Battery dying for no reason - G1 General

Hi, I am using Cyanogen's v4.1.999 and noticing a weird behavior on my G1. I charge my phone and it says its charged. Then after some hours if I try to do some stuff like browsing or downloading/installing software it just turns off from nowhere, and when I bring it on again the battery is under 15% and I got the dialog to connect my charger. The problem is that its like my battery meter is nuts, or my battery, or my rom.
Has anyone seen anything like it?

Not the ROM definitely a hardware issue. Also try to put questions like this in the Q&A, some people get pretty touchy about questions in the Dev forum.

For sure 100% it's a hardware issue

Anyway to test if its a battery or phone problem without getting a new battery?

well you can just call htc and they will replace the battery free as long as you send the old one back. theres a thread in accessories about it

[Q] Battery problem

Hey, I just bought an used HTC G1 from ebay. When I'm trying to use it, the phone just turns off with no warnning and with 80%~ of charge with only 10 minutes of use.. If I wait a little bit, I'm able to turn it on again and see that it has 80% of charge, but keep turning off.
I'm very confused because it just charge for a few minutes and the green led comes on.
Well, the phone was first with android 1.6 and then I flash cyanogen 2.2 but its the same think, and all the apps that I use to see the battery status indicate "good"
is the battery old or there's anything i'm missing?
Thank you!
(sorry for any english mistakes )
My two G1's I had same problems, the replacement batteries fixed the random shutoff of the phone.
Sounds like your battery is messed up. Did you see if the battery is swollen or a odd shape?
You can get a replacement on Amazon. You can get a two for one sale if you look around.

Oh im having the same problem and i notice my battery does have a lil bulge on the top it so i guess i will try a new battery i hope it works
I had problems with the battery too, if the battery is bumped, don't use it, it may explode and hurt you.
I cannot post links but I recommend the mugen battery.
I have it and it's working great.
it's the battery..u'll see that u can use it while it's plugged to charge.....
and when not...bang boom-off!!!
had the same probs....switched to a 2850mAh battery
and also, dont use any random charger!!!

[Q] Motorola Atrix charging problem

I charged my phone to 100% yesterday morning. However battery drained to 15% by night time and i turned the phone off. When i tried to charge my phone by the next morning, i was not able to not charge the phone and it was rebooting automatically. I removed the battery for 10 mins and tried charging again. It showed the charging symbol, but it was still stuck at 0%. After 20 minutes, the battery icon showed a question mark. I tried to charge the device through my laptop, but windows failed to recognize the device and it kept on rebooting automatically. I tried to reset the phone to factory settings, but it was of no avail. Even rebooting the phone did not help.
I bought the phone from At&t, when i was in the US. I only did OTA updates to 2.3.4. I did not even try to root the phone. Could someone help me with the problem?
Are you using OEM Battery/Charger? If no, try with OEM battery/charger. If yes, send back for warranty.

I`m using the one that came with the box. Is there any other way?
OEM means the one that came with your phone. Many people charge their phone with any charger whose connector will fit. Mostly they get away with it. When experiencing trouble, always go for the OEM one.

The item was bought in the states. I am currently working in India. Is returning the phone, the only option?
youre also not the only one like me, lots of atrix users hava this issue, the problem depends on phone idle , if you check battery usage you will see phone idle drains the battery like or more than display what very confiusing and not acceptable. i dont know what i should do also

Er? You yourself are confusing. High battery drain has NOTHING to do with his problem. Posting when you do not understand the problem is not acceptable. I don't know what I should do to you also.
The battery with a question mark is a sign that the phone does not recognise the battery inserted. In such a situation, the phone will not start up. You might want to get another battery to see if it's your phone or your battery. You could also test the battery on another Atrix.

The phone is charging properly now. Will get my friend`s atrix and will see how it goes. Thanks for your recommendation.
Having same problem. On faux123 kernel, deviance rom.
If idle uses high cpu (which is also the case for me), means phone not going to deep sleep. Need to troubleshoot further, but this may be the same in your case. Charging over 95% is not possible and battery drains quickly.

[Q] Miscalibrated battery, need help!

I need some suggestions on how to calibrate the battery on my n4. It got miscalibrated when I did the update 4.2 to 4.3 and I haven't been able to calibrate it since then, a week ago.
I tried using battery calibration from the store but it didn't work, I tried charging the phone from 0 to 100 and it didn't work.
I remember I had the same problem 2 years ago with my Atrix and I solved it by wiping the battery stats from recovery, but now twrp and Cwm removed this feature and I don't know how to solve my problem.
Maybe it would help flashing all back to stock with the toolkit?
If you have any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Just the answer I didn't expected, and frankly a pretty useless answer, everybody knows that battery calibration doesn't improve battery life.
But I have other problems, like I turn off my device at 80% and when I turn it on it's at 77%. Do you think that's normal?

Either faulty battery or do the following:
1.Completley discharge N4
2.Charge fully(+2 hours after hitting 100&) WITHOUT disconnecting from the charger.
3.Repeat for better results.

To be honest, I don't know.
But if I would be you I would just let it charge while it's off(So the big ass white battery icon).
Let me know if you got your battery sorted after the method I posted!

You mean off as in all the way off? If so, then that ~3% is being used when the phone boots.

I've had many phones, and none of them lost charge during the boot, at least not that many. I think that's the clear sign of battery miscalibration, I've had this problem before with another phone. Besides that, I've had a strange behaviour of the battery, for example I saw it lose 4% in 1 second, from 66 to 62 in a blink of an eye.

It's not that it's losing charge quickly, it's just the OS (or the hardware itself) doesn't always do the best job of reading it. There's not much you can do about that, and it's really not an issue unless you make it so by staring at your battery level all day.

Hi,
I'm having a similar issue. Phone rebooting to weird battery levels (not the %age it shutdown at).
Phone shutting down at 31% battery and rebooting to 0%.
I tried charging only to 100% yesterday with the phone ON.
Do I have to charge it even after it's charged to 100%?

I tried charging through the night and then discharging it completely and charging it completely again. I also tried deleting the batterystats file (even though I know it doesn't do anything)
So what do you suggest I should do? Get the phone replaced or get the battery changed?
I live in India and the phone is from Canada, so replacing the phone will take some time but I can get the battery replaced for around $20
Also my nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171 (in batter monitor widget)
Please tell me what I should do.

Before you replace the battery try to disconnect the battery's flex cable and reconnect it [after you charge to device to 100% and turn it off of course] check if its 'reset' the battery.

Shuts down as if low-battery, but with 50% - 95% left!

This has been driving me nuts for ages, and now I just use the battery to transfer my phone from one charger to another! But to be honest I haven't tried anything to fix it as yet.
It started with my phone shutting down when I took a few photos - now, if my phone gets down to 80% I expect it to shutdown. It won't fire back up until I put it on charge.
Occasionally when I try to turn it back on, it wont fire up, and the blue LED comes on and stays on until I charge it or take the battery out.
Occasionally it will reach 50%, but that would be a rare occasion! I do still have the original battery, which is now over two years old.
It's a great phone - if only the battery would last longer than 10 minutes under use! It hasn't been rooted or anything - it is as I got it from new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

A new battery is really cheap ( 15-25 usds) and probably would solve your problem.
There is no reason for this topic unless you have the original battery.

Your battery needs to be replaced..
Dial *#0228# this will reset the battery calibration. Charge it to 100%..
see if the problem still remains that means your battery is almost dead and expect a random shutdowns at anytime

I understand that the battery is probably past it's best, but it was the fact that it states that it has lots of life left, and then acts as if it doesn't that throws me. That's the reason why I have posted this topic.

I've done this now. Thanks for the tip. It doesn't seem to have made any difference though so it's probably just the battery.
I just expected it to indicate the correct battery level in the battery level indicator.
You live and learn! Thanks for the replies.

You sure its not just bad batteries? I didnt even try to buy a Samsung battery when I recently replaced mine... too many junk knockoffs/used/refurbs. I went with after market. Your issue sounds like a lot of the bad battery stories I read about though. I always charge a new battery with the phone off, and then run down to 1% or 2%. I never use fast charge either

i already bought new one yesterday . things are alright but still one issue : stop charging at 92% or 88%
Where are you getting your batteries, and how are you charging it when you get it? "New to you" batteries doesnt necessarily mean "brand new", and can still be junk
no it's original from Samsung store branch
you still havent told us how youre charging your new batteries
standard fast charger
Never mind, I give up. Im not going to beg for information. For someone who wants help, you sure dont want to be very specific with details that could help you. Im done trying to help you
