T-Mobile (UK) and Generic Firmware? - Hero, G2 Touch General

Hello all,
Apart from the initial splash screen, what are the differences between the TMobile (UK) firmware and the Generic firmware? Are there any advatanges/disadvantages to each one?

It's pretty much the same apart from the Web and Walk icon and maybe some bookmarks.
Advantage: Use T-Mobile ROM and you get to keep your warranty.
Disadvantage: T-Mobile are a bit slow to release the updates

Does the Orange version of the TOUCH HD come Sim locked or not?
Is its software customised or not?
Is the Orange logo on the handset or not?
Yes I realise that is 3 questions
Hi,
I have purchased directly from Orange.
Yes it is sim locked on mine.
Software is not much different than default rom. All I saw was a shortcut (orange plus) on the software.
The logo is printed on the bottom of back cover only.
Also, messenger, internet sharing and even Connection setup tool is included in this rom.
In vodafone rom for Diamond, connection setup was remved but the phone was not locked to Voda.
So once unlocked, it is easy to pull network settings for the new sim card without necessarily trying to find the setup tool or updating the rom.

Orange Branding + Misc.

Hello,
i just switched from an Xperia X1 (which was quite disappointing) to the HD. I bought mine off of ebay, however it was originally with orange (im a uk resident). I then unlocked it to all networks (as i am currently on O2). The problems i have are the following:
- As i remember from my xperia, the phone automatically found my O2 data connection and configured itself. This however tells me that my carrier is not in its database.
- When the phone starts up it displays the orange logo, and since it is on orange, it does not have msn messenger.
Is there a way to get it back to the original settings, as if i bought it completely unbranded?
Thanks in advance.
Hard Reset?
Hi, would a hard reset not sort this out?
Hold volume up and volume down and press the power button (when the phone is off) Then confirm you want to reset.
Hope it works.
i browsed a bit on the forum and apparently i need to flash a new rom. which is the latest WWE out there? i found 1.19.831.0, but mine is 1.19.61.1, so it would lead me to believe i have a newer one.
any suggestions?

Mine's from Orange with MSN Messenger
Have they stopped it now?
Yea You just need to reflash the device, If you go through the wiki you will find the latest stock rom and if your feeling adventurous read into hard spl and some of the custom roms on this site.

Who did you use to unlock it (£) ?
My Orange branded HD came with Messenger installed too.
The only thing i can see that it was missing was google maps.

UK Vodafone firmware update - JM3 / JM4 - Unwanted apps/issues

Hi all,
I am running the stock UK Vodafone firmware and this morning updated to the latest firmware through Kies.
With this firmware update Vodafone have installed a number of branded applications leading through to their own mobile portals, as well as a couple of trial games.
Some initial issues I have observed are below:
360 Shop - doesnt work
360 Updates - 1 way install of Vodaphone services to the phone, no uninstall option.
Music shop - Fails to connect to the service (later found it does connect but didnt over wifi when I tried it.
Tetris trial & Monopoly trial - Who would want a trial permanently installed on their device?
Web - just another link to the web browser only with the Vodafone 360 login, point exactly?
Duplicated applications in the application drawer.
Note: These applications cannot be installed using the standard package installer. There is an application mentioned on the Voda forums which apparently can remove them http://forum.sdx-dev...34736/#msg34736
This thread is to inform the community about this update, and to call out to anyone running this firmware to voice your opinion on the Vodafone forums and support channels.
This happened to the HTC Desire around a month ago, the community pushed back and Vodafone relented by releasing another update without the additional software.
same old vodafone, they've been pulling this rubbish since the 1st colour phones came out. I've avoided them whenever I can. They know no-one likes the poorly designed interfaces, ugly colour schemes replacing fine designs. Yet because they make money from it they persist.
I half expected that it would come at some point but I hoped they would have learnt from the kickback they got from HTC owners. I guess not.
I tried out their 'Music Shop' app to see if it was any good. It was so badly designed that ended up with an unwanted purchase after about a minute of exploring. I clicked on what looked to be an advert and it started downloading, no purchase confirmation. Terrible.
We had a good laugh about the 14 piece Tetris and 1 circuit round the board Monopoly trials as well.
I know I could mess around with it and debrand, install custom roms etc. But for someone waiting patiently for Froyo from Vodafone, this is a bit of a kick in the teeth.
My SGS is from Vodafone, and last week, when I finally got Keis working, I updated to JM1. I checked again today and there are no other udates available, so I hope that this means that Keis is seeing my phone as a non-branded unit, although it is sim-locked to Vodafone.
Does anyone have any thoughts or definate ideas on this?
got my sgs last week and im assuming that this is the firmware it was sent with because i had all that crap ... and also wifi seemed to hang up at "retrieving IP Address" (or something along those lines)
.. voda branding is horrible ... laggy splash screen .. i've flashed it now
For anyone looking to support this cause, here is a link to the main thread on the Vodafone forum
I received my new Galaxy S from Vodafone about a week ago and it had all that stuff preinstalled. Obviously I flashed it with Odin on receiving it, and will do the same when Froyo is released.
I really can't be bothered with Vodafone branding stuff, you want to see how they messed up the Touch Pro 2. Black letters on a dark red background so you couldn't even see how many new mails etc you got properly :sigh:

Heh yeah I flashed my Galaxy S within 1 day of receiving it, Why won't Vodafone understand that customers don't want the s**t Vodafone branding. I have always flashed my mobile's firmware to get rid of the c**p that Vodafone slap on it and I will continue to do so until they stop raping phones with their stupid and slow firmwares! (fat chance of that right lol)
Feckers.
I'll add my tuppence worth. Hopefully enough SGS owners with Voda will do the same and they'll be forced to release an update that removes this tripe, just as they did for the HTC Desire...
The threads have been merged, new topic can be found here.
I received an email from Vodafone last night asking for some details about my handset so they could investigate it. Not entirely sure what thats about.

According to their eforum team they had a batch of non-branded phones when they first started selling them, presumably because their firmware wasn't going to be ready at launch. I got one, and it's not sim-locked either. Are you sure yours is? I've tried mine with VF, O2 and T-Mobile sims and they all work fine.
If you go into settings, about phone, and check out build number/baseband version, that should have XX in the middle. I think the branded ones have e.g. VOD instead.
I'm in communication with the eforum team and they are investigating my case and many others.
The have said that they are only interested in the handsets which were previously unbranded, which have become branded by this recent update which mine was.
I don't know what my previous build number was, but my current one is ECLAIR.I9000BUJM4

Thanks for the info, my baseband version since I upgraded is i9000XXJM1, so hopefully if I'm careful, I can keep away from the dreaded Voda-bloat.
Somewhere along the line, my phone has crossed over to the dark side.
I think they are identifying those who have been wrongly branded and are going to add them to a special deployment list. Those who were branded already might be another story.
My phone was build number eclair.i9000xxjf3 and now after the recent 2.1update 1 is now eclair.i9000bujm4. Was unbranded now totally branded with vodaphone bloatware.
The updates by kies need to have an update list with them so we know what has changed. BUt why would vodaphone want us to know they are including the bloatware.
I think they are trying to brand all those unbraded vodaphone phones that escaped into the wild.
I got mine in an upgrade from vodaphone online shop at the begining of august.
The more recent phones seem to be already branded.
Fingers crossed for froyo day !!

New rom for Vodafone UK

New rom for Vodafone UK devices from HTC Enjoy
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=314&act=sd&cat=2
Does this ROM contain all the apps supplied when buying the phone from Vodafone, like MS Office, Outlook etc?
Also any idea if it voids the Vodafone warranty - just seems strange how its not on the Vodafone website.
Thanks Simon
Brilliant - any idea what functionality this adds? Or is it just a radio update?
I'm wondering if someone can upload the rom somewhere.
Thanks a lot
I installed this ROM and lower buttons stopped working. I'm also not able to make calls.

[Q] How to Check Omnia Branding

I ordered my Samsung Omnia 7 from Amazon (Sold by FGS Trading).
Amazon said "unlocked GSM mobile phone" and it is an unlocked GSM mobile phone. I made the false assumption that it would also be unbranded. Tbh, there's no sign of branding anywhere other than that it says T-Mobile upon booting.
I know it's T-Mobile branded, but I read people referring to their branding per country too (ex. T-Mobile Germany). Does the country also affect anything or just the general T-Mobile branding? How can I check what branding I have?
AFAIK, the US doesn't have the Samsung Omnia 7, but the Samsung Focus. Under that logic, I shouldn't have the T-Mobile US branding, even though I ordered it from the US.
If it says T-Mobile on the back underneath the Samsung Logo and your phone was by default in English and not German then you most likely have a T-Mobile UK device.
It's ridiculously easy to debrand though.
Point me to the debranding instructions please UK T-Mobile Omnia 7, stuck on the 7004 software, doesn't fall for the disconnect while checking for update routine - lost count of how many tries I have had
I also bought an unlocked t-mobile branded phone. It was simple enough to debrand by loading an updated firmware from samfimware.com
But, an easier option would be for you to look at
http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/04/04/update-your-windows-phone-7-device-in-one-click/
Debranding the phone doesn't guarantee that you'll get NoDo immediately - it certainly didn't for me, and I had to use the Hungarian Hack to get my NoDo.
The link above should be easier for you.

There is no physical branding on it. It's just the T-Mobile logo on boot.
But now that you mention it, I think the phone was in German when I first got it! Thanks for the info.
Thanks, I'll give it a go - phone absolutely refuses the trick going around - have tried probably 40 times:-(

Unfortunately, this was a short term solution. It looks like Microsoft has stepped in and forced the removal of the third party update tool.
I guess I was wrong, mine is T-Mo Hungary branded.
Here's how to check:
Step 1: Get a registry editor app. I suggest WP7 Root Tools by Heathcliff74 (available in the WP7 dev forum).
Step 2: Go to: Local Machine\System\Platform\DeviceTargetInfo
Step 3: check the value data of "MobileOperator". Mine says TMO-HU.
I think you can work out the region by looking at the CSC version number. To get to this, dial *#1234# in diagnosis menu. This way you don't need a developer unlocked phone.
