[WM6.5] "Enable Updates" in Pocket Outlook? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

So I'm poking around in Pocket Outlook, and under "Menu>Tools>" there's a Greyed out item named "Enable Updates". I tried searching for any info regarding this, but couldn't find any. I can't find anything that allows me to use the item from the menu, but was curious what it was for. Anyone care to enlighten me?

This functions works with Exchange 2010
I don't know how, but it works only with 2010

SMS Sync works only with Exchange 2010 too...

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, it's an Exchange 2010 feature and seems it will also work with WM6.1:
Over the Air Update Mode
You can now push new Outlook Mobile updates/new versions to Windows Mobile 6.1 and above. This is really nice since you no longer have to wait for a new Windows Mobile OS version to obtain a new version of Outlook Mobile.

Also, slightly off-topic: Has anyone figured out how to actually send SMS from Outlook/OWA with Exchange 2010?

Outlook 2007, Sync'ing Calendar & Tasks... no details...

Hey all,
I'm currently testing out the Beta 2 version of Microsoft Office Pro +, and apart from this issue I'm impressed so far...
When I create a calendar appointment, or task with Outlook, any details that I put in the notes section of the item used to (with Outlook 2003) transfer over to the PPC Calendar and Tasks to be able to view and edit.
But now it's blank. It copies the appointment, the times, whether it's busy/free etc, but refuses to display any of the details that I put in the notes.
Is there anything I can do about this, or is this a glitch with the new software and it's tough? I'm using a HTC Uni (T-Mobile MDA Pro), so posted it in the Universal Board, as don't know if it's a General issue with all devices or just this one.
Cheers!
Dave.
It's working for me. Sorry, that's all I can tell you.

Are you using Office 2007 with Windows XP or Windows Vista?
I'm on XP at the mo, but if you're using Vista I'll jump in the deep end and try that...
Cheers.
HI, I have the problem the other way around. I am using office 2007 beta with activesync 4.2. when I add notes to a calendar item on my universal, and then sync it with my desktop, I lose all my notes on both ppc and desktop.
This is very frustating as I am in the habit of typing meeting notes directly into calendar items on my universal.
Can anyone help, please?
Thanks in advance.
I'm using Office 2007 on Win XP. I had it running with AS 4.1 and now with 4.2. Both are no problem. I guess I just got lucky.
Has no-one any ideas how I can fix this
WM6, Vista, Office 2007 Sync Problem
Hello,
I've just upgraded my Universal (O2 Exec), to jwrightmcps' 2.02 Version
Windows Mobile 6.
While on my desktop I'm using WinXP +AS 4.5, and Office 2003 without a problem .
However, on my Laptop (ThinkPad T43), running Windows Vista Ultimate (+Windows Mobile Device Center - The equivalant of ActiveSync), and Office 2007, I'm having problem syncing the device.
I don't get any error on the laptop, but get an 0x8000FFFF error on the device.
None of my Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Notes etc. is synced in either way.
any one got the same problem?
it is obvious that the combination is the problem, as I didn't experience any problem before upgrading to Vista. (WinXP with ActiveSync 4.5 + Office 2007 worked fine).
any ideas for solutions?

Have you updated your version of WMDC - there was an update a month or so ago. It's referred to in one of the threads on Uni Upgrading.
Bad bad bad!! I'm using final version of Vista, Final version Office 2007, Just downloaded WMDC last week and Dopod 900/universal Windows Mobile 6 Jwright.
if you open outlook 2007 and then write your contact and then in notes just write something.., after you finished synchronizing, the contact was successfully copied onto the Dopod 900, but the the note didn't get copied!
If you write the notes within the contacts under Dopod 900, and then synchronizing it, the note within contact would be copied back onto computer with no problem. so it's only the other way around the problem
Also I have a second problem: Whenever I leave my Dopod 900 synced connected with my laptop and when there is a phone call coming in then I proceed to unplug the usb to pick up the phone, This may result in some sort of data corruption in syncing status, I think. Because after that, when I try to re-synhronize the dopod 900 again, it would try to synchronize from ground 0, so it would delete every synchronized data such as contacts, tasks, calendar in my Dopod 900 and re-transfer from desktop computer into this device all over again.

I wish I could do that. I don't think I can since I'm using Vista.
Is this real?
You can't use AS 4.5 with Vista and it doesn't sync correct with Office 2007 otherwise? If that's right that is a classic Microsoft snafu.
Works fine for me with Xp and office 2007 though, on AS 4.5.

Yes it's very real. AS 4.5 not working under Vista.
Anyhow, I bought HTC Athena today and the problem didn't happen with HTC Athena. So perhaps it's device specific.

SMS inbox in outlook

Hi there,
Is there any other software (like Jeyo) that allows me to see my sms messages in outlook?
Regards,
Dennis
I'm using Jeyo Mobile Extender 2.5. As long as my phone is connected to the pc I can send and receive SMS. It's worth the price.
PS - I have never found anything out there free to send SMS from Outlook. M$ had a trial version of a package but that was pay per SMS since you did not use you phone to send them.
hope this helps you out.
I've been a Jeyo Mobile Extender user for a long time, but now with Windows Vista this software is no more working... or better I'm not able to make it work...
I'm going crazy... I think I'll hate Vista really soon!!
The latest version V2.5 is suppose to work with Vista. I know it is working with Office 2007 as I am running that on XP. Try downloading the latest version and give it a go.
I'm using Windows Vista, Office 2007 and the last version of Jeyo Mobile Extender... but it doesn't work anyway...
It's a "Vista" problem I suppose... cause till 2 mothes ago I used XP and Office 2007 and everything was going right with Jeyo!!!
(Once again I apologize for my English )

Thanks but your version does not syncing with the PC like Wm SMS SYNC does.
I am sorry guys. But I wiped my whole download dir last week forgetting about this app.Maybe it is still available on the net.
Anyway. It did go commercial so I don't think the programmer wants me to spread an old free copy around. Neither I am allowed by XDA, I think to do so.
Found a similar app as WM SMS Sync, Efficasoft's Mobile Express freeware.
http://www.efficasoft.com/mobileexpress/index.html

Organize (add, edit, delete, find) phone contacts.
Synchronized text messages automatically - NO NEED TO MANUALLY 'REFRESH'.
New text message arrival tray notification.
Requirements
Windows 2000, XP, 2003 with ActiveSync installed.
Windows Vista with latest version of Device Center installed.

Windows Mobile SMS Sync 2.0
Hello,
Windows Mobile SMS Sync did go commercial however the new 2.0 version includes a number of really intresting features that set it apart from other the freeware and other commercial applications available. One of the key new features is that you can sync up to our secure server and then restore your messages from our secure server to a new Windows Mobile device.
While it is no longer available as freeware, I would happily give some xda-developers readers free copies of the software in exchange for their feedback. Feedback from the sort of technical users that frequent these forums would be worth more to me than the $10 application fee which I am sure few of you would be willing to pay anyways - you are definitely not the target audience for this application.
If any of you are still looking for a solution to your text message backup needs, please reply here or email me at [email protected] and I will provide you a coupon code to download the application for free. In exchange, I just ask that you provide me with a somewhat detailed analysis of the application and your expierence.
Thank you,

Outlook / Office 2010 and ActiveSync / Mobile Center

Hello,
Has anyone managed to make Mobile Device Center to talk with outlook 2010? It doesn't see it as an active mail client... There are a few posts around the net, but only questions thus far.
Where;d you get a copy of office 2010 from to test this with anyway?

I found a copy over at piratebay. Its a technical preview
Oooh well you see Santa came early this year...
It was released on MSDN, wasn't it? Torrents were out about a week earlier than that...
[EDIT] What daddy_yankee1980 said, it's a technical preview. Surprisingly complete, to tell you the truth, very fast and lots of new features, but it won't talk to ActiveSync...
Here's the error I've been getting:
Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Office Outlook and set it as the default mail client.
Bummer... So, noone else? Am I the only one to have seen this?
Obviously not enough people have tried this

You're not alone! I have same issue with Office 2010 and Windows 7 Please let me know if you find any way to solve this!
Yea, I'm running 7.127 too, but I think the problem is with Outlook itself... they probably forgot to make it hook onto something...
I'm on the RC of Windows 7 x64 (7100) and have this issue. I really like Office 2010 so far though - it looks more grown up.
Hopefully there will be a fix for this sometime soon... don't really want to have to go back to Office 2007.

I'm having the same trouble with Device Manager and Outlook 2010 TP...
Here the same problem: Office / Outlook 2010 TP on Windows 7 x64 7100. I'll revert to Office 2007, and wait.
Ain't it a shame? I can't imagine how they missed this one....
Can't sync PIM - looking for solution
yeap. I have installed yesterday the Office 2010 TP and I have loved the new features especially in Outlook 2010. But I can't sync PIM data anymore too. I'm using Win7+WMDC 6.1.6965+WinMo 6.1. I don't wanna back to 2007 but if I can't find solution I will!
I have sended a e-mail to Microsoft Office 2010 Engineering Team in http://blogs.technet.com/office2010/contact.aspx asking about that ... let's wait!
Office 2010 + Windows 7 + WMDC - The Solution is here!
Works for me!
Go into Control Panel and remove the driver under Network Adapters
that appeared when my device was connected. Once removed.
Reboot Windows. Connect the device. Let Windows 7 reinstall WMDC from the download and it "slowly" install the drivers.
Done... everything works!
Maybe will be to reinstall Office 2010 too!

Um... you managed to sync your contacts/calendar with this procedure? Because this appears to just install the device, whereas the problem is with Office not being registered as a PIM...
I believe that the issue is WMDC doesnt currently support x64 Outlook 2010. I've seen a couple of reports that installing JUST the OL2k7 application (custom/advanced install deselect everything apart from OL2k7) over the top works as a workaround.
Yet to be able to test this as away from home....
I had to keep Outlook 2007 too, as 2010 technical preview doesn't have WMDC providers.
Also, the same happens with OneNote 2010, but there I had to uninstall OneNote 2010, reinstall ON 2007 and unpair/pair the smartphone to get OneNote mobile to sync again. Once I install ON 2010 to the working setup, it breaks again.
So, if you want to sync, don't install Outlook and ON 2010, keep 2007 .
O2010TP
64-bit doesn't work but x86 version does allow full sync on all apps - including Outlook.
Anyone have any problems sync'ing with OneNote 2010? I'm using the x86 version and the onenote option doesn't appear in the content sync settings menu anymore.
having the same problem ... don't want to roll back to the 2007 ... ^^

The mobile Outlook update only applies to clients connected to Exchange 2010?
Lame.
wait ... there will be updates for everyone else, right ?
I'm running Office 2010 beta and quite enjoy the conversation view setting. Makes the inbox much less cluttered puts consecutive mails nicely in proportion.
A problem however - When I try and set up my TP2 with ActiveSync it doesn't allow me to sync my mail and calender. Says that Outlook is not installed.
I suppose the default Activesync version isn't compatible with office 2010, so anyone know of some updates or tweaks?
Thank you very much
I am nearly sure you have a 64 bit system. try it on 32bit system and office 2010 will sync.

Correct, and yes, I'm using 64 bit on my computer. Office 2007 sync perfectly on the 64-bit. Oh well, for the mean time I'm "downgraded" again to 2007 until the final version comes out.
