I use cyanogenmod 4.1.11.1. Today my phone refused to boot, and dropping into the recovery console shows that it cant mount the card (8 gb). I wiped, popped the card in again and it said that card was blank or not recognized. I chose to format it, but that didn`t help. I popped in an older card (4 gb), and got the same issue again (blank, not recognized). I'm thinking this is an issue with the memory card slot. Just wondering if anyone`s come across this before?
yea my phone is acting up and i can't flash the stock rom cause my phone will not read the sd card, after a wipe my phone will not boot up at all now.
yeah it sounds like the slot and you can flash a rom from adb fyi
adb?
i ended up tearing another g1 apart and took the lower pcb board in the chin and attached it to mines, and that one worked so i flashed it using the other one. So i guess my bottom board is bad. its happen to a few of my friends but they had stock roms on theirs so when they brought it back to tmobile--they ended up getting new g1s sent to them and they had to send the old ones back.
I looked online and that bottom board is running around 150 for a new one, theres plenty of g1s with broken screens around for a little cheaper than that. Has anyone else had a new g1 sent to them? I heard its a very common problem with the g1s and the card slot issue.

I had recently bought a cingular 8525..... and i bought a scandisk 2gb micro SD card..... but when i try to push the card in it gets stuck and the card doesnt comes out..... i have to remove the battery and pull the card with the clipper...... but the dummy card goes in and comes out perfectly..... wht shall i do.... i have tried this with 2-3 brands micro SD cards
Same here. Althugh with a little fiddeling my Hermes recognised the Card. And as I haven't planned to remove it again any time soon I can live with that.
You have to be carefull when putting the card in. I had the same problem at the start, you have to put it in really straight and make sure you here a click. If you here a scrape, then it get corrupt.
Didn't want to make new thread, so I bumped...
I am having same problem. I tried to put the card in (2 gb sandisk micro SD) and now its stuck and not seen by the Phone. How did the first poster get his out? I looked under the battery, but I don't see an easy way to get to the card. Any help is much appreciated, since I cannot use my card yet...TIA!
ive experienced the same problem. seems like its a "breaking in" issue.
as you get used to putting it in and pulling it out it will ultimately just sink in. meaning, youd be able to click it in and click it out..
never had one problem with the 3 sandisk cards i use..
I did struggle the first time after taking the new Hermes out of the box but no problems since - since the first go I just do it really carefully, making sure it's absolutely straight.
SD cards are a nice, even shape but MicroSD have a funny shape to them - a degree out in insertion angle (oo-er, missus) and it seems you're stumped. Took me ages to get the thing out first time.
Thanks for the help, I was able to get it out with a very small flat screwdriver. It is very sensitive, and I make sure that I get the "click" before I push it all the way in. Thx.
tried taking out my sdhc earlier and seems like i have no problems anymore..
Guys,
Try using forum search. I posted a working solution to this issue here.

Micro SD card issues
I too had the same problem for 2 or 3 times, getting it in is the trick, very delicate.
The first time I inserted it, it didn't register and it wouldn't come out with a click, sort of had to pry it out delicately out of there, the second time, the device recognized it, taking it out it clicked but hesitated a bit, by the third time, no problem. Now it works exactly like it should.
The question is, is it the slot that gets broken-in or the card itself? I have another card on order, I'll know the answer to that soon, allthough I think it's the actual slot inside that assumes the shape it should or something, probably the pins-connectors inside that have to flex a couple of times.
Scary at first but it seems to fix itself.
God I love my phone, is it wrong to be so obsessed with it?
hi
i have my streak for a week, the 2nd day i got it i turned it off and went to the +/-vol + power screen to do a factory reset but i changed my mind and rebooted phone again, after that the 16GB card wasn't being detected anymore and even formating it didn't bring it to life again. In windows sometimes it showed up as a 30MB card but i couldn't even format it, some error about bad blocks.
So i used a 8GB card during the week and yesterday i bought a class 4 16GB card, it was working fine untill this morning when i tried to do update of the os, i went to the same screen but forgot to rename the file to update.pkg so i rebooted the phone again to rename it, but again when it came onto the os, same thing, it detects the card as blank but it can't format it... so i have now another broken sd card...
i did a factory reset while using the 8GB card so i dun think the problem is just cause of going to the black update.pkg thing screen...
anybody has had any 16GB faulty card?
what do u guys think? my streak hates 16GB cards and is faulty? or i am the proud owner of 2 faulty 16GB in a row (a class 2 and a class 4, both sandisk)?
My streak came with 16 gig card. Had no issues with it so far. I've put DJ STEVES Rom on as well.
btw, on both ocasions i had the phone connected to the usb cable and to the computer... could that be a cause?
maybe i'll just go buy another 16GB microsd card and play around with it to see if it happens again!
update: tested the card now with the program "active partition recovery" and it gives me an errors saying "bad signature in sector 0 on 86h" ... dunno what it means tho
ok, been trying a bunch of bad blocks recovery programs, mbr fix programs, etc, none works so i guess the card is unrecoverable and is really physically damaged...
just 2 questions before i decide if i buy a new card or send the phone back to shop (it'll hurt having to wait 2 or 3 weeks for a replacement streak)
i was only just using the cards inside the phone, and it even worked well as a usb storage device in windows when i connected the mobile on usb, only after i went to the recovery screen did this happened, (the 1st card failed after i went to the fastboot screen now that i remember correctly) do you think that any of these actions could have damaged the card?
and is it even possible for a normal streak to even damage the card beyond repair just by rebooting and trying to flash an update?
if that were the case, i guess loads of ppl would have same problem as me ...
other than that the mobile works flawlessly, hence my reluctance to send it back, plus the fact that it worked fine during this week with an 8GB card... but then again .. what are the odds of 2 cards failing one after the other in similar circunstances... sigh...

I feel your pain man. I just got mine yesterday from my local best buy. Within the first 6 hours it shut down randomly while idle. Had to connect it to a power supply and then reboot it to get it started again. On top of that, after the random shutdowns, the phone wouldn't recognize the sd card. It came up on error in the notifications. It gave the option to reformat it right in the streak but when you clicked on reformat...nothing happened. Could write to the card at all. No pictures, music...nothing. So I returned it the same day I bought it and exchanged it for another.
My replacement streak has been perfect (besides my noob experiment in flashing steve's froyo)!
I'm pretty sure it was a hardware issue. It sounds like you got a faulty streak as well. My advice would be to send it back...ask for expedited shipping or whatever it takes to get it back asap. These things are too expensive for them not to work as promised.
Good luck bro!
Try here http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ & see if you can reformat the cards
worth a try
I droped my EVO yesterday and the screen literally shattered worse then I have ever seen a phone shatter, so I called Assurion to see what needed to be done and by informed me that it would be $100 and there was a 2 week back order before I could get a new "refurbished" device. I than tried going to a few different Sprint Service Repair centers in the area and thy all told me that since the crack was more that a single 2" crack it was to be presumed physically damaged and I hadto go through Assurion. I tried 1 last place this morning and the tech was nice and generous enough to swap out the entire screen housing. I am however stuck with a device that is not recognizing my SD card. I have tried different memory cards, tried formatting the existing memory card and still nothing. I put he SD card in the computer and the computer recognized the SD card no problem. The tech used the speech that it might be the fact that I am rooted and running non stock software and that I might just have to reinstall he software or try a hard reset. I am hoping someone here has some advice from personal experience on how to get my problem resolved.
Ok turned out to be a weird problem that is now resolved. I went back onto Sprint and I think it might have just been loose contacts connecting the SD slot.

Glad to hear you got it fixed...
So I bought a 64 gb uhs-1/class 10 lexar branded sd card, the one that comes with the usb 3.0 reader. Used it on my s3 for a couple weeks before getting my Note, then put it in my Note the day I got it. It made me format it, which I did, and then copied all my photos music etc to it. No problems for a couple days, then out of the blue I got a message saying that the SD card that was currently inserted was either corrupt or blank. I pulled it and my pc said it was blank. Wtf. Formatted it on the pc, then on the phone again, and went to put some stuff on it. The first file transferred went on fine (from internal to external memory on the phone) then when I refreshed the folder the file was gone. Promptly went back to Wal-Mart and went to get it replaced. Didn't have my receipt but they said they could look it up, but when they went to the incompetent moron they call a manager couldn't find it. I said screw it and bought another one, walked about twenty feet away, opened it and swapped them out, turned around and returned it saying I don't want it anymore lol.
Went home, used it for almost the past week and now just last night the phone said that I incorrectly removed the card (to which I replied, "phone, I did nothing of the sort. I did not do so much as jar you around or anything of the like. I call your bull****, sir"). Went to pull it and push back in, nothing. Put my old 32 gb card in and it worked fine. Put the 64 gb card in my computer and nothing, it didn't even know there was a card there.
So has anyone else had problems like this with lexar cards? I'm pissed, and locally this is the only card of this size that I could find for under a hundred dollars....I am wondering if this is a common issue with them, and if anyone knows a place (local to Calgary preferably but obviously not many of you are from here lol) that I can get a good one for a reasonable price, and what brand is one you guys would suggest? I know SanDisk is crap. I would prefer a faster one but not if that means it will be less reliable. Thanks!

Here's when it happened:
We were going on a road trip so I shut the phone off, took out the SD card (64 gig Sandisk), then the sim card, put the SD card back in and closed up the phone. I did not turn the phone back on. Then put the sim card in my tablet so it would have data. That worked fine.
The next day, I want the sim card back in my phone, so I do the reverse. Boot up the phone and it does not see the SD card at all. I put the SD card in the tablet and the tablet sees it just fine. Back in the phone - no go. I try a couple reboots and nothing. Boot to TWRP, it doesn't see it.
I get home and dirty flash the rom (Ovrdrive). Still doesn't see the card. I try a couple other cards (32 and 64 gig sandisk) which work just fine in other devices and the computer and the phone either doesn't see the cards or it says they are corrupt. So I format a 32 gig card (I did it a couple times in both xfat and fat32), put it in the phone and the phone says it is corrupt and needs to be formatted. So I select format. The format box is immediately at 20% and then it crashes.
I tried using ES File Explorer on the phone to format it but still a no go. I re-flashed the kernel that I have been using for the last year, that didn't help either. I used contact cleaner spray and then even used a soft small paint brush to try and clean the contacts. Nothing.
I had not put any new apps or made any changes to the phone in over a month before this happened. So.... I think somehow the pins for the card somehow got damaged or just old and something just got bent or broken or tweeked. I have another V20 that got water damaged and I looked closely at the SD card pins and compared to the current phone. I can't see any difference.
I'm posting this in case anyone else has had this problem and 1. was able to resolve it or 2. replaced the sim reader and that fixed it. Sim readers on ebay are cheap, but they have to be soldered in. Something that small is beyond my skill level.
There is a thread for the G6 that talks about this same problem. No solution. Speculation about having the card reader replaced. One person did a complete factory reset twice and that didn't work. So I'm left to believe this is a hardware issue.
Cheers.
