Hi Folks,
I was wondering a while ago if there would be a way to use the internal FM-radio for TMC purposes in TomTom which is pre-installed on the Cruise.
After a bit of searching on the web, i found a small program called DecoRDS, made by J.R. Pueyo (big credits to him!)
Now, i installed this on my Cruise with TomTom6 and initially it didn't work.
So, here are my settings on which the tool works and seems to work (haven't established a full working setting just yet):
Code:
1. Install both files provided from the link on your device. NOT MEMORYCARD
2. Run DecoRDS
3. go to Input, Port, and set it to COM4
4. go to Input, 9.600 bps and set it to 57.600 bps
5. Press OPEN, which will start the RDS tuner
6. go to Input, CONTROL, and select manual. Now you can search the frequencies for the RDS signal.
(optional: 7. enter 98,6 since it's Radio 1 with ANWB TMC for Netherlands)
Now, this SHOULD work, but i haven't figured it out completely yet, since it doesn't work in TomTom yet.
Anybody interested in helping me find out?
Here's the rapidshare: http://rs13.rapidshare.com/files/59746182/DecoRDS_Netherlands_beta.zip
Don't you need the wired earphones attached for the radio to receive any signals?
most certanly you do,
or at least a spliter (htc usb to audio usb and charge)
Great discovey,
can you post a link to the program's webpage to keep informed on future releases ?
sorry i can't help test it
My cruise is in service, and in romania there isn't any station with tmc
I searched so long for an application like this!!! Is it only working for NL users? Can it also work with iGO8?
thanks
hompage is www.lacasadelgps.com but i can't find any information about the software
a lot of information here
it looks like it is possible to have TMC on normal PDAs. even more it is possible to have TomTom use the TMC data.
After reading the forum I see that it is possible to use TMC in some countries.
This due to the fact that you need "translation tables". these tables "translate" the name of the road (say A12) to map coordinates in TT. It looks these tables are only available for Spain and Italy at the moment.
... and .de and .nl

DecoRDS's purpose is to decode RDS data received by a GPS-TMC receiver. It decodes the NMEA wrapping, maps the TMC location code to a geographical position using location tables then it send the information to Tomtom.
It does not work as far as I know with HTC Touch Cruise/Polaris internal radio.
You might be right, as i can't seem to get any frequency with a working RDS signal. I have the frequency, but the program doesn't seem to use the internal radio... Bummer. Wonder if it could, only problem is, i don't have any knowledge of programming...

Sure, 40 Euro per year (plus downloading fees) and only working with TomTom.
Great.

Not true
TT is able to use TMC. If TT7 has the subroutines to use it I do not know. TT is using the same programmingcode for all their devices. They sell their own TMC receiver. http://www.tomtom.com/products/accessories/accessory.php?ID=510&Product=500&Category=0

Sorry, but this simply isn't true.
TomTom Go devices are TMC ready but Linux based.
TomTom Naviator isn't TMC ready and Microsoft Windows Mobile based.
Both versions have strictly nothing common (except GUI).

Hi all mates!
I'd like to open a thread to discuss about this piece of software!
I have to buy one among tomtom3, destinator 3 and Navigator 4 so I think it's good to open this thread to share any comments and infos and any other thoughts concerning theese sat-nav programs!
Cya!!!
Forget Destinator for a start. We have a review of the previous version of Navigon here and TomTom3 here.
I have myself check out different navigation systems and have concluded that Navigon Mobile Navigator 4 is the most sophisticated one. But I must concede, it is expensive, they had delays in bringing the software to market, they have already made an upgrade available (presumably there were issues with the new software), and they have not managed to put the demo on their website for about the last 3 months. In addition, I have not heared about bluetooth receiver compatibility. It seems that not everything is going smoothly. By the way, the company producing this software was just taken over.
There is also a POI handler available (in English) at: http://www.navigating.de
Check out this German site for a review (in German): http://www.pocket.at/navigation/navivergleich.htm
But I still believe it is the most sophisticated navigation system available for PPC, I am just wondering whether something simpler would do for me.

Destinator has a great deal of issues and it's latest version is no match for any of your other options, Consider CoPilot, TomTom or Navigon as your top three choices. Others worth considering are Deluo Routis, also sold as Socket MyNavigator and Intellinav amongst others.
I have found that navigon doesn't support custom POIs! is that right?
Another thing: a little very pleased feature in destinator is the possibility to read the phone number of certain POI like restaurant, bar, ecc; so the question is: has any of the other competitors the ability to do this?
I believe that with the POI handler Navigon does support custom POIs. Check the link I indicated above, it is in English.
Ok, that's right for the POIs, but for what concern telephone number?
Does anyone knows something?
no one?
I am currently using the Navigon older software 1.5 which also has RDS-TMC together with my MDAII .The TMC function is really useful and works in Germany, Belgium , UK - all these countries I have personally tested and have been rerouted and saved several times. The POI included in Navigon also work well some are already allocated but you can download more also some from POI handler and you this service you have to pay a yearly fee. ( for speed camera etc)
The advantages of Navigon are that you get the whole of Europe and the TMC function and no other extra costs except upgrades. Up to now I am very happy especially now since I also have a official carkit for the MDA II. I laugh at all my friends with thier expensive navi systems in their cars. Navigon , Tom tom etc are really not expensive if you compare them with car built in systems
I looked at Tom Tom but found the maps more clearer ( for myself ) Tom Tom uses teleAlas while the Navigon uses Navitech . The older software Navigon did not show your speed but the new one Navigon 4 does. Tom Tom also does have TMC but this needs to be downloaded via GPRS and adds to the cost.
Today ( WooHoo !!! ) I have recieved my software & hardware upgrade to Navigon|4 and as I am travelling these weeks and I will install it in the next few weeks.
I only opted for the upgrade as I can now use the bluetooth GPS reciever when I go cycling or walking.
Funny, when I was making my choice it was between Alturion & Navigon. I chose Navigon as all the right hardware was ready for The MDA II. I have never regreted buying navi software.
Thx rafiki, and remember: I'd like to read here ur thoughts about this navi software! Of course, take it easy, do it when u can! I'll appreciate it very much!
Any news about extracting\reading phone numbers and any other type of infos from the electronic maps? :?:
WooHoo !!!!
A really good piece of software! I installed the navigon 4 yesterday and used all day today. Boy am i happy.
I got:-
Bluetooth ( modular with TMC)
I can see my Speed, atlitude, got a compass , est time of arrival , duration, inclication of road,
3D or bird eye view
perfect sound with my MDA II carkit with mute ( on software)
Adjustable volume
I can type in destinations or touch on the map via touch screen
I van also use voice command for stored destinations
All in all I am very happy!!!!!!
By the way any one know how I can see which version of windows I have on My MDAII ? Pocket PC 2002 or mobile 2003 ? :?:
Thx Rafiki!!!
I think i'm gonna buy this software!
@ Jag!
Forgot to mention I work for an Italian Company!
Navigon comes in standard in 7 languages.
Here is a hand book you can download from Navigon in 7 languages.
http://www.navigon.de/downloads/consumer_products/Short_Manual_7_languages.pdf
also if you visit the site there is a lot of info in English , including screen shots. You can also order via the site.
good luck

TMC ist a nice thing for navigation-software to react automaticly on current traffic-situations. Most of the software products use this feature.
For this a TMC-receiver must be implemented in the GPS-receiver. The Trinity and other likely PDA´s have it not.
Now my idea - or a simple question:
-----------------------------------
It must be possible to receive data of the current traffic over the i-net over GPRS/UMTS or maybe per SMS. A download in the office or at home over WLAN should be possible to.
Theoreticaly this data can be used for programming a "software-TMC". This could be realise the using of different data-sources for every navigation-software.
I think about using or re-programming the software-com-port in WM5 or higher (start/settings/system/extern gps) which maps the hardware-port com2: to GPD1: by default (other combinations are possible!)
The Point is now:
-----------------
How to integrate the traffic-data into the data-stream of the software-com-port GPD1: (or any equivalent port)
This is only an idea...
Oh yes, before i forget:
Answers contents "Who wants this?", "Using of TMC is free and mobile-internet cost money!" are not wanted. Please forgive, but thats not what i want to hear. I know this fact!
But the using of mobile-internet becomes more cheaper and many users have mobile-data-flatrates or volume-packages! Mobile-Internet is growing more and more!
PSlease forgive my maybe "strange" englisch, but I write text in englisch not very often!
pps:maybe that there exists an software that could do the thing I wanted, but I searched in many forums and search-engines - nothing found...

That´s the point !
I use iGO. This and many other navigation-software has tmc implemented. Using of TMC is free.
I knew the feature of TomTom. TomTom go its own way in providing traffic-information by money. Route66 and Navigate are not my way - I personaly favorite iGO or navigon.
And: I don´t want to change my navi-software.
My endeavor is to use every traffic-information with every software for free!

You sure about Route 66? I've been using Route 66 Navigate 7 for several years, and I could never get traffic to work. I ended up switching to CoPilot Live 7.
Besides the programming of the tool as such I'd expect you'll run into the following issues:
- locate a TMC server that provides the regarding Data for free. Myself I don't use it but I presume e.g. the Route66-Server at least requires a login and that might could be locked to owning the software. TMC-Pro normally is NOT for free!
Alternatively you maybe could grab the Data from a free Traffic Server from HTML, but those normaly don't provide TMC-Pro Data, only the stuff officially announced on the Radio (the "ordinary", free TMC data; at least it is like that in Germany) and hence are not really very useful.
- reprogramming/hacking of the regarding Routing Software so it accepts the Data from a Com-Port or anything. At least the commercial Programs hardly are free so I'd presume you'd need to hack it - and that is illegal, anyway.
I'm not aware of any routing Software provided under the GPL, but maybe I'm mistaken there.
Hence I think this is gonna be a very difficult task, though I definitely like the idea!
Cheers,
Markus.

That is not exactly correct.
While you can't use a TMC receiver with Tomtom their online Traffic Service provides just those data.
If I got it correctly that's just the bit Jassi_1975 wants to be replaced by a free of charge alternative.

Using Navigon I'm very interested aswell. Before Navigon I had Alturion and it worked great. Since Alturion stopped marketing I miss it. Navigon has the option TMC it only doesn't work with GPRS, just with a BT mouse. Having a Kaiser I find it ridiculous buying an extra BT mouse only for TMC (I have a flat free GPRS abo). Being a noob I have to rely on the experts on the forum, so please have a look
The idea is great.
I had this idee a while ago but aint that good programmer.
My idea wat to use a website in the NL (where I live) and get traffic data from that,
store it on your device in a file, next emulate a TMC port for fo rinstance igo and you dont have to hack the program.

That´s right, there are some services in html from where we could free collect the traffic-informations. Maybe it´s usefull to plan an "ONLINE-Collector" or so ...
But think about:

I don´t want to reprogramm/hack any Routing Software - I want to reprogramm (or hack) the given "port-switching" in Windows-Mobile!
So ANY Software which uses TMC can use ANY provided traffic-information. Ok any information we can collect.

Great idea! There are plenty of free sites with traffic info available, so if you can get this to work it would be awesome. I'd love to test it if you ever get it going. Good luck!
When you think further, it would be possible, that the programm runs in backround an updates every 5 Minutes, perhabs, so you would be able to have the latest traffic messages on your device!
I was looking for the same thing as I used MIO Map. I gave up and now I'm using Garmin Mobile XT which uses I-net and downloads realtime traffic. I don't have any idea how it does it though. Hopefully someone can come up with a solution!
Chris
I don't thing that this is really a big problem to make, the only programm is to someone to do this!
Add me on to the list of people wanting this solution. My personal favourite navigation software is IGo, and ONLY reason I sometimes switch over to TomTom is because I have traffic subscription and it works. If it works with IGo, it would be bye-bye TomTom.
If someone comes up with a solution, i'm willing to donate/pay for it.
same here, if it's worldwide
i will also donate round about 10$ , what about you other guys?
Some devices have built in FM Radio with RDS. Why not use this feature for traffic info?

Interesting...
I currently have the latest TT6 with latest 675.xx U.S. maps. What actual changes/improvements can we expect in TT7?
I was also wondering if they have fixed an annoying bug in TT6. Any time you launch TT6 it ALWAYS defaults to disabling Audio and you have to manually go into preferences and enable it _twice_ before you get sound. This is a documented, well known issue and it deals with how TT6 detects the radio as an active data connection and thus mutes audio since it thinks a communication is open (or something like that, may have it wrong). I believe it is designed to work like this as its present in all builds but it is a bit annoying.

ttn7 interface had some touch up, but remain pretty much the same as tt6. however, there are several big improvements, including the ability to use newer map and the ability of mapshare/map correction, and stronger and better routing engine. newer map is always better. all of the verson tt 6 maps were missing my cousin new area and my girlfriend's neighborhood. version 7 map has them. i havent got a chance to get mapshare working with my titan yet, but hope it would work one day. i tested the routing with tt7 by entering several destinations that im familiar with, such as my brothers and my sisters's places, parents and friends home, and tt7 gives me the best route that i would likely take. with the destinations that i have tried, i can say that routing of tt7 is much better than, iguidance, garmin xt, and tt6.
the voice/audio bug that you mentioned with tt6 6.032 is not there in tt7. for the same reason, i used tt6 6.02 instead of 6.032. tt6.02 doesnt have this issue. for some reasons, tt6.032 doesnt see your voice file at launch.
Just got this going right now after an interesting install. Works great, love having the newest map and engine. If anyone needs a walkthrough PM me and I will help as much as I can.

You will need to put the map and voices folders on the root of the sd card. The program cab should be run and they will find each other.
Is there another mirror for the app (not the maps, the app)? The one posted earlier in this thread was removed from rapidshare, and this one doesn't seem to work on the titan.

Here is my Question: Is there any software/programs to my HTC diamond that can Mapping Wireless on a map or with my Tomtom gps software ?.

PS. I have tryed Ministumbler but it says no WiFi adapter in the program.
No, 3-dimensional WiFi mapping is impossible without at least three receivers.
Unless that's not what you mean.

Try wififofum it can save locations of the access points via your builtin gps in an xml file, which you can convert to googlemaps format, ...
+1 to wififofum. I located over 100 hotspots in one hour with normal bike and small city. Easy and fast.
I used gpsbabel to convert poi's tomtom.
better get Airomap, more Info than wififofum and exports results to about anything you like...

also are there any sites specially for TP2/windows mobile apps??
thanks
AFAIK the Tomtom software is free, you only pay for the maps, but I could be wrong. I'm using 7.915.9196 which is VGA and works fine
I don't think there is any TP2 specific software on the market but there is loads of WM6 stuff
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php is a place to start and handango

TomTom is shipped with some devices. But it's not freeware!
Beware you don't start talking warez here
TomTom just made TomTom 7 available on their website for PocketPC's.
TomTom works just fine on the Rhodium probably.
no GPS LAG?
TOM TOM software is not free. and will not currently work with TP2. well the home software dont work. So i cant get the map i purchased. And they wont refund as i was not using a licensed version of software so definitely not free and not officially working

Hi
I Have tomtom 7.450 installed on my tp2 and its working well for me.
yes but are they legal versions and work with the TOMTOm home
I had version 7.910.9185 which didn't install.
I have now installed 7.915.9196 but it is asking to activate the map and wants an activation code.
So I went to ttcode.com to get one and it needs the product code. I can't find the product code anywhere, tomtom.com myorders doesn't mention one and tomtom home just shows the map version.
As far as I can make out from tomtom's help version ttn7 onwards don't use product codes.
So how do I get the activation code?
Contact TomTom about that
tomtom again
Hey guys,
iam new here and from germany.
Last week i got my new TP2 (branded by T-Mobile, now called "MDA Vario V")
i tried to install following versions:
Mod Edit: NO MENTION OF WAREZ PERMITTED
so,
if i install the programm on my "phone-storage" i got the warning "BTTrayCE is not a valiued application..."
if i install it on my sd-card i got NO warnings.
but in every versions i got the problem that the software do not find my extractet maps. I searched for a long time and tried different folders, and now its 11:00PM and i dont have any nerves left
i hope somebody can help me and gimme a detailed instructure how to get my tomtom running.
so far,
mypTx
TomTom questions always walk a thin line with regards to legality. No discussion of maps will be permitted.
Opps sorry never mind
There should be a ttnavigator.bif file on the root of the storage card which you can open up in notepad and find the code in there...I think.
if you have live services like traffic and speed cameras then 7.915 is useless as you cannot enable traffic (bug). There is also a definate lag on the GPS side of things compared to my TYTNII. Tomtom at present do not officially support the TP2, although when i phoned them they were more than happy to assist. TTHome is not worth bothering with till they release a version that is compatible with it. I kept on getting errors about device id not matching even though you select to change it and TomTom had reset my account. Gave up in the end and have copied speed cameras manually and traffic is now working.
Managed to get Tomtom 6 working!
Hi,
Having just bought a Touch Pro 2 sim free - loving the device and just about got it set up the way I like it.
You can indeed install Tomtom 6 on it, but BEFORE you do I highly recommend you install a utility called WVGAFIX3. What it does is allow you to change the resolution on your TP2.
Change it to VGA (640x480), then install and run TomTom. It's a bit of a pain toggling between resolutions at the moment, but once a WVGA version of tomtom is released then problem solved.
Got the radio working thanks to the CAB on here, and the 1% batt driver!

Why TT6? TT7.915.916 runs great on my Rhodium. No hassle with resolutions or anything.
Hi,
I tried to install TT Nav. 7 on my TP2, but it doesn't seem to work. I get a message dat TT7 is not compatible with my device. How did you guys got it to work?
Dear all,
It is posible to route Tomtom sounds to bluetooth headset or radio cd bt enabled as handsfree (as a phone call, only hear Tomtom when needed and till then carry on listening music)?
Thanks.
