I have two identical balckstone, loaded with energy WM 6.5
Under the same identical conditions one of them can get GPS signal (I am using Garmin XT and I am in Bali, Indonesia)
The other one cannot link the GOS signal. I have tried many applications like
- chartcross GPS test
- HTC GPSTool
- QuickGPS
Garmin appl says GPS is OFF
The testing software say cannot link the GPS
It seems that there is a hardware faulty, but before I confirm that, can somebody suggest other good GPS tools, so I further my testings?
Thanks
Saulo
my both Blackstones Touch HD are equipped as follows:
- OS version 5.2.23016
- Windows Mobile 6.5
- Energy ROM
on the faulty phone, none of the GPS default tools can link the GPS
Thanks and waiting for suggestions....

Try to install a new Radio ROM
Related
I'm starting to wonder about the X7501 - it's turning into hard work and the surprises are becoming a little (a lot) annoying.
The flaky Microdrive was the first surprise - still waiting on HTC (who have been responding to emails) to come up with a viable solution.
Now, I've just learnt from Tom Tom that my new X7501 will not run TomTom unless it is running the ROM that already has TomTom loaded:
Please note that only the Advantage X7500 running Windows Mobile 6 is compatible with Navigator 6. This PDA comes preinstalled with a special version of the Navigator 6 software on its Rom memory. Unless your HTC Advantage X7501 comes preinstalled with a special version of Navigator 6 it is not compatible with the software.
Perhaps I'm being a little ambitious, but I'd like the X7501 to use the TomTom software and maps loaded on the X7501 - not downloaded as you go. I'm happy to buy these (for Australia) from TomTom.
Do I box it up and return it or is there an alternative GPS/on board maps solution possible to bring this puppy back into the serious category?
Thanks
Bart
i dont see why you shouldnt be able to install tom tom and run it ... afterall it is a windows mobile program
have you tried?
I agree - it's only an app - so why do TomTom say it'll only work on a machine with the software preloaded?
BTW, Can't find a copy of TomTom 6 to try. Downloading the update from the site doesn't help. There's nothing on my HTC CD that may help.
works on Ameo
I manageded to get Navigator 5 working on the Ameo with WM6, can't see why you couldn't. TomToms tech support is very bad so don't take thier word for anything.
i have x7501 an TomTom 6 works great. pm me with you email an i can send you the cab file that you need.
pre-installed according to tomtom?
Bollocks.
Comes on the fricking CD to be added manually.
works fine as well, as does TT5 and Copilot 6 (apart from not natively being VGA, but seems to work for me anyway)
Maybe they mean the version of TomTom that is bundled on the CD?
When I got my x7500, it came with a bundled tomtom, sprite backup and a gprs monitor .. none of these work however if I'm using a custom ROM.
Downloading fresh, unrestricted versions of each however work fine .. looks like the cabs are rom specific
I have x7501 and x7500. i tried installing the cd that comes with x7500 and it doesnt work with x7501. it will tell you it is not the correct device. i have ttn 6 cab that works. pm me ...

Really? Damn...
I had to use SPB GPRS Monitor and 'find' a key
Oh well .. nevermind, I don't use TomTom that much as I dont have a car yet and I've jst got an unlimited data plan, so I dont really need the gPRS monitor anymore. Thanks for the input though .. can I ask which ROM you're using?
Hi Folks,
I was wondering a while ago if there would be a way to use the internal FM-radio for TMC purposes in TomTom which is pre-installed on the Cruise.
After a bit of searching on the web, i found a small program called DecoRDS, made by J.R. Pueyo (big credits to him!)
Now, i installed this on my Cruise with TomTom6 and initially it didn't work.
So, here are my settings on which the tool works and seems to work (haven't established a full working setting just yet):
Code:
1. Install both files provided from the link on your device. NOT MEMORYCARD
2. Run DecoRDS
3. go to Input, Port, and set it to COM4
4. go to Input, 9.600 bps and set it to 57.600 bps
5. Press OPEN, which will start the RDS tuner
6. go to Input, CONTROL, and select manual. Now you can search the frequencies for the RDS signal.
(optional: 7. enter 98,6 since it's Radio 1 with ANWB TMC for Netherlands)
Now, this SHOULD work, but i haven't figured it out completely yet, since it doesn't work in TomTom yet.
Anybody interested in helping me find out?
Here's the rapidshare: http://rs13.rapidshare.com/files/59746182/DecoRDS_Netherlands_beta.zip
Don't you need the wired earphones attached for the radio to receive any signals?
most certanly you do,
or at least a spliter (htc usb to audio usb and charge)
Great discovey,
can you post a link to the program's webpage to keep informed on future releases ?
sorry i can't help test it
My cruise is in service, and in romania there isn't any station with tmc
I searched so long for an application like this!!! Is it only working for NL users? Can it also work with iGO8?
thanks
hompage is www.lacasadelgps.com but i can't find any information about the software
a lot of information here
it looks like it is possible to have TMC on normal PDAs. even more it is possible to have TomTom use the TMC data.
After reading the forum I see that it is possible to use TMC in some countries.
This due to the fact that you need "translation tables". these tables "translate" the name of the road (say A12) to map coordinates in TT. It looks these tables are only available for Spain and Italy at the moment.
... and .de and .nl

DecoRDS's purpose is to decode RDS data received by a GPS-TMC receiver. It decodes the NMEA wrapping, maps the TMC location code to a geographical position using location tables then it send the information to Tomtom.
It does not work as far as I know with HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris internal radio.
You might be right, as i can't seem to get any frequency with a working RDS signal. I have the frequency, but the program doesn't seem to use the internal radio... Bummer. Wonder if it could, only problem is, i don't have any knowledge of programming...

58 euro just for tmc? .. pfft.. i think a better solution is than the tomtom plus service

Sure, 40 Euro per year (plus downloading fees) and only working with TomTom.
Great.

It does work with most TMC capable navigation softwares which does not include TomTom (since it does not support TMC)
Sascha
Not true
TT is able to use TMC. If TT7 has the subroutines to use it I do not know. TT is using the same programmingcode for all their devices. They sell their own TMC receiver. http://www.tomtom.com/products/accessories/accessory.php?ID=510&Product=500&Category=0

Sorry, but this simply isn't true.
TomTom Go devices are TMC ready but Linux based.
TomTom Naviator isn't TMC ready and Microsoft Windows Mobile based.
Both versions have strictly nothing common (except GUI).

I can't find any TMC signal with this configuration (with italian tables).
Hi All,
I am a stable user that utilizes the device for all of available application's:
E-Mail, Web Browsing, Skype and so on.
After installing the latest rom's I am having a problem using the device to one
of its more important uses and that is GPS.
I am using iGo 2006 (licensed) and I am unable to make it work on any of the new rom's.
My Question is if there is any way to channel the forces of this monster called XDA-Developers and solve the issue so annoyingly painful to me.
If there is another application that any one uses that has Israel maps working
as it should I would love to hear about it.
Thank you all in advance,
Itay
I don't know how legal this is, but look for a file called DiamondiGO6PSWisxda.rar and follow the instructions there, I have iGO2006 runing on WM6.1
gps not working here with the last m-amine rom
iGO 2006 works on official WM 6.1 WWE - you just have to disable HTC Home plugin.
I have latest Swtos 0.96 ROM (WM6.1 with latest radio) flashed to my polaris, and both IGO 8 and IGO 2006 work well on my device without any tricks.
hello,
since yesterday, I'm trying cmonex's rom with phone(no voice) and gps working but I need an application to test the gps and I don't have one.
I have tried with Live Search but it doesnt seem good and it needs internet for downloading card, not good !
I have heard about igo but i have also heard that it was too heavy for the shift. Is it too heavy?
I really want a gps software to test it in BELGIUM (i know that there are gps apps in US in eval period but I can t use it here).
even if you have a non-free app, i'm intersting in your epxerience and price of it (in europe if possible)
thanks all !

I am using Winodws Live! Search. It is cool. I also have Franson GPSGate (both PC and PPC) installed. On the Windows Vista side I installed Microsoft Streets. Franson GPSGate let me use GPS on Vista side, of course.

Could you help me a bit? I have no idea how to launch GPS in my Shift. I did everything that was on a film at Modaco. My shift is now liberated, but i don't know how i can set the gps port in Igo for example.
I have GPSGATE wm version and GPSGATE windows vista version installed on my shift and configurated both for activesync and IGO PC version works very very good.
igo8 works just great on my FS N520 wm5 device (which is only 312MHz).So, i suppose it will work fine on shift. It's perfect for europe - I have travelled to many european countries with it.But just one question: where will you install the program AND the maps, since wm side of shift doesn't read the sd card???
hehe ;-) you cannot install the maps. (as workaround you can move the maps to windows XP/Vista side, make this folder visible for network access and mount it with scecial tools on windows mobile side. But this is not more then a workaround, you must let running windows XP/Vista all the time too.. Not a really good solution...
the shift is a..... mistake... ;-)
there is IGO8 PC version that run in vista side very well

Plenty of threads already exist on Garmin XT. I suggest you ask your query in one of these or Miri thread. No need to create a new thread for every query.
I've listed below a few Garmin threads I found using the 'search' function in the apps, software & themes forum:

Rick
If you think it is not working because there is no activity in the satelites then just run quickgps, go to an open area and go to the map view of garmin. Garmin doesnt support view of the satelite activity but does connect perfectly with them. If you cant see your location in the map view then that might be a problem. Also
-Change your radio version with the appropriate rilphone
-try google maps with gps and see if it locks.
Cheers.
