official release date = 10/04/2009 or october 4 2009
The only bad part is that it will identical to 6.1 other than Skymarket.
The main hype of the upgrade is so they can make $ off you guys buying apps.

Why would they do that? Skymarket is also released for Windows Mobile 6.1, right? And what would be the difference in Windows Mobile 6.5 with your custom ROM, besides the applications you've added?

As you can read on MS website
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/6-1/default.mspx
Today microsoft has launched Windows mobile 6.1
i also read this news on an italian portal (pockepcitalia) but theu say that HTC will release the update only for the TYTN II....
but why?
So the best feature IMO the sliding panel, is missing from the touch screen version of WM 6.1 nice
Well that link is for smartphone anyways,
but yes, pda 6.1 isn't that much of an upgrade, while smartphone version is.
that's my opinion, too
WM6.1 on PDAs is not more than a facelift.

No, WM6.1 more faster then WM6.0
And more stability.

I take this with a grain of salt. The OS always seems faster when re-loaded for the first time.

Yep...still too soon. I have done my share of OS upgrading too. Use it for a month or more then compare that device with a WM 6.0 device side by side.

You may be right on this. I also realized, that WM6.1 seems to have
optimized kernel and so be faster in response. So i confirm, that WM6.1
also in my opinion is "better" than WM6.0. My former statement of the
facelift was regarding to the optical appearance of WM6.1 on PDA devices
in comparison to the optical improvements of the Smartphone version.
Hope that made it clear
Olioaglio
As you can see there aren't that many updates from 6.0 to 6.1. But everything can run faster and better. (Hope so)

It's not even sure if HTC will release a WM6.1 upgrade for the Touch Cruise.
Being patient is all what you can do, or use a custom rom
when I have qtek was very simple on official site was everything rom's e.t.c. but for htc e-club zero....
I just get this e-mail from HTC Europe
Good Afternoon,
I can confirm that the HTC Touch Cruise will receive a Windows Mobile 6.1 update like the TyTN II. I do not have a release date for this update as it is still under development, but I do know it is on its way.
Please keep an eye on the e-Club for further updates.
Please do not reply to this email as this email address is not monitored for replies.

woah......a little too late. everybody knows that...
Ye...This is the first mail i got from HTC ever... no wm6 for Trinity and now its too late for Cruise too, i sold it and bought me a Diamond and the Diamond forum is full of official roms!
hope so
thanks for informations
Sounds nice!
Thanks for sharing the info!
I heard from the Product Manager in Singapore stating that the new rom will be available in Q3, thus do look out for the new OS anytime from now...
Thank you for this information. Will wait for the update.
Ye I hope they don't delay it like the way they've been delaying some of their other product releases.
Excellente nouvelle.
Good new
Thanks
Why do you looking forward to HTC ROM ****? HTC said, that it doesnt contain graphic drivers... XDA-cookers ROMs are the best than original HTC ****...
Not everyone likes to use cooked ROMs. While the official HTC 6.1 update won't contain graphic drivers that fully utilize the chipset, they will have 'improved' graphic drivers, whatever that means

Without HTC Roms there would be no XDA cooked roms.
And you need an official ROM first to be able to use the driver on HTCClassAction.org.
wm6.1 officially release Sept 08; straight from HTC Taiwan!

There is a rom for the HD Mini allready in the HD Mini section! Can someone get the dialer out of it and port it WVGA? And anything else you find interesting in it!

Unfortunately the rom that is available at this moment doesn't run WM 6.5.3 but WM 6.5 (build 21613)
This is cruel!
Oh well... I guess that we will have to wait a little longer for it! Thanks for the info anyway. BTW Can someone tell me an alternative dialer app that is good to be used? I've been searching for a long time but I can't find anything that I like enough!

Don't you like the current dialer? If you are looking for a fix of the button-overlap problem, I don't think that this will be fixed by a port of the Mini dialer anyway. I think that this will be solved by the new lay-out of the bottom-bar (toolbar) of the Mini.

Hi Russell, thanks for your email.
I do not know where these network assistants got this information as it is not correct. The official answer is that "We are working closely with Microsoft on Windows Phone 7 Series and look forward to releasing new handsets which will use the new OS." reading between the lines, it would seem therefore that the answer would be no.
There are many reasons for this, not least Steve Ballmers announcement that "no current handsets will be upgraded", Also 7 Series is NOT an upgrade to 6.5. Microsoft is releasing it as a totally new and separate OS from the exisiting Windows Mobile versions. 6.5 will continue to be developed, even after 7 will be available, to offer two different OS versions for different needs. 6.5 will remain more business orientated, and for devices with OS skins on them (Like the HD2 which uses our Sense skin), and 7 Series for new, more media and social based handsets, which will not be skinned.
Therefore, I can only recommend that if you specifically want 7, you will need to wait for it to be available on new handsets If the HD2 meets your needs, then i would consider buying it anyway, as the 6.5.x software will continue to be developed even after 7 is released.
Best regards,
Pete W

nice/fast/stable
It's running nice/fast/stable on my gf's hd2, but it looks a bit dated once you've tried some of the 6.5.3 roms. Are Microsoft not releasing 6.5.3 to HTC or something? It's really strange that they don't seem to want to promote advances in the OS when android and the like are getting over the air updates to their phones. Little things like the documents tab and the eReader tab from 6.5.3 (plus the fact it's just that little bit more finger friendly) make it all a bit more exciting to show off.
Gotta love my HD2 though Is it true you can't even change the background picture on an iPhone?

anyone have issues signing into google maps v4.1? since upgrading ROM i can't sign in, even from the default version on the ROM,version 3.2.1. i can sign into my google account online ok. something is wrong with google maps i believe. any help would be appreciated.
Does anyone know what .net framework is embedded in this ROM?
its cool managed to get .net 3.5 installed again, had to uninstall windows mobile device centre and went into program features and it was there to be reinstalled. All good!
updated to this ROM which is now manika 2012, but the home/today screen won't rotate, i thought it should with this version of manila, or is it a feature of never/custom roms?

I believe this is in custom roms only at the mo.
The HD2 should have been fully landscape supported from the start tbh.
Mere hours after the next version of android was announced HTC made a statement saying the update will be available for most of their android handsets. In stark contrast, even though WM 6.5.3 was made official months ago (February) HTC has been completely silent on whether an upgrade will be offered for devices like the HD2.
OK, so I understand android is the "cool" thing and everyone wants to give their personal data to google and its pals, but at least come out and say what you intend to do, if you are dropping WM fine, thanks very much, if not, why not announce it or at least say its coming?
Just cant fathom, WM, especially on the HD2, is still a good OS, why has seemingly everyone fallen into the "apps is the only thing that matters" mindset and condemn WM because it doesnt have a million trillion fart or beer application?

Exactly.... they would probably have to pay more licensing fees and make a new contract with MS for an official upgrade. /what does it matter, anyways... we have plenty of good 6.5.3 roms here at xda.

MS actually said 6.5.3 willl be available to OEM's at no extra cost and personally I have not found a cooked rom without bugs I could live with so I would prefer an official 6.5.3 upgrade.
Unfortunately, the HD2 will not be getting a 6.5.3 update:
Dear Amr, Thank you for contacting us. In regards to your query, Unfortunately, at this time HTC and Microsoft do not have plans to offer Windows Phone 7 or 6.5.3 upgrades to any existing HTC phones. HTC is working closely with Microsoft to bring Windows Phone 7 to market later this year. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Kind regards, Federico F. HTC

only true if you send it back with hspl still installed. the rom is un important.(well maybe they'd complain if you sent it back with wp7 hehe)
and since hspl can be removed right after you flash, the warranty is only void for fifteen minutes.
hi, hum, what about that :
HTC release Windows Mobile 6.5.3 HTC HD2 in China
I'd like 6.5.3 but I'd prefer it if HTC would fix the bugs my phone came with, and put the fixes they have released in a ROM. I'm out of memory after the last 15Mb update; and messaging still doesn't work (nor Exchange, nor Stocks, and something eats internal storage.) Custom ROMs are no good for business phones.
I won't but HTC again. I feel let down.

It can be quite awkward to select some items when you get away from HTC Sense, because you can't use a pen or fingernail on a capacitive screen.
