ATT V20 to T-Mobile Question. - LG V20 Questions & Answers

So I have searched the internet and found no good/complete answers for this, I apologize if it's been discussed.
I purchased an ATT V20 while I still had ATT. I've since switched T-MOBILE. My device is carrier unlocked but plenty of T-MOBILE features seem to look for certain software (i.e. mobile hotspot) that is ATT branded and nonfunctioning. Since o am operating fully on T-MOBILEs bands and what not, is there any way to flash my OS/kernel/etc to essentially make this phone T-Mobile branded. I am aware I will probably need to root if possible during the process, but im not looking for a relationship phone (right meow). Just a better functioning T-Mobile V20.
Thanks!
(Also I know all of this comes with risks, but I am out of the country and unable to get to a store should I brick it, so a good recovery option would be nice, but I think we are still stuck for ATT variant.)

What's a relationship phone? And are you a cat?

It would probably be cheaper to see if you can trade the device in to T-Mobile, get the credit for it, and just get a V20 from them.

Possibly sell on Swappa and find a us996 or h918 for around $400 or cheaper on sale.

Was really hoping you all were gonna tell me I could just flash TMobile to it... It seems that's not happening

I don't think it would let you, and if you managed it, you'd be probably dealing with an irreversible brick.

You could TRY to use a Tmo rom but if you flash a Tmo KDZ(somehow) then you will 100% brick with no way to recover.

I did not want to make a whole new post, so I'm asking my question in this thread because it seem to be close to my question. I am getting a AT&T LG-V20 and I want to root it. is there a good reliable root out for this phone?

This only works if your Rom version is under ZV6 and security patch before December 2016 I believe.

What? My sprint phone came with zv3. Never heard of 10N either because atnt uses the same version format.

ATT doesn't use the same version format. Look at opensource.lge.com: http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=ALL&search=H910

[Q] AT&T S4... Switch to T-mobile S4

I Have the AT&T S4... should I switch to T-mobile S4? (bootloader issues)... I want to make the move before I can no longer return my AT&T S4... any thoughts? I know the AT&T S4 would tend to have more going on in terms of roms and development, but even well known devs are saying stay away from this version... seems like they dont think it's gonna happen soon at all.
From what I read on the T-Mobile forums they are still trying to figure out if the bootloader is locked like ours

right there with you, i've got 13 more days to return-no-questions-asked, just a little butt-hurt i already traded my lovely GS2 in :crying: should have kept that little sucker around until all this washed over. I would go over to HTC One, as it is developer-friendly, but i just can't bring myself to a non-reparable design as these USB ports at the bottom go after time, no swapable batt, and missing micro SD card (love having my pics there in case phone dies, while it's not the ultimate in security, it's at least a small form of backup). Also, the added screen real estate i think is the perfect phone size.
Really hoping the TMob version can be SIM swapped, might not make it to my return date to get confirmation on this....boo
I am thinking of going HTC one. Cant afford to wait a year for potential screw up where Samsung releases an unlock. There will be no unlock for boot loader u less Samsung or somebody working there leaks it.

Figures... now to see if I can buy the T-mobile version without having a t-mobile line. At&T and Verizon dont allow it. Anyone know if they will let you?

This site claims to have the unlocked US T-Mobile S4 available for pre-order. I have no experience with them, but they are mentioned several times in the S4 forums.
http://negrielectronics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=s4#.UYDASknD_IU
...and for $70 cheaper than the AT&T unlocked S4!

Nice, thanks! My concern is that they are probably talking about sim unlock which is possible on At&T already, I wish we had someone who owns a t-mobile S4 and can confirm an unlocked or unlockable bootloader.
EDIT: Looks like according to the t-mobile forum theirs is unlocked bootloader. Im hoping we can just get the bootloader unlocked by then but if not.. plan B!

Wasn't your original question about where to buy a T-Mobile S4 without having a T-Mobile line? If so, that site claims to have them. If you are planning on using the T-Mobile S4 on AT&T networks it will need to be sim unlocked. Otherwise, I'm not sure why you are looking to buy a T-Mobile S4 without having a T-Mobile line. As far as the bootloader goes, AT&T is locked, T-Mobile is not, but that has nothing to do with a T-Mobile phone on an AT&T line? Maybe I am just not understanding what you are looking for?

[Q] Domestic Unlock of Sprint G2

I broke my sprint phone, but I can upgrade to a new phone now on Sprint. I want to use the Sprint One Up Plan for a bit, then leave the contract since I don't believe it has a contract. I plan on using the G2 as my replacement. I want to move to T-Mobile later, and I know the G2 can be used on Sprint. I also have read here that the G2 comes factory locked by Sprint, and Sprint will one unlock it for international use. Is there something that I could flash to the G2 to allow me to use it on T-Mobile when I switch?
Basically, how can I use domestic USA GSM on a Sprint LG G2?
I will at least root and unlock the phone internationally first anyway, since I need to use outside of the country. Flashing ROMs and things like that is not a problem for me.

Is it possible, after I finish with Sprint, I could flash the firmware and modem of T-Mobile's G2?
Would any of those unlock codes for the IMEI work, since it supports GSM?
Thats risky due to the fact that tmo uses different bands than sprint plus the radio waves are different and sprint is gsm and tmo is cdma

Sprint is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM...
Anyway, I know the G2 supports all of the bands, so I don't see why this can't happen. Sprint has just locked away the domestic GSM capabilities. Why is flashing theT-Mobile modem such a risk then? WOuld I be able to flash it back?

Sorry always get that bavkwards the issue is with two things the radio, which you said you could flash the modem no problem. Then the biggest issue is the sim card now im not sure if the sprint variant has a sim card slot. But from what my buddy has told me who is a tmobile phone tech they dont have away to enable your service with out the sim card. For some reason they dont do their services like most carriers and just use the phones imei number to set service. If im wrong im sorry and hopefully you can get everything switched. And thank you for the imformation i did not know the g2 has all bands hidden inside the phone. I was just worried that the radio bands would get you. And to answer your question yes you can always just flash them back.

No problem. If I helped give me my first thank you. I'm going to go to the Sprint Store soon and see what they say. The Nexus 5 seems to be compatible with any carrier, but I like the G2 just a bit better. Sprint has a help topic regarding replacing the SIM , so that is not an issue. Hopefully someone else can tell me if the G2 can have a different modem flashed.
I don't want to take any unneccessary risks flashing, because that is what broke my last two Sprint phones lol.

So where do I get the files? And can you confirm this has a good chance of succeeding?
It will not work.. Sprint doesn't unlock the phone for domestic US GSM carriers and the 2 models for Sprint and T-Mobile are completely different. You flash anything like the radios and you'll have a massive brick. If you want to move between carriers, get the Nexus 5.

You will not get domestic GSM service with Sprint atm. Hang it up until a solution if any will come. Even after that, it will never be fully compatible with Tmob bands. I love/hate Verizon.

S7 or something else?

Sad story finding out that the S7 is locked down harder than anything before. I'm still running a Note 3 that I purchased on release day, so needless to say, I've been holding out for the S7 since the S6 series didn't have SD card support.
Having had quite a few Samsung flagships over the years, I've really liked them, their speed and battery life, but having no root is a dealbreaker for me.
Things like TWRP (or MultiSystem), Cerberus, Greenify, TiBu and Xposed are essential to me. Seriously, without the ability to simply back up your current ROM or even just your apps and their data, what does everyone do when they get a new phone or some stupid update ruins what they had??
So that being said, I'm asking here if any of you are waiting it out for root before getting an S7 or if you're considering moving to another phone?
If you are thinking or have already moved to another phone, what's the best rootable phone of 2016 that has an SD card slot that is comparable to the S7?
I'm not hard to please, I just require root and an SD card slot - well, and a community of devs!
I heard there is an unlocked variant with CDMA, if not that then maybe wait it out until a root method is found.
Other options are the 5X, maybe the new G5 or the V10 if you want just root.

I'm so tired of people making this comment... The law passed last year clearly stated that no phone can be block from any U.S. Network if it's not stolen, not on an agreement, and has the proper radios to support the network... That's why they can't stop nexus devices, unlocked Motorola etc. Your phone will simply show up on Verizon site as "non Verizon device" and your stupid voicemail won't work. That's what google voice is for. That's why as soon as you pay for your phone, carriers have to unlock it if you request them to do so

Did you miss the piece where I said the phone has to have the proper radios? Most sprint phones do not have the appropriate radios which support Verizon CDMA channels, therefore the phone wouldn't work. Phones like Nexus, Motorola, and other unlocked phones typically have the hardware to support all U.S carriers.

Ok so this post is completely useless in this section then. There isn't an unlocked variant of the s7 that will work with Verizon nor has there ever been a galaxy phone from another carrier that would work. Once again you are diverting from my original comment, which verizon has nothing to do with if a phone can be used on verzion, or "white listed" as you put it. For your information there's been Samsung models that would work on Verizon from Sprint but they wouldn't get the correct lte signals...

First: I never used the words "white listed" anywhere in my posts.
Second: if they don't get the correct LTE signals then they basically don't work, lets not beat around the bush with here. Ultimately, I get what you are saying but it doesn't really matter. Other than to create an argument where there definitely doesn't need to be one your response really has no meaning in this particular thread. There are NO unlocked CDMA versions of this phone that will work on ANY other carrier and Verizon at the same time. /thread.
Can anyone tell me what an equivalent HTC, Motorola or LG phone would be that is rootable?
*Must be rootable
*Must have an SD card slot
*Hopefully has dev support for custom ROMs but isn't totally necessary since with root I can use Xposed to make it look like I want
I mean seriously, Samsung isn't the only top-tier manufacturer, why are we all addicted to this anyway? It's a great phone, I'm sure - but isn't there ANY good alternative in you guy's opinion?
I might just bite the bullet and get the S7 and hope for root, but the loss of Viper4Android would be a killer.
As a former flashaholic I have decided as long as I am on Verizon I will have to live without root especially when I got my sony z3v. I am glad I did. Flashing and setting everything up took up so much time atleast once a day at most once a week. And heaven forbid there was an issue and I would have to restore or start over. I then got a Verizon z2 tablet again without root on lollipop. This is a great phone and a worthy upgrade from my z3v. I think the line between needing and wanting features or gimmicks is getting blured.

Damnit, you're right and I know it, I'm just fighting it.
As a complete crackflasher since 2004, I've been around the block a few times - I suppose it's just habit to "require" root.
I think the hardest things about moving to a phone that has no root is no TiBU and no Viper. Seriously, how to people back up their data without TiBU? Of course I could manually back up all my apk's that didn't come from the Google Play Store, and I could manually back up all their \Android\Data folders, but that sucks. How is it in 2016 we have apps that require root and fewer and fewer phones that allow it?
Anyway, thank you for your perspective. I think I'll end up getting an S7 anyway and if it gains root someday it's a bonus!

Should I leave it as a Verizon variant or convert it?

Hello,
I just moved back home to Guam a few weeks ago from Colorado and I am wondering how I should go about getting service in Guam.
After I pay off my Wife's and I services with Verizon I want to try and connect it with the carriers here. To my understanding, after I pay Verizon the early termination fees etc, the phones should be unlocked*carrier unlocked*?
The phones in question are the HTC 10*mine* and S7 Edge*wife's*, we spoke with Verizon before we left, they told us that the phones are unlocked already and wouldn't have any issues using other carriers.
Should I change the HTC 10 to the Unlocked variant is this even possible? I've read about unlocking it to T-mobile or ATT etc so should I leave it and see what my local carriers can do or should I get it in an unlocked carrier state?
Before we left I used a Sprint variant of the M7, lots have changed since then, I didn't have to do anything to change the MID etc, I was sorta gimped on Data connection, but that was a few years ago, NO 4g LTE, but now the local carriers are on it.
Thanks for your time
If you stay with Verizon, keep the stock software. Also you're already sim-unlocked.
If you change to a GSM carrier, not sure the VZW software will work or not but you can definitely "convert" it to the U.S Unlocked version. That's the easiest/safest way since both phones have the same MID. You'll need S-off ($25).
I am S-off already.
Would being U.S unlocked be a viable option to not have issues trying to connect with local carriers?

First, great info above me. 2nd, you could actually go ahead and superCID and run latest 1.96.617.20 US Unlocked RUU. I'd say the best method is to try them out, RUU or firmware. If on a custom ROM and say chose VZW, you'd have to flash again and chose US unlocked. If you are on stock ROM then I'd try and see if it works as vzw says. If not I'd flash The Us unlocked firmware (modified for vzw you may need the radio.img and cardio.img that is normally removed). Best of luck my friend. I hope all goes well!
Will I have issues flashing viper after SuperCID?
OR should I go down to my carrier and try my luck as the device stands?
Thanks a lot!

No issues at all. Supercid, basically makes it so you can flash any firmware and other things like RUU from other carriers like us unlocked -- (so make sure you know what you're flashing!!!) .
I'm not sure of your carrier or what they'd say. I'd honestly play it by ear and see what happens. I have faith that with the 10 you will be able to get everything working; although I can't say for sure.

Would being U.S unlocked be a viable option to not have issues trying to connect with local carriers?

I'm using a Verizon phone flashed with Unlocked ruu on a GSM network. The conversion improved the phone for me. Better reception in my area, able to connect to more lte bands, txt msgs come/go faster, and the initial connection to the network after boot up or getting outta airplane mode is much faster since I got away from VZW stock software. Also you get OTA updates as they become available, and you don't have to deal with Verizon's worthless software modifications like no battery saver mode, Wi-Fi notifications, etc if you're gonna stay stock.
Flashing the Unlocked firmware is your best bet. The only thing I'll add is that if possible find out what bands are being used by the carriers over there, and see if its compatible.
HTC 10 Unlocked Band Support:
LTE Bands FDD 2,3,4,5,7,12,13,17,29; 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE - 850/900/1800/1900; 3G UMTS - 850/AWS/900/1900/2100; LTE - FDD - B28/B12/B13/B17/B29/B20/B5/B4/B3/B2/B1/B30/B7.
I want to convert my verizon htc 10 to international version
Guys, do you know how can i possibly convert my Verizon HTC 10 to works the same as the global unlocked phone? I'm so sad with the verizon version, I got weak signal in my country and barely reach to 4G LTE network. Most of the time I can only use 3G and some features also not work I'm trying to read lots of forums and watch youtube, but still couldn't get what I want! Plz let me know.
Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:

Did you even bother to read this entire thread? Did you search on the forum? This question has been answered (and you didn't need to start a new thread).

The installer installs prerequisites first. Then launches the installer. Did you get that far?

Okay I am trying again now...
It's going further than it did the other time..
It gave me error 155 and 170.. even with a full battery...
So I can just RUU the U.S Unlocked version and and try and use the radios, if not I can just flash back the VZW RUU with no ill effects?
SuperCID to 11111111....

If on Verizon you won't get any service on unlocked without Verizon radios. Why not just flash a custom rom?

Nothing preventing you to convert from VZW to U.S Unlocked, as long as you're s-off. I'm running Unlocked Oreo on my VZW variant.

US996-> On AT&T or Verizon

I'm considering purchase of a US996. I'm considering this model as I may want to change from AT&T to Verizon. Data from AT&T where I live is VERY slow.
At any rate, I would like to hear from folks with this model on each carrier, and if all seems well for you or not.
Any input appreciated.

My experience has been exactly the same.
I use it on Verizon using Weta Rom and it's amazing. Everything works.

WETA Rom is for 918...So it works fine on the 996 then I guess.
Is it generally expected that you can put 918 Rooms PM the 996?

Actually Weta Rom is for the 996 as welll. Don't try to put a rom for another device on it lol.
Oh. I looked before posting and didn't fond it. But it's good to hear there is now more than one ROM for it.

I now have one on order.
Activation/IEMI setup
Did you have any issues getting Verizon to get the 996 working? I've read about issues with other folks (likely other phones) getting them to recognize / setup the IMEI on their network.
Weta Rom
I've read a lot of the Weta thread. Being totally unfamiliar with the V20, I can't relate to the 'improvments' of the ROM.
Can anyone give me a few points about the benefit of changing to Weta from stock?
I had no problem getting the nano-SIM card from Verizon. Then the only carrier related problem was getting Advanced Calling to work. The bottom line there was to turn off WiFi when you call Verizon to have AC enabled.
Getting the 996 bootloader unlocked was a real pain for me but I think the problem was PC related. When I finally got it to recognize the phone in adb mode all went well. I would advise to unlock/root right away as the process completely wipes any changes you have made.
My overall experience with the 996 is that it is a fantastic phone that I am very happy with. I thought nothing would be able to top my G3 vs985 but I was wrong. I was worried about the size of the 996 but am totally used to it now. Enjoy yours!

I really appreciate your feedback.
I'm wondering one thing related to rooting and warranty. Of course, LG voids warranty if it is unlocked. I see folks posting about restoring to complete stock in case of warranty needs. But, from what I can tell, the only way to unlock the bootloader is via the LG site, and it looks like you have to provide phone info...so they would know you are unlocking the phone. Seems to me it would then be flagged as voided warranty.
Any input on that?
Since the "dirty" exploits unlock the bootloaders of carrier branded and usually cheaper variants, I assume you bought the US996 for its LG sanctioned unlock ability and were willing to forego any warranty. I advised unlocking right away but if you don't personalize the phone very much at first, you may want to wait a week or so to get by the infant mortality period. I waited a month. My phone had upgraded to US99610f before I unlocked it so that was not a problem.
The LG official unlocking process inserts a nag screen at boot up that warns that the phone cannot be checked for vulnerabilities. I don't believe there is any way to remove this even if you somehow are able to get the phone in otherwise original condition - but I may be wrong. I don't know what the "dirty" exploits cause, if anything non-stock, on boot up. If warranty is important to you, check out the dirtycow exploit to see what you can find out about completely reversing the unlocking process, including any nag screen.
The only things I hope come along in the future for this phone are the Xposed framework and a mod to enable fm radio, assuming all the necessary hardware is present. Then I would have a perfect phone instead of nearly perfect.
The main reason I am getting the 996 is so that I can put it on either Verizon OR AT&T if I change my mind on carrier.
I haven't had to use warranty often. I may check into 'insurance'.

Yessss! The lack of FM radio kills me considering the carrier versions have it. Like WTF LG?

Well I know the unlocked version doesn't because that's what I have. As for the carrier models, you'll have to check each one individually and make sure. I'm not positive that all of the carrier models have it, I think maybe one (Verizon?) has it disabled. Could definitely be wrong about that though.
Makes literally no sense why they wouldn't include FM on the unlocked version...
