GPRS issue - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Applications are not connecting to GPRS, if it makes sense.
The Weather is updating without any issues, applications such as the the web browsers, and youtube and google maps isnt working atall.
I tried hard resetting the phone, the problem still persists.
What do I do ?

"Connection Setup" in the connection menu will help. Select your country and your operator the tap "ok". It will setup the proper connection automaticly. Hope it helps.

Those were the settings I originally had, they stopped all of a sudden, I dont get how the weather updates and how the rest of the things dont work :\

In the connections section make sure you have proxy settings unchecked.
They have an annoying habit of re-enabling with my carrier (T-mobile).

there are two check boxes in the proxy settings tab
1 ) this network connects to the internet
2 )this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet
then theres a box to put the proxy
the first check box automatically enables itself, the weather thing doesnt work if the this box is unchecked
the second box is always disabled

It's not that then.

By the way, flashing a newer radio might also help.

I switched to this rom

everything seems to be working just fine now

internet explorer / connections woes

yes, i have opera too, but this is sitll pissing me off.
i've been messing around with my vario II to have it be online both through my corporate firewall/proxy as well as on a normal internet connection.
something messed up. now, internet explroer no longer connects. i've tried numerous methods:
1) wireless (802.11) - says page not found, even though every other app works
2) 3G - says "locating" for like 30 seconds then says page not found
3) bluetooth/activesync - immediately shows a page under construction website, even if i'm opening google. this is for every site.
any tips?
something seems to have disappeared from my "connections" settings - now i no longer see the work connection / option to configure proxy. all i see now is my default "home" connection which only give the options "add a new modem connection" and "manage existing connections".
everythign else works fine.
any ideas?

I had exactly the same problems -- for weeks (although not with opera).
Called half an hour ago and got HSDPA enabled on my line.
Now works like never before!
I'm having the same issue, except that PIE WILL work with wifi, but not EDGE/GPRS.
Every other app works fine (Opera, Google Maps, etc) via wifi and EDGE/GPRS.
this may be unrelated, but when I had activesync on the pc set to 'automatic' instead of 'work' it would push proxy settings to my phone. verify this has happened by putting *.* for exceptions. if you can surf then, you have a proxy set up due to activesync from your work pc. some of my connections didn't show the proxy, but in the registry it was there. setting work pc to passthrough=work rather than automatic stopped this from happening again.
hope this was clear enough.
wes
Thanks for the suggestion, but its still a no go.
It just boggles the mind that PIE doesn't work through GPRS/EDGE/3G but every other internet enabled app does... and that PIE will work through WiFi makes it even more strange.. Usually its the other way around for most people (problems with WiFi, not their mobile data connection).
I've even run the \windows\welcome.exe a few times, as this seems to have fixed it for some others.
I've also tried switching to wap.cingular (MEdia net), hard coding openDNS servers as well as the old standbys (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2).

Wifi not working on my 8528

My brother gave me his 8525 after his girlfriend bought him a new phone. I then unlocked it using the unlocker that i found here so that I could use it on tmobile. I am on a prepaid plan and there is no way to get internet through tmobile with prepaid, but the WIFI should still work, but it doesnt. I can get it to connect to a network but when i open IE it wont go to any web adress i type in. Any ideas????

Tried that, and it didnt make any difference.
When I try to go to a site it says " Cannot Connect: Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
I have tried messing around with the settings, but i still cant get it to work right.
I think IE is still trying to connect to the internet via AT&T's network service instead of going through wifi.
Under start>settings>system do you have a proxy folder? maybe it's under programs as well. Look for it. If you do, run disable proxy.
Also go to start>settings>connections>network cards>network adapters
make sure this is reads under "my network card connects to: the internet"
select your 802.11b/g and make it "use server assigned ip address"
Hopefully that helps
hey man thanks for the tips, but it still is not working.
I found my proxy folder and ran disable proxy, my card is set to connect to the internet and it uses the server assigned IP adress.
But now when i try to use the internet it does not give me the "can not connect due to your settings" message, it just keeps trying to load the page but nothing happens.
go to start>settings>connections
click on connections
go to the advanced tab and click on select networks
on the first dropdown make it "my isp"
with the second select "my work network"
That should do it
i think that worked. Im not near a strong wifi signal right now but i think its doing the right thing. Ill know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks Pedro 2K
I was having the same issue on my 8525 after going to 6. Seems fine now. I'll try from work on Monday.
~E
well as it turns out that did not work. I still think it has somtething to do with it trying to connect to AT&t's network.
any other ideas?
i posted in another thread about a similar issue that i have and it is still not solved
some programs that use data on my device will not connect using 3g (pocket outlook using gmail), but they will connect when the wifi is on
it's kind of the opposite of what's going on with yours, but i believe the root of the problem is the same, because we are getting the exact same error message
i believe the problem stems from how/why windows mobile 6 organizes connections; which makes no sense to me whatsoever
under connections i have:
"My ISP"
"MEdia Net"
"Work"
Of course there is nothing even under my isp, or work, yet it wont let me delete them
i tried deleting them manually from the registry and that messed a whole lot of things up, so plz do not make that mistake
my media net settings ARE correct, but why are there so many different connections here, that arent even being used, yet i cant remove them?
what the hell is "MY Isp" ? I thought Media net was my isp...lol
this is confusing and frustrating
any more ideas????
Try disabling and data connections using this:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Software/246171/New-FREE-Utility/
This should make sure it is trying to go through wireless. Just a quick question, you are not connected to activsync while trying wifi are you?
ok, since you're using t-mobile, and only just want to use wifi, do this
go to start>settings>connections->connections->advanced
switch both to "my isp", click on edit (either one is fine), delete the modem number in there.
The last thing you need to do is disable the hidden proxy proxy. I dont know exactly how, cause i dont use the AT&T rom anymore, but its somewhere in the start menu, just poke around, there should be a "disable proxy' somewhere
@ surgex0
if you think that's confusing......on the tilt, they've added a 4th one.......AT&T ISP. But basically, whatever settings that was in My ISP, is now in AT&T ISP.

Google account connection / Market connection

Ok, I prolly worked myself in to some troubles. The htc hero was launched 2 days ago in netherlands...but was delayed in belgium for another week.
This for the youtube application that cannot exist on the htc hero for Belgium.
So I just went to netherland and bought a htc hero with the youtube application.
After playing with the htc hero I marked a quite big problem
1) I cannot connect to my google email.
With that I cannot connect to the andriod market for apps etc...
Could this be because I'm using my phone in Belgium? Where actually you should have a other phone? I remember reading something about regioblock?
Someone with info/solutions?
I've got the same problem with my Dutch Hero, but I live in the Netherlands (Vodafone NL)
edit : Tried to add hotmail manually (true email apps) works
edit : tried to add gmail manually (true email apps) works!
connecting before market...fails
check in settings > wireless > mobile networks > access point names
select the one for your network and check to make sure there is no proxy listed.
make sure it is just PROXY that you delete, and not MMS PROXY, as otherwise your MMS will stop working.
hopefully that will help.
I get the feeling that some of this stufff i blocked by the network proxies the same as MSN and youtube are blocked by proxies on WinMo handsets.

No I saw that more ppl have this problem.
It's not connecting using UMTS or WiFi, so it's not a network problem, it's a Hero problem.

Their was only the base mobile internet (gprs.base.be) and base MMS.
The base mobile internet was not marked on,so I did that but stil not working...
Just reset your phone to fabric settings and fill in your gmail account when the phone bootes (in the phone setup wizard) and everything will work fine.
Shut down the phone and press home button + back button + power button to start the reset, follow the screen for insructions.
They told me you have to have connection true 3g with your sim card...
To make the first connection you need this and no wifi...
I copy from the android forum :
I'll say it again.
You CAN'T set up Google Sync through an unprovisioned data package.
Now I though you could use wifi to set it up but you can't. You HAVE to set up Google Sync through 3G and it has to be through a Mobile Internet add-on!
Once set up you can use wifi/2g/3g/hsdpa
I know it doesnt make any sense but Google Sync doesn't use WiFi for the first set up and the Service Provider blocks Google Unless you use one of their data tariffs... Really Google should be provisioned to set up through wifi but probably part of this anti piracy malarky...
Yet again awsome phone, shockingly bad service providers.
Just wait till the data is provisioned and restart your phone. No luck then reset to factory defaults and try again.
(I had to do the same thing)
I had problems with connecting to Market then I did a hard reset on the phone and setup google account during initial wizard and it worked ok.
If your 3g network has restrictions you can always try wi-fi at your local hotspot
I still can't get wifi to provide a data connection, has to bephone network. Have tried several factory reboots :-(
if you are willing to experiment you could maybe flash your hero with WWE R3 rom release (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533808)
However, be prepared to accept the fact that USB might not work until newer edition of ROM is available
not sure i believe that, as i have one at work and have signed in multiple times to google after a hard reset without a sim even being in the phone!
It even asks you if you want to use Wifi during the intial start up process, so it definitely CAN use the wifi for the initial set up, or at least the one we have here can!
just received hero and this misfunctionality is really irritating.
Does anybody knows how to reinstall this applications new?
it should be gmail, market and gtalk.
thanks in advance-
very odd.
Had a friend in NL that had this problem, but when we looked, it turned out that only the Vodafone MMS APNs had been set up (or were the only ones visible) and creating one manualy fixed the problem. He didn't have WiFi to try with at the time.
it was very strange as again, he could browse over 3G!
just checked....the settings are OK: Vodafone IT, but still can not get in.
tried also without a sim, only wifi, same result no connection...
should i really reset it? any other ideas?
thx in advance
I did the reset....
I made sure I was directly at my wifi spot...connected to gmail went ok...market now works perfectly...
Strange tho...
could there be some sort of automatic check in with the google servers the first time the handset is ever turned on? maybe if that fails, it could be linked?
reset, first config done, now it works great, some things are real mistery....
thanks to all
hi guys
i dont know if this the right pleace to ask but
does the hero have AUTO SETUP CONNECTION ??
that when you first time put a sim card or go to other network the phone auto setup your data connection . like htc diamond
I guess the network branded ones may not, but the unbranded one i have been using at work certainly does.

setting connection preference ???

is there a way to make sure the phone only connects to my home wi fi hub when at home and does not connect via my 3g vodafone connection. I want it to automatically select the fastest link and not waste my 3g allowance ? I've searched but cannot find a solution, thanks
+1 good idea, anyone got anything on this?
Andi,
The solution I would use would be to go to Settings>Wireless Controls and simply switch Data Connections off, Wifi On when at home.
You would have to remember to to reverse this when done if you want to access 3G services.
WB
u could use G-Profile.. It allows you to set up different profiles and switch them automatically based on your current cell id. Wifi on/3G off when at home, other way around when not. Works like a charm for me
thanks for the tip but when I do that it then automatically turns it back on even when I'm connected to the wireless hub, all of a sudden they both are on . . . . . . .?? any ideas ??
i have the same problem... it keeps using my 3G/EDGE network even if WIFI is available... and i dont get it how can HTC afford not to give us an option to set that the phone asks you for permission when connecting to 3G/EDGE network... this **** costs and im not really happy about the fact that my phone can connect to a network whenever it feels like.
(and yes this **** keeps happening even tho i disabled automatic updates in weather/time applications.)
In BSB tweaks if you press options I think there is an option to disable all data connections. I have never tried it but maybe it will override all connection attempt? Give it a try. Also, I flashed to the 2.01 ROM and I think the data connections are a little less persistent, though I don't wan't to guarantee anything!

does it not do that by default? i cant send emails through t-email when i'm at home - I just presumed this was because i was connected through my wireless router. turning off wifi allows me to send emails.
thus I presumed wifi takes preference?
I am wondering the same thing. The idealist situation would be to have both connections active at the same time, and let the HD2 make sure that wifi is used when the connection is there. Is there some kind of application to verify which connection is being used?
Great thread - I am not the only HD2 owner who is annoyed with the problem with the HD2 switching on its GRPS data connection without my approval!!!
Could it be that the HD2 turns off the wifi when it goes to sleep and then tries to connect to the web using the GPRS network? In that case how do I prevent turning off WIFI when in sleepmode?
I read somewhere else in this forum about a G-profile. Being a newbie with HTC I have no idea what this is. Any clue?
But overall: Yes, it would be great if HTC added an option to set network connection preferences.
WiFi does take preference if it's connected! Dont forget when you are at home and you turn your phone on from standby it will take 10sec or so to connect to your WiFi router, if you try and use IE, Opera, Twitter, Weather Update, Email, etc... before it's connected it will fire up your 3G data connection!
The phone does not how ever turn off your data conn when it's idle which is annoying! You need to use Bandswitch or CommManager from here http://www.commmgrpro.com/jsp/main_frame.jsf;jsessionid=103F335931311F019BD540B82E479383 or WMLonglife from this forum (do a search).
there must be someone out there with ghe know how and expertise to solve this ?? glad to see its an issue for othet folk, i like the idea for selecting wi fi over gprs if its there to be selected.......
I found out that my HD2 automatically closes the 3G connection when I have wifi active. I'm not sure why it does that, I know pretty sure that it had not always done that. But I'm quite happy with it
It turns 3G on again after disconnecting from WIFI, which is what I want.
so if you tap the notifications tab and the "contratc internet" is counting and the wi fii is connected it is using the wifi and not the "contract internet" even though the timer is counting ???
Can anyone confirm ???
p.s tried using the G-Profile software, it seems very inconsistant and didnt always turn off what it should when you select the profile so im going to unistall it.
for some reason the automatic internet settings from vodafone messes up/hides the "The Internet" or "MyISP" connection that is in the phone originally.. I even hard resetted but you just can't seem to stop the automatic settings..
disable the proxy of the "Vodafone live!" connection and it will work.. just like twitter etc..
the same with email only checking through 3G and not wifi.. but set the server settings of your account to "The Internet" after you disabled the proxy.. (advanced settings at the smpt server tab)
hope this helps.. but a thing worries me, as I don't know anything about proxies, why does vodafone specify a proxy if we don't realy need one.. to port us over their live portal or something? (on my old sony ericsson the track ID service didn't work because of that)
"disable the proxy of the "Vodafone live!" connection and it will work.. just like twitter etc.."
thanks but how do i do this ??
anyone know how i do this ? thanks
After including the Taskmanager as a quick link in HTC Sense I am now able to close all programs. Now I do no longer experience any unfortunate GPRS connections when connected to WIFI.
Only problem is that when running on batteries the WIFI connection is closed down when the unit enters sleepmode. However during sleepmode, if I have not closed down programs accessing the web these are now able to connect to the web by using the GPRS connection.
Why on Earth has HTS decided to decipher a click on the X as MINIMIZE and not CLOSE!!!

My HD2 is harassing me with UMTS

Hello,
I just bought a Leo. My provider is Vodafone IT.
From the very first moment, while WiFi is present in my house, the phone tried to connect to Internet via UMTS. It does so often when Wifi is temporarily unavailable.
After my old Glofiish M800, one year ago, made me spend 3€ for two consecutive connections for the duration of a half second each (1.50€ on connection then) I requested Vodafone to completely disable Internet access for my SIM card. All I did then was to connect the PDA to USB cable and SPB Weather immediately tried to update weather without even waiting for Net via ActiveSync to become available in a few seconds.
With Leo, I also deleted all network access points from configuration, set all profiles to Office Network and unchecked (my ROM is Italian) "This connection has Internet access" "Questa connessione dispone di accesso a Internet".
What occurs now is that often, but really OFTEN, even during the night, especially when I'm on the road and I'm not interested in Facebook, YouTube or weather, the phone turns on and two popup appear:
One as a notification "Called: " (before deleting AP "Called: web.omnitel.it" "Chiamata effettuata: web.omnitel.it"). The other as error message about problems with GPRS.
I also have to pay great attention to the second popup. Once, but fortunately not today, it went over the lock screen and I was unable to unlock it as the slider was below the popup. I was also unable to close the popup as the screen was locked so I had to soft-reset.
I only installed TomTom and Core Player for now.
I DON'T WANT TO PAY VODAFONE LOTS OF MONEY FOR UMTS ACCESS WITHOUT MY CONSENT, NOR SIGN UP FOR FLAT PLANS AS I HAVE WIRELESS ACCESS IN EVERY PLACE I USUALLY GO!!!
Can somebody help me tell Leo to NEVER TRY to use UMTS? I had to agree with Vodafone that I would have been unable to even send MMSs and perform videocalls until I restore UMTS, but I can't spend this huge money for the sake of weather and for greedy (it's the right word) software that just want to connect to the Internet whenever THEY want (ie. Windows Vista/7 does Windows Update only when Internet is detected, it never tries to connect until you do manually).
Thank you. Please anser me ASAP. If I don't find a solution, I will return the PDA to the seller (it's a great PDA, I wouldn't like to)
settings menu all settings connections connections advanced tab select networks change the top drop down to "my work network"
hope it helps!
Hi, I followed what you suggested and, in order to test faster, I tried to manually update weather from HTC Sense.
First of all, even if I uncheck the Internet access checbox from Office Network ("My work network" you mentioned), I always see it comes back again. I found that "ISP settings" only shows two tabs, and no Internet/proxy checkbox, so I also tested selecting this connection.
I also entered "*" as list of intranet addresses.
Every time I try to update weather, for all of these tests, I see the 3G arrows on top of notification bar flashing for a couple of seconds and the same exact alerts
Does your phone always connect to 3G?
[EDIT] I also tested http://www.htc.com/au/faqs.aspx?p_id=297&cat=264&id=118112, no result. But actually the help page says it clearly: it's normal that the phone will notice errors.
Is there any registry tweak or what?
Hello,
To solve your problem, go to the redfrogfish website, google to find the link. Download and install the Data Controller cab. This enables you to turn on/off the data connection function of the HD2
(I wanted to give you the link, but I am a new user and not allowed to do so)
Good Luck

I think you are going further into the settings than i need to.
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connections - switch to advanced tab - click 'select networks'
See my image 1 - setting the top dropdown to 'my work network' (or 'the internet', it gets called slightly diff thing depending on your setup, ,)) means it will look for whatever active connection is available and use that.
I also have a commmanager that has seperate on/off toggles for 3g and data.(see pic 2) So, if i turn off data connection, but leave 3g on, even though i have 3g (well, H) showing available on the top bar, if i go to update the weather it comes up with 'connection error'. If i start opera, it fails, etc etc.
Back into comm manager., turn back on the data toggle, everything works again.
If i turn off 3g, and leave data off, I get the same results.
