batteries in a row (very unlikely) or you have a bug in your m/board. 70mA in standby is too high. It should be <20mA with only the 'phone on in standby mode, providing you are not moving from one cell to another all the time, and have decent signal.
One other suggestion. Drain the battery completely to zero, then recharge it to max. This should reset the internal battery meter. But don't do this too often, as it ages the battery faster.
If none of these work, return the 'phone for a m/board replacement undere guarantee.
I have the same problem... After charging for 10 hours, my batt shows 55% only.. and last 1hr on STANDbY!!!
IMAGINE! charge for 10hrs juz to get to use for 1 hr.. im disappointed by the batt.. im not sure if HTC is gona let me exchange with a new one or do I have to buy a new batt..
try check your sync..its active all the time or not..
if yes..
find the threat to make a fake account for sync, so you can active it manually.
so your battery will stand more longer,
about charging..
me also facing the same problem..
need to change it more longer to get full battery,
but
if i change in my car,
no issue
very fast
i thing charger issue..
but i bought original set..

Okay I've charged my HD through my pc with a USB cable and formatted my SD card like a other user said. Gonna see how it holds out today. It could very well be that some chargers have issues.
My experience with the Touch HD says that when charged with a USB attached to a computer the battery life is a lot shorter than charged through a wall socket.

This is always going to be the case. Quickest way to charge your device will always be through your wall socket and with your device turned off!!
Same battery issue.
i recently purchased a new touch HD (T8285 telstra version) and am experiencing the same horrible battery issues. it takes more time to charge it, than i get use out of it.
i've tried multiple batteries, and am in the process of trying different ROMs.

Indeed, here's an illustration...
Image1:
Charging via USB takes longer. Consumption and therefore charge current is erratic after the battery level reaches 50% when charging via USB on my HD. So the battery fills up to about 60% of its capacity by the time when the battery level is reported to be 100% and charging stops.
Image2:
When charging with an AC adapter this is not happening and the capacity is fully utilized. This is also quicker.

That's strange. For me it's quicker if the device is turned on. When it's off it takes around 8-10 hours to charge but when it's on it's alot quicker.

hmmm, I don't know how this is possible?
If your device is on there is always power outage especially with programmes running, whilst if your device is off, there is no power drainage so device should charge quicker.
What rom are you using? software installed?

Latest official rom with alot of software installed. But it doens't make sence to me either. It's logical for something to charge faster when it's using no power (off) then when it is using power (on).
Combine battery threads ???
Hi to Moderators,
There are now several threads on the HD forum on battery and charging issues.
Can these be combined into one place and stickied, so we can get a clear picture?
Current threads are this one, plus:

I have a gut feeling from what I'm reading, that HTC have had a bad batch of batteries or charger circuits in the HD - in which case the best starting point is to call their service points and ask for help/replacement, instead of spending lots of time on other remedies. The symptoms described have lots of commonalities, and the HD is normally an excellent beastie for battery usage.
Thanks for all your help, ladies and gents! Your work is much appreciated.

Heya,
Don't know what it is but my battery life increased a tad. Am running Dutty's X3.0 with the 1.32.x.x. radio. Watching a 1 hour xvid dvd rip (no conversion) in coreplayer on full backlight with no HSDPA on, wifi or bluetooth takes away 20% of my battery, which is acceptable.
Don't think it's the SD card format though, it might be that I never have the activesync process on anymore by setting it to manual update and closing it (it otherwise keeps running.)
