Touch Diamond 2 just came in the release date is 6/10/09 and it has WinMo 6.5 what an improvement over the original diamond you wouldn't guess it was the same hardware. Il be testing my version of Tomtom 6 tomorrow on it so far no problems on diamond, touch pro, touch pro 2. If anyone wants more info or have questions give me a yell.

The telstra version is already leaked and can be downloaded.
My feedback is a bit pessimistic. The OS is very slow and heavy. Memory usage average is over %60.
I'm with Opensea on this one.
Just flashed the Telstra release and it is rather slow.
I'll stick with it until the 6th and wait for one of the generic non-carrier branded releases

i have received a email form HTC about WM 6
this is what they said:
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe regarding a query about Windows Mobile 6.
We are currently awaiting an official response from our Head Office on the matter of ROM updates from Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6. We hope to have an answer for you soon.? Please contact us again in a few weeks and we may be able to give you an update.
so i think that there is comming 1 soon
http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6247.html
I think you could be right
He IS right. For all the models, mentioned in this articles, there're already beta versions of WM6 available.
T-Mobile and O2 will both be releasing Heralds with WM6. T-Mobile will have a different case design tho.
WM6 for Herald and other current HTC devices
As per my sources in HTC the following devices will get WM6 upgrade for free within May/June.
TyTN
P4350
P3300
S620
some of them in May and some of them in June
That's very good news!
I am pretty excited I hope it holds true.
It looks like the rollout should start anyday now....except...the U.S. Roms have yet to be mentioned.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/19/htc-reveals-official-windows-mobile-6-upgrade-plans/
but it have not P4350 window mobile 6, i hope that it can release before May

It does state that the P4350 will be getting the update.
As far as U.S. Roms that is really up the the carrier; but if you have a HTC branded phone and are in the US then the WWE ROM update will be what you need.
Moto Q9 with wifi has 6.1 already installed. this this web site for more info....http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/12/05/windows-mobile-61-did-you-catch-it/
can we get it or is there any new device with touch screen have 6.1 yet.
I read somewhere else that it was a leaked copy and 6.1 wont be out till first quarter 2008.
i work for at&t and the model we have on display has the 6.1 installed just like the one on this link.....so it is out now. i don't care for the none touch screen but i am interested in the touch screen version.
Its not gonna be officially released January 2008. But when its January 2008 they maybe will delay it. Lets just wait and see.
Looks good, but here are some questions that I have...
-What about the memory leak?
Did MS fix that bug?
-What about our WM2003/WM5/WM6 devices?
Will we be able to upgrade to 6.1 or we will have to buy new devices? (i.e. Eten X550+ instead of X500+ )
-What about memory consumption?
Exciting news indeed, let's wait and see...
ok guys and gals I hope all have had a good festive period!!
here’s my question, I have just been offered a free upgrade by orange uk to the htc touch hd, I currently have the htc diamond.
it has been my first WM phone and I must say I am true convert. I have been looking longley with envy at the htc touch hd and I am defo going to own one; but with it being so new to the market I was wondering if any else has done the upgrade and wished they had waited a bit longer for a more stable product.
as i'm not that experienced at putting on ROMs does the one shipped with the orange branded phone work well??
or should i wait untill orange bring a 2nd Rom like they did with the diamond and untill android is fully working on the phone??
thanks for any advice given!!
I think shipped Roms aren't good (enough) at all. I like the possibility to flash another rom, whenever I want to.
So I would not put any stress on the shipped rom, there are already so many great cooked roms out there, so that is really no problem.
Flashing a cooked rom isn't a problem, it takes 10 minutes, if you know what to do, else you will have to read through the wiki, but it is really managable.
so does any one have any views on if the upgrade from the touch diamond to the touch hd is it worth it right now, or is it better to hang fire for a while untill the android os and a good offical rom from orange is out??
I still have the standard htc rom on my HD, version 1.14 and it is stable as can be, I don't feel any need to flash it. All you need to do is make a few tweaks and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with it. My HD somehow feels a little bit faster than a diamond, eventhough they have the same hardware inside and might I say inspite of the higher resolutions screen.
Given the choice I would pick the HD over the diamond any day, the extra big screen is well worth the price premium you pay over a diamond

I too find 1.14 to be faster than most cooked ROMs. Perhaps 1.14 is faster than 1.19.

hello everyone!
i'm also offered an upgrade from my old nokia n95, but i'm a little hesitant as i already have an htc touch diamond on another contract with orange. will it be practical to own both the htc touch diamond and the touch hd? i was initially eyeing the samsung omnia but it will cost me over £100 on my current tariff, whereas they can give me the touch hd for free. i've been having this "dilemma" for like a month now and im still undecided. anyone who can give me their views, i'd be grateful.
Hi guys,
Anybody has any news about the ROM upgrade for our topaz? It's 6th of October here in Malaysia but so far, no news. I heard Windows Marketplace is opened! I have checked the Taiwan website but yet still no news. I know Orange UK has announced that their ROM will be available only on the 12th.
Anyone has any other news?
I am looking for that answer too.
I sent an email to HTC asking about it. So far no news.
It is 15.57 here in Sydney.
I'm waiting aswell. I want to try out a official release from HTC. But I'll probably stick with the coocked roms seeing that a lot of the wm 6.5 phones here in the US are shipping with the old touchflo3D.
Can I ask a question guys....if I install the official ROM that comes out later do I still have to HardSPL it?
If you are still on the stock ROM and have not HSPL's then technically no you do not have to HSPL. As long as HTC posts an update for your phones original country of origin on the tech area of that countries site than you're good to go.
If the serial does not work you might consider HSPLing your phone and using the official rom when someone uploads it in the ROM development section. Doing a HSPL is quick and painless. Cooked Roms rule.
Ok this is what I got.
"Thank you for contacting HTC Service Support. Regarding your inquiry, much as we would like to provide you with the information unfortunately we still do not have the details yet. No information has been provided to when will the WM 6.5 upgrade for HTC Touch Diamond 2 be available. However if there will be any, it will be for free and can be downloaded form the HTC site. For now we really can’t tell since before upgrade is being provided, our technical department has to do series of tests and research first. Also any upgrades for a particular handset model are based on the demand of the Telecom Provider."
So, I guess we have to wait.
The upgrade for German Vodafone devices are on the support page of HTC Germany if anyone is looking for it.
Can't be like that
HTC have had months to get this into place so I find it hard to believe that we will not get the updates today. If that is the case then HTC have done very poorly in that case. Whilst other phones are coming with 6.5 I cannot see why the Diamond 2 shouldn't have an update on the day of release.
Updating your phone to Windows Mobile 6.5
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/meet/wm65-upgrade.mspx#phoneList
Your link didnt work!
Works fine for me but no mention of TD2, just 3 other HTC.
No phones have dates listed yet.
John
Just had an email from HTC and I quote... "we are awaiting confirmation from the software manufacture if the handset will receive an approved license or not"... I have a question.. why did HTC promise a wm6.5 upgrade if they are unsure if they can do it?!
I don't realy know if that is the problem. If you go to the Hong Kong windows phone webpage you will see that microsoft itself is promoting the upgrade.
So I can't see any reason why of why it is not out yet. Maybe they want to release it toguther with the American market. It is very early in the morning there yet.
I just checked on the Polish HTC site, but it looks like they do not know about that fact, that the upgrade should be today.
What is even better the customer service line number in Poland - when dialled - tells me "There is no such number!!"
This, I think, is outrageous & the HTC headquarters' guys should think with whom they cooperate in my beautiful country !!!!!!!
B-R-A-V-I-S-S-I-M-O HTC - worse can you not serve !!!

Polish 6.5 upgrade will be available on this page: http://sunnysoft.com/htc/
I don't get how there was a Vodafone branded 6.5 ROM listed on the German HTC site on the 4th and everyone else (who paid top dollar) with a network free phone has to wait indefinately for the official ROM......and I thought HTC were improving their customer support

Upgrade or localisation ??
There is not even TD2 showed on this site & they redirect to HTC site.
That is what annoys me.. that we paid for our phones.. yet they have NO clue about what is going on with Windows Mobile 6.5! I should really buy out that firm and organise them properly!

Hello!
I send to HTC a mail with a question will and when will be a new ROM upgrade to a new WM6.5.3. for HD2.
Here is HTC answer:
"Dear QQQ,
Thank you for contacting us,
Kindly note that your device was manufactured for the Czech Republic. So regarding any updates or hotfixes for your phone it’ll be through the Czech Republic page. However, the compatible Rom Upgrade for your phone is not yet released on that page. But it should be released soon. Kindly check on our website from time to time regarding new releases for new softwares."
So does it mean it will be or it will be only a new ROM with "old" WM6.5?
What do you think?
The answer is not really and the guy from HTC who answered doesn't seem to know what you were talking about when you mentionned WM6.5.3...
I don't think we should wait for a 6.5.3 upgrade, 'cause even if it's a minor upgrade, it's the same situation than for the HD which was released with WM6.1 and never upgraded officially with WM6.5 :/

Which is why I cant wait for WP7S at least then we'll get OTA updates straight away instead of having to wait for htc or phone operators to offer up a updated ROM
It would be very sad if they dont make compatabile 6.5.3 ROM for HD2. It's silly if they just stop in inventing in HD2

Well lucky for us, we have XDA.
wow he was really talking out his a$$ it would of been announce one way or another through some blog. now and days its hard for some one to keep things in the low especially HTC now that their getting to be bigger and bigger by the minute. i would see that coming from palm or danger (sidekick) nobody even cares about them any more so if they release some update nobody would really care other than device owners. sorry for getting out of the topic a bit but 6.5.3 would see the light by the end of the end of year microsoft putting all their brains on windows 7. hd2 for t-mobile might be the last windows 6.5 of the year in a american carrier
I ask this question to HTC: "Is the HTC HD2 going to get a windows mobile 6.5.3 ROM upgrade?"
And this is their answer: "Dear Eric Lui, Thank you for choosing HTC! Regarding to ROM update issue, we are sorry to inform you that currently we do not have the information of the WM6.5.3 ROM upgrade for HTC HD2. If any update in future, HTC will release the news on the website once any update, Please pay attention to our Official website for the update. In addition, we had recorded your information, and we will inform you in advance once any update related with HTC HD2. Thanks a lot for your understanding and cooperation."
Hope this can help.
HTC releases too many devices and they actually don't care of upgrades for current devices. Even if it's hi-end device like HD2. They will rather release HD3 than make official WM6.5.3 ROM for HD2. You have to pay for anything
I'm using Samsung Omnia II. I like this phone and i like Samsung attitude to their products. It came originally with WM6.1. Then it got upgrade to WM6.5. Now it get another upgrade to WM6.5.3. Same phone - 2 major upgrades.
Yes, it's possible to make your own WM6.5.3 ROM, but alas you can not tweak all OEM applications to be compatible with 6.5.3. That's why official upgrade is the key point.
Without official upgrade to 6.5.3 from HTC, user won't get normal HTC dialer/callerID. They will stick either to 235xx builds or add workaround to fix incompatibility. I even don't mention about minor graphics issues after migrating from 6.5 to 6.5.3.
