[Q] Motorola Atrix charging problem

I charged my phone to 100% yesterday morning. However battery drained to 15% by night time and i turned the phone off. When i tried to charge my phone by the next morning, i was not able to not charge the phone and it was rebooting automatically. I removed the battery for 10 mins and tried charging again. It showed the charging symbol, but it was still stuck at 0%. After 20 minutes, the battery icon showed a question mark. I tried to charge the device through my laptop, but windows failed to recognize the device and it kept on rebooting automatically. I tried to reset the phone to factory settings, but it was of no avail. Even rebooting the phone did not help.
I bought the phone from At&t, when i was in the US. I only did OTA updates to 2.3.4. I did not even try to root the phone. Could someone help me with the problem?

Are you using OEM Battery/Charger? If no, try with OEM battery/charger. If yes, send back for warranty.

I`m using the one that came with the box. Is there any other way?

OEM means the one that came with your phone. Many people charge their phone with any charger whose connector will fit. Mostly they get away with it. When experiencing trouble, always go for the OEM one.

The item was bought in the states. I am currently working in India. Is returning the phone, the only option?

youre also not the only one like me, lots of atrix users hava this issue, the problem depends on phone idle , if you check battery usage you will see phone idle drains the battery like or more than display what very confiusing and not acceptable. i dont know what i should do also

Er? You yourself are confusing. High battery drain has NOTHING to do with his problem. Posting when you do not understand the problem is not acceptable. I don't know what I should do to you also.
The battery with a question mark is a sign that the phone does not recognise the battery inserted. In such a situation, the phone will not start up. You might want to get another battery to see if it's your phone or your battery. You could also test the battery on another Atrix.

The phone is charging properly now. Will get my friend`s atrix and will see how it goes. Thanks for your recommendation.

Having same problem. On faux123 kernel, deviance rom.
If idle uses high cpu (which is also the case for me), means phone not going to deep sleep. Need to troubleshoot further, but this may be the same in your case. Charging over 95% is not possible and battery drains quickly.

currently, my Atrix always could not charge battery fully even using electric outlet. is there anybody know how to fix it.

You could try calibrating it.

Charge the phone until it no longer charges. Leaving it plugged in, shut the phone off, then pull the battery. Wait for it to boot up and display a ? and battery symbol. Then place the battery back in. It should read 5%. Leave it for a few seconds, then boot the phone. Should now read 100%.

This, but I would add, that when you reboot, go to recovery first and wipe battery stats.

Mine has the same problem. Never charges past 60%. Calibrating, wiping battery stats several times does not fix it. I plan to buy a new battery to see if that solves it but I am not optimistic. Search for the thread named "atrix not charging past 88%", no fix for me yet and several others.

re install rom and full wipe

Don't forget to flash the juggernaut battery fix too

Same issue here, the percentage isn't always the same though. One morning it will be 94, 96 the next, and 90 the next. Always at 4207mv at those points. Tried wiping batterystats full, empty, etc.

I thought this was already part of most roms out now?

Juggernauts fix helps the battery jumping issue, but not the battery not charging to 100%, at least not for me. The problem started after flashing official 4.5.91 and it has continued after I flashed to CM7. I am now used to removing the battery and putting it back in place while charging for it to read 100%, but it is annoying no one has found a cause or solution.

Swapping battery

Hi.
I recently purchased a new battery since the old one is kind of broken.
However it didn't really increase battery life at all. In fact it now shuts down at 35%.
How do I make sure it actually makes use of the whole new battery?

Yes it is.

You must calibrate the battery.
To do it you must be rooted.
Advanced method;
Use a root explorer and go to /data/system. Delete "batterystats.bin" file . Then drain all the battery and charge it while phone is off and unplug the cable whem it says full.. Thats all.
Also there is much easier way to do it if you want. Download battery calibrater app from google play and use it! BUT in any of these methods,you must be rooted.
After doing this it must be normal.Also flashing stock rom and non rooted musn't be problem

This misconception must stop being spread.
Though you're right about the charging bit, op should discharge until it's completely dead, then fully charge it and let it run out, repeat the process.

adytum is right. The phone doesn't need to be rooted. Rooted you can destroy the phones battery statistic file at once but you don't need to. Android permanently learns about your battery (high / low voltage) when charging and discharging.
Have some patience, give your new battery some full charges / discharges and everything should be OK.

Difficult question - doing big researches will lead to different answers.
The only thing for sure is that completely drained or somehow even completely full batteries will age faster because of electrochemical reactions. Completely drained is worst case, of course.
A common recommendation of the industrie is to store an unused battery charged at about 60-70% and then put it away in some cold storage. That is because even LiIo-batteries suffer self-discharge of about 5-10% per month so it could avoid both stressfull states (0% / 100%) for a long time.
Your phone will never physically drain the battery completely, but will shut down itself before damage is done (don't know if this limit/border could be tweaked, but with StockROMs you should be save). Although it might say 0% there is still some energy left. So it wouldn't hurt to "drain your battery completely" down to 0% a few time if you don't forget to charge it afterwards.
As Android stores the min and max voltage of your battery your really should do complete cycles if you want Android to get your battery statistics right. You even have to do this if you killed Androids battery file on a rooted phone.
Much more damage will be done by keeping the battery at high temperatures, e.g. playing heavy games

well u have purchased a junk battery (its rare but sometimes happens, give it back and get ur money back)
i myself use a powercell 1800mAh battery and it pretty much doubled my phones battery life (u could try it)

If you already have a rooted phone and no patience (no experience myself on this matter with ICS or JB), then you could use app "BatteryCalibration" to remove batterystats.bin file as was said in one of the initial postings.

if u use cm10 you can also enter cwm and whipe battery stats, i think under advanced

[Q] Nexus 4 shows wrong battery stats

Hi, I've bought a nexus 4 about a month ago. I works great and the battery life is good enought but i notice that sometimes I connect the charger (when the battery is 40% full for example) and a few minutes later it says it is 100%.
Ofcourse it's not and some minutes later it drops. If I reboot the phone it shows the correct percentaje, but I happens very often.
Somebody has the same issue?
I didn't try to wipe the battery stats because I didnt install a custom recovery. Is there any way to fix it without flashing it?

Most N4's have some quirky battery stat behaviour. You'll have to learn to live with it, wiping battery stats, or reflashing the stock images, or an alternative ROM, won't do anything to address this.

It's the first thing I noticed about the phone. I've only charged from 0 to 100 in a second once though when I first got the phone, aside from that just the occasional lazy updating of the actual percentage. Stressing the phone a bit tends to help it "catch up" to where it should be.
Edit: you know, it's good OCD therapy, it may help you get past your OCD if you have it.
If you don't have OCD, you certainly will now...

Yes, the same happened to me, the issue is that sometimes I lost track of when it plug it to the charger and after use it the battery drains. It is very annoying.
I will try to charge from 0 to 100 a few times to si if the stats sync with the real battery state...

I'm getting pretty consistent reading far as 0% - 100% goes (course I drained the battery down to zero twice and charged back up).
What I'm finding that seems rather weird is glitchy mV reading with battery monitor widget pro. It does decrease as the battery decreases as expected, what's unexpected is all the lil spikes upward in it's value over time, like every few mins it'll jump up like from 3995mv to 4040mv or similar jumps as if the widget can't get an accurate reading of the battery's mV level. So it look weird because the only time you would see the mV rising, is if you're charging it.
And I know someone else on this forums with a Nexus 4 that's actually showing positive mA values when he's not even plugged into a charger.
But as far as % reading goes, seems pretty accurate now, just the readings I'm getting from battery monitor widget had me concerned that the battery was bad on my less than a week old Nexus 4. My Nexus 7's history/stats look rock-stable by comparison, kind of wondering if it's an LG thing.

Well this is odd... i think it might be an issue with the -kind of- voltimeter (battery sensor? i dont know how to name it). The battery life is ok up to now but the stats are driving me crazy!

Those of us who look beyond just the % available are easily driven crazy.
But then again because I do, I was able to prove a certain brand of charger was incompatible with my Nexus tablet.

I tried to catch it in the act via adb and shell last fall pinging the voltage, fuel gauge, etc... but that was all my n00b self was good for.

I've noticed that my battery % is off also. Not as bad as jumping up to 100% or anything, but I notice that when charging, the % is 20% higher than the actual battery. It'll say fully charged, but when I reboot the phone it'll say something like 83%. That happens a lot, and not always at '100%'. If I reboot anytime during the charging process, it drops around 20%. I haven't tried to do it right after I connect it, but every time I do actually reboot it happens. Kinda weird. Not even close to a deal-breaker or anything, just a quirk that I wouldn't mind getting fixed.

My nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171
Is it a battery issue?
I have charged it completely (8 hours) many times and run it to the bottom , tried deleting battery stats etc but nothing has helped.
Shall I get the battery replaced?

tried to delete the battery stats file and wait for a while and see if any difference?

Well Google support definitely knows this is a big problem. After I explained the exact same issues I was having with the battery indicator being wrong they offered a in warranty replacement right away with no trouble shooting what so ever. Problem was they wanted to authorize my debit card for the full price of a phone plus shipping until they received mine back. Unfortunately I didn't have 230 bucks that I could just have tied up in authorization limbo for 2 weeks. So they transferred me to LG support because they have a return policy where they let you ship the phone back first. LG at first tried to say they only do paid repairs on Nexus 4's and that google is responsible for warranty's, but a little arguing about manufacturer warranty laws in the US and threatening to file a complaint with the FCC they agreed to replace the phone under LG warranty. Again they didn't do any troubleshooting at all. Upon explaining the problem they went right into replacement phone. This leads me to believe there is no easy fix or software problem they can update, but rather a hardware problem.

I have exactly this behavior all of a sudden the last 2 weeks.

I have worse issues....
We had the screen/digitizer replaced after my wife dropped the phone.
The phone now has some issues. It will charge, and operate ok until the battery reaches about 80%.
Then the touch will go crazy, and the phone will turn off.
Upon rebooting, the battery is suddenly at 0%.
I purchased a new battery and installed it. It charged to 100% the first time and the phone lasted for a while.
Then after that it refused to charge at all. Didn't matter how many times I did the power + volume up trick.
I put the original battery back in, and it charges, but of course dies after it reaches 80%.

Same here. Problems after screen replacement month or two ago, not sure that related. Battery went bad. After replacement with a new one (original not chinies) not stable: shows 100% charge then turn off on in 10 min, after powered on again shows 65 % and after 10 minutes plugged in 100% charged.
Driving me crazy... Fully wiped, factory reset all the same. Rooted and wiped battery stats not helped. Very frustrating if some one can suggest one else can be done...
The phone is just fine, powerfull . no reasons to replace

I also developed my battery issue about a month after replacing the screen and digitizer. I'm going to take it apart and clean the connectors and see if that helps, because I'm so annoyed I'm about to buy a new phone.

My guess is that the battery was damaged during the screen/digitizer replacing process. It happened to me recently. No biggie 24 € for a new LG original battery seems pretty cheap and the problem was solved. But why are nowdays batteries somewhat soft??

Shuts down as if low-battery, but with 50% - 95% left!

This has been driving me nuts for ages, and now I just use the battery to transfer my phone from one charger to another! But to be honest I haven't tried anything to fix it as yet.
It started with my phone shutting down when I took a few photos - now, if my phone gets down to 80% I expect it to shutdown. It won't fire back up until I put it on charge.
Occasionally when I try to turn it back on, it wont fire up, and the blue LED comes on and stays on until I charge it or take the battery out.
Occasionally it will reach 50%, but that would be a rare occasion! I do still have the original battery, which is now over two years old.
It's a great phone - if only the battery would last longer than 10 minutes under use! It hasn't been rooted or anything - it is as I got it from new.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A new battery is really cheap ( 15-25 usds) and probably would solve your problem.
There is no reason for this topic unless you have the original battery.

Your battery needs to be replaced..
Dial *#0228# this will reset the battery calibration. Charge it to 100%..
see if the problem still remains that means your battery is almost dead and expect a random shutdowns at anytime

I understand that the battery is probably past it's best, but it was the fact that it states that it has lots of life left, and then acts as if it doesn't that throws me. That's the reason why I have posted this topic.

I've done this now. Thanks for the tip. It doesn't seem to have made any difference though so it's probably just the battery.
I just expected it to indicate the correct battery level in the battery level indicator.
