Does the Orange version of the TOUCH HD come Sim locked or not?
Is its software customised or not?
Is the Orange logo on the handset or not?
Yes I realise that is 3 questions
Hi,
I have purchased directly from Orange.
Yes it is sim locked on mine.
Software is not much different than default rom. All I saw was a shortcut (orange plus) on the software.
The logo is printed on the bottom of back cover only.
Also, messenger, internet sharing and even Connection setup tool is included in this rom.
In vodafone rom for Diamond, connection setup was remved but the phone was not locked to Voda.
So once unlocked, it is easy to pull network settings for the new sim card without necessarily trying to find the setup tool or updating the rom.

My mda pro is locked, can I still use it as pocket pc ??
whenever I start it without sim it only display T-mobile startup logo & dont go forward?
Tell me if its normal ? how can I use it as pda ??
thanks in advance for help.
Locked phones are in 99% of the cases stolen phones.
We don't do stolen phones here..
The behaviour you describe is NOT normal with the Qtek ROM.
Nor with the O2 ROM, I think.
You could perhaps reflash to a different ROM?

Thanks for your reply, sorry offence not meant but plz keep your stupid comments with yourself.
just now I hard-reset & yes it solved the problem...
However just to clear things, I bought this phone very cheap from uk locked to T-mobile with the hope that its unlocker tool will be available soon
It is definately not normal. From whom did you buy this phone from? You probably want to go back to the store and have it checked. Have you tried a hard/cold reset?
You said that it will not run without a sim, so have it ever run with a sim (t-mobile or not)? If it did run before, I rest my case. If not, the phone definately not behaving.

I feel that my comment was rightfully made.
This forum does not like stolen goods, and we do make others aware.
As for the term "Locked", I have seen this used on both "Subscriber Locked" and "Barred/Banned" phones.
You have a "Locked" phone that you wish to use without a SIM card.
I then assumed that you had a stolen device.
How ever, I still gave a good answer to your question:

Yes, I am aware of this. How ever, I do believe that T-Mobile unlocks the phones for a fee?

As I said; I have given you my best answer; try a different ROM.
My Qtek ROM has no problems letting me boot without a SIM card.
I allso believe that the O2 ROM will let you do this.
With this knowledge in hand, I suspect that the T-Mobile ROM could have some software restriction that disables the use of the device without a SIM card.
The way to solve the problem would then be to flash the device with a different ROM.
You could alternatively try to reflash with a newer T-Mobile ROM.

So, the next time..
Please think twice before you refer to an answer as "stupid comment"?[/url]
If I start my O2 Exec without a SIM in it, I get a password entry box for the phone similar to the default one for my password-protected SIM, and there's a message saying that only emergency calls can be made ... blah blah..., but I can cancel this password screen and get to the Today screen and use the machine as normal. I think I press the Windows key on the keyboard to bring up the Start menu, from where I can choose the Today screen.
If your machine is locked by T-mobile in a way that means you can't get past a block screen then I'd say this is T-mobile protecting their investment if you don't have a valid SIM card.
Assuming you've tried a hard-reset already without success, you've got two options, I think:
- buy a PAYG SIM from T-mobile just to fool the machine
- flash the ROM to that of another provider (such as O2 UK) who doesn't impose a similar lock
Without knowing more about the T-mobile lock you're seeing it's hard to say more. I know that my O2 phone isn't locked permanently though.
Hope this helps.

Thus confirming my believes.
Thank you!
2 things :
- 1 : if tou want to unlock our MDA PRo call T-Mobile, pay £15, wait few days and you will have the code.
- 2 : normally there is no problem to use your Mda Pro as a PPC even if it is simlocked to T-Mobile. Just switch Off the telephone application. Try to put any simcard in, it does not matter anyway. If you're stuck with the boot screen your problem may be linked to a rom problem. Nothing to do with the simlock.
My MDA Pro SIM locked T-Mobile Germany works fine without any SIM card inserted.
Or to simplify get a t-mobile paygo sim from the uk.

Orange ROMs lock more than the basic phone functions. I unlocked my Tytn II's SIM (Orange France) and I can now make and receive calls with another provider's SIM card. Several orther functions, however, remain lock because descending lists offer only Orange as a choice. I suppose one has to get rid of the Orange ROM and use either the official HTC one or one of the bette cooked ROM.

Hello,
i just switched from an Xperia X1 (which was quite disappointing) to the HD. I bought mine off of ebay, however it was originally with orange (im a uk resident). I then unlocked it to all networks (as i am currently on O2). The problems i have are the following:
- As i remember from my xperia, the phone automatically found my O2 data connection and configured itself. This however tells me that my carrier is not in its database.
- When the phone starts up it displays the orange logo, and since it is on orange, it does not have msn messenger.
Is there a way to get it back to the original settings, as if i bought it completely unbranded?
Thanks in advance.
Hard Reset?
Hi, would a hard reset not sort this out?
Hold volume up and volume down and press the power button (when the phone is off) Then confirm you want to reset.
Hope it works.
i browsed a bit on the forum and apparently i need to flash a new rom. which is the latest WWE out there? i found 1.19.831.0, but mine is 1.19.61.1, so it would lead me to believe i have a newer one.
any suggestions?

Mine's from Orange with MSN Messenger
Have they stopped it now?
Yea You just need to reflash the device, If you go through the wiki you will find the latest stock rom and if your feeling adventurous read into hard spl and some of the custom roms on this site.

Who did you use to unlock it (£) ?
My Orange branded HD came with Messenger installed too.
The only thing i can see that it was missing was google maps.
Anyone using x10 with 3G network in the UK here?
Have you guys unlocked/rooted the phone? I am still waiting for my phone to come at any moment from now.
No one replies?
Btw, what does debranding mean? Does it mean unlokc?
Can't answer your first question.. but yes to your second.. it free's up the phone to get SE updates directly too.. and not via your operator.

I ordered my X10 from 3G UK. I think it would be 90% locked. Just don't know if anyone uses the same network as me.
The nice thing is 3G has skype installed.
@wildcolor
Currently there is no rooting for the X10 although it is being worked on so may be possible soon.
I believe you can buy an unlock code from various suppliers so you should be able to unlock it which will allow you to use another Networks Sim card in your X10.
Debranding does not mean unlocking at all it will change your phones identity to a generic number which will help get rid of what ever customisations your Operator has added and returns it to just the SE firmware. It also should mean you are able to get the new firmware faster when SE release it as you don't need to wait for your Operator to approve it.

Debranding removes operater junk they include on top of the standard SE stuff released with the phone, like icons and wallpapers etc.
Unlocking allows you to put any sim in the phone, this is a different to debranding.

Thanks a lot Marc. That's a very clear answer.
With an unlocked 3 phone in the UK, I guess we can use it with any sim-card (including 3 sim card). But with another unlocked phone that is not originally from 3, we will NOT be able to use 3 sim card, right?

So you mean, they are independent, right? I can do either of them without worrying about they would affect each other?
Hi guys.
Really sorry about this but I am at the end of my tether with this!
I run my own IT support company and one of the things I do most is Blackberry and iPhone Exchange email syncing. While both of those work brilliantly, I have had users having loads of issues getting their Windows Mobile devices working easily. Luckliy only one or 2 have these devices but more are asking....
I resorted to retiring my Bold 9000 and got a brand new sealed HD2 on the UK T-Mobile network today. First thing I did was get a sim unlock code and that went through first time (using my working o2 SIM from my BB). However, I couldn't make calls so after I spoke to o2 I got in to the Phone, Network settings and with the Network selection on auto, the preferred networks list was blank. Clicking the preferred networks button brings up the list of preferred networks, ticked o2 - UK and ok'd it. Goes back to main network screen and still blank. Clicking Find Network then brings up cannot register on selected network.
Changing automatic network selection to manual, selecting )2 - UK and ok'ing that brings up the same 'cannot register on selected network error. So, after coming here, I stuck on the HSPL 1.42, then upgraded to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.48.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.28.50.07U_2.05.51.05_2_Ship
That went on fine and after wiping to factory to make sure I sent through the set up. Same errors and still can't make receive calls.
Stuck on the 2.08 hspl for the hell of it then upgraded to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship
Guess what? Exact same problems! I spoke to o2 support and they were pretty useless. Explained that it was sim unlocked and on a generic firmware. They said that T-Mobile do something weird with the HTC and I should try calling HTC tech support, who are now closed...... I am not sure HTC will be of any help anyway as I can't exactly go telling them I have stuck on the HSPL and a non-approved firmware for what was the originall carrier!
Help please anybody?? I have googled and googled but haven't found anyone with the same problem, I might be being blind. BTW, what I guess is the antenna icon has an exclamation next to it
Thanks,
Nick
Quick update. Housemate got back so I nicked the Vodafone UK sim from his iPhone and stuck that in the HD2. Same problem, won't register on Vodafone either. Anyone?
Got annoyed. changed the SPL back to the standard 1.42. Installed the latest T-Mobile official firmware. Same problems. Do I have the only HD2 ever to be doing this? . I don't have a T-Mobile sim to hand and the nearest store is miles away sadly.
Does your phone app not work at all ?
How do you know unlock code worked ? so far every sim you tried has failed.
Where did you get the unlocking code from ?
How did you use it ? meaning how did you input it ?
Verdict so far, if a t-mobile sim card works then unlock was a fail !
Ok referring to your network selection, for the UK, you should have it set to Automatic, it will then use the network associated with your sim.
referring to your call problem, does the phone still work with the original t-mobile sim?
if so it sounds like your unlock code didnt work.
if your phone no longer works with the original t-mobile, I should think something has gone wrong with the radio software you have installed on the phone. Try going back to the stock htc/radio rom. If that doesnt work then the phone probably needs to go back to t-mobile for repair, at this point you tell them "it just stopped working"
have you tried to run the connection setup wizard?
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup
if there isn't one, connectionsetup is available as a cab.
Hi guys. It was a brand neww, sealed box HD2, but from T-Mobile. No SIM with it at all or I would have been trying that too of course .
Regarding how I unlocked it. I paid an ebay seller to give me an unlock code. When I fist put on 02 SIM in the phone it wafffled on about being network locked basically and had a field to enter the unlock code. Entered the code given to me via the Ebay unlocker and never got that message again on the screen. Is that wrong somehow?
Manual network, auto network, selecting carrier etc all of them make no difference. I am off out now but have found a local store with PAYG T-Mobile sims in stock so will grab 1 later today and see what happens then.
Will update/bore you all later!
Cheers,
Nick
Right, case closed. I got the T-Mobile sim and stuck it in. Showed up with T-Mobile on the scren and a good strength signal. Tried to make a call, dropped back to the home screen almost straight away. I had full data access though. Spoke to T-Mobile who informed me that my brand new, sealed box HD2 was blacklisted and I could do nothing with it!
Vodafone and O2 just flat out don't let you register the handset on their network if is it blacklisted it would seem.
Contacted the seller and he has arranged a refund, but the refund is showing as 'pending' so I am not going to return the phone until I see it physically in my account.
I have to be honest and say that this is actually a good thing as despite HTC doing all they can to make the Win 6.5 on there look less dog-like, the overall UI is still pretty awful. Now,this phone with Android 2.1 on it might be a dfferent matter! Back on my Bold 9000 for now......
Cheers,
Nick.
I am sorry to hear about that, looks like to you got hit by some sort of scam, probably resealed a second hand or refurbished unit into an original box and sold it as new.
regarding the UI of the htc devices, I am not really sure why you think this, htc hd2 uses htc sense which is the same ui as on the android htc phones. The only windows mobile thing you should really see is the start menu which has been praised as being a very good replacement for the old start menu. even all the settings windows are run through the htc sense ui so i am really not sure what you are complaining about :S
If you dislike the top bar/bottom soft buttons, there have been a lot of modifications to these in more recent hd2 roms, maybe you should to take a look at the roms section to see some pics.
