Outlook / Office 2010 and ActiveSync / Mobile Center - Networking

Hello,
Has anyone managed to make Mobile Device Center to talk with outlook 2010? It doesn't see it as an active mail client... There are a few posts around the net, but only questions thus far.

Where;d you get a copy of office 2010 from to test this with anyway?

I found a copy over at piratebay. Its a technical preview

Oooh well you see Santa came early this year...
It was released on MSDN, wasn't it? Torrents were out about a week earlier than that...
[EDIT] What daddy_yankee1980 said, it's a technical preview. Surprisingly complete, to tell you the truth, very fast and lots of new features, but it won't talk to ActiveSync...

Here's the error I've been getting:
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.
Bummer... So, noone else? Am I the only one to have seen this?

Obviously not enough people have tried this

You're not alone! I have same issue with Office 2010 and Windows 7 Please let me know if you find any way to solve this!

Yea, I'm running 7.127 too, but I think the problem is with Outlook itself... they probably forgot to make it hook onto something...

I'm on the RC of Windows 7 x64 (7100) and have this issue. I really like Office 2010 so far though - it looks more grown up.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this sometime soon... don't really want to have to go back to Office 2007.

I'm having the same trouble with Device Manager and Outlook 2010 TP...

Here the same problem: Office / Outlook 2010 TP on Windows 7 x64 7100. I'll revert to Office 2007, and wait.

Ain't it a shame? I can't imagine how they missed this one....

Can't sync PIM - looking for solution
yeap. I have installed yesterday the Office 2010 TP and I have loved the new features especially in Outlook 2010. But I can't sync PIM data anymore too. I'm using Win7+WMDC 6.1.6965+WinMo 6.1. I don't wanna back to 2007 but if I can't find solution I will!
I have sended a e-mail to Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering Team in http://blogs.technet.com/office2010/contact.aspx asking about that ... let's wait!

Office 2010 + Windows 7 + WMDC - The Solution is here!
Works for me!
Go into Control Panel and remove the driver under Network Adapters
that appeared when my device was connected. Once removed.
Reboot Windows. Connect the device. Let Windows 7 reinstall WMDC from the download and it "slowly" install the drivers.
Done... everything works!
Maybe will be to reinstall Office 2010 too!

Um... you managed to sync your contacts/calendar with this procedure? Because this appears to just install the device, whereas the problem is with Office not being registered as a PIM...

I believe that the issue is WMDC doesnt currently support x64 Outlook 2010. I've seen a couple of reports that installing JUST the OL2k7 application (custom/advanced install deselect everything apart from OL2k7) over the top works as a workaround.
Yet to be able to test this as away from home....

I had to keep Outlook 2007 too, as 2010 technical preview doesn't have WMDC providers.
Also, the same happens with OneNote 2010, but there I had to uninstall OneNote 2010, reinstall ON 2007 and unpair/pair the smartphone to get OneNote mobile to sync again. Once I install ON 2010 to the working setup, it breaks again.
So, if you want to sync, don't install Outlook and ON 2010, keep 2007 .

O2010TP
64-bit doesn't work but x86 version does allow full sync on all apps - including Outlook.

Anyone have any problems sync'ing with OneNote 2010? I'm using the x86 version and the onenote option doesn't appear in the content sync settings menu anymore.

having the same problem ... don't want to roll back to the 2007 ... ^^

Outlook 2007, Sync'ing Calendar & Tasks... no details...

Hey all,
I'm currently testing out the Beta 2 version of Microsoft Office Pro +, and apart from this issue I'm impressed so far...
When I create a calendar appointment, or task with Outlook, any details that I put in the notes section of the item used to (with Outlook 2003) transfer over to the PPC Calendar and Tasks to be able to view and edit.
But now it's blank. It copies the appointment, the times, whether it's busy/free etc, but refuses to display any of the details that I put in the notes.
Is there anything I can do about this, or is this a glitch with the new software and it's tough? I'm using a HTC Uni (T-Mobile MDA Pro), so posted it in the Universal Board, as don't know if it's a General issue with all devices or just this one.
Cheers!
Dave.

Are you using Office 2007 with Windows XP or Windows Vista?
I'm on XP at the mo, but if you're using Vista I'll jump in the deep end and try that...
Cheers.
HI, I have the problem the other way around. I am using office 2007 beta with activesync 4.2. when I add notes to a calendar item on my universal, and then sync it with my desktop, I lose all my notes on both ppc and desktop.
This is very frustating as I am in the habit of typing meeting notes directly into calendar items on my universal.
Can anyone help, please?
Thanks in advance.
I'm using Office 2007 on Win XP. I had it running with AS 4.1 and now with 4.2. Both are no problem. I guess I just got lucky.
Has no-one any ideas how I can fix this
WM6, Vista, Office 2007 Sync Problem
Hello,
I've just upgraded my Universal (O2 Exec), to jwrightmcps' 2.02 Version
Windows Mobile 6.
While on my desktop I'm using WinXP +AS 4.5, and Office 2003 without a problem .
However, on my Laptop (ThinkPad T43), running Windows Vista Ultimate (+Windows Mobile Device Center - The equivalant of ActiveSync), and Office 2007, I'm having problem syncing the device.
I don't get any error on the laptop, but get an 0x8000FFFF error on the device.
None of my Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes etc. is synced in either way.
any one got the same problem?
it is obvious that the combination is the problem, as I didn't experience any problem before upgrading to Vista. (WinXP with ActiveSync 4.5 + Office 2007 worked fine).
any ideas for solutions?

Have you updated your version of WMDC - there was an update a month or so ago. It's referred to in one of the threads on Uni Upgrading.
Bad bad bad!! I'm using final version of Vista, Final version Office 2007, Just downloaded WMDC last week and Dopod 900/universal Windows Mobile 6 Jwright.
if you open outlook 2007 and then write your contact and then in notes just write something.., after you finished synchronizing, the contact was successfully copied onto the Dopod 900, but the the note didn't get copied!
If you write the notes within the contacts under Dopod 900, and then synchronizing it, the note within contact would be copied back onto computer with no problem. so it's only the other way around the problem
Also I have a second problem: Whenever I leave my Dopod 900 synced connected with my laptop and when there is a phone call coming in then I proceed to unplug the usb to pick up the phone, This may result in some sort of data corruption in syncing status, I think. Because after that, when I try to re-synhronize the dopod 900 again, it would try to synchronize from ground 0, so it would delete every synchronized data such as contacts, tasks, calendar in my Dopod 900 and re-transfer from desktop computer into this device all over again.

I wish I could do that. I don't think I can since I'm using Vista.
Is this real?
You can't use AS 4.5 with Vista and it doesn't sync correct with Office 2007 otherwise? If that's right that is a classic Microsoft snafu.
Works fine for me with Xp and office 2007 though, on AS 4.5.

Anyhow, I bought HTC Athena today and the problem didn't happen with HTC Athena. So perhaps it's device specific.

[WM6.5] "Enable Updates" in Pocket Outlook?

So I'm poking around in Pocket Outlook, and under "Menu>Tools>" there's a Greyed out item named "Enable Updates". I tried searching for any info regarding this, but couldn't find any. I can't find anything that allows me to use the item from the menu, but was curious what it was for. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Thanks for the info!
Yeah, it's an Exchange 2010 feature and seems it will also work with WM6.1:

Lame.
wait ... there will be updates for everyone else, right ?
I'm running Office 2010 beta and quite enjoy the conversation view setting. Makes the inbox much less cluttered puts consecutive mails nicely in proportion.
A problem however - When I try and set up my TP2 with ActiveSync it doesn't allow me to sync my mail and calender. Says that Outlook is not installed.
I suppose the default Activesync version isn't compatible with office 2010, so anyone know of some updates or tweaks?
Thank you very much
I am nearly sure you have a 64 bit system. try it on 32bit system and office 2010 will sync.

Correct, and yes, I'm using 64 bit on my computer. Office 2007 sync perfectly on the 64-bit. Oh well, for the mean time I'm "downgraded" again to 2007 until the final version comes out.

Active sync with Office 10 beta

Hi,
Just got my first Windows Mobile ever, and ofcourse its the HTC HD2 !
Very impressed with the screen, and the fast CPU, which makes quite a fast phone.
Before I get to the subject, I got a few issues/questions
1. My phone came with my native language. How do I loathe that! Can't google a single thing! So how do I change language?
So far I found out I need to change the actual ROM ? No way around that?
2. How do I change time it takes before phone locks itself?
3. How do I quickly change profile?
4. How do I select things? For instance, doing something in file explorer, always starts the program/whatever, when I want to copy it to another location.
5. Quicker way to enter non-english letters? Quite cumbersome to hold a key down, then drag to the right letter.
6. How do I know I've received a new SMS, when the phone has gone to sleep? e.g. no blinking LEDS ?
7. How do I use Footprints? I was under the impression, that you use 1 picture as "base", then you add pictures under that base. How do I add pictures? If not, then I don't understand the purpose of footprints.
So to the subject at hand.
I got Windows 7 64 bits installed, and have Office 2010 beta for 64 bits. When Active Sync starts, it claims no email program have been installed, or that its not compatible. What gives?
Do I need to downgrade to Office 2007 in order to sync? If not, what other email programs can I sync with?
I can't help you with most of those, but re: #4
Press and hold, you'll get a context menu.

Another issue:
Very often phone refuses to send SMS. Is this fixed in later ROM versions?
Had the same issue with Outlook 2010 64 bit. And the Answer is pretty simple but also not exciting:
There is no 64 bit WMDC. And the 64 bit Outlook 2010 does only allow 64 bit Add-ons.
For the time beeing you can only sync with Outlook 2010 in the 32 bit version. As I recall what I've read in other threads they wont deliver a 64 bit WMDC until Office is released

I'm using RC of Win 7 though, will upgrade shortly, but I wanted to sync my phone first.

Also you might want to try using WMDC instead of activsync? have no idea how you got Activsync installed on Win7, but it's not the right tool for the job.
Also, I'm running Win7x64 with Office 2010RCx64 and all works nicely, not syncing the phone via that path (Exchange 2010 sync OTA) but no warnings.

The reason why not working, is that the Outlook Plug-In in the WMDC is still a 32 bit Application - even if you use the 64 bit version of WMDC.
I had he the same issue when I tried the 64 bit Beta version of Office 2010.
And when I tried to install the 32 bit version it refused to install too.
You need to uninstall ALL parts of the 64 bit Office before you can install the 32 bit version.

New Dell Mobile Sync software

As it says just in-case you haven't seen it yet, but be warned it is based on Nero 10 with a bit of Dell stuff thrown in, anyways heres the direct download link
http://www.nero.com/link.php?gen_id=10&to=9999&installmd5=mhubdell&prg=installmhubdell-1.exe
Hmmm, 140+mb install you can tell it was made by Nero
/edit and it's trying to spam me with toolbars, another Nero habit.
Tested it last night.. Seems like an unfinished version, it asks me to purchase the full version to be able to sync, not just import :s
And furthermore, dell update screen specifies that this should also have outlook sync capabilities.. I don't understand how that will be possible though.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Agree with the comments above. I also found that after downloading and installing it, it then told me that there were updates available! And of course it requires a reboot each time (why on earth should the installation of a PDA sync program require an operating system reboot?!)
The lack of Outlook synchronisation is a disaster for me. I don't do GMail, and all my contacts/diary/to dos/notes are in Outlook. Windows Mobile Device Centre may have had its problems, but at least it let me synchronise my WinMo phones with Outlook.
Surely Dell can't remove this functionality with the roll-out of 2.2?

Why in the world would Dell go to a sync program with 64 bit issues when by default, ALL Dell laptops come with 64 bit Win7 installed????
it is not an office 2010 problem. it is a activesync problem. activesync has no 64 bit support. running office 2010 32 bit on 64 bit windows works fine. the activesync thus also the dell sync program work fine as they rely on activesync.
btw if you look in the market and search for dell you will find the dell (nero) backup program. while you wait for the update to come next week , one can make a backup allready

cause it works with 32 bit office.
furthermore there is a windows phone 7 sync software which runs 64 bit.
hopefully this will be used instead of activesync.
Works for me with Windows 7 64 bit. First I deleted ADB interface in device manager and restarted. That may not be necessary. After the ADB interface has been reinstalled by Windows I started the new mobile sync manager and it recognized the Streak quickly under devices. After removing the USB connection it may take 1 or 2 tries reseating the USB plug in the computer before the Streak is being recognized again. A little fickle, but it works.

.. And with 1.6 Streak or 2.1 / 2.2?
BTW: I can also get it recognized in Dell Mobile Sync software, but only if i select "Copy media files to/from your computer(MTP)" mode on the streak
On Dell Sync Manager it works in "Charge only" mode..
if you have office 2010 64 bit there is NO WAY to directly sync outlook contacts (and so on) with ANY device EXCEPT iphone DOT

Backup/Restore AND synchronize with Outlook both work. A disclaimer here, I use 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate, but still use 32-bit Office 2007, and Outlook is still version 2003.
The first time I tried synchronize the Dell Mobile software crashed. However, after upgrading it works fine now. Remember, to sync you have to have "USB connected" set to "off".
By the way, reconnecting to Dell Mobile Sync always seems to take a few tries of plugging in and re-plugging the USB cable.

BTW: I can also get it recognized in Dell Mobile Sync software, but only if i select "Copy media files to/from your computer(MTP)" mode on the streak
On Dell Sync Manager it works in "Charge only" mode..

The Dell Mobile Sync will only work if you have the "Dell Sync" app on your Streak. It did come with Steve's 2.2 version 1.2 (what I am using now) and, presumably, will be included in the official Froyo. To sync 1.6 or 2.1 you can use the original Dell software.
Other Outlook Sync Methods
For those who cannot sync because they use Outlook 2010 64 bit or are having other problems, there are other solutions to sync Outlook with the Streak. syncdroid.net lists most of them in a chart. Cross reference the software with what you want to sync (calendar, contacts, notes, tasks), how you want to sync (wireless, wi-fi, usb), and your Outlook version to get your solutions. Many of them are free.
Slightly off topic but is there anyway of stopping the Dell Sync app from appearing on my phone when I connect it to my PC as I now just sync with google contract and google calendar and have no need for Dell Sync?
What exactly is included with the new sync software?
According to this site http://www.syncdroid.net/dell-mobile-sync, the new (Nero) version of Dell Mobile Sync will only synchronise Contacts from Outlook, and will not synchronise Calendar, Tasks or Notes. It also says that Dell are removing their Tasks and Notes applications from the 2.2 build.
Can anybody who has upgraded to 2.2 please confirm that this is the case?
