Sorry if newbie question. Got HTC tmobile dash 3g wanna flash to use on at&t. Friend says HTC indicated the tmobile dash 3g wouldnt work on at&t 3g frequency of 850MHZ. Seen some info on flashing the radio? Does that mean i could flash the phone so it would work on 850MHZ or is it a hardware limitation in the phone?
Thanks
Matt
Unfortunately no. The radios are in the hardware/firmware. Supposedly all the Maple's have all the bands, just a matter of finding a way to unlock them. Flashing the radio partitions will not do it either. Tough to say why HTC went through such hassle to localize their devices. The only Maple's that will work in USA on AT&T is MAPL120 (HTC Maple S522) and MAPL130 (HTC Maple S523). Dash3G will only do GPRS/EDGE.
HTC Mapl100 frequencies available?
Thanks for responding ookba. I guess i will try to email HTC and ask them if the Mapl100 has the bands just like the Mapl120. If so, then they probably locked out certain bands at tmobiles request. Which is bs in my opinion. Does tmobile think anyone will leave a carrier just cause of a certain phone with all the phone competition out there? I stay with a carrier cause of pricing and customer service, not phones. If anyone knows about the bands on the Mapl100 please let us know.
Thanks
Dash3G: GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100
Snap S521: GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
Snap S522: GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900
Snap S523: GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS2100
Their way of making more $ in the various worldwide markets. Let me know what HTC says if you call them.

Pardon my ignorance but isn't the US version of this device only UMTS 850/1900? If so how is it that T-Mobile (which I understand uses UMTS 1700/2100) will sale this device subsidized? What am I missing?
Jw where did u get that information, it might be true but that wouldn't make any sense. I definitely think it will support 3g, or similar to the Nexus1 that only supports T-mobile 3g.
From PDADB.NET
This is the site where I found the specifications for HTC HD2 US: http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2062&c=htc_hd2_us_htc_leo
Umm I think that site is misleading b/c it has 2 differently spec'd HD2s
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2059&c=t-mobile_htc_touch_hd2_htc_leo
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2062&c=htc_hd2_us_htc_leo
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900
Maybe that answers your question?
There are two different versions
The US verion is named HTC HD2 US and the Eropean version HTC HD2. Basically the only difference is that the UMTS frequencies are different in the two devices.
First off, PDAdb is trash. TRASH.
The HD2 US is referring to the TMOBILE USA version which runs on 1700/2100 UMTS. There's no such HD2 having 850/1900 UMTS (AFAIK). The closest you'll come to having AT&T 3G is the Telstra version (there's thread is on the front page) which has 850/2100.
OK guys, time has come to upgrade my phone. currently I have a rather old Hermes, pretty reliable BTW, but I'm thinking about jumping board to Android. Of all the devices I have been watching the Magic is the one that provides more bang for the buck, or so I think.
The point is, do you guys have any advise before I fly by fleebay to plung the cash??? any noticeable difference between T-Mobile and HTC versions, besides RAM??? What is the meaning of life???
Thanks in advance.
I almost forgot... 3G should be on the 900 Mhz. band... Which version has it???
I'm uncertain bout HTC's direct model ,but a MyTouch 3G (be it v1, Limited Edition Fender, and v1.2 [the two latter have more ram than the v1]) supports the following:
Cellular-Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100
Cellular-Data: CSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA
Since, your phone carrier is Orange, I would think that you would be looking for the HTC Magic, which is the one with more RAM, but then again I don't know the exact radio bands for carriers outside the US.
I've decided to get an HD2, but I do not know if I should get the T8585 or T9193. I understand that they have different bands, but is there any other difference (aussie models)?
I don't know anything about the different bands. Currently I am just using a virgin prepaid sim. I'm not interested in a contract at the moment, so I'll likely continue with that. I am in Cairns, Australia.
Given this information, can anyone help me decide what model would be best for me?
bumpitty bump
If I'm not mistaken,
T9 is the only model that would give you 3g.
I think you are right. That the T9193 is the only one that would get true 3g speeds (on NextG). But given that I am not with Telstra, can I get NextG anyway?
Will the virgin sim work in the phone?
Thanks.
if you stay on virgin, get the T8585. (Yes the sim should work in the phone, assuming it isn't sim locked.)
virgin uses the optus network, which uses the bands
gsm
900/1800 for voice, gprs and edge
and
2100/900 for dual band high speed.
The 8585 has
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900,
UMTS900, UMTS2100
so its a full match
The 9193 however has 850/2100 UMTS so you would only get a single band high speed connection on the 2100.
I can't use the HSPA 850 on t8585 model (Ecuador latin America).
Only GSM 850 band.
Can I hack the phone??? Or is impossible?
these are the bands for the t8585
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900,
UMTS900, UMTS2100
so you will only get data (hsdpa umts 3G) on 900/2100
850 will only give you edge.
No you cannot hack it, it is fixed in the hardware. Sorry.

Thanks my friend. Have a nice day.
You need the T9193 Model. It's the Telstra Australian version. I got one.
Sorry I had to mention that because I'm proud I feel like I'm "beating the system" and actually using the phones I want on the network I want.
Hello all..
umm,just wanna ask .
Can T-Mobile,T8585,T8588,T9193 has a 3G connection or HSDPA in Asia?
Thank's
Where in Asia?
I found a helpful resource from gsmarena (recommended by fellow XDA member).
I googled "gsmarena mobile networks" then select "Mobile Networks - GSM and 3G Coverage".
Sorry, I cannot post links.
Then depending on the country/city's 3G frequency, you can determine which HD2 models will work for your location.
For example: Assuming you want to use it in Medan, Indonesia - for 3G/HSPA, it requires UMTS2100
T-Mobile = GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UTMS1700(AWS) / UMTS2100
T8585 = GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
T8588 = GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
T9193 = GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS2100
Hopefully this helps you.

hm,is that mean all version of HD2 with 3G or HSDPA works in Indonesia, especially medan?
Technically, yes. But I think it will be safer to ask your wireless provider to be certain. I am not sure how telecom companies operate in Indonesia - same frequency for all locations in the country?
I am thinking of getting HD2 too; looking for used T9193 (I need 850 and/or 1900 for Rogers Wireless). I have a data plan but I do not browse the internet very often so hopefully it does not affect me that much.
Sorry I was of much help. Maybe someone in Indonesia can answer your question

and good luck for finding T9193..
You're welcome
Hopefully you can find a HD2 that works for your network. It will be a head-turner
