Am i making a big mistake??? I bought the wizard for its technical capabilities but did not realize the problems i would have in the conversion process.
AAAAHG, I just cant seem to transfer all my data from my palm E2 to the wizard! I have the Palm E2 and a palm IIIx synced on the palm desktop and am trying to convert just the E2 to outlook so i can sync with the wizard (with the intention of selling my E2). I installed outook 2002 (palm desktop already installed) then installed the outlook conduits from the Palm installation cd then did a sync with outook.
Everything seemed to transfer ok to outlook but when i sync to the wizard my contacts and notes seemed to transfer over ok, but my calandar didnt. All i got was the last months appointments! And now when i resync my palm 3 (with a different username) the calendar is shifted 9 hours ahead! I think it set itself to pacific standard time and here in europe its GMT+1. My pc is from that time zone.
Along the way i accidentally erased my calendar on my E2!! AAARRG! What a pain this is. Going to try to resync my E2 with outlook to try to restore my E2 as i dont think i will give up my palm just yet.
Is there another safer way? I did an archive of the pst file from outlook in case everything is lost and will try to resync my wizard later, must restore my palm first as its the only thing i can trust.
Btw i think the standard calendar, notes, memo (does not exist on ppc) function on the ppc is way inferior to the palms. Esthetically and functionally speaking it SUCKS! Is there another program i can install that gives me the same look and funtion of the palms? What the heck is up with having to scroll between day, week, month, year views when on the palm you can just select the icon??????????????
I like the wizard and the funtionality but am having second thoughts.....................
I also did the move from Palm (m500) to the new Wizard (Qteck 9100). Love the new wizard, has some very nice functions on it, but I also miss some standard functionalities of the Palm OS. eg working with categories and remembering the last used category, altough I really love the possibility of WM 5.0 to link different cateogries to one object, which wasn't possible with my palm.
Anyway, to be able to transfer al my data, I first made sure all my Palm data was synchronized correctly with Outlook. I used PocketMirror (sync with outlook) combined with SwitchSync (sync with outlook and Palm Desktop). Try some different settings within PocketMirror to be able to sync different categories correctly (free version only sync's a limited number of categories). Once all this was done, I didn't use my palm anymore and synchronized all my data from within outlook to my pocket pc
Good luck!

Glad to hear that you were successful with the change. Well, i managed to recover all the info that i synched with outlook back to my palm and backed everthing up on the palm desktop, then reinstalled everthing to disassociate with outook. The palms seems to to be refunctionning properly now.
I cant however seem to sync everything i magaged to get to outlook on my wizard! Contacts, notes/memos, were pretty much in tact, but the calendar i only got the last 2 months info. When i resync choosing just the calendar i get an error message saying the profile is not the same. Funny when i was forced to choose the profile and was password protected.
I think i will have to reload outlook and do a hardreset and start over. Fortunately i also exported the outlook pst file. I hope it works. If you have any other ideas, i would appreciate it.
did you try the "delete device" in the ActiveSync application?
This already resolved many activesync problems for me...
ActiveSync will then forget all your specific connection settings and restart a proper sync. connection when you reconnect your wizard.
Thanks for the advice, in fact it worked and i can now see my calendar for all of 2005. Still unsure of how to back up or archive my info. I just did an archive and it deleted my calendar again!!!
I think i will go ahead and reinstall outlook 2002 then synch with the wizard. I think in that case i wont even need to import a backup or archive pst file.
Which version outlook are you using btw. Can i install another version such as 2003, my wizard is in french but i prefer to have outlook in english, i hope there isnt any compatibility problems!!
ciao
It works fine with Outlook 2003. I don't know for older versions then 2002.
The language won't be a problem. I use a dutch outlook without problems..

Mogwai,
the original condition you reported with your Calendar on your new Wizard is the correct condition. MS assumes you are going to do most of your work on the desktop and will want the complete record there and not necessarily on your device. In order to save device RAM/Flash, ActiveSync only transfers the past 2 weeks of appointments (plus all future appointments). If it got to Outlook correctly, then you've got everything you should have.
If you must have more calendar data on your device, then you need to go to AS Options, click on Calendar, and then click the Settings button. You can have up to 6 months of your past appointments on your device with ActiveSync 4.x.
I hope this helps!

To be exact: you can choose that you would like to sync
all calendar appointments or
last two weeks or
last month or
last three months or
last six months - and all upcoming appointments of course.

ActiveSync and Outlook Notes (body missing)
hi,
In the same subject I am an ex-palm user switching to PPC, I have used the same way to get all my Palm memos into my Outlook (hotsync with Outlook as conduit) so the memos ar ein Outlook and readable without problems,
the problem is when I open them into my Wizard : they don't have any body (!)
Has anyone came accross this ?
Do any more of these exist other then Jeyo?
I've tried Jeyo and it doesn't play nice with Vista/Outlook 2007 - are there any others?
I dont mind if it's a stand alone application rather than an outlook plugin, but the latter is preferred.
Cheers
I have a program SMS Cool
I got it from Handango.
If you email me I can send you details, or you can get a demo of it.
That looks like it's been a while since it's been updated - not sure if it'll work with the new active sync/MDC in Vista?
Well now that there are all the various ways to sync Google Calendar with windows mobile devices, I'm convinced there must be a way to do the same with Windows Live Calendar (plus I think they both use the .ics format) Anybody who's familiar with this type of app, can you give us some direction?
Thanks!
MJB
You need to add one more option to the poll:
"No, but I would if it could sync OTA with my WinMo phone!"
B/c that is where I am at right now. Until it can OTA sync with my phone, I need to stick with Exchange for my calendar.
Ideally, WM6.1 would add support for multiple calendars and WL Calendar would add OTA sync. Syncing both a Work and Personal calendar OTA would be the hotness.
I feel you...I was implying that this solution would sync over the air. I seriously have never synced with my desktop. I use hotmail, so windows live (in its current state) can handle email and contacts over the air just fine. Now if only we could get the calendar functionality going! Thanks for the reply and hopefully this will continue to pique the interest of other readers.

I feel like I could also live with some desktop app that can sync my windows live calendar with an exchange account, then access it through direct push. I've read about a product called Calgoo http://www.calgoo.com that apparently can sync Google Calendar with an exchange server...does this sound like a possibility?
MJB
Bump? Anyone? Bueller?
This is a frustration of mine as well...one of the key components to the "Outlook" suite is calendaring, and that is the one component they have purposely left out so far. From what I have read about Microsoft's new Sync framework, I suspect that it has something to do with the launch of that new product and the impact it will have on the direction of Microsoft's mobile/disconnected computing offerings...
That said, it still doesn't address my needs today...the answer to mbial's question at the start is simply no...This has frustrated me to the point where I was going to write an application to handle this, however I ran into a wall when I discovered that the Windows Live API explicitly excludes a WL Calendar interface. So for now I am resorting to painful manual .ics exports and syncing with Outlook...no OTA yet...
MoonMan,
Despite the Windows Live API excluding a calendar interface, I don't believe all of the gCal syncing solutions explicitly rely on Google APIs. Take a look at solutions like these:
http://oggsync.com/index.php/windows-mobile-documentation/detailed-feature-chart/
or
http://www.goosync.com/
which permit full two-way syncing with no middle-man server. GCal and Windows Live Calendars aren't all that different in features or functionality, so I have to believe that this is a possibility. Keep the ideas flowing!
Best,
MJB
Here are 3 examples of open-source gCal sync solutions...anyone want to take a look at the code and see if we can repurpose these apps for Windows Live Calendar?

One more thing...
After scouring MSDN and dev.live.com I have learned that the Live Calendar APIs are not, in fact, available yet. This is surprising considering one of the developers stated that the API was coming soon way back in April of 07. Sucks.
MJB
Are there some new information? (Sync Windows Live Calendar would be a great feature.. if we cant sync, i dont know for what the calendar should be.)
greets blackx
Can I ask why you haven't tried using Outlook 07 for hotmail :S maybe that might solve your problems and let you sync the calendar. Don't flame me if I missed something or this is a stupid suggestion because I didn't totally comprehend the situation D:

I have Outlook 2003, but i dont use it.
I like to be portable (i use the http webinterface..) so i can check emails all over the world.. my calendar would be available for my messenger contacts, and i dont have to install/use more software then i really need.
(sorry, but i dont like to use outlook, its a nice program but i think web-based application would be the future..)

The goal here is to sync over the air, not using a desktop. There has been some progress made though, as Windows Live Wave 3 is being rolled out and it's possible the Calendar APIs are now available. Also, I've been in contact with Thomas Wetzel of SynchPST. He is going to try and make the next version of SynchPST compatible with Microsoft Office Outlook Connecter, which would allow those of us with exchange accounts to use desktop outlook/exchange to have proper push of our Windows Live services (although this would require you leave outlook running on a computer at all times, it would be a big step in the right direction.) Take a look at our conversation:
Original Email:
I recently stumbled upon your product SynchPST because I am looking for a way to synchronize my Windows Live Hotmail account with my hosted exchange account. Presently your tool is able to read and sync the data file for my exchange account, however, it is unable to read the data file for Office Outlook Connecter (which is how I retrieve my hotmail into my outlook.) Is there any possibility of adding this functionality to SynchPST so it can read/sync data stores generated by the Outlook Connector? This would be HUGE for many people and I would be happy to pay a premium over your standard and professional products for this feature. Thanks in advance and I hope to hear a response from you soon.
Response:
Thank you for your reply.
I downloaded Outlook Connector and could reproduce this behavior. I will try to implement the synchronization of a Windows Live account in the next releases.
Regards

google Windows Live Essentials and Windows Live Sync.
or rather, check out www.liveside.net
MS is releasing a new Windows Mobile client that will utilize this client for over the air sync of contacts, mail, calendar, and more. just a heads up for everyone wondering
any progress?
its been nearly a year, is it not possible to ota sync with live calender?
It sucks. I want OTA syncing of my calendar. Its the only reason my phone even gets plugged into my computer anymore.

Live Framework CTP
Well, I hadn't checked back into this in a while, but it turns out that the Live Framework Community Technology Preview (CTP) was released in mid-March and DOES have access to calendar functions. Has anyone taken a look at this?

Hello Everyone!
I am posting this from my CDMA Shift while eating @ Subway, here in Charleston, SC.
Since we don't have access to the SD card on the SnapVue side, how do you back up your contacts, calendar and such so that in the event of a hard reset you won't lose everything? I rely heavily on my contacts, etc.
Some have said the best way to go would be to sign up for one of them services that offers MS Exchange so that everything is backed up on their servers. I am sort of leery about doing that. What is everyone here doing to back up their stuff on SnapVue?
Thanks for reading my post!

ALLO, ALLO! G'day, Mate,
How is life in Sydney? I have some family out there (and in Perth).
I read your other post, which states to use the search function under keyword "Liberate". I am going to do this right now. But just so I am clear, by liberating the Shift, you'll be able to sync it over to the Shift via the Vista OS?
Is it best to sync it to another computer (say my work desktop) or the Shift? If anything, I am sure you can create two partnerships.
Thanks,
-Harold
How did you know I'm from sydney? I used the phillipines as my default location. Anyways currently there is no way to synchronize winmo with other devices because the synchronization is done internally. They are still finding ways to synchronize via usb. You have another option you can copy your outlook database then paste it in the outlook folder in another computer.
Where abouts is your family?lol...
LMAO I didnt see the location tab at the corner...hahaha
Hi guys! im having trouble synchronizing my htc uni to my htc shift via bluetooth. What puzzling me is that, it detects the device in fact, i can even transfer files from my uni to the shift. Did some tweaking in shift's vista but to no avail. Appreciate any ideas from you brothers. Thanks!
idownload mo yung mga driver para sa Windows Mobile Device Center and Sync Center para makapag synchronize ka.
Hello,
Has anyone managed to make Mobile Device Center to talk with outlook 2010? It doesn't see it as an active mail client... There are a few posts around the net, but only questions thus far.
Where;d you get a copy of office 2010 from to test this with anyway?

I found a copy over at piratebay. Its a technical preview
Oooh well you see Santa came early this year...
It was released on MSDN, wasn't it? Torrents were out about a week earlier than that...
[EDIT] What daddy_yankee1980 said, it's a technical preview. Surprisingly complete, to tell you the truth, very fast and lots of new features, but it won't talk to ActiveSync...
Here's the error I've been getting:
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.
Bummer... So, noone else? Am I the only one to have seen this?
Obviously not enough people have tried this

You're not alone! I have same issue with Office 2010 and Windows 7 Please let me know if you find any way to solve this!
Yea, I'm running 7.127 too, but I think the problem is with Outlook itself... they probably forgot to make it hook onto something...
I'm on the RC of Windows 7 x64 (7100) and have this issue. I really like Office 2010 so far though - it looks more grown up.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this sometime soon... don't really want to have to go back to Office 2007.

I'm having the same trouble with Device Manager and Outlook 2010 TP...
Here the same problem: Office / Outlook 2010 TP on Windows 7 x64 7100. I'll revert to Office 2007, and wait.
Ain't it a shame? I can't imagine how they missed this one....
Can't sync PIM - looking for solution
yeap. I have installed yesterday the Office 2010 TP and I have loved the new features especially in Outlook 2010. But I can't sync PIM data anymore too. I'm using Win7+WMDC 6.1.6965+WinMo 6.1. I don't wanna back to 2007 but if I can't find solution I will!
I have sended a e-mail to Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering Team in http://blogs.technet.com/office2010/contact.aspx asking about that ... let's wait!
Office 2010 + Windows 7 + WMDC - The Solution is here!
Works for me!
Go into Control Panel and remove the driver under Network Adapters
that appeared when my device was connected. Once removed.
Reboot Windows. Connect the device. Let Windows 7 reinstall WMDC from the download and it "slowly" install the drivers.
Done... everything works!
Maybe will be to reinstall Office 2010 too!

Um... you managed to sync your contacts/calendar with this procedure? Because this appears to just install the device, whereas the problem is with Office not being registered as a PIM...
I believe that the issue is WMDC doesnt currently support x64 Outlook 2010. I've seen a couple of reports that installing JUST the OL2k7 application (custom/advanced install deselect everything apart from OL2k7) over the top works as a workaround.
Yet to be able to test this as away from home....
I had to keep Outlook 2007 too, as 2010 technical preview doesn't have WMDC providers.
Also, the same happens with OneNote 2010, but there I had to uninstall OneNote 2010, reinstall ON 2007 and unpair/pair the smartphone to get OneNote mobile to sync again. Once I install ON 2010 to the working setup, it breaks again.
So, if you want to sync, don't install Outlook and ON 2010, keep 2007 .
O2010TP
64-bit doesn't work but x86 version does allow full sync on all apps - including Outlook.
Anyone have any problems sync'ing with OneNote 2010? I'm using the x86 version and the onenote option doesn't appear in the content sync settings menu anymore.
having the same problem ... don't want to roll back to the 2007 ... ^^
