Hero for Sprint - Hero, G2 Touch General

Does anyone know if the proccess for rooting a GSM hero will work on rooting the sprint version of the hero when it comes out?
Trying to decide between the unlocked GSM version keeping AT&T and only having edge or dropping AT&T and picking up the hero on sprint on the 11th.
Thanks

Did you ever get an answer. I can't believe that all these sprint users have not came up with something yet. I can't find it

From everything Ive read online...the process is completely different and you're at risk of bricking your phone.
That said, I haven't tried it and could be wrong.
But everything Ive read says you can't do it at the moment.

Theres been many questions and posts about this. The answer is no...you cant root the cdma yet...i cant wait until we can though. Our phone is still very new

I would have waited and not signed up with sprint would I have known.
Glad I returned my sprint one. The sprint coverage where I live is NOT what at&t have. Just ordered from GSMImport. They are extremly fast with shipping and this one comes already unlocked! I always loved the white chin version of the hero best! Glad I waited! The only flaw from what I hear is the android market is NOT showing all or paid apps on the Telus version... Can anyone confirm this?
Telus wont show paid apps, cuz there are no paid apps for canada yet, not even the Rogers android phones show paid apps. For the network, if u are in a US network, paid apps should show fine.
ow, so its not the phone that doe sit but the network that allows them? Come to think of it, when I had my rogers mytouch, it was showing apps just fine on the at&t network. Thanks Rosco!
Well, there goes that. Confirmed that paid app's on the telus version are not there! Sucks!

Rooting should solve this problem tho =)
I got a rooted Rogers Magic, working on Mexico`s Telcel, with paid apps.
I hear ya. I beleive the Telus Hero is NOT rootable as of yet. Do you need to be rooted in order to install the market enabler APK?

Telus Hero rooting guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581981
good thing i posted this in the normal hero forum instead of the cdma one. over at android forums they deleted most of my posts stating i posted in the wrong forum. I for one did not know this phone was going to be released at all with North American bands. it passed the fcc a while back with NA bands but hadn't heard anything since.
yeah i just rooted my Telus Hero.. took a while, had alot of problems but eventually it worked and everything is fine now
(HUGE sigh of relief LOL)

Saw that guide. I'm sure I can probably get it rollin but don't have that kind of time theses days. I'll just wait for the official root for the Telus. I'm sure someone will do it.

Thats because the current ROM on the Telus Hero can't be rooted yet. I have already rooted the unlocked EURO hero and the rogers mytouch and the process was very simply. None of this down-grading or anything like that which add's additional steps and risks.
I rooted my Telus Hero.... No problem at all. Flashed to cooked roms.
Why some people still think Telus Hero is not rootable?

tell me about it, my SMS wasnt working after the rooting.. luckily for me, i noticed a dead pixel on my screen.. i was in the 15day grace period so i went back to the store and they swapped it
guy's my biggest concern about the HTC Hero is that, i read from some sites that AT&T might pick up the Hero in early 2010, if that does happen what will happen to the people that bought the phone from telus and are using it? Will our phones be handicapped until we buy a $30.00 data plan like the iphone or blackberry?
Just FYI - I have the unlocked Telus Hero from ImportGSM (they are up the street from my office!) and I have paid apps in the marketplace.

Same here. I got mine from them as well. It's does not have all the apps though (paid & free) Some copyrighted apps are not on it... Apps like bloo which is one of the first apps I install... Many others. My cousin has the droid and he has WAY more apps in his market.

[Q] Will my Unlocked Sprint S4 work with a Verizon prepaid SIM?

I have been doing research and searching these forums for a few days now, I'm trying to not be one of those people who ask questions that have been answered. But at this point I'm at the end of the road.
I bought a Sprint Galaxy S4, model SPH-L720.
I unlocked it using this method Sprint Galaxy S IV SPH-L720 SIM Unlock Method
Reverted back to MDC baseband and all that good stuff, just as instructed. It seemed to have went well without a hitch.
My question now is:
I want to buy one of these Verizon 4G Sim Activation Kits from walmart
Is it possible that I can buy one of those, insert the SIM into my unlocked Sprint S4, and have a working phone? I ask because I don't want to drop $50 if it doesn't have a chance of working. The instructions for this say that it will work with a VERIZON S4, but since my SPRINT S4 is unlocked, should that be okay?
I don't know much, but in my reading I found that Sprint and Verizon both use CDMA, not GSM. So I figured I had a better chance of this phone working if I go with Verizon because of this.
I am in the United States.
If you need any other information or screen shots please let me know, thank you for taking the time to help me out!!
EDIT: would it be possible to test it out, if one of my friends has a verizon phone under contract, and I took their SIM and inserted it into my phone?
Try it.
Like the guy above me said. Try it. One way to find out. Personally I don't think it would work. As the whole point of unlocking the sprint Gs4 is to use it on GSM networks. From what I know you have to flash the sprint phone to Verizon. Plus you WONT get LTE on Verizon because the bands are not supported. So you'll only get 3g.

thank you for the info! i'm just learning about all of this, so i don't have a firm grip on everything yet.
in the tutorial i used and linked above, the file I used with Odin was actually titled "S4 Flasher", so I believe I unlocked it and flashed it with this? Again, Im sorry, Ive tried searching and am just looking for verification if Im correct.
I'm not worried about LTE, 3G is fine really. Also, I'm not set on Verizon, I just want my phone to work, doesn't matter what network I'm using. If it would be "safer" or a better bet to get into a GSM prepaid, I will do that instead. I was just under the assumption (incorrectly probably lol) that since sprint is CDMA, that going to another CDMA carrier would be easier.
Cricket, Net10, StraightTalk, and AT&T etc are all available at the store I think if I go GSM
Again thanks for taking the time to help everyone!

I unlocked my sprint GS4 and went to Cricket. And I've been happier than when i was with Sprint (service wise). I have signal in 98% of the places I go to. Which is a HUGE improvement over sprint. And even though this phone only connects to HSPA+ which is capped at 3.5 Mbps its plenty fast for all my daily activities. So I recommend a GSM prepaid.

Possible to use a Sprint HTC 10 on Verizon with unlimited data & hotspot?

Hi all,
I didn't see anything from reading through the forum on using a Sprint HTC 10 on Verizon. It sounds like there's been success with Tmobile and AT&T.
So far, this is what I've found:
-Sprint HTC 10 should have all the LTE bands necessary for Verizon
-Sprint HTC 10 needs to be sim unlocked before anything can be done
-S-Off + root are required for any potential workaround for Verizon, as the appropriate radio needs to be flashed
How far off base am I? I am intrigued because I am on Verizon and I'd like to take advantage of the sprint HTC 10 sale that's supposedly going on right now. Thanks in advance!
I have the same question. I'm trying to jump on that but for T-Mobile. I'm just worried I won't be able to get the device unlocked.
Historically, Verizon and Sprint don't activate each others' phones. They're the two big CDMA carriers that don't use SIM cards, but activate by ESN directly. But there are always those who get lucky.
? anythin
I've been working on that recently. I actually want to be able to switch between Sprint and Verizon.
Sprint has to activate both the phone and the SIM. Verizon has moved to just using SIM cards. I've been able to move a Verizon SIM between devices and have everything work, even on devices that aren't official Verizon devices and even some that only support part of the bands Verizon uses and work on the ones they support.
With the HTC 10, I've been able to get S-OFF and unlock the phone myself since Sprint wouldn't do it. When I put in my Verizon SIM, it recognizes it but for whatever reason is unable to connect to anything but 1X Roaming (probably on Sprint but it won't say). Poking around in CDMAtool hasn't helped much.
I'll update this if I ever figure it out.
Any updates? I'm curious myself. I have the Sprint HTC 10 and am working on finding an MVNO that I like, some of the Verizon ones are tempting.

I got s-off and then unlocked via one of the methods here in xda. Using on t-mobile perfectly. No issues.

By perfectly do you mean volte and Wi-Fi calling are working for you? If so please point to the guide you used. I can't find where anyone using a sprint 10 has gotten those things on T-Mobile.
I would be surprised if a sprint 10 used on Verizon would have that work too but haven't seen any mention of it.

I unlocked the bootloader and installed ViperRom, picking the US Unlocked version as my device. I have working VoLTE, but not wifi calling. (Note, this is on Mint Sim, which uses the T-Mobile network)
yeah it would be great if someone could give a for sure answer to this. I've found a lot of post giving conflicting information all over xda and r/htc10 about this. I would love to buy a used sprint htc 10 (seems to be the cheapest version by far) and use it on a verizon mvno, but until I know for sure it works I' not going to do it.

ATT V20 to T-Mobile Question.

So I have searched the internet and found no good/complete answers for this, I apologize if it's been discussed.
I purchased an ATT V20 while I still had ATT. I've since switched T-MOBILE. My device is carrier unlocked but plenty of T-MOBILE features seem to look for certain software (i.e. mobile hotspot) that is ATT branded and nonfunctioning. Since o am operating fully on T-MOBILEs bands and what not, is there any way to flash my OS/kernel/etc to essentially make this phone T-Mobile branded. I am aware I will probably need to root if possible during the process, but im not looking for a relationship phone (right meow). Just a better functioning T-Mobile V20.
Thanks!
(Also I know all of this comes with risks, but I am out of the country and unable to get to a store should I brick it, so a good recovery option would be nice, but I think we are still stuck for ATT variant.)
What's a relationship phone? And are you a cat?
Sent from my LG-LS997 using Tapatalk
It would probably be cheaper to see if you can trade the device in to T-Mobile, get the credit for it, and just get a V20 from them.
Possibly sell on Swappa and find a us996 or h918 for around $400 or cheaper on sale.
Was really hoping you all were gonna tell me I could just flash TMobile to it... It seems that's not happening

I don't think it would let you, and if you managed it, you'd be probably dealing with an irreversible brick.
You could TRY to use a Tmo rom but if you flash a Tmo KDZ(somehow) then you will 100% brick with no way to recover.
I did not want to make a whole new post, so I'm asking my question in this thread because it seem to be close to my question. I am getting a AT&T LG-V20 and I want to root it. is there a good reliable root out for this phone?

This only works if your Rom version is under ZV6 and security patch before December 2016 I believe.

Non us HTC 10 to sprint network

Hi, I made a mistake and bought a new non US unlocked HTC 10. I tired to hook it up to sprint with no success. My ultimate goal would be to make it work normally on Sprint network.
I have done a lot of searching, and it seems like I can unlock the phone, flash sprint ruu, and flash radios to make it work on sprint?
Can I clone my original sprint HTC 10?
Or am I S.OL.?
I would appreciate any help and guidance with my mission, or if it's even possible to get this phone working.
Thanks!!
Did you ever go through with this? I am interested in upgrading to an HTC 10 as it has the form factor (what is with the trend toward giant phones?) and features that are otherwise unavailable in any of the current crop of unlocked Sprint compatible phones. It seems like the only new HTC 10 models still available are the unlocked version. I understand that this method works for Verizon, but I haven't yet seen confirmation on Sprint.
